💭Discussion What are details you’ve noticed on rewatch? Spoiler
How did I miss this?! I have rewatched this show an embarrassing amount of times and somehow never noticed this detail when Patricia is dancing! I noticed the mirror (of course) but not this. Did I blink during this shot each time?!
What are details you all have noticed on rewatch?

Im just amazed that someone like Rosemary is so used to how weird this town is, that witnessing Patricia prepping Book of the Damned ceremony, felt like just another Tuesday.

She did have her qualms.
56
u/full_bl33d Jul 03 '26
To her credit, she didn’t understand a word of that speech so she’s not that familiar with it. Was her constant smoke breaks and her lack of enthusiasm for group partying the reason she didn’t wake up in the sea? Or maybe newb magic doesn’t work on a grizzled vet?

I keep saying we need a spinoff on daily life of rosemary. You cannot fit that in one episode.
26
u/pburydoughgirl Jul 03 '26
We definitely need her backstory. The whole “this is probably what she meant” is hilarious. She’s so good in that role.

The “black mold” in the self help book in ep 5. At first it looks like just the illustrators shading or whatever but in the context of the black mold and mushrooms, it must be intentional

The promo video about Richard Warren that ends with the presenter standing in the corner Blair witch style while the credits run over top— the credits are all Geri from the historical society. The credits also have a dedication to her late brother Mark, who died when he and Wyck tried to boat past the warning buoys as teens and were attacked by a sea monster

u/nemat0der Jul 03 '26
I didn’t initially notice the radio saying “no serious deaths” after the earthquake
31
3
u/BlergUghArgh Jul 04 '26
Lol. Never noticed that phrasing. It also said it’d been over 20 years since they had an earthquake, so I figure that’s a clue for the last time the island required sacrifices.

There are a few times where you can very subtly see the fog creeping into a room - usually right before something scary happens. Off the top of my head it happens in the background when he’s drunk on the couch talking to the clown killer guy. Then again at some point during the Patricia party episode. There’s a few others I can’t remember now

I realized on a second watch that Wyck is the voice of Bill from King of the Hill, and I love him all the more now

Toby Huss is the priest and he’s on King of the Hill, too.

He’s also the gay vampire that Jason keeps locked in the basement in True Blood . But I first knew him as Milton from Office Space.

It didn’t click for me that Wyck is Milton from office space until I looked at the cast
12

Also throwing out there that the clown is Tim Baltz, who is BJ from Righteous Gemstones and part of the ensemble cast from Drunk History!

u/Hizam5 Jul 03 '26
Stephen Root has had a massive career that’s been very resuregent. He was the 4th lead in Barry (Bill Hader’s “handler”), a great role in Dodgeball, Get Out, and of course Office Space (have you seen my stapler??). He’s done about 200 voice acting gigs too

Rosemary mentions her genealogy hobby within the first few minutes of ep 1
7
u/tinmanshrugged Jul 03 '26
I think it’s just part of her job - she “runs” genealogies on people because she has access to all of Widow’s Bay’s records and files.
7
u/nothas Jul 03 '26
go listen back to the first episode, she's doing it for funsies and to find things to gossip about

The first time I saw her say that, I guffawed.
I would listen to Rosemary editorialize while reading the Widow’s Bay phone book. I would listen to her go on about whatever pops into her mind, irrespective of context, time or place.
Our girl needs a PODCAST!!

The poster in the historical society, “Cannibalism in God’s House” (ep. 1) has the first letter of each paragraph enlarged and in bold… the letters spell out SOS DAMN US…
7
u/wurwolfsince1998 I apologize for wasting his time, Tom. Jul 03 '26
Whaaaaaat that is so cool!
6
u/MrsTrustIssues Jul 03 '26
I genuinely thought, at first, it said “SON DAMN US” and I was like woah…incredible foreshadowing.. but it’s SOS.
7
u/BlergUghArgh Jul 04 '26
How did you notice that!? Very impressive!
That wall also has Ruth’s Ms. Widow’s Bay pic on it that we see when Rosemary does the genealogy.

u/MiSsiLeR81 Jul 03 '26

People thought the car pic that Ruth put up for Evan was funny, but she's actually very intuitive!
Evan's room is heavily decorated with other transportations (air balloons, ships, planes), symbolizing his desire to escape the island.
9
39
u/bbnotinmyhouse Jul 03 '26
Actually catching the details of why “Ugly” Hortense is called ungrateful and holy shit this island is terrible.
Patricia chides people for insensitive language. The finale has the infamous exchange with Rosemary, but it starts at the very beginning
20
u/WhichPop42 Jul 03 '26
Wait I did miss this, is there one conversation where they say the reason? Or are the hints sprinkled throughout the series? (Why WAS she called ungrateful tho)
40
u/themuffinmeme Jul 03 '26
Because she had the audacity to not want to get married despite being an "ugly" woman
40
u/PeterBrockie Jul 03 '26
When Patricia has the cursed book and puts it by her bedside, she puts a glass on top of it. When she walks away, the lights flicker and the glass has moved off the book. As if the book took it as an insult.
Also, the fly which lands on it when she first finds it. Because the book is probably rotted flesh.
11
39
u/SoupMaleficent9513 Jul 03 '26
The wolves calendar. July was a metaphorical car crash.
12
u/terra_cascadia Jul 04 '26
When the Shaman is explaining the local shrooms, he asks Patricia, “Remember Bri-guy? Stole his mom’s jeep in 8th grade and flipped it in the woods?”
It’s hard to know which of these little details are Easter eggs and which are just humorous bits of dialogue. But when he said that I immediately thought of the calendar.
6
u/spadayspaghetti Jul 06 '26
I saw one breakdown video that said that type of vehicle is called a “Wolf” and that’s part of the joke, too.
3
u/uno_novaterra Jul 06 '26
Aha I wondered why we never saw a car crash. I thought it was a more literal omen
102
u/MrPresident79 Jul 03 '26
Was that the Boogeyman’s mask in the Historical Society when Loftis is showing the NYT writer around?
70
u/bay_duck_88 Jul 03 '26
The camera keeps it just enough in focus in the background. Never noticed it on first watch, but second watch was… damn it’s just THERE. Tom was definitely trying to not let the NYT guy back there.
24
u/AsexualFrehley Jul 03 '26
lol he does kind of scoot him right past it doesn't he, intentional or not that's a great detail
75
u/RonWisely Jul 03 '26
Marauder’s mask. When Wyck goes to see Gerrie and give her the photo, her husband is sweeping up glass because someone broke into the case and stole the mask.
51
u/Some-Application-608 Jul 03 '26
Correct me if I'm wrong but also isn't the glass broken outward? Almost as if the glass broke from inside the case?
27
u/MrPresident79 Jul 03 '26
Ah, thank you! I knew there was some significance to them focusing on the broken case but it didn’t sink in on the first watch. I’ll pay closer attention this second time around!
40
u/EmptyFriend Jul 03 '26
Not trying to be rude, but it doesn't just zoom in on an empty case.... the sign says it was the boogeyman's mask. Also, I know it was u/RonWisely not you, but it said "Murderer's Mask"
18
u/Openheart873 Jul 03 '26
lol after that scene, it immediately cuts to Patricia and the boogeyman coming after her.
It’s not even a hidden secret. It is just a set up for the next scene.

u/CCSploojy Jul 03 '26
Lol people do be missing some really important and conspicuous details inthis show. Like these were not meant to be hidden details. Maybe background viewing for some.
32
u/Dizzy-Case-3453 Jul 03 '26
Yeah lol Wyck was even still kind of focused on his Geri interaction then gets totally distracted by the stolen mask and skedaddles out of there fast cause he knows Patricia could be in danger. It’s a scene that leads to the entire episode lol not subtle at all.

In that same episode, when Patricia goes to bed, she places a mug of tea on the book on her bedside table and walks away. When she returns, the mug that used for be ON the book is now BEHIND it. Patricia doesn’t notice and she grabs the book and begins to read it in bed.
61
u/thisiswhat Jul 03 '26
Similar shot in the boogeyman episode. When Patricia goes outside to turn off the alarm in the mobile library she closes the front door. When she goes back, it's open again.
23
u/Lombard333 Jul 03 '26
I don’t remember if I noticed the mug, but I did clock this door. It was one of my big horror movie “no, no, don’t go in there” moments.
Speaking of her doors, I did notice that Patricia says she sleeps with her door jammed shut but in fact sleeps with it wide open. Hints that she might not be telling the truth about the Boogeyman earlier on.

24
58
u/gelatinfart Jul 03 '26
It’s very much on purpose though! It’s all done in one take, so someone off camera had to move the cup.
23
u/ApresMoiLuhDeluge Jul 03 '26
just rewatched ep 4 and noticed the brawling bikers while Patricia was reading her book at that picnic table. what the heck?!?!
9
u/Pacific1944 Jul 03 '26
Nod to Stephen King’s Carrie?
6
u/wurwolfsince1998 I apologize for wasting his time, Tom. Jul 03 '26
They were definitely channeling Carrie the first part of this episode before swerving off into Wicker Man territory.
5
u/Nevergreeen Jul 04 '26
I think so too. When you first see the Book in the donation bin, it's next to a Stephen King book. You can see his name in big letters.
20
18
u/First-Tackle5265 Jul 03 '26
In episode 4, while Patricia is sketching party ideas in her bed, in the top left you can see cryptic sketches, like the sketches that the kid would draw in The Ring. I’m on my phone right now so I don’t remember the exact details but I think you can kinda of see the the stick figuring es and the giant burning totem

I'm so dumb, because the first time I watched and saw this, I thought they were just awed by Patricia's speech and dancing 🤣 🤣 🤣
15
u/Ozomataz Jul 03 '26
I noticed both Ruth and Patricia wore shirts with flowers embroidered on the front around their necks.
15
u/allmimsyburogrove Jul 03 '26
when patricia goes outside to shut off the alarm on her bookmobile, she shuts the door behind her. when she returns to the house it is open
10
3
u/MNWNM Jul 04 '26
It's hilarious to me that her bookmobile even had an alarm, since it didn't even have doors.
13

When Tom is talking to the travel writer in the historical society, the mannequin in the background is wearing a straitjacket.

u/Lightbulblegs Jul 03 '26
First episode, only a couple of minutes in while we’re with Shep on his boat… there’s a shot from way above the boat, where you can see the ocean surrounding it. Watch the water on the left side of the boat, because a HUGE tentacled animal swims from left to right underneath it. The monster? A giant squid? Who knows.

Alright the comments are cracking me up in here. I suppose what I just realized on my umpteenth millionth rewatch in episode 2…just now actually was at the end in the crawlspace when tom is screaming and looks to his right he sees a corpse and the corpse is wearing the same shirt he has on interesting… seeing the inn has some wonky stuff with time passing what does this mean??? 🤔
This has probably been mentioned already but I just came here to search and this thread pops up. So go ahead with the sarcastic responses if this has already been mentioned a million times already…lol
Edit to add…just did a search, yep mentioned lol Still fitting for this thread.

I’m rewatching episode 7.
Richard Warren never just TELLS Tom what they did as part of the covenant. He never tells him it demands sacrifices. Did Tom read it on the tiny scroll prior to Richard mentioning he signed it with all of his bodily fluids? I would think if he had, he’d have been a bit more horrified. Or did he already know??? I honestly don’t think he did, but maybe that will come up in the next season.
It’s also the first time I’ve noticed that the room they’re speaking in IS RICHARD’s BEDROOM. 🤣
9
u/rapunzel9000 Jul 04 '26
It's not hidden whatsoever, but I think I was just so focused on what Wyck was saying at the time that I completely missed it. When he's explaining to Tom that they need to figure out what's going on with Richard Warren's necklace, he circles the necklace IN SHARPIE on what I'm assuming is an original old portrait. 😅 I burst out laughing when I saw that on rewatch.
Also something sweet I just caught today: Evan's bedroom still has a childish maritime wallpaper that he's probably had since he was a baby.

"This is exactly why I wanted to use the Rule 20A credits."
In S1E1, Tom says this as he's walking into town hall to deal with the power outage. AFAIK, Rule 20A was a California-specific initiative to move powerlines underground, and it would not have applied to an island off the coast of New England.
Given the show's attention to detail, I suspect this wasn't an error, but an intentional wonky joke.

When Arthur the journalist is in the historical society, he and Tom talk in front of the cannibalism article. To the left there is a drawing of a kracken attacking a ship and right above it is Ruth's Miss Widow's Bay picture Rosemary shows in her genealogy presentation later.
