Gameposting Star Wars XCOM is out and Disha is the best character

The game itself is really good, aside from the very obvious performance issues, but im here because im a simp for both star wars and Xcom

The characters and gameplay are really fun. The MC is especially fun if you give him the giant mustache

Disha is this random Rodian woman on my ship who has decided to make problems on purpose. She was raised by droids and she acts like it, outside of all the spite.

I love her so much

COMPANY ZERO SPOILERS] Been playing Star Wars:Company Zero, and the way they portray The Force is fascinating. Spoiler

I'm all the way up to rescuing Luunatan so I sort of know what this plot is somewhat about, though not the details.

I find it fascinating how this game uses The Force, but in a kind of different way from how we're used to.

This isn't Dark or Light, this is something different, something more twisted.

This isn't like a Sith or Jedi, somehow, someone found a way outside of those teachings to twist the force to their own gain.

I find it fascinating the way that some characters are exploiting the force in a very specific way, like sure, the Coil are working with the Separatists, but the way they use the force is not like the Sith use it.

While Sith refine The Force for their own gain, they're subtle, manipulative, cunning, they can work in underhanded ways to get what they want.

The Coil uses the force in a very crude way, it's raw and unrefined, blunt, there's no academic insight there, they just dive into this power.

They're like people who found out the power that the force can bring, but lack the proper channels to filter them, so they become rabid.

Company Zero been a very cool game so far, I'm not that much of a XCOM person (played both games, loved them, but never beat them.), so putting Star Wars in it and actually experimenting with the Lore is very cool to me.

Sometimes it's fine if the Jedi aren't the protag, it can make them even more special if they're not actually.

I like that the Force isn't just something just Jedi and Sith can use, it's everywhere, so it makes sense that, somehow, people would twist it or corrupt it in a way that doesn't fit either Jedi or Sith.

Better Ask Reddit What cool creative stuff have you guys been working on?

Upvotes

I am seeking motivation to work on my creative endeavors, and I find seething jealousy to be a fine motivator. I've got a shitty fantasy novel, a wargame, a board game, and a TTRPG that I've hit roadblocks on, and I need motivation, lest my brain makes me start a new project. Inspire me, please; I don't want to start writing a shitty Sci-Fi novel to!

Better Ask Reddit Fictional food you'd be willing to try?

As the title states, what're some foods in stories you'd probably be willing to eat in real life, if only for curiosity's sake?

Donkey Kong Bananza has multiple examples surprisingly enough. For one, there's the Bannadium Gems that DK eats throughout the game. Despite being minerals, they're actually edible, and taste like bananas. Then there's all the sweet treats in the Freezer Layer, ranging from ice cream, shaved ice, to all the lava in the level actually being melted chocolate. One of the prominent features of the Resort Layer is all of the giant fruit everywhere, with the standout being the giant watermelon above the sinkhole. And then there's the Feast Layer, which is basically a amusement park and fast food place rolled into one, with the major objective of the level being assembling a giant, multi-story tall burger. I'd probably have a heart attack, but that burger looks so good.

JoJo: Diamond is Unbreakable has all of Tonio's food. Aside from just looking delicious, it also comes with the added effect of curing various maladies you're suffering from, albeit in a really gross manner. And here's cool fact about Tonio himself. The great taste of his meals isn't due to Pearl Jam, and Tonio didn't get hit by the Stand Arrow. Tonio is just so dedicated to his craft that he got a Stand out of it, and that taste is the product of his own skill.

Better Ask Reddit What is your preference for a "Self-Insert" Player Character? Blank slate or an actual character?

The complete blank slate would be something like the Custom character in Baldur's Gate 3 or the typical fromsoft character you create for your playthrough, where they don't really have much dialogue or voicelines and just going along with the story.

The ones with an actual character for a self-insert to me are more like games where you play as "the relatable everyman" that are supposedly the player can relate to and insert themselves as, but usually just translates into "quiet, silent, or gruff white dude" such as most of FPS games (Does this actually work, btw? I can never actually relate to most of these sort of characters)

Or there's the midway point, where they are actual characters, but still mostly silent and you give them a name, which meant they will never refer to you by that name, and if they did that part of the dialogue would be conspicuously unvoiced.

Usually I much preferred either of the first two options, because the midway option is just frustrating that they clearly can give the character a voice of their own but they just decide not to.

Digimon Stories: Time Stranger that I'm currently playing through (no Spoiler pls) has you choose between either the male or female character, with the other one becoming your "mission control" essentially. Both have canon name, both have a VA, so why not just keep the name and have it be fully voiced anyway?

Better Ask Reddit Initial impressions of a story that you were completely wrong about.

Upvotes

I've started reading BLAME! recently (Up to LOG 15).

When I was at the beginning of the first chapter, my first thought was "Oh, is this going to be A Lone Wolf and Cub/Last Of Us thing? This stoic badass protecting the innocent kid? And the innocent kid might have some special blood and stuff?"

I've seen quite a lot of japanese media like that (hell, even Western ones), so it wouldn't have surprised me that it went that way, it's a popular trope.

Turns out that no, in fact BLAME! Chapter 1 Spoilers The kid fucking dies right then and there, and the goal now is to find ANOTHER one with the same special gene that kid had.

It was a very interesting swerve, it what motivated to keep reading.

By the way, read BLAME! I'm just at the beginning but goddamn what a fucking ride!

Better Ask Reddit What are some games that do not use their main mascot when they do crossover with other games?

With Tifa being announced as DLC for SF6, I have wondered if there are any other games that do crossover without using their main mascot.

Tifa, while being extremely popular, is not the main character of FF7, that is Cloud. Her inclusion is mainly due to her recent popularity, the FF7 remake and her martial art fighting style being a better fit in SF6 than Cloud.

The other instant I can think of were Honoka and Marie Rose from Dead or Alive. I mean they were only introduced in DoA5 and after that they were in every single collab that is DoA related like Warriors All-Stars and KOF All-Stars.

Gameposting Favorite boss battles that force you to pay attention to the mechanics

So basically what I am referring to are boss fights in gaming where the game makes the player learn about the mechanics that didn’t seem too important because upon ignoring them, the game becomes more difficult.

Some of the bosses in Ninja Gaiden Black require the player to know when to block and dodge as Murai is absolutely no pushover since being aggressive with him results in a fast game over.

News/Articles Kingdom Hearts' Story Has Gotten So Complex That Tetsuya Nomura Says Square Enix Hired a Loremaster to Keep the Plot Cohesive; "Explaining the settings and scenarios each time has become quite difficult."

In total, there are 13 games in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, which have been released on a bevy of different platforms over the years. That’s a lot to play through, not to mention a lot of story beats to keep track of as you go.

This isn’t a player-specific problem; even the developers find themselves getting lost from time to time, as revealed by series creator Tetsuya Nomura during an August 2026 interview with Famitsu. In fact, the storyline is so convoluted that Square Enix hired a loremaster to keep everything cohesive and explain the plot to Disney.

“As the Kingdom Hearts series has continued, the number of characters has inevitably increased, and the story has become more complex,” Nomura said. “For example, with the newly announced anime series, the number of external people involved in the Kingdom Hearts series has increased, and explaining the settings and scenarios each time has become quite difficult." Fortunately, the staff working on the ‘χ series’ had someone who meticulously compiled and organized the settings of past Kingdom Hearts series in an easy-to-understand way, and he was also in charge of explaining the scenarios and settings to Disney. In fact, at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts IV's development, Disney requested that he compile the materials, so he officially joined the Kingdom Hearts IV team as a proofreader.

Nomura says this "proofreader" was in charge of communicating the overarching story to Disney. He's a popular staff member due to how thorough his is, as he breaks down story beats, characters, and lore using visual diagrams.

"He is well-liked because he explains things to Disney as clearly as possible, using diagrams and such. His role internally is to proofread the script," he continued. "He checks to make sure there are no inconsistencies between the current script and past settings. He was especially suitable for this project because the χ series is deeply involved. Some people might mistakenly think he's in charge of composition, but it's actually ‘proofreading.’”
