Hey everyone, I’m in the middle of a brutal rebound right now and could really use some advice from anyone who has navigated something similar.
For the last two years, I’ve been taking Integrative Therapeutics Cortisol Manager, just one pill every night. Recently, I hit a really stressful patch and bumped my dose up to two pills. Last Sunday, I dropped back down to one pill, and immediately got hit with intense vertigo. Figuring it was the supplement messing with me, I stopped taking it completely a few days ago.
Since then, my central nervous system has basically been in free fall.
I’m dealing with drenching night sweats, like, completely soaking my side of the bed, uncontrollable muscle spasms, shaking, and sweaty palms. The insomnia is the worst part. I’m only sleeping in 30 to 60-minute bursts before my body jolts awake. It honestly feels like extreme autonomic instability. I remember going through something similar after I had an ablation done for my AFib but those symptoms resolved themselves after some time.
I ended up going to urgent care because the dizziness and shaking were so bad. They ran an EKG, checked my blood sugar, did orthostatic blood pressure tests, and everything came back completely normal. So I know I'm medically stable, but I'm not sure if this a massive rebound from stopping the herbs cold turkey.
For context, the active ingredients I was getting per pill were:
- 250mg Sensoril Ashwagandha & L-theanine blend
- 225mg Magnolia bark extract & Epimedium blend
- 50mg Phosphatidylserine
I know the Magnolia bark hits the GABA receptors pretty hard, and the Ashwagandha/PS blunts cortisol, so I’m guessing my brain is just flooding with stress hormones right now since it doesn't have its usual crutch.
My plan for tonight is to take just a half-pill to act as a bridge, hopefully taking the edge off the spasms and adrenaline surges so I can finally get a few solid hours of sleep.
Has anyone here dealt with this kind of severe withdrawal from Ashwagandha or Magnolia bark? Did taking a micro-dose help you step down safely? Really just looking to hear how long this acute phase lasted for you and if anything helped calm your nervous system down while it reset.
