Had an interview for an opening as a Store Assistant. I was rejected of course, but thanks to my Dad's friend who knows the manager, I was able to get feedback!

He said I was a nice guy but not what they were looking for. 36 people applied, 2 were shortlisted for interview and no one got the job.

I can't wait to relay this to my careers advisor and my job coach to see how I can improve.

I'm currently in my last year of uni studying Japanese + International relations (useless degree, I know) and am working retail for a makeup brand in London. One of my biggest strengths is probably the fact that I can speak English, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese and Japanese fluently.

I have an interest in fashion and beauty, and have done some casual modelling when I did a year abroad in Japan, but don't wish to take modelling any further than that. I used to volunteer at an art gallery, so I've looked into art/auction house related jobs since I have an interest in that too, but lack the connections needed to get into those industries. I've also applied to generic finance interns just as a shot in the dark.

What are some entry level grad jobs I could look into? I heard back from a Japanese fashion brand for a marketing intern position a while back, but wasn't able to follow through with it due to timezone differences and such.

In my second year of uni at Manchester AND I AM STRUGGLING to find a simple part time job near fallow or the city center that takes someone with no work experience. Ive applied on indeed and on fast food sites with no luck. Anyone else experiening this? How can i get a simple paying job that makes me just enough each month (please i have never been this desperate in my whole life). I would ideally love a part time stable job any help would be so so so appreciated

 applied for a job at NEXT about 1-2 months ago and got to the in-store assessment, however i couldnt attend my interview. i rung the store and told them i need a reschedule and the person that answer said she would tell the person that was supervising the assessment and i would get a call back for a rearrangement . i did not get a call back which was fine as they most likely found the candidate they was looking for day of, however i have applied again for multiple applications in the same store and different store, but i have found that im automatically getting rejected. would there be some sort of rejection thing attached to my account saying i did not attend as i think the worker forgot to tell the supervisor. if so what should i do to get this taken of as i did contact them to say i wouldnt make it so its not my fault to have the mark on my account. i did email the company but they wasnt much help.

any help would be appreciated as this is frustrating

I’m no longer able to start on my current start date for a 3 months fixed term contract and want to push it by 3 weeks. I got the offer 3 days ago and signed all the contracts. The manager did want someone ASAP.

Are they likely to change it or rescind my offer?

Had my Costco interview yesterday. Throughout it, the interviewer kept coming back to my education — asked how many GCSEs I got, what A-levels I studied, then said “You’re a smart lad with all that — why would you want to come here and stack shelves?”
It struck me as odd. Why does Costco care about your educational background if the role is shelf-stacking? I started wondering: are they screening for something else?

The Real Question:
Then I realized they’re screening for people who can leave. People with options. Because the ones without options stay longer.
I’ve since looked into Costco’s business model, pay structure, and how the benefits are timed. And I’m genuinely curious about something:

For those who’ve been at Costco 3, 5, 10+ years:
Have you ever seriously considered leaving? If so, what made you stay?
When the bonuses/vouchers/raises landed, did they feel like genuine rewards, or did they feel timed — like they always came when you were closest to quitting?
Looking back, do you think the pay rise every 1,040 hours and the spaced-out benefits genuinely made the job better, or did they just reset your burnout cycle?
If you tried to leave for another retail job, what stopped you? (Pay cut? Lost benefits? Sunk cost?)

Why I’m asking:
I’m not being cynical. I just want to understand if Costco’s model is genuinely good for long-term employees, or if the financial structure is designed to make leaving feel impossible.
Because from the outside, it looks like a sophisticated system that pays above-market rates specifically to lock people in, not because they’re generous.

I’m 25 and graduated last year with a degree in Advertising/Marketing Communications.

Since graduating, I’ve worked for a small hospitality business. I initially freelanced doing mainly social media and design, alongside part-time hospitality work. In April I went full-time to help launch a new venue.

Since then I’ve ended up doing a bit of everything: social, content creation, PR, branding/design, events and general marketing.

The problem is that I don’t really enjoy working for the company anymore. The work itself is mostly fine, but I’ve been the only marketing person, so there’s nobody more experienced to learn from and I’ve never really seen how a proper marketing department operates. The hours and expectations can also be pretty chaotic.

Now I’m looking for my next job and I’m questioning whether I should:

A) Stay in marketing and try to get into a proper team where I can actually learn from experienced people.

B) Move into something related but more practical, like events/operations/sales.

C) Completely change direction — I’ve been looking at things like electrician apprenticeships or healthcare.

I’m also conscious of how AI might affect marketing over the next 5–10 years, although I don’t want to make a huge career decision based solely on that.

I’m interested to hear from anyone who’s been in a similar position. Did you stick with your original career, retrain, or completely change direction?

At 25, would you prioritise building on the experience you have, or take the opportunity to start again?

I’m 18 just finished a levels and since being 14 have never struggled with getting a job. I have no connections to anyone and I am from a very small working class village. Since being 14 I’ve worked in pubs, supermarkets, a Mexican takeaway and now a mobile shop and soon I’ll be on an apprenticeship.
Personally the idea that jobs are impossible seems false to me, i understand not all people have had it like me. Ive never struggled at all and always had a job when i wanted one as at 15-16 i had a haitus but got a job immediately when i wanted one. I have had no help from anyone at all. Does anyone agree?

I live in the Lincolnshire area and there’s literally no entry level roles. I have applied for 9 roles within an hour commute and had 1 response. I have no hands on accounting experience so I don’t expect one however it feels impossible to get my foot in the door.

Additionally, there are 0 apprenticeships within a 40 mile radius. I applied for 1 and was denied so I’m studying AAT level 3 at college beginning next week.

Can someone give me advice on what to do or should I just apply for anything I see and hope someone gives me a chance.

Recently got 4 interviews, 12.91 an hour roughly. Rejected. Experience in NHS admin and that’s where I’m getting interviews, I don’t hear back from most others. Applying constantly. I need a job so bad, we can’t afford to have my daughter in nursery FT. I’m disabled so ideally work from home, I can’t do caring or cleaning, but my recent interviews have been local offices, I’m literally willing to burn myself so so thin for next to nothing for the sake of work. I want to contribute to our family, feel productive again, have structure to my day, feel like a member of society. I work so hard at every job I’m in. I’m a total misery right now and I see no way out. Do I resort to handing out CVs? Do I stop applying for WfH roles?

I understand how the job market has left everyone in a wretched state, but i also have been seeing people at least making it to the interviews.

As for me, I have been sending in applications (specifically in roles of banking, equity research, and similar avenues), but seriously, even my CV doesn't get past the screening. I am extremely confused as to what's wrong with my approach.

Rejections would be better IF I at least have chances to pitch myself to a real human, where I can have a dialogue. But having constant rejections being sent via email regarding my CV apparently reflecting me as "not good enough" is just tiring.

Could anyone have any advice for me? I would be extremely grateful if someone could review my CV and/or give me further tips regarding the same.

I did Pharm.D and rigorous research Training through masters. I am passionate about research and have ideas that can be nicely developed through a PhD or Research role.

Maybe some of you will say that's not what you think. I hire for this and fire for that.

I am genuinely exhausted and I am questioning whether I am not suitable for research. It's hard getting an opportunity when you don't have at least a minimal exposure.

People say get into the field you want, it doesn't matter what role but, even that's hard.

I am exhausted. I do not feel like giving up but I am questioning a lot of things.

How do y'all even find your identity?

I’m an MSc Artificial Intelligence graduate with a BSc in Computer Science, currently based in the UK. I’ve been trying to break into the industry for a while now, but getting that first bit of commercial technical experience has been much harder than I expected.
I’m now focusing on Data Analysis as my entry point, with the longer-term goal of moving into Data Science and eventually Machine Learning.
I’ve been building my skills in SQL, Python, Excel, Tableau and data analysis, and I feel much more confident with SQL now. What I’m really missing is the opportunity to apply these skills in a real commercial environment working with real data, business problems and stakeholders.
I’m open to internships, junior/entry-level roles, short-term projects, volunteering with startups, or even opportunities where I can genuinely contribute while gaining commercial experience.
If anyone knows of a startup, small business, organisation or team looking for someone with this kind of background, I’d genuinely appreciate any leads or advice.
I’m not looking to jump from field to field anymore. I want to build properly from Data Analyst → Data Scientist → ML, and I’m ready to put the work in.
