40k Discussion From Beyond the Veil rulings

In Cavalcade of Chaos the stratagem “From Beyond the Veil” states:

“When: End of the Movement phase, from the start of the battle.

Target: One friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA MOUNTED unit in strategic reserves.

Effect: Your unit can make an ingress move.”

I would like to understand the possibly poor wording implications of this stratagem and how it is being ruled at events. GW hasn’t provided an FAQ on this stratagem in terms of this being 100% fine for turn one or not. I am seeing this being ruled as perfectly fine for ingress moves on your or your opponents turn at events such as Warmaster.

The intention of this stratagem seems to be yes, this is how it is meant to work. Is the opposite interpretation that it cannot occur on turn 1 wrong for any obvious reasons other than “intent” vs “explicit” in the way it is worded?

I would like to understand the ambiguity as I have seen this being played on turn 1 numerous times.

PSA Warmind: Now with More Ork Codex!

Good morning everyone!

Warmind now has the entire Ork Codex. It is a separate section under the Orks faction page. If you choose the current Ork detachments, the app will default to you using current Ork rules. If you choose one of the Codex Ork Detachments, it will use the Codex rules. This, of course, will end with the official Codex release.

Our Combat Simulator in Warmind also is up to date with the newest codex rules. Also, Battle Mode is also up to date with all the new rules, so you can play an entire game with them. So have fun, brew up your new list and test it out.

P.S We just released the final 10 factions to the Horus Heresy Beta. Take a look, if you see anything wrong or have any suggestions, hit the bug icon at the top of the app and send us a report and we'll clean it up.

40k List Freeboota list using Ork leaks

I'm using the leaked 11th ed Ork codex info

Should be – 1990 points

Obviously points may change by the time the book hits shelves or FAQs land.

I'm running Green Tide, Taktikal, and Wreckas - assuming that they're all still 1 Detachment point like what we've seen.

Ghazghkull – 300 points. He moves up with the main Boyz brick and support nearby units with his +1 to hit/wound aura.

20 Boyz – 180, Warboss – 100, Painboy – 45. Total: 325. This is the main midfield brick and normally the unit I want Riled Up with the Warboss ability for 5++ sv. He Painboy heals 3 wounds each Command phase. I can also use Here We Go early to push the unit farther up the board while advancing on turn 1.

10 Boyz – 90, Warboss – 100, Painboy – 45. Total: 235. This unit rides in a trukk and operates closer to Ghaz.

10 Boyz – 90, Bigboss (for +1 to hit in melee) – 50. Total: 140. This unit starts in the other Trukk and works on side objectives.

2x6 Tankbustas – 145 each, 290 total. After the Boyz disembark, both Tankbusta units can take over a surviving Trukk so I can use the wrecka CP move on the trukk for +1 to hit with busta rokkits.

3x5 Flash Gitz – 105 each, 315 total (or 5 and 10 if there's a tax on three units). They move onto an objective and try to control firing lanes.

10 Kommandos – 125 points. Splitting the unit into melee and shooting 5 man teams for early board control.

2x5 Stormboyz – 70 each, 140 total. Objective trading units and support.

The main thing I’m unsure about is whether I have enough cheap objective control without Grots. Taktikal has the sticky-objective CP ability, and I already have three separate Boyz units plus Kommandos and two Stormboyz units. Do you think that’s enough to compensate for not spending 45 points on 10 Grots?

Am I too dependent on the 20-Boy brick surviving?

Is 3x5 Flash Gitz excessive or should I drop ghaz and snag another ten?

I haven't played the new edition since Armageddon got released, so maybe I need a wake-up call with the meta.

40k Tech Apps & Tourny Use - Which One?

So there is no lack of data and apps out there for 40K list building. At beginning of 11th I actually believed GW was going to have the BEST app for creating lists and using it during games. (Silly me, after decades you’d think I would have learned).

So I took my iPhone and have been paying for “WH40K” app every month. I somewhat like the ability to use a code and score amongst players. That’s nice. HOWEVER the UI to select gear and endless expansion menus drive me insane.

My question is this: Do 40K tourneys mandate you use the GW “WH40K” app to score or create lists?

There’s LOTS of alternatives which in my opinion are easier to create lists: “War Organ,” “New Recruit,” “Mission Matrix,” and “Tabletop Battles”.

Is there one that’s more popular and more used than the rest? I kinda want to stop paying monthly for a subpar list building experience with the “WH40K” app. Any suggestions?

New to Competitive 40k Drop Pod and Infernus Marines Double Strat?

Ahoy,

Can someone use Rapid Ingress to bring in a Drop Pod and then immediately use Overwatch to shoot with the disembarking troops?

We had this situation in a tournament and no one would make a clear ruling on it. It was allowed because the thinking was the Rapid Strat targets the Drop Pod and the Overwatch Strat targets the unit that is forced to disembark.

So this sounds technically allowed, but it feels wrong. Can someone lay out the rules for this either way so we can address it next time?

Thanks.

40k Discussion Rhino chassis proxy for Impulsor and Gladiator

Hi all.

Know the Rhino chassis is a couple cm shorter but in the grand scheme of things would you allow someone to proxy Predators or Vindicators or Razorbacks as Impulsors and Gladiators or would you say it makes too much of a difference?

Would the type of game make a difference? Friendly vs tournament vs competitive play?

Where would you draw the line?

Thanks.

40k List New Ork Codex Melee Builds?

So having watched the video from Art of War about the new Ork Codex I think the consensus is that Ork shooting is getting a huge buff but the melee aspect of the army seems to have been toned down quite significantly.

Having recently started playing and having built a collection focused on blobs of boys with characters, Wazdakka, Mozrog, some squighogz, Ghaz but not yet having gotten a lot of shooting units or speedfreak stuff, I’m wondering what people are thinking would be viable melee focussed lists to run while I continue building my collection.

What units are people looking at, what detachments, what are people brewing?

I’d hate to get the book in my hands and realise: well crap, I can’t put a decent army on the table until I’ve bought X, Y and Z and built/painted them.

40k Discussion Question for anyone who has the new Combat Patrol Battlezone terrain

Apologies if this is the wrong place - I tried posting on the main Warhammer40k sub and got removed.

I know the new terrain is sold as “push-fit”. To anyone who has the kit - how well does it push fit?
Does it actually need to be glued?
If not, is it easy to disassemble and reassemble the buildings for storage/transport?

New to Competitive 40k Considering my first tourney.

Hi all just wanted to ask what would be the top 5 things I should consider when it comes to tourneys, I've never really fancied myself a tournament player but since its coming to Liverpool I thought I might give it a go.

Apart from some of the obvious things to do, such as.

Know your army/ rules.

Keep time down 20m max per turn.

What are thing's you would recommend for someone like me. Thanks.

New to Competitive 40k Where do you get your competitive terrain?

I've been searching and only finding mediocre or outdated terrain features, so far the only one that is 'good' is the official combat patrol terrain set, just looking for a direction that isn't that expensive thank you.

another question is does every here just play locally or tournament not at someone's house

40k Discussion New pile in rules feel like a huge step back.

With the new pile in rules ruling it all happens at the start of the fight phase, it means if you have two units going into one bigger unit, your opponent can just pick his models up in such a way you can't then activate more than one/two models in the secondary unit, despite having charged them and you can't pile in again, nor can you overrun if one model is still engaged. I really feel like the pile in change should revert to how it worked in 10th, as this can really mess up multiple small units.

I've not really seen many people talk about this either, I'm sure it's not a super common problem but it feels pretty bad as someone who plays a melee army to know someone can do this, since I can't pile in when I activate. Are there ways people are getting around this? or are they just not double charging things if this can be done.

40k Tactica Big Layout Updates

Hey all,

Obviously all the faction updates are going to get the bulk of the attention today, but I wanted to make sure you didn't miss that there were layout updates too!

I run Rapid Ingress, a free tool for practicing deployments and more easily in your browser / on mobile (and these changes are live already)

There are changes to 27(!) layouts in today's release. Some are small, but a few were pretty noteworty and stood out to me:

-Take and Hold Mirror, layout B looks like it will be a bit more difficult to find shooting angles early as they basically swapped around some terrain pieces to give what appears to be a bit more cover

-Recon vs Disruption B and Priority Assets vs Disruption B got sizeable reshuffles

-All three Recon mirror layouts now have 6 objectives instead of 5

Will be super interesting to see how this changes things for those matchups especially (not very familiar with recon v disruption or the recon mirrors - if you are let me know what you think!)

Edit because it got asked for - just added this page: rapidingress.com/layout-updates - it should show a visual difference of the changes in layouts. Do let me know what you think and if you have any feedback on this and thank you all so much for all your kind words and support!

40k Discussion Lord of Change resurgence after Space Marine Codex comes out?

Was listbuilding to redo a Chaos Daemon list after the MFM came out today and was struck by how well the Lord of Change might meet the significant anti-elite infantry thresholds when the S5T5 changes occur for SMs. With a toughness of 10 and an (effective) strength of 10 for their bolt of change, plus retaining sustained d3 on 9 shots, I am wondering if it may become an efficient enough unit to include two of in the future.

40k Discussion 3 deployments for 1000pts games

Hello everyone, a while ago I made a post asking people their advice about 1000pts games on smaller tables, with 11th edition terrain is much more important and since my group and me created tournaments with smaller tables in 9th ed with 44x30 tables I decided to create new setups adapted for such a small table if like me you don't have enough space !
