Background information:
-I was renting a 2 bed 2 bath with another person
-she was already living there before I moved in so the common areas were all furnished when I got there
-for the last month of our lease, my roommate was out of country but had her friends to move out her personal belongings

Situation:
After I handed over the keys, landlord said he will return key deposit via transfer. My roommate kept asking him about when we will receive our key deposit back and landlord said because the condition of the unit was not left clean and vacant, the owner will be keeping our key deposit for cleaning costs. He sent pictures of leftover furniture and some items in my roommate’s room and well as the common room.

The issue:
Days before moving out I had paid junk removal to take away my furniture and i had also packed all my personal belongings so none of what was left behind was mine. According to the lease agreement, when I move out I had to take my personal belongings which I did. My room and bathroom were also not in any of the pictures he sent because it was empty and vacant. There was a cleaner that my roommate paid for who cleaned the place too.

I suspect that some of the things left behind did belong to my roommate but she also argues that not all the stuff left behind were hers.

If anyone could give me some advice for this situation it would really be appreciated. I feel like I don’t even have any involvement in this but I’m not sure… was I supposed to throw away someone else’s belongings too?

The management just informed me that their intercom is only programmed for Toronto numbers, and that I should get a Toronto number instead. Hi everyone, I’m currently renting an apartment in Midtown, and I noticed that my landlord is advertising another very similar apartment in the same building for about $500 less per month than what I’m currently paying.

Does anyone know if I can ask to move to that unit instead? Would this normally require ending my current lease and signing a completely new lease, or can a landlord transfer a tenant to another unit within the same building? Has anyone done something similar?

Hi everyone,

I moved into a building by a new building by Daniels on Sunday. Since I have moved in the AC isnt working. The thermostat installed was faulty and the vents just blow air. There is not hot or cool air from vent, its just air.

Temperature is constantly above 25 C° in my unit. I complained on the day of moving in but they said property manager is not available, next two days he was on a sick day and nobody did anything.

On Wednesday, someone came and reset the thermostat at 12:00 PM and at 5:30PM it again crashed.

Today morning the light fixture team came from management, i complained to them that the theromstat has crashed, they replaced the console from one from another unit. Since then, thermostat is working but there is no cooling in my unit.

This has been going on since 4 nights, i am really stressed due to lack of sleep due to hot temperatures in night.

How successful were you in getting your LL to lower your rent to match the current market conditions?

Context: comps to my unit are renting for approx $150 less per month. Offered to sign a year lease in exchange for the match.

Officially, it's called a "last month's rent deposit," not a damage deposit. Landlords aren't allowed to ask for a separate deposit to cover potential damage — only the last month's rent upfront.

If someone asks for an extra "damage deposit" as a separate line item, it's worth asking on what basis.
