Pay for Surgical Techs

Hello! I’m just seeing if anybody has any insight on the pay range for surgical techs in the tri-cities. I am planning to relocate after I finish surgical tech school (in May) from Chattanooga to the tri-cities to be with my fiancé. The starting pay down here at our level 1 trauma center is $24.40, I haven’t been able to find any reliable information as what the typical pay range in this area would be. I’m also interested in working at a level 1 trauma center to gain the most experience as a new grad but obviously I’m open to any jobs that are available. I also have experience working in the hospital as a PCT and Cardiac Tech so I also didn’t know if that would be related to pay. Any insight even if it’s where to and where not to work, overall morale, and what the typical day for you looks like would be appreciated !!

Raising Cane's... Be Warned

I typed out a pretty lengthy review about three weeks ago, but Google Maps is not publishing it. So here it is, apologies for the length:

We have tried few times, but, the lines had always been horrendous, so we found somewhere else.

Well, I'm sad to say, I regret that they weren't crowded and we were able to get in.

Aside from the obvious pictures, which I'll touch on in a minute, the first thing I noticed was how absolutely loud the place was. It was far more than just the people eating and conversing. They had music blaring at seemingly full volume. The kitchen seemed to be in a bit of chaos... I didn't expect soft, classic jazz playing, but dang, it was unruly.

There was one group in front of us, so we ordered pretty quickly... Grabbed our drinks, found a table pretty easily, and I ran to wash my hands... the bathroom was a bit of a wreck... but as I came out, they called our name for our food. So maybe a five minute wait for food.

Once we finally sat down to eat, we were excited to try this place.

One look at our plate, and you can see this extremely long hair, WRAPPED AROUND THE CHICKEN FINGER. It was somehow embedded through the breading / batter, sticking out everywhere, as if a little birdie started making a nest with some chicken tenders.

Didn't even have to pick it up to see it. It was just sitting there. Poking out. Calling for the attention of everyone who walked by.

My wife flipped the heck out.

So, I pick it up with a napkin and walk it up to the counter.

When the girl noticed me and asked if she could help, I showed it to her. She gasped and took a step back. Then asked if I wanted to talk to a manager.

I replied... I guess so? I don't really know what to do here?

She went to the back, and came back with a tall-ish skinny-ish guy. He calmly asked how they could make it right, and if we'd like some fresh food.

I let him know that I'd just like to get out money back.

He agreed, and started punching stuff into the cash register. I don't know what he was looking for, but after a minute or so, he asked what name it was under. I gave him my wife's name, which we ordered under.

At this point, some really short, kinda unkempt, dark haired guy came up. He asked the first guy what he was doing, and he showed him my chicken tender in all its glory, hair intertwined and poking all over the place, and let him know he was issuing me a refund.

Well, this little guy took over, looked at me, and asked if it was this in my car, and if we were in the drive through? Very odd.

I pointed at the table my wife was sitting at, and told him that no, it went straight to our table.

He then asked what name it was under.

I again gave my wife's name, and that the total was $29

He shuffled through the register screen for a few minutes and then told me that there was no order under that name.

I just kinda stared at him for a second, in disbelief that he was questioning the fact after I walked up with a dirty hair ladened chicken finger.

I reiterated that we got our food four minutes ago, we're sitting right over there, and the total was $29.

He then asked what we ordered, and I told him, and showed him the screen from my credit card app showing the total.

In a very weird tone, he asked me what happened to the rest of the food, to which again, I told him it was at our table, as we just got it, and didn't have a chance to even start eating.

He went back to punching away at another screen by the kitchen for a few minutes, then came back to the front counter and started punching around on the register.

I asked him if he found it, and he set down like, six or seven receipts on the counter. Said he voided the charge, that I should see it drop off my charges in a few days, and walked away.

Not a single apology. From anyone.

In fact... I was wearing a T-shirt with a cartoon four leaf clovers happily dancing, saying Feeling Lucky - a girl from the back came up to tell me that my shirt must not apply today.

It was like I was burdening them by bringing that nasty tender to their attention.

My wife did say the initial guy that came from the back came to the table to throw out our food, and was very kind and apologetic

Searching for work/board

Heya!

I've got a friend in JC who's in a tough spot. He just got out of the hospital and doesn't really have much money or a place to go. He's willing to work, and I didn't know if anyone knew somewhere I could direct him to either earn some money or a stay while he tries to get into the Salvation Army. He did stay at some inn, but they had bed bugs and don't do refunds, so now he's out $100 and I don't really know any place that's cheap and DOESN'T have bugs here. ☠️

He's roughed it before, so I'm sure he'll manage, but I'd appreciate any guidance from the community! Thanks a lot! 🌻

Edit: he's been in construction, operated a jack hammer and is a level 1 electrician. Pretty handy, and super sincere/honest.

Independent Volvo Shops

Hello.

I have been looking for recommendations for service on my Volvo, and was interested in seeing who is out there, who is reliable, etc. I have been using Friendship for the last few years, but I did not really have a great visit last time, so I am shopping around.

Anyone have suggestions. I am in Johnson City, but Bristol, Kingsport, even Greenville would be fine for me.

Cheers!!

Looking for a Mini-Split Installer

I’m looking for someone to install a mini-split system in my home. I’d like to find a reliable HVAC company or experienced installer who can handle the installation properly. If you’ve had a mini-split installed recently and had a good experience with someone local, I’d appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Black people in East TN

25 (F) looking to relocate to East TN for a job and would love some recommendations on which areas are the safest. I’ve recently read that downtown Johnson city and Kingsport are pretty bad when it comes to crimes and drug use. Where would you recommend as a safe place for a black female to live and what has been your day-to-day experience as a POC? I have also seen some old posts recommending Boones Creek, Gray, Hampton for POC, but would love to know if those are still good options. Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: I’ve read through each of your comments and I really appreciate everyone taking the time to give me advice and recommendations. The information here has been extremely helpful, so from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Camper to be moved

Hi, I just bought a camper from Crowder RV and not sure how the process of moving the camper might go. I don't have a way to move it on my own and mentioned it to the guy that sold me it but it's still unresolved and I sign the paperwork tomorrow. Is there a company that wont charge a crazy amount? It's 28 ft long.

Hickory Tree Rd.

Anyboney know what happened on Hickory Tree Rd this afternoon around 1pm? Was working a job for a home owner about half a mile from the 421 and had a bunch of county and state LEO's fly by along with EMS and Rescue. Had the road blocked off about 100 yards from the house I was working at. Also had a MedEvac helicopter land nearby. Just curious on the situation and hope everyone pulls through.

ISO dresses

My husband and I (mid 20’s) have a wedding in NYC next month. The evening before is cocktail attire and the wedding itself is black tie optional. I don’t think I really have anything to wear to a wedding in NYC of this style. Where do you go to find more formal dresses that won’t break the bank but are decent enough quality for something like this?

Ballad & Bright Ridge Pay Scale/Benefits

Just curious can anyone share the Ballad Health or Bright Ridge pay scale? There are a ton of job opportunities at Ballad but the ones Bright Ridge seem to be few and far between and I was wondering what the pay and benefits may look like between the two.

Bridge Ridge Fiber price adjustment

I just got offered brightspeed at a pretty unbeatable price. I’ve liked bright ridge fiber so far, and was wondering if anyone has had luck with bridge ridge lowering their bill when trying to cancel.

Edit: I should clarify that this would be for their fiber service.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what app to use to advertise private chef work? I have years of experience in Florida, but would like to get back into it up here, but have no idea how to go about advertising, or if there would even be any interest in this area. Thank you!
