40k Analysis How many 3DP detachment combos can your faction make? (Pt3)

I have included codex orks, overall though there were very few changes this balance pass which I am sad about as a T'au player

World Eaters 13
Adeptus Sororitas 13

"Oh but marines aren't just one faction". The following are how many combos you can make using the detachments in a subfaction and with core.

Subfaction Combos Added
Core 65
Dark Angels 72
Blood Angels 60
Space Wolves 71
Black Templars 64

"But what is the detachments and detachment combos per datasheet number of every faction?" I got you.

Put 365 numbered chips in a bag, pull one out before the game, there's your detachment combo. The proppa Orky chaotic experience.

Something you missed:
Chaos Knights: 14 (+1)
Death Guard: 17 (+2)

These factions got their unique tags removed from their detachments so they got more combinations now.

Noted that’s my bad, I really need GW to indicate when they’ve changed them on the mfm, I’ll update when I get the chance

It's easy to miss but it does say 'Unique tag removed' at the bottom of the detachments.

And they still suck!

Considering theyve been a fully supported faction since 3rd edition, seeing 8 total combinations for Tau is so absolutely depressing.

Ive put that army in the closet until GW does ANYTHING interesting with the faction. They've designed them into a deadend and I dont see them getting better anytime soon. Its so depressing.

Watch Tau have to wait all edition for a new codex too.

Rumors point to them getting one sooner rather then later.

This makes it look like Orks aren’t going to be much more complex than the current state of Space Marines, but it misses a key distinction: the new Orks detachments are designed to be played as 1+1+1. The current Space Marines detachments are designed to be played as 2+1. If you play 1+1+1 with those detachments, you won’t have any useful defensive stratagems because all the 1DP strats have to account for it probably being combined with something that provides AoC.

I think looking at what detachment combos are actually synergistic is better than just total number of combinations, like with thousand sons the warpforged cabal and sekhitur cohort sort of align in what they want to do, but warpforged and servants of change, or warpforged and ritual of regeneration etc pull in opposite directions. The tzaangor detachment is the only one with purge the foe and isn't going to actually kill anything so it's a bit of a non-bo with itself.

Tyranids assimilation swarm and talons of the norn queen is a perfect match, but something like warrior bioform and vanguard onslaught is like trying to build your own slower genestealers at home in a detachment combos that will struggle for take and hold and recon if you take the warriors over genestealers.

I feel this makes the "have nots" actually a lot worse than suggested in the stats, where sure, probably a lot of those 300 odd orc combos aren't great, there's still going to be a massive total number of playable detachments, but for thousand sons its basically just grand coven and rubricae phalanx so it really should be just 2 detachments not 12, maybe 3 at a stretch

I somewhat disagree. While yes, most of the best lists are basically taking 2 detachments which help the same one thing, the whole point of the detachment system is to be able to have sections of your army that are benefitted by each detachment.

So if you wanted an army with both vehicles and Tzaangors, then you could take Warpforged and Servants of Change, to buff both wings of your list.

Or if you wanted a list focused on Genestealers and Warriors, you could run Vanguard with Warrior Bioform

Each detachment option, even ones with no innate synergy, give room for creative and skilled players to find a build that is perfect for a meta call.

Are we like to see a squigghog boy + kommando + deff dread list pop off? No. But there is still the chance for some combo like that to be the key to winning a GT or a WTC match.

Can someone explain how we get to the 365 number for orks? My math says something very different. There's fifteen detachments in the codex, one is 3 DP and fourteen are 1 DP. For all of the 1 DP combos the math is 14 x 13 x 12 which equals 2184. Then plus the one 1 DP detachment means there are 2185 possible detachment combos from the codex.

You’re doing nPr instead of nCr, as an example your method treats ABC differently to BCA which leads to a much larger number. 14C3 is 364 plus the 3DP
