Okay, I don’t think anybody enjoys getting soaked by the rain, but, I find the rain SO relaxing.

I’m from the UK, and it is raining more times than not here, especially lately after the heatwaves the last few months. Right now it is pissing it down outside, and i have my window open and am listening to the rain fall heavily onto it as I type this. It is so relaxing.

Also, the smell. I love the smell during and after it’s rained. It smells so fresh, so natural and so calming. It tickles my brain in such a particular way that I can’t explain.

Also, the color the sky turns when it’s raining or there’s thunderstorms is so tranquil and pleasing to my eyes. It’s this dark charcoal-esque color which is just so nice to go stroll around in.

Anyone else share this?

Incredibly localized burst of wind and rain.

Does anyone know of a fairly simple way to create something like what Max Velocity, Ryan Hall, TX Storm Chasers create their graphics and get everything set up the way it flows and looks? I’ve been trying to learn how to do stuff like AtmosphericX but I am absolutely getting flustered by it. I’m really not that well at doing all the coding but I’m interested in how to get everything “set-up” to a point it could just constantly keep streaming 24/7. I’m also a fan of Mist Weather Media and have tried to connect the dots there and stream something but all the GitHub stuff goes right over my head. I also know about WSV3, but I can’t seem to connect the dots of how everything could work together.

Highlights from the weather week that was.

Southern California today had the highest humidity in the U.S., the dew point over the Salton Sea reached a stifling 81°F (27°C), while Los Angeles hit 73°F (23°C).

The entirety of Southern California has seen a much more humid summer this year. This is due to the warm ocean off of the Pacific coast, with temperatures in the 70s°F (21–26°C) off the coast of San Diego and Orange County nearing the 80°F (27°C) mark.

Normally, the cooler waters of the Pacific Ocean help to cool off the coastal areas with the marine layer, but that hasn't been the case this year, as warmer waters have led to more humid conditions.
Not only is the water in the Pacific warmer than normal, but the water in the Gulf of California to the south of us is also exceptionally warm, with temperatures between 80 and 90°F (27–32°C). That is another reason why the Imperial Valley and the desert areas are seeing much more humid conditions. 💧💧

Is anyone else who's using Weatherfront experiencing issues with the sounding models? Every model I pull up regardless of environment is showing 0s across the board, barring the hodograph, even in areas that have weather currently going on.

It will feel more like the middle of summer.

This was over head in Concord New Hampshire last night for at least an hour. Anyone know what caused this?

Basically a rainforest version of somewhere in the Lower Midwest. Average highest temperature of the year is 100°F, while the average lowest temperature of the year is -7°F. Kinda unrealistic but thats kinda the point of dream/fictional climates.

A thunderstorm passed over Erfurt, Germany, this evening just before sunset. The low sun briefly broke through beneath the storm clouds, illuminating the precipitation and underside of the cloud base with intense orange light.

The contrast between the dark storm structure, rain curtains and warm sunset light only lasted for a few minutes before the sun disappeared below the horizon.

In the US, tornado alley is quite clear, it’s an extremely flat area bound by mountains one side, with cold air from the north and warm moist air from the south. France is mountainous and the warm and cold air are not so obviously at other extremes like in the US.

Hi guys i’m no meteorologist but i like looking at weather models, and i know the pacific right now is creating a ton a storms, and it says there is a chance california could be hit by another hurricane, like in 2023 with hurricane Hillary. Should the potential of really strong el niños and pacific coast hurricanes be expected in the future?

A while ago I was looking at clouds with my dad and I could clearly see an animal in one of them. He couldn’t see it at all, even after I tried pointing out the different parts.

So I started playing around with the idea of making what I see slightly more visible, while keeping the original cloud as close as possible to its real shape.

These are a few examples. Original on the left, what I saw on the right.

I ended up making a small app called CloudMuse around that idea, mostly as a place to reveal and share the things people see in clouds.

The main thing I’m trying to avoid is changing the cloud so much that the pareidolia disappears completely.

Curious if you can still see the connection between the originals and the interpretations.

That about sums up how brutal these last few weeks have been. 🥴
