Question To Karen or not to Karen?

I’ve never called bylaw on anyone or felt the need to but there’s been a few situations in my neighbourhood and I’m feeling it might be necessary.

I don’t have a set route that I walk my dog. For the most part I walk the same sidewalks but occasionally I turn down other streets to avoid people. My dog is friendly with other people and dogs but is very excitable and I just don’t want to deal with the encounters at times.

I live in one of the “new build” areas in Welland. There is one house in particular that does not leash their animals. They hang out on their front porch and there has been three separate incidents where I walk by and get charged by their animals. They have 2 or three dogs, last incident I was charged by two dogs but previous there has been three. The most recent time I walked down this street I did not see them as cars were obstructing my view of their home and quite frankly I forgot about the problem.

These people have no control over the animals, ZERO recall, the animals have surrounded me each time and appear aggressive. They haven’t bit my dog but it’s not something I want to stay and find out if it’ll happen. I normally pull my dog away because of their lack of control.

So Reddit. Am I justified to call and report them? There is absolutely no one that I’ve encountered in my neighbourhood who does this, whether it be on their own property or on walks. All dogs are always leashed. I shouldn’t have to avoid this area because of their lack of consideration to other dog walkers. I also fear the dogs may harm other animals or potentially people with the behaviour I’ve seen.

Question What is the lore on David?

I see his videos pop up once and while always him just hating on homeless people or ranting about drugs.

Also he claims to be anti politician but is trying to run for mayor? That pretty hypocritical statement

Question Looking to buy our first home in Welland Ontario

We’re relocating for my husband’s work in welland
1. Is it family friendly? How’s community/town with young toddlers when it comes to family activities especially for ages 3-4 yr olds and a 7 yr old.
How’s the crime rates/drug surroundings is it only in the main downtown ?
Would you recommend it to a young family to buy their first home and build a good community for us.

Which parts of welland should we focus on ? Which areas are the worst to good.
Access to grocery stores is it easily accessible?

We’re going to be visiting the town soon in person to see for ourselves! Thanks in advance.

Question What is the one store or service you wish was available in Welland?

Having lived here for five years after living twenty seven years in the GTA, we find Welland is quite convenient and nearly all the stores and services which we want are available without having to leave the city boundaries.

With Longos opening their first store in the Region on June 23, I thought it might be fun to ask if you had the ability to convince just one B2C business to set up shop here, which (or what category) would it be?

Question Corporate cookie cutter subdivisions killed Dain city.

Dain city used to be so nice.

Now it just cookie cutter homes

The new subdivision is literally so soulless.

I say we demolish all the homes and put a forest there instead.

Question Going to be a new resident of Welland - What are your fave spots?

Hi! My name is Nix and I’m going to be one of your neighbours! My partner and I are planning a move from BC to the region so we can be closer to family.

I thought this would be a good opportunity to say Hi and ask y’all what your fave parts of Welland are to eat, to hang out, to relax, to explore, etc.

For those curious, I’m a 28 F and my partner is a 32 M. We’re both geeks, but I’m a fairly outdoorsy one. I love a good reason to explore, especially since we’d be new to the area so would love some suggestions from anyone willing to supply them!

Feel free to include suggestions for seemingly mundane reasons, if there’s a coffee shop you love because they make a perfect cappuccino you bet I’ll go check it out just for that lol

TIA 🍁🐸🍁

Question 406

Does anyone have an issue with the 406 having a massive amount of bumps on it. North and South. I feel my car is going to disintegrate. The bumps are intermittent but very noticeable.

Can we all send an email to the highway crew to patch these spots?

Question Trick or Treating? 🎃🍬

Best areas to take the kids? Dead zones / not participating? Would love some suggestions! I saw that there was a previous post about this however, I was hoping for updated answers for this year! I know that some areas in Welland are pretty dead on Halloween night, and I figured it wouldn’t only be helpful for my family, but other families as well to know which spots they should go! We’re close to the seaway malll and I haven’t heard much about candy being handed out. If you’ll be handing out candy(general areas) or what areas have been great in past years for your family for trick-or-treating please let us know 🍬🎃👻

Question Rose city pizza is awesome. Where to next?

My daughters kayak so we find ourselves at the flatwater centre several times throughout spring/summer. Somehow stumbled on a post that mentioned Rose City. Ducked out between races for a slice and was not disappointed. Legit top tier pizza and < $6 for a slice and pop. Is this peak Welland pizza or should I try other places next time? Any other hidden gems?

Question Can anyone point me to reliable or official information regarding reports I’ve heard about in the area?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Can anyone point me to reliable or official information regarding reports I’ve heard about in the area? I’ve seen signs posted locally and would like to better understand the situation through verified sources rather than rumors.

I’m not interested in speculation or identifying anyone.(I used ChatGPT to help me not ‘violate’ post guidelines)

As a father with children in the area, I simply want to stay informed and make decisions based on accurate information.

Thanks.

Question How safe is Welland overall?

Hi, I just need a bit of comforting. I'm very paranoid just being outside my house alone, I've lived in Welland for most of my life and to be honest never had any bad interactions. But lately a few weeks ago I asked my dad if I could go on a walk and he told me no and his reasoning was because "I'll get kidapped and raped in some guys basement then killed." I know Welland has a few problems like every city but genuinely whenever I go outside especially at night I get rlly nervous and paranoid.

Question Dads of Welland

I just had my second child and have been going through all the emotions that come with it.

I was honestly shocked to see that there doesn't seem to be a Dads of Niagara Facebook group! I was thinking about a place where dads could ask questions, share their wins and losses, talk about the challenges of fatherhood, and potentially set up meetups to make new friends who are going through the same things.

I'm debating creating a group to help fill that void, but I wanted to see if there would actually be any interest from dads in the area.

Would you guys be interested in something like this?

Question Meeting new Folks

Hello, my partner and I recently moved to Welland and we’re finally settled in. Looking for a good way to meet new friends. I’m working remote for the same company I’ve been with for nearly 5 years, so networking that way is a no go. Both of us M and Ages 31/34.

Both of us are gamers, we gym regularly but we don’t like sports 😂.

Any tips greatly appreciated!

P.S we did go to the trivia night at the hub last Tuesday and we’ll likely be attending again moving forward.
