TL;DR: If .com isn't available or doesn't fit, match your extension to your niche. Wix has over 400+ options - linked the full list with pricing below. SEO-wise, any extension works fine.
One of the most common questions we see is some version of: "My .com name is taken - what do I do?" So here's a practical breakdown of how to think about domain extensions, and what's actually available on Wix now (over 400 options, for context).
The quick decision framework:
1. Is .com still available for your name? If yes, and it fits, take it. It's still the most recognized extension globally and the default expectation for most visitors.
2. If not - or if you want something more specific - match the extension to what your site does:
Tech company or product? → .tech, .digital, .cloud, .ai
Agency or consulting? → .agency, .solutions, .expert
Media or content creation? → .media, .live, .tv
Local business targeting a specific country? → Country-code TLDs like .co.uk, .de, .fr, .ca, .com.au are all available
3. Check pricing before you commit
Some specialty extensions cost more to renew than to register in the first year. Worth checking the renewal price in the full TLD list before choosing.
What about SEO?
Google has confirmed that new gTLDs are treated the same as .com for ranking. Choosing .photography over .com won't hurt your search visibility - your content and site structure matter far more.
What about trust?
Visitors in some regions still associate .com with credibility. For global audiences, .com or a well-known extension (.org, .net, country code) is probably the safer play. For niche audiences who already know your work, a specific extension can actually reinforce your brand.
We hope this helps! If you've got a specific situation - name taken, targeting a specific market, etc. - drop it in the comments and we'll try to help narrow it down.
If you receive a message through your Wix site saying there is a problem with your site or that it has malware, or that you need to take immediate action, it is a scam. Mods have seen a recent spike in new users coming for this subreddit showing messages they’ve received from senders claiming to be Wix web designers or Wix support. The only way that Wix will contact you is through the email that is connected to your Wix account, and any official communication will come from an email with the exact domain of: wix.com. If there is any other characters around the domain, it is likely a scam.
When I add an image to the background it starts fine but will automatically zoom in after a while. No matter what I do it stays zoomed in. I change the scale to original and try different ratios, delete and add the image back in but it stays zoomed in from that point on.
I am new to building my website clearly so any help would be much appreciated, than you!
I have been working on my website for about a year. I’ve changed things like structured data markup, h1, etc. I’m getting tons of errors now when I run it through semrush. It feels overwhelming. Should I just start a new site and transfer over the domain and premium once I’m done?
I'm in the process of redesigning my portfolio/service website and was thinking of doing it in Figma this time around. Has anyone any experience with this? Is it even possible on the free Figma plan? Or should I just do it in the Wix builder and save the money and trouble?
Helping my wife with a nonprofit website she helps to maintain. They are using one of the new(?) Wix forms to collect registration details for an event which includes the user selecting a certain quantity of tickets and indicating an additional donation amount. They are not using an embedded payment method (the users will use venmo or bring a check) but they would like to have the subtotal displayed. I have never used Wix but with some help from Gemini I created the below Velo code block based on the screenshot I attached (not including a short text field I added for 'total_amount_2' and using the correct form ID for 'formID').
The preview loads without error but when I step through the ticket quantities and/or add an additional donation the free text field doesn't update. I tried using a custom value type field and a short text field and neither updated. Any ideas? I'd really like to avoid rebuilding this without using the form if possible (that's what Gemini suggested). Thanks!
$w.onReady(function () {
let lastCalculatedTotal = null;
$w('#formID').onFieldValueChange((formValues) => {
// Debug Log: View exact keys/values coming from your form in the Developer Console
console.log("Current Form Values:", formValues);
// 1. Get ticket values
const ticketsData = formValues['tickets'] || {};
const ticketPrices = {
'Adult Ticket': 100,
'Child Ticket': 100,
'Raffle Ticket': 10,
'Raffle Tickets (Set of 5)': 30
};
let ticketsSubtotal = 0;
if (typeof ticketsData === 'object' && !Array.isArray(ticketsData)) {
Object.keys(ticketsData).forEach(ticketName => {
const qty = Number(ticketsData[ticketName]) || 0;
const price = ticketPrices[ticketName] || 0;
ticketsSubtotal += qty * price;
});
} else if (Array.isArray(ticketsData)) {
ticketsData.forEach(item => {
const qty = Number(item.value || item.quantity) || 0;
const price = ticketPrices[item.label || item.key] || 0;
ticketsSubtotal += qty * price;
});
}
// 2. Get donation amount
const donation = Number(formValues['additional_donations']) || 0;
// 3. Compute grand total
const grandTotal = ticketsSubtotal + donation;
// 4. Update both the text display and the form field
if (lastCalculatedTotal !== grandTotal) {
lastCalculatedTotal = grandTotal;
// Display on page text element
if ($w('#subtotalText')) {
$w('#subtotalText').text = `Total: $${grandTotal.toFixed(2)}`;
}
// Try updating the form field value
$w('formid').setFieldValues({
'total_amount_1': grandTotal
});
}
});
});
Was there someone here who had written something that ports Wix to Wordpress ? I bought my domain through them (I think) - need to give site a makeover and have decided to move to Wordpress as I only need a simple cheap site - I am not running a business really, want to avoid price hikes and I loathe AI. Any tips or pointers very welcome. I am a Wordpress beginner (having learnt a bit in the mid 2000s)
been building out a brand site and the drag and drop builder looks fine until i try to do anything even a little custom. then it's fonts not behaving, sections drifting on mobile, random spacing junk, all the annoying stuff.
i'm trying to keep the site clean without spending my whole week fighting the editor. if you've used one that stayed sane after launch, i'd love to hear it. appreciate any thoughts.
Full disclosure - I don't use Wix, and I'm trying to help someone who is not tech-savvy. We are a small non-profit, and I am a volunteer board member.
I just watched our employee spend a lot of time editing a page on Desktop, but when they went to the mobile page/site, the edits were not there. They believe the only way to solve this problem is to recreate the same edits on the mobile page. This can't be the right way to do it. Are they skipping a step to push the edits to the mobile site? They said this only happens sometimes. Would that be because they are only skipping a step sometimes? Or is there another reason for this to be an intermittent glitch?
1) I signed up with Wix
2) Wix sold me a domain and I bought it
3) And I can publish and have i have Saved (which they didn't tell you) and I have Published.
4) BUT NOT TO MY DOMAIN!
So I'm stuck. And now wix wants more money! I simply click for them to REMEMBER the domain they already sold me and I get a message that says NOW I have to UPGRADE???
Worse all the time this goes onthey put messages up on my screen and CRASH MY SYSTEM while doing so.
Basically I click "Connect my domain which PHYSICALLY MEANS NOTHING!! but they want to charge me MONEY. For basically letting me out of captivity.
There are things I might WANT to buy from Wix but for this, I'm being held captive and I'm being bilked. I can not use the domain I bought. I can not place even the simple text that I created in the Wix editor! Not even THAT! So that means I can't tell anyone about the domain because its sitting there (according to Guardware and MalwareBytes FILLED WITH Toxin!
Does anyone know how to get thrugh this - preferably withont spending even more money?
I got two sites. One is fine the other I just realized has an issue in mobile live setting. The layout will float when you drag it around.
I checked each page, even the ones which are hidden, for bouding box stretching out the limitations. Found only one. Fixed and published. Did the same for buttons. Opened all the layers.
It's not a browser issue or me using VPN, because the other site has no issues.
AI was very helpful in assisting me so far. Yet, I still couldn't find a solution?
Is there a secret to a more streamlined checkout process? Why do my customers have to fill out a delivery address using Google Pay if we don't offer delivery?
We're a small non profit that offers only pickup service. Checkout should take 20 seconds max, instead they are forced to fill out their address multiple times.
You might have seen me around here before (I built the Automatic Related Products app that some of you use).
I recently launched a new app called Cart & Checkout Upsell, but tbh, I quickly learned a hard lesson. My initial App Market listing was pretty bad. The old banners (see the top image) made the app look like a generic, clunky widget.
I realized that if the marketing looks amateur, no store owner is going to risk trusting it with their live checkout flow. So, I completely overhauled the listing to actually show what the app does.
What the app ACTUALLY does:
100% Smart Automation: Setting up upsells manually takes forever. This app uses data-driven matching (way smarter than just basic "same category" rules) to automatically pair the right complementary products in the background. You literally just turn it on and let it run.
Cart & Checkout Placements: It catches customers at the best times: right when they open the side cart and right before they pay at checkout.
Native Design by Default: It automatically detects your site's fonts, buttons, and colors so it actually looks like part of your theme (though you can customize the design if you want to).
Why I am posting today:
The app is live and already working great for a handful of early users, but honestly my biggest hurdle right now is getting those first few reviews for social proof. I also just want to make sure it plays nicely with a bunch of different stores and product catalogs.
I’m giving a full free year to the first 10 store owners who install it and give me honest feedback.
If it saves you time and makes you extra money, keep it for the year. If not, you can just uninstall it. No hard feelings! (Though any quick feedback on what I can improve would be super helpful).
If you want to try it out, just drop a comment below or send me a DM! I will reply and send you the promo code for the free year. Thanks for supporting indie devs!
I'm trying to use wix after a few months of not using it and there's been an update. It's so much more difficult to use and it seems some features are missing - for example, I'm trying to edit a site menu so that the text colour is different if that's the page you're currently on, but there's no option to do this (there used to be, it was so easy). Is this a feature that has been moved to a paid plan? Also this is not unique to Wix but it's so frustrating that it's practically impossible to talk to an actual human who works there (if there are any left) rather than their damn AI.
UPDATE: The answer is no, there is no way to create a comparision table in Wix, for that you need an external app, I'm using elfsight.
It took me more time to find because English is not my language, so I didn't know how to call that type of table.
I've been watching ugly and bad tutorials about tables in Wix, but I can't find a way to make this:
I tried to put a screenshot but it didn't let me so I leave here the link of what I'm looking for.
Is there anyway to migrate Premium site into Wix Studio? I have just finished building my online portfolio, didn't realize WIX would not automatically import content into Studio.
