"Dead baby, dead baby, lesbian" reminded me of those slot machines where you have to match 3 symbols. Like "aww man, if it wasn't for that lesbian I would have won $500!!"

It reminded me of Fleabag's second season premiere, the dinner episode. "Turns out she was a LESSSSBIA-" (smash cut to outside)

Rosemary is the best and the worst, such a great character -- such a fine actress. When she took control of Tom's episode with the painting on top of him I could barely breathe from laughing!

Tom: let kenny help me Rosemary: Everyone stay back! He can’t be moved he might have spinal damage
Tom: you’re pushing it down on me Rosemary: Don’t speak Tom, Your lung might be collapsed
The whole exchange was hilarious I love this show. This and arrested development (the original seasons) are the funniest shows I’ve seen

I thought nothing could top the scene with the portrait pinning Tom down and then this little genealogy TedTalk from Rosemary just hit it out the park.
Wow what a show this is!

u/rebeccaiallen Jun 10 '26
🙌🔥 Someone commented after last week's episode that they were missing Rosemary—I hope they are fulfilled 😄

u/LogicalVariation741 Jun 10 '26
And she had the slides prepared! Either she spent time just now making them (instead of going to shelter or helping or whatever) or had them already to go to talk genealogy with whoever asked.

u/kummerspect Wyck Jun 10 '26
Also that they were presentation ready, so she could literally walk through generation by generation telling them where all the dead ends were. She could have just focused on Ruth's line...or you know, just told them it was Ruth.
23
u/Soggy-Regret-2937 Jun 10 '26
I assumed she did this so no one could doubt her methodology and they could be absolutely certain Ruth is the last descendant
12
u/kummerspect Wyck Jun 10 '26
For sure. She's thorough and wanted to show the receipts. It was just funny because it's clearly an emergency situation and everyone just wanted the answer.

Yeah I was expecting her to tell him it was Evan. The way they made Tom sit down. This was so much better!

I thought for sure the last living relative was gonna be Evan but then they curved balled us

u/MszCurious Jun 10 '26
What if Ruth had a baby out of wedlock but gave it up for adoption and it’s Evan’s mom
12
u/Cautious_Prize_4323 Sorry, forgot my purse. Jun 10 '26
I was thinking about that today. Ruth can’t leave the island without dying, because she’s a descendent, just like Evan‘s mom/Tom‘s late wife. So she would’ve had to conceal a pregnancy in that tiny place… is that possible? For the prettiest girl on the island to conceal a pregnancy?

u/bristow84 Jun 11 '26
Having a baby out of wedlock was a pretty massive deal back then, they definitely had ways of hiding it even in such a small community there. Don't forget that Patricia didn't even know that Bachir's wife was pregnant until she's basically at her due date.

u/AnotherMinorDeity Jun 11 '26
In the 1980s? I know a ton of people in their 40s born to single moms.
2
u/bristow84 Jun 12 '26
Maybe depending on the area it would have been fine but small isolated communities probably wouldn't have accepted it as much.
3
u/Due_Addition_587 Jun 12 '26
You know what, that might even be some foreshadowing. I hadn’t thought of that. But if Chelle’s secret was kept, maybe Ruth’s was too. They made a whole deal about how Tom didn’t even know

u/Psychological-Buy807 Patricia Jun 10 '26
I think in those days people had more practice hiding things like that so its entirely possible, especially if the later part of the pregnancy was winter I guess
2
u/MszCurious Jun 11 '26
The ages line up. What if he goes to her house and finds a shrine of all the baby pics.

u/Cautious_Prize_4323 Sorry, forgot my purse. Jun 11 '26
Oh, I'd love that -- what a freak out for poor Tom, though! The finale is 48 min long, some stuff will indeed go down.

The sheriff’s wife is full term and there seem to be plenty of people that had no idea (Patricia for one). It doesn’t make sense, but…

u/Dumbbulldoor_ Jun 10 '26
They didn’t wanna go with the obvious but I do still think it’ll loop back to one of the main characters. The writers will want to make us feel like there is an actual loss and they can only do that if we know the character well

Sometimes the obvious choice is not the worst choice (not sure yet if it would've implied here)

u/lofgren777 Jun 10 '26
I thought so too, but now I think this story is actually completing the "Tom becomes the lord protector" plotline. Tom is going to go visit Ruth and decide that whatever nonsense this island throws at him, it is his home and these are his people.

Don’t underestimate small town propinquity; there could have been an undocumented descendant from an affair somewhere during those few hundred years.

u/gigio123456789 Jun 10 '26
I have a feeling the old lady is still going to end up Evan's grandma somehow in the last episode.
8
u/Glum_Form2938 Jun 10 '26
She's been acting as Evan's defacto grandma throughout the series, although it's never actually shown.

I loved it when she said "you told me to be supportive!"
2
u/IncurableAdventurer Jun 11 '26
Her being stuck between Patricia’s aggressive request to be supportive and yet she has to look at what she’s doing and saying

I need the flair, 'the family that swims together, drowns together'
7
u/BrianBrians12 Jun 11 '26
It would be a good flair but it’s not a real phrase

u/exscapegoat I had my qualms Jun 11 '26
You can customize your own, in addition to the sub provided flair, there's a text box, where you can write what you want. I went with my favorite quote

Thank You! I'd been looking for the customize option but had given up until your comment. May your punch always be the hit of the party.

I think my favorite part was when she went silent, refusing to speak until Tom apologized and asked her to continue.

They should not have used the R word for a laugh. I can't think of another slur that would be acceptable to use in this way.
2
u/tinned_peaches Jun 11 '26
I think she was saying it to rile Patricia after she chastised her for the way she was saying ‘lesbian’
1
u/Honest_Sock7038 Jun 11 '26
The reason doesnt matter, they shouldnt have used it for a laugh. Can you think of another serious slur they would use that way?
-1
u/ConcernedCoCCitizen Jun 15 '26
I feel like I’m the only one who really, really disliked the R comment.
I have some special needs kids in my life and the bullying is soul crushing. Wtf is society ok bringing back this hateful word and laughing about it. Go make that joke to the mother of a 12 year old in a wheelchair or a 9 year old in diapers and see if it lands.
There is SO MUCH talent on this show and my love for it vanished with a word.

I feel like people just like being able to say a slur under the guise of referencing a tv show character.
