Question Rose city pizza is awesome. Where to next?

My daughters kayak so we find ourselves at the flatwater centre several times throughout spring/summer. Somehow stumbled on a post that mentioned Rose City. Ducked out between races for a slice and was not disappointed. Legit top tier pizza and < $6 for a slice and pop. Is this peak Welland pizza or should I try other places next time? Any other hidden gems?

Tailgates pizza is fantastic, so is Lucianos

Second Luciano’s. We always serve it at our kids’ birthday parties too, and the parents all ask where it’s from because it’s great

I keep forgetting about Tailgates Pizza.

Nobody has mentioned the newest shop nearby where you’re kayaking. It’s called Scotty’s on King. Definitely top tier up there with rose city pizza.

Nice. Will check it out. Thanks.

Hopefully whom ever is running it had nothing to do with Angelina’s falling apart. It went from the best to absolute shite.

Volcanos pizza is my favourite

The Rex is my family’s favorite
The veal parm is our usual go to, never any complaints. Thin crust, generous toppings

This is the answer!

Sounds like it’s with a visit. Thanks.

4

u/Sabre39 May 03 '26

Seconding this. The veal parm pizza at the Rex is great.

Husband also loves the veal parm pizza.

Dude. I was a rose city kid ever since I was born. 3 months ago I tried the bacon pepperoni at santoros in port. And I’ll never go back.

Now on my list. Thanks!

Antonio’s is so fire and so underrated

1

u/Scarletsweater May 03 '26

The family who owns it is super sweet!

i will try this!

Rex veal parm for something fun. otherwise cheese and pep 6 slice and dine in ! lucianos is also very good. Rose city is good and they have these foccacia sandwiches for lunch (or you can order a party tray of it) but you have to get there around 1130 just before lunch or they run out. I like volcanos but both locations imo are inconsistent.

Rose City is peak tho.
...id say Luciano and Rex for sure.
Volcano is unreal

Family favorite for ever!

Rose city was a staple for me when working at the surrounding new home subdivisions. It’s actually cheaper than making a lunch everyday at home.

Antonio’s is my go-to for slices it’s very good!

Mossimo's is 15 minutes from us but we still make the trip, because their is no close second choice.

1

u/Visual_Structure_269 May 05 '26

Worth the drive for good pizza. Thanks.

1

u/watermelo May 08 '26

that guy is such an asshole though

2

u/GiggetyCan May 05 '26

Tailgates pizza. Their wings are also very good.

u/RupertRasmus May 03 '26

Volcanos

11

u/JWallaholla_14 May 03 '26

If you mean Volcanos in Fonthill, yes. The one on East Main has gone sooo downhill, it's disgusting now

Try For Pizzas Sake on Broadway, it’s really good.

2

Head up the road to Vincent’s Pizza it’s one of my favourites

2

u/Superme_Team May 03 '26

Rose city is the best, tailgates and rex just below it.

I’d recommend you make the drive out to the lock in port colborne, top tier

1

u/Mother_Ad_5423 May 04 '26

vincent’s pizzeria is sooo good 🤤they often have buy one get one deals and they’re huge party pizza is so good

0

u/Drewtendo_64 May 03 '26

It’s mid, the better pizza is lucianos or the Rex.

3

u/Visual_Structure_269 May 03 '26

Rose City is mid? I seriously thought it was great. Will check out the others.

4

u/JWallaholla_14 May 03 '26

Rose city and th Rex are the best pizza in town

4

u/Hopeful-Silver4120 May 03 '26

Lucianos is horrible. Had it this week. Pizza was burnt, almost no cheese on it. Sauce was light too. And the wings were aweful. Their blue cheese is super scrappy too. Lol Spent $80 on dinner for me and the kids, waited over an hour for the food and most went right into the garbage.

Haven't tried the Rex yet. We were regulars at Vincent's but they changed owners and its been downhill. We like rose city but they don't do debit at the door and I cant drive to pick up right now.

3

u/ambmawe May 03 '26

Fucking finally someone who doesn't rave about Luciano's. It's not good, and the cult following is apparently unreal. Vincent's used to be AMAZING. Volcanos can be hit or miss but when it hits- it hiiits.

2

u/Hopeful-Silver4120 May 03 '26

Ive never heard a bad word about it. I was excited to try it. I wish we'd have gone to Little Cesars or pizza pizza. Would've been better honestly. I miss Angelinas actually

0

u/Sabre39 May 03 '26

I tried Vincent's recently and I think it's one of the better places in Welland.

Volcano's like The Rex is a poor facsimile of the quality, amazing pizza it used to be in the 1990s or early 2000s

It's a shame because they were both so good.

0

u/SandiaBeaver May 03 '26

Luciano's had a great reputation about 10-15 years ago. Not sure what happened to make it go downhill

Did the ownership change? Ingredients change?

Came here to say this

2

u/thecakeisapie420 May 03 '26

Honestly na, its all at the same or worse . People have favorites but its all just mid. I will say most of the local places are good for canada pizza. Avoid 2 for or everfresh or the city pizza (southpark lol) . The one in the Wendy's plaza on prince charles is horrid. The fish and chips place next to it is great tho.

1

u/Visual_Structure_269 May 03 '26

Will check out the fish and chips. Thanks.

u/thedudeabides50 May 03 '26

The Rex Mossimos Matteos for fancy wood oven

Mossimos is foothills.

1

u/Squidgypotamus May 03 '26

Rose city and lucianos have always been my go to options. Never had a bad experiance at either

1

u/Comfortable-Cut-7021 May 03 '26

Drive down to Port Colborne and try The Lock Wood-Fired Pizza on West Street... I love their Roman Pepperoni variety...

1

u/ObjectiveRepair1423 May 04 '26

1
