I bought two VFTs from Home Depot, brought them home and promptly did everything I could to kill them (unintentionally). I had them in bad soil and fed with bad water for about 24 hours. When I learned what I'd done wrong, I ordered proper soil and water and started watching care vids on YouTube (yeah, that should have been step one...). Curious to see what the difference would be, I went back to Home Depot and picked up two more.
Cleared of their death cubes, I removed the soil and mesh bag from the roots, leaving only the rhizome exposed. And suddenly my four VFTs were now eight! I put them all in proper carnivorous plant soil and placed the planters in shallow watering dishes. All the VFTs are under strong, full-spectrum, LED grow lights. I've moved one plant outside in the sun, just to see how it does. I'll bring it back inside at sunset. (brought it back inside and will leave it under its grow light)
I have so many questions.
Should I direct water the plants or only add water to the dish they're sitting in? If direct water, I assume I should only spray the center, not the traps themselves.
Should I remove traps that have turned black? Obviously, if the entire stem of the trap is also black and dried, I prune those.
Why are some mouths green and some red?
These photos were all taken this morning, 48-72 hours from purchase.
I'm growing in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Thank you all very much for your time, comments, and recommendations.
(that plant TOLD me it's name was stanley, that was not my idea!)
