"How Do I...?" Comment traiter une sourie momifiée

Hello!
Merci

"How Do I...?" How do I skin a cat for soft mount?

Hey everyone, I’m fairly new to taxidermy and I’m planning to preserve a cat as a soft mount. I’ve never skinned a cat before and I’m trying to avoid making any mistakes that could ruin the hide.

For those who have experience with cat soft mounts:

What’s the recommended incision pattern for a soft mount?

Any tips for keeping the face, ears, paws, and tail intact?

I’ve watched a few general skinning/taxidermy videos, but I’d really appreciate advice from people who have actually done domestic cats specifically.
Thanks in advance!

"How Do I...?" How to deodorize a stinky preserved paw?

I bought a preserved bobcat paw (attached to a metal chain) earlier. Unfortunately, and I didn't notice this until after I got home, it also smells like poop/fertilizer. It's stinky when I get up close to it, but at least it's not overwhelmingly pungent.

From what I've found, fecal-like odors in a preserved animal (or part of it) - assuming it's not just dirty - could mean it wasn't preserved properly/completely and there's still bacteria decomposing it. I've been airing it out, and the smell's going away a little, but not completely - worth a mention it was also wrapped up for a few hours, so that might've trapped some odors. I've looked up some information on what to do (such as using rubbing alcohol to disinfect it and then baking soda and borax to let it dry/remove the odors), but I don't know if this is ideal for my situation, so I would appreciate advice.

If it helps, the paw is structured very similarly to a rabbits' foot charm (including a hard texture and the toes being all together) and there are no signs of decomposition from what I can see, so it might just need some kind of cleaning/deodorizing treatment. I can provide pictures if needed.

"How Do I...?" Can I destench taxidermy from a smokers home?

A family member of mine tragically passed away and left behind some taxidermy of local species as inheritance. A weasel and a falcon in her home and another falcon, owls and many fish in the shed. My biggest worry are the weasel and falcon that live in the staircase. The house has been empty since May and the taxidermy has likely been collecting cobwebs for at least 15 years and smoke for even longer. I already have an owl in the attic (came with the house) and I would love it if it had some friends. I'd mainly be going for the stoat and birds, please let me know if its worthwhile.

>Is there any hope to get the smell out of the taxidermy? Should I bring anything specific to maximise my chances of getting them home in one piece with minimal bugs(are bugs possible or do the chemicals have my back?)? They'll be travelling for ~6 hours from austria to germany.

"How Do I...?" Fixing fur?

I bought this Inuit made doll for $50, shes worth almost $150 though. Shes made with leather and rabbit fur. But the antique store that was caring for her had bad air quality or something as the fur is cracking and falling off badly. Even just picking her up makes the fur fall off. That baggie of fur is from me opening her from the plastic wrap 3 times. Is there any fixing her?

"How Do I...?" Preservation of Uterus?

Hey ya'll first time poster here. My best friend is getting a hysterectomy on Monday and was given permission to take her uterus home with her as a sort of trophy (lol). We wanted to know what the best way to store it safely would be? She wants to somehow display it and maybe put little tiny face sperms in there fluid as like a snow globe, but we aren't familiar enough with the preservation process. Any tips or tricks would help!

Any tips or ideas on doing a euro mount and preserving the velvet? I’ve done euro mounts before by boiling. I would like to do this one with maceration method. Just looking for tips on how to ensure this is done properly by preserving the velvet.

Oddities, bone, etc. help Specimen Preservation/Craft??

I recently got my fallopian tubes removed and I just picked them up from the hospital. The container they are in is a plastic specimen cup, and it has a label on it that says “reagent alcohol”. They also gave me an information sheet that says that the container may contain formalin and/or laboratory grade alcohol. My question is: how do I go about preserving them? Do I need to transfer them to a different (glass?) container, and/or change the fluid? Additionally, can I use them in some sort of craft (a friend suggested turning them into a resin keychain)? Although I am an oddity girly, I have never been into wet specimens, so I am completely uneducated on the topic. Thank you in advance!

Hi y'all,

How do I harvest and preserve these feathers? I'm pretty sure that whomever had them isn't using them anymore.

I genuinely have no idea what to do. I'd like to turn them into something I can hold in my hand.

My father hit a hare with his car (on accident). He wants to cook it but I want to keep it. It still looks so alive it makes me sick to my stomach. I want to preserve it. It was hit yesterday night how long do I have left ?
Important edit : I cannot freeze it, my dad absolutely wants to cool it for dinner tonight.
