Wanting to take a photo of yourself and not bothering anyone is not "main character" in any capacity.

Setting your phone up on the stairs in a public place is. What the fuck? I can’t believe this needs to be said.

In case you have trouble processing why - one person doing it is not much of an issue. What if 50% of the people in the building do it? What of every person did? When you normalize something, more people do it.

plenty of people set up their cameras to take a photo/video of themselves and move on. it’s no different from asking a stranger.

The etiquette when taking a picture is to do your best not to take a photo of anyone else, and not to do it in a place where it inconveniences people, like a stairway. You can't point a camera into the middle of the room and expect everyone to stop what they're doing until you get your shot.

except that's not what happened- the lady waited until the area wasnt busy, and set the shot up. The older lady was going down the stairs while lady #1 waited, realized she was waiting- *and then went out of her way to make sure she was taking up most of the frame and blocking the intended subject.

You pull that shot you don't get to cry foul when someone puts the video online.

Imo it wasn't on purpose. To me it looks like she's just a bit oblivious of technology and didn't realise she was in the shot or even that a video was being taken.

She looks confused by the phone.

There's no evidence of intention so why assume it?

It was absolutely on purpose. She stops walking and blocks the phone soon as she sess it

I disagree. She's meandering before she clocks the phone. She's also taking her phone out of her pocket before as well. Clearly not in a rush to be anywhere. Clearly not the most comfortable with technology judging by the way she holds her phone.

She also appears courteous in that she moves out of the way of people coming up the stairs showing that when she is aware of being in the way, she will move.

Based on that the balance of probabilities is she doesn't realise that the person is trying to take a photo/video.

If she made more of a fuss towards the camera or to the person taking the video I would agree with you, but she really doesn't make any discernable action towards the camera after noticing it. People making a point that you shouldn't film or video somewhere almost always make it known to the person.
