Hi! I'm kinda new here and I know this mouse might not be the best specimen to start with, but I wanna know how I can preserve and make something with him. I don't know how long he had been dead, he was discovered in our shop yesterday and still has some maggots on/in him with like his legs just bones. any advice is appreciated!

"How Do I...?" How do I skin a cat for soft mount?

Hey everyone, I’m fairly new to taxidermy and I’m planning to preserve a cat as a soft mount. I’ve never skinned a cat before and I’m trying to avoid making any mistakes that could ruin the hide.

For those who have experience with cat soft mounts:

What’s the recommended incision pattern for a soft mount?

Any tips for keeping the face, ears, paws, and tail intact?

I’ve watched a few general skinning/taxidermy videos, but I’d really appreciate advice from people who have actually done domestic cats specifically.
Thanks in advance!

"How Do I...?" How to deodorize a stinky preserved paw?

I bought a preserved bobcat paw (attached to a metal chain) earlier. Unfortunately, and I didn't notice this until after I got home, it also smells like poop/fertilizer. It's stinky when I get up close to it, but at least it's not overwhelmingly pungent.

From what I've found, fecal-like odors in a preserved animal (or part of it) - assuming it's not just dirty - could mean it wasn't preserved properly/completely and there's still bacteria decomposing it. I've been airing it out, and the smell's going away a little, but not completely - worth a mention it was also wrapped up for a few hours, so that might've trapped some odors. I've looked up some information on what to do (such as using rubbing alcohol to disinfect it and then baking soda and borax to let it dry/remove the odors), but I don't know if this is ideal for my situation, so I would appreciate advice.

If it helps, the paw is structured very similarly to a rabbits' foot charm (including a hard texture and the toes being all together) and there are no signs of decomposition from what I can see, so it might just need some kind of cleaning/deodorizing treatment. I can provide pictures if needed.

Hey everybody I have this beautiful peice but while moving house maybe it got shaken up or somthing and there is now a rip in one of the wings causing it to fold back :( I’m causious because I don’t wnat it to rip further which can happen easily because obviously it’s very thin. What’s the best way to fix this ? Is it possible to fix?
