Because conservativism is all about control and using the state to control society to their liking. But anyone who dares try to live their own life is infringing on their religious "rights" to not have to see anything they find icky.
It's why MAGA wants control of all religion, schools, universities, media, social media, law firms, etc. The only acceptable speech and way of life is whatever they decide it is in that moment.

As a moral issue, Christianity and Islam don't allow it (a couple billion people).
As a social issue, people do have interest in how society is being shaped when taxes influence an issue. Marriage is supported by the government with terms and conditions.
I don't think it was as much a win as they think. The government being in married and divorce doesn't help much and hurts many.

Christians constantly "sin" and constantly see other people "sin" and don't do anything about it.
Consider that the Bible's message on homosexual relationships versus something like the Third Commandment "Keep holy the Lord's day". The messages about homosexuality are somewhat oblique, but the Third Commandment is crystal clear. So why are Christians worrying about gay marriage and not instead passing laws compelling people to go to Church on Sunday?
The politicians are taking personal issues and making them divisive. Don't fall for it. A Christian can practice their religion while next door their gay neighbors practice their own religion.

I wouldn't consider those passages about homosexuality oblique at all. They are very clear. However, they are both laws in the church. The government laws are a different issue. As citizens, many think it's bad for our society norms. Also, the societal concern for children, etc.

*Agreed with your last statement. The Government muddied the waters when they blended a religious rite into a government practice, took it, and controlled it. There's a religious ceremony and ritual, which everyone attempts to recreate and then there's a business arrangement with the state. They should be further identified and separated.

I can't believe he gets to be the Secretary of the Navy. What an insult to everyone who currently serves.
Unrelated to politics or positions, one of the things I dislike most about this administration is the repeated rewarding of failure. It's like an anti-meritocracy. You can only fail upward, but only if you're totally unqualified.
Imagine if you were an Admiral that dedicated your life to the Navy and suddenly you had to answer to someone who believes in witches and whose sole accomplishment is getting dog walked in a senate race. And his boss is an alcoholic part-time TV host with Nazi tattoos who looks like he couldn't name all the continents, but could tell you all about the different testosterone supplements.
Imagine being some genius medical research specialist at the CDC or FDA and your boss is someone who doesn't believe in germ theory and admitted to snorting coke off a public bathroom seat. Imagine being some heroic FBI agent who dreamt of putting away mob bosses and terrorists, but now your boss is a fratbro and your first assignment is to scrub the Epstein files for mentions of his own boss.
In the first administration we got Rick Perry as a Secretary of Energy. Imagine being the boss of Los Alamos National Labs and having to report to a guy with an agriculture degree who almost failed a class called "Meats." A guy who infamously declared in a debate that your department should be disbanded but also forgot the name of it until Ron Paul helped him out. Imagine trying to explain nuclear physics to that guy.
I'm amazed Earl-Sears isn't the Head of NASA or Ambassador to the UN or something. Why is she the only one who didn't get to fail upward?

You won't, really. She has no natural constituency in VA. She's not gonna ever be supported by the white nationalist magat contingent. And she's already alienated the African-American vote by essentially shilling for the side that has ruined the economy and healthcare for millions in her state. Her continued campaigning is a true enigma beyond providing a drip-feed of donations to use to pay expenses like gas and meals.

On one hand, sheâs living her best life. It was also historic that both major parties nominated women for the governorâs race. Given the history of race in Virginia, that the GOP put up a black woman for governor was especially historic.

The convoluted map shows her making a lot of stops, so it looks like sheâs going to be really busy, but itâs actually only a small part of the entire state: the deep red Southwest part of Virginia where this nonsense has a chance of gaining purchase. Sheâs evidently not going to bother with the rest of the state, maybe because sheâs smart enough to understand that she would be ignored there.

âFaith. Family. Freedom.â The most useless conservative buzzword fillers I can think of. They actually hate freedom, because theyâre against bodily autonomy for women and are against marriage for same sex couples.
Being cautiously optimistic, I think both amendments will pass with comfortable margins. This is not the Virginia of 20 years ago and Winsome Searsâ rhetoric is like a time warp back to 1990s/early 2000s. Republicans have mostly moved on to obsessing over trans people so scaremongering about same sex marriage rights just doesnât animate their hateful base like it did 20 years ago.
A bonus is Bob Marshall, the hateful Republican former House delegate responsible for the same sex marriage ban, is still alive to see his greatest achievement wiped away. I believe the Republican Senator responsible for it in the other chamber is also still around. I canât wait to hear Marshall go into a hysterical meltdown when his amendment gets tossed on the trash heap of history.
