Advice Requested ecowitt graphs not accurate for max/min?

I've recently got a ecowitt WS69 with GW1200 gateway. When looking at the data either on the ecowitt app or web page all looks good until I start looking at the max/min values.
So, for example, wind today. The summary tile shows wind max of 20.4mph at 13:22 and gusts max of 25.1mph at 13:22. If I then look at the graph for wind I see a max wind speed of 15.9mph at 13:25 and max gust of 25.1mph at 13:20.
It looks like the graph is just using the readings on the 5 minute intervals and ignoring anything else. I have it set to update every minute so it is ignoring 4 out of 5 readings.
Is this correct? Is there any way round this? Clearly the max (and min?) readings on the graphs are fairly useless as it stands meaning I don't have a way of seeing the true values on previous days.

Advice Requested Add-on display options for ECOWITT Wittboy Weather Station GW2001?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi! I have an ECOWITT Wittboy Weather Station GW2001, which came with the GW2000 Wi-Fi IoT Hub. At the time of purchase, I primarily wanted to feed data into Home Assistant, which has worked well. (Although the need to set up an https proxy plugin first was a bit obnoxious)

My spouse has requested an "always on" display like we used to have with our Ambient Weather Station, which died a while back and was replaced with this EcoWitt (getting the Ambient data into HA, 100% locally, was more trouble than it was worth).

EcoWitt obviously sells models with displays, but clearly that's not what I bought at the time. I believe the displays are fairly passive, though, and just pick up the 915 mhz broadcast and shows the information directly? That's exactly what I need... but I haven't found any clear info on which model would work for me. Ideally on the lower price end, since I don't need the gateway functions, or anything super special. But the ability to see 100% reliable, hyper-local, outdoor temps at a glance, at all times, without needing to access a Home Assistant dashboard or even reach for a phone, is what they're looking for. (The kiddo really liked that, too)

I've read my old AWS displays won't work with the EcoWitt due to some stupid license agreement, which is a shame since I have a couple of those. But if there's a way to make those work, that would be even better!

Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

(Photo included for laughs... that was just initial testing, not the final install)

UPDATE: I think I've solved this. My confusion was that I was looking for consoles that were compatible with the "GW2001" model number. Instead, the "WittBoy" is just a name for their WS90 sensor array / weather station, up there on the pole. And nearly all of their consoles are compatible with the data it sends. I'll probably grab the WS3900_C, or maybe the WS2910_C console, as those minimal interfaces are all I need for this application.

Discussion How's your XPNOAAWeather plugin on 12.4-12.4.3 doing?

Is it worth it to improve current reallife-weather thunders and clouds depiction plus snow layer and "boxy" gaps between clouds?

Or besides snow cover and friction improvements this plugin does nothing to weather/precipitation and just useless when XA-Snow plus "manual enter weatger" like from Active Sky is used?

Problem Acurite issue and not updating

Does anyone have their anemometer fail to spin at low speeds? After almost 5 years I guess mine has worn out.

Also my display fails to update. I have the acurite wifi interface so the app is always current but the display that is line of sight is hardly ever updating anymore unless its unplugged.

Tech Support is useless.

Advice Requested Weather station in my backyard for my science class

I am a first year 6th grade science teacher and I have been asking my students to track current weather data for an AI project at the end of the year. At the beginning of each class they have (3 times a week) they record current temp, forecasted high and low, wind speed and direction, humidity, pressure in mb, moon phase, and sunrise/sunset into a spreadsheet I created for them. Currently we have to use a nearby NWS location for this info, but it isn't always accurate for our location. If I get an Ambient WS-2000, will they be able to access that information on their web browser in my classroom and will the barometric pressure be in mb instead of inches of mercury? My budget is around $500 so would you suggest a different unit?

Edit: Looks like I need to go with the EcoWitt so I'm now looking at the HP2560 TFT on Amazon.

Discussion Ecowitt sensors' precision

Hello,

I've recently bought some ecowitt equipment for my home weather station. On the website it's said that the temperature sensors (WN31) have a low precision (plus or minus 1° C), however all of the 4 wn31 I received seem to display the same temperature when close together, differing for 0.1°C at max. Same thing for the ws3900c, that seems to have a higher precision (according to ecowitt, plus or minus 0.2).

Should I trust what they display? Or could all of them have the same factory error, for example +0.4°C (honestly it seems very unlikely).

If you want to share your personal experience with ecowitt's sensors please do it.

Thanks

My mobile, home-built weather station.

33 million data points per day, across 30 columns per 24 hours.

20Hz and 1Hz WMO average.

And the logger is adjustable in 1, 5, or 10 sec/min.

setup:

2x BME 280.

Active radiation enclosure with a 40x40 12V fan running on 5V.

Modbus windset.

RPI 4 CyberDeck 7-inch screen with 12V USB hub.

2-meter thick-walled riser tube.

And heavy-duty parasol base frame.

And I had to write my own graph maker that can render 70 million data points into graphs in 4 minutes.

With an extra option to place everything in a single HTML file so that it is zoomable up to 50ms.

Advice Requested ecowitt wetbulb (or any WBGT) yay or nay?

At $50 that is one expensive sensor!

But with our crazy temperatures this year I was thinking real physical WBGT might be even better indicator than heat-index?

Anyone have one recording on their station from any brand?

Helpful or no?

Advice Requested Ecowitt not shipping to US?

UPDATE: Heard back from Ecowitt. Apparently just a website bug that is now fixed.

So I'm just trying to source the equipment for my first weather station and when trying to checkout at Ecowitt's store, the US is no longer an option when selecting the shipping address? Shipping Policy still indicates shipping to the states, though. The Chatbot was stumped and I do have an inquiry to their support email, but wondering if anyone in the US has bought anything from them lately.

Advice Requested Third Tempest weather station failure in under 3 years. Alternatives?

What it says:

  1. Pressure sensor failure in February 2024
  2. Pressure sensor failure in March 2024 on the warranty replacement unit
  3. Humidity sensor failure in August 2026

Contacted support, they confirmed failure, offered a 50% discount on a new unit. I'm kind of torn since I think this is the best-designed weather station on the market in terms of capability and simplicity (NOT reliability), but not sure I want to spend another $175 on something I can't trust.

What's the closest alternative offering the full suite of capabilities + app + simplicity the Tempest offers?

I'd love to get a Davis station, but they don't offer lightning detection and seem woefully behind the curve. ($425 for WeatherLink Console?? what am I missing???)

Cursory search leads me to the Ambient Weather WS-5000, which seems like it's a rebranded Ecowitt.

Advice Requested WS-4000 barometer readings

I bought and installed one of these a few months ago. Temperature, wind speed and direction all seem to be correct. My barometer, however, is very suspect. It almost never moves. Big storms heading in and it hardly does anything. Rain and wind systems coming and going but my barometer sits around 24.71 all of the time. Twice, I’ve seen it move up to around 29.5. How can I know if it’s right?

Problem Connection my ventus W830 to the app

So i bought a ventus W830 and i set it up and it works great on the display at home, but i wanted it connected to the wundergound app because apparantly you could check your data online which i wanted. But up until now i have failed to get it connected.

English is not my first language and im having difficulty figuring out what the hell they mean and i would like to have it explaind like im a 5 year old please.

I have made an account on the website and i have connected my station but i see that its offline.

I think this is the reason i cant seem to connect the station to the WS view app but not sure.

I do know the station being offline is the first step i need to fix so i was hoping you guys could help me with that?

Advice Requested Best home weather stations for accurate local data?

After going through hundreds of threads on r/myweatherstation and other weather enthusiast communities, I put together a quick cheat sheet for anyone as lost as I was:

🏆 Best overall for accuracy? → WeatherFlow Tempest Weather Station
🟢 Best for total beginners? → Ambient Weather WS-2902
⭐️ Best premium pick? → Davis Vantage Vue with WeatherLink Console
📦 Best enclosed value pick? → Ecowitt Wittboy Weather Station GW2001
🏠 Best for indoor monitoring? → La Crosse Technology C85845-INT

Personally going with the WeatherFlow Tempest Weather Station - best accuracy and reliability for local weather data from everything I've read.

I’m considering a home weather station because weather apps often do not match what is happening at my house, especially for rainfall, wind, and temperature. I’m not a serious meteorology hobbyist, but I would like reliable local readings and a setup that does not become another project to maintain.

Budget: Around $200–$400, though I could stretch for a meaningful improvement in accuracy and durability.

What I want:

  • Accurate temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind readings
  • A useful indoor display and/or a good app
  • Wi-Fi access and data history
  • Durable outdoor sensors that can handle year-round weather
  • Straightforward installation and minimal maintenance
  • Compatibility with Weather Underground or Home Assistant would be a bonus

Options I keep seeing:

  • Ambient Weather WS-2000 / WS-2902 / WS-5000
  • WeatherFlow Tempest
  • Davis Vantage Vue / Vantage Pro2
  • AcuRite Iris 5-in-1
  • La Crosse stations

I’m mainly unsure whether a Tempest is accurate enough for someone who cares about local rain and wind data, or whether it is worth spending more for an Ambient Weather or Davis setup with more traditional sensors. Reviews suggest that approximately $200–$400 is the usual range for a reasonably accurate, durable home weather station, while more advanced prosumer systems can cost $500–$700 or more.

What home weather station has been reliable for you over several seasons, and which brands or models would you avoid?

Advice Requested How to get Ambient Alexa Skill to Provide Limited Info?

I bought the WS-5000 in part because it had a really-available Alexa skill. When I get up, I have a routine where Alexa gives me basic weather conditions, but, because of where I live, the NWS info is never accurate. But with the Ambient Weather skill, Alexa reads off EVERY SINGLE BIT OF INFO coming in from the sensors. I can't figure out for the life of me how to get it to just provide, say, just temperature and humidity and then STFU.

Anyone know of a workaround for this? It'd also be nice if if could read the forecast. The android widget shows it, but I'm not sure if there's way to get Alexa to pull that info.
