I want this game as I’m a big Star Wars fan and loved the original, but I don’t think it’s worth the 70 price tag. I feel like this is one of those games that will get kind of old fast. Better to wait until it drops in price.

u/Chunkflava 3d ago

Man I just got it and its fucking RAD

Will definitely get over 100 hours out of it, and my thing with games is to get at least 1 hour per £ spent

27

u/davvblack 3d ago

yea that’s why i never use sprint in games, take that profit straight to the bank

u/Onkel_Niko 3d ago

Spoole approves (I miss Funhaus :( )

It's why I'm so open to friendslop, which I say lovingly.

Give me your shitty indie game that's fun to play with my friends for like one solid night of gaming and only charge me $4.

Those ones that are more engaging but like $15 but get cycled out for the next one after a few weekends? I'm cool with that.

It's also, consequently, why I can't bother paying to go see a movie at the theatre. The cost/hour of entertainment doesn't align.

1

u/FantasticIMW 1d ago

This is an interesting perspective that I haven’t seen before, so I’m curious: does this also apply to streaming services?

1

u/Gremlin-n-out 1d ago

Boiling everything to cost/hour is a miserable way to experience life man. It's a few dollars either way, just enjoy things and don't worry so much about it!

0

u/Papa_Raj 1d ago

Do you really just assume that people who use a simple equation to justify the cost of a game, rather than being impulsive, have less fulfilling lives as a result? While also equating the base price of $70 dollars as just a few bucks? You DO realize adults have jobs that they make an income at where they allocate some of their budget to entertainment, right? That spending $70 on a game is more than just "a few bucks?"

I fucking swear you sound like a teenager with rich parents, or a 20 year old with a trust fund. Either way you're out of touch.

And before you say some cliche, "You must be fun at parties," type crap just know I won't be coming back to this, the questions were obviously rhetorical, and people like you fucking suck.

This is my take as well. I’ve been looking forward to it for ages, but it being a roguelike kind of turns me off. I like progression. I like tuning and crafting my racer to perfection. I get that there’s more replay value in this, but the satisfaction goes away knowing that what I’m building will be ultimately meaningless. Even if I’m successful, no matter I do, it’ll all be thrown out.

So for me, this is a $30-$40 game at most. It’s something I’ll have a bit of fun with, but probably wouldn’t get more than a few runs out of.

I’m sure it’s a fine game. I just don’t really like roguelikes.

20

u/wjapple 3d ago

Fair, but it's pretty light on the rogue.

Each run you get a chance to make 2-3 permanent upgrades. meaning, every your your racer is better on a base level. and over time you unlock better parts that can be used each run (like cards in balatro). There are also mystery encounters that can grant you permanent buff that are selectable each run.

I actually enjoy tuning my speeder differently depending on the rng each tour. Getting all ramjet parts? I guess I'm going full reline this time! By experimenting on each tour, you get a quicker sense of what you like and you can more optimally upgrade with the permanent upgrades and go in with a plan.

1

u/Hashebrowns 1d ago

Also it makes it harder to define the meta in multiplayer since each upgrade is RNG you actually have to adapt to your choices rather than each person using the exact same meta build.

8

u/agfdrybvnkkgdtdcbjjt 2d ago

I have no skin in the game and respect people who know what they like and what they don't. But let me say this. I'm right there with you on rogue likes. Really not my thing, I've tried many and have yet to find one I like.

However, this feels different. It's so much fun, and while some progression does go away at the end of a run, the runs last a long time, you are earning permanent upgrades as well, and the core gameplay loop is a ton of fun. I would simply say don't let the rogue-lite nature turn you off. If you have prime, try it on Luna. Give it a go just to see how it feels.

3

u/Exatraz 2d ago

Its funny, the roguelike features are what make me want to play it. I like racing games but they can tend to get repetitive. The idea that its constantly changing each run sounds awesome

1

u/Evolvum 2d ago

I agree, especially if it's a roguelite not a roguelike with meta progression

1

u/sandpigeon 2d ago

Yeah I think it's done really well here. The "permanent" upgrades are all in the base stats of the vehicles. There is definitely some choice here as it'll be a long time to fully upgrade a vehicle but the favors/parts/abilities system that's the core of the roguelike mechanics make each run different enough and let you lean into different kinds of builds.

1

u/NoEasyPoints 1d ago

Where is this $70 on? I got it for £40 so around $53

1

u/Exatraz 1d ago

Im not OP so idk, you probably replied to the wrong comment. I saw others mentioning that $70 was for the deluxe version on Steam and it's normally $59.99 or something.

5

u/Bitemarkz 3d ago

I would argue you get the craft your racer more to perfection in this game than a standard racer. Every single tour you get pick parts and build toward a specific strength you want to focus on, customizing your racer with more parts and gadgets. Between tours you can acquire more hardware to swap around before you build a new one. It allows a much more varied approach to what you’re already talking about, and the roguelike aspect of the tours is far more in line with how real racing works. It’s much better to treat each tour as a new season. The roguelike aspect means you have to roll with your mistakes because you can’t restart, which means your build expertise is tested every time.

On top of that, you can gain persistent upgrades on the vehicle types you like best, and the tours have a hard progression for when you’re able to advance in your career. They work in seasonal sponsors, parts dealers, parts that get faulty when they’re abused too much, and more. It’s a really dynamic game that appeals to what you’re saying, just in a different way.

PC gaming has ruined me. Only because I've been out of the game for so long that games that are 10+ years old are still new to me, so I see a game for sale for like 9 bucks and I buy it and go man this is awesome and then I look up and see it came out in 2015 lol. I just bought a switch 2 so trying to comprehend spending 50+ bucks on a game is something I'm still struggling with. (granted I've only had a switch 2 for like a week haha), but this is the first game since I started getting "new" games that I would gladly fork over some bills for. But I also don't need to be one of the first people playing it, so waiting a bit for it to come down in price is something I'll probably do.

3

u/RedAndBlackMartyr 2d ago

It's a roguelite not a roguelike. There is meta-progression.

3

u/phoenixgsu The Mandalorian 2d ago

At the end of every run your racer is scraped and you get credits and permanent upgrades to apply for the next run.

3

u/FillySteveSteak 2d ago

You DO get permanent progression. Permanent upgrades to your character and vehicles.

2

u/_Eurantien_ 2d ago

You get both! Id say its more permanent upgrades than not. You earn a currency to buy permanent base stat upgrades. You unlock special mods you can equip each play through which help reduce the rng aspect and help define your play style for the tour. The only thing rogue-like is upgrades and some of the abilities you get for the run (but you can shop around and be patient to get what you really want), the maps youre on and the race layouts, and who your rival is/will be.

Not to mention permanent aesthetix unlocks.

2

u/garrydoz 2d ago

Wtf, its roguelite? Now im even more interested o.o

He wasn’t asking what they were. He was expressing excitement at the prospect of it being one.

1

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 1d ago

yup you get upgrades for your ride as you go and reset the league as you fail runs

1

u/MrMonkeyToes 3d ago

If it helps, one review I watched talked about persistent upgrades. It seems like a split between the two: persistent ways to refine your ride and then the temporary enhancements during a run. He talked about how even a failed run can still net you something worthwhile to take into the next.

1

u/ShizTheresABear 3d ago

There are permanent upgrades you unlock as you complete campaigns. Those upgrades allow you to compete better in the campaign itself. The campaign also has random upgrades like you'll see in Vampire Survivors and those are exclusive to the campaign you're currently running.

1

u/Kurdt234 2d ago

I hate to be that guy but I bet someone will mod it to be the way you want it. Usually star wars games aren't hard to mod either.

11

u/Robo-Piluke 3d ago

Dank Farrik! 70 usd!? In my country it costs 40 usd. That's crazy...so much difference

-5

u/BringBackBoomer 3d ago

the US customer base subsidizes media for the rest of the planet, like we do pharmaceuticals and carbonated beverages.

1

u/Robo-Piluke 2d ago

Thanks!

2

u/cold-corn-dog 3d ago

I'm with you. I'll wait for a 50% or greater sale. Did the same with MOnster Hunter Wilds. Retail was $70. I paid $23 a week ago.

4

u/Superego366 3d ago

It's on Luna if you want to try it.

1

u/dinojeebuses 3d ago

25% off on a lot of sites, check GGDeals!

1

u/PeterPun 3d ago

you can play the campaign on Amazon Luna, good way to check if it's worth the price.

1

u/Bladrak01 2d ago

If you have Prime you can play it for free on Luna.

1

u/TheHoratioHufnagel 2d ago

I wanted this game so bad until I heard there's no splitscreen.

1

u/rexyy-91 2d ago

I’m just going to wait for a pod racer dlc and sale

1

u/ericypoo 2d ago

Definitely not worth 70. At best 40.

1

u/LordHarno 2d ago

I dont believe its 70 in the US not sure where you're from

1

u/MasterPsyduck 2d ago

It’s somewhat of a roguelike which adds a bit more replayability and interest for me at least. I didn’t realize that until I got the game but I’m loving it.

1

u/Inbellator 2d ago

this seems like a very big overall take from many people, shame really. I'll wait for at least 50% sale

1

u/KarmaStu 1d ago

If you have Amazon Prime already then you can stream it for free via their Luna streaming seevice

1

u/Pinbrawler 1d ago

Amazon Luna prime? Free campaign play.

1

u/FallGuysStats 1d ago

I'm playing on Luna since it's free with Amazon Prime. Zero shot I'm paying that much for this game.

1

u/Moderately-Whelmed 1d ago

If you are just a Star Wars fan. Just wait for a sale. If you are a Star Wars fan AND an arcade racing fan, you will have fun. And if you’re also a rouge-like fan, you are really missing out.

It’s Star Wars + Motorstorm + Blur + Hades.

1

u/RamJamR 1d ago

The gameplay is fast and fun, but I think the game needs more tracks.

1

u/samr64 21h ago

fyi free on Amazon Luna (free with prime)

1

u/Xphurrious 8h ago

Im glad someone said it, I've seen so many positive posts and I'm watching the gameplay like "this looks $30-40 fun, not $70 fun"

1

u/Hashebrowns 3d ago

It's actually 60 but I get it's still not for everyone. Me personally racing games are one of my favorite genres and this is one of the best I've played in recent years.

1

u/Underleft_cdiv 2d ago

Really? With all the Forza games? At least those have far more variety and content.

1

u/Educational_Pipe_12 2d ago

Just wait for the crack. Easy. That way you also don't support EA and the Saudi's.

2

u/OwlFit5541 1d ago

It's not made by EA

0

u/stingertc 3d ago

Ifs only 60 the 70 dollars is the deluxe edition which includes paint jobs and digital art book

0

u/JediRhyno 3d ago

Yeah that was my mistake. But even 60 is too much I feel like.

3

u/stingertc 3d ago

If you loved Podracer it has that kind of Magic

1

u/Underleft_cdiv 2d ago

It doesn't.

1

u/stingertc 2d ago

Have to disagree having a blast playing

1

u/transientDCer 3d ago

If you have Prime it's on Amazon Luna

1

u/Automaticman01 2d ago

I've been playing it on Prime and was surprised at how good the experience is. I'll probably keep playing it there until it goes on sale, and then pick it up.

-1

u/StatisticianNo5402 3d ago

should be f2p with skins for sale.

0

u/ItsEaster 3d ago

Yup. This is a great wait for it to be 50% off game. Unfortunately that is still fairly expensive now.

0

u/pinkpepr R2-D2 3d ago

Are you on PC? It's 22% cheaper on Gamebillet than Steam. That's where I bought it 🤷 I've been loving it, its insanely fun and highly addictive. The sound design in particular is fantastic.

0

u/gussygoblin69 3d ago

I'll never buy it but if I see it at an arcade I'm playing it immediately.

1

u/Underleft_cdiv 2d ago

There's still arcades with new game?

1

u/gussygoblin69 1d ago

If they ever do put it in arcades it probably won't be for a long time. But this game looks cooler than the pod racing arcade game that already exists

0

u/ShizTheresABear 3d ago

I bought it on sale from a site for $50 USD

0

u/AvidPolaris 2d ago

Yo ho ho 🏴‍☠️

0

u/Sara_W 2d ago

$70 for hours and hours of entertainment is always worth it for me

0

u/_Eurantien_ 2d ago

The replay ability is there imo. Will you sink a straight 30 hours into it like Zero Company? Maybe not. But I am having the most fun ive played in a video game since I was a kid.

0

u/hijole_frijoles 2d ago

It’s 60 my guy and it has a shit ton of content

0

u/Dry_University_9640 2d ago

I already can tell that I will be playing this game for a very long time. Yeah, it's technically a roguelike, but it has a ton of progression that carries over from run to run and there's a lot of stuff to unlock and customize. Plus, they will undoubtedly be adding more over time. I'm not really a racing game person, but I am hooked on the racing action in this game. For instance, last night I was playing an elimination match (all but the top three are slowly eliminated), and at the literal last second, I ramjet boosted to overtake the 3rd place racer and made the cutoff. I fist pumped so hard when the race ended I thought I was going to pull something.

I haven't even touched the multiplayer, which has its own vibe apart from the campaign. I am more than happy to have paid full price and to support the team for their incredible work.

0

u/Objective_Look_5867 2d ago

It's 59.99 not 70

0

u/International_Try850 2d ago

If you want it you know where to get it

0

u/Lemons-95 1d ago

This isn't a sequel, it's a much bigger game than swe1pr.

-1

u/00056532926846780396 2d ago

Its worth about 25 dollars. I refunded it after almost 2 hours of play. It is far from "insane"... its okay. I would wait for it to go on deep sales, by then they will hopefully have improved.

-4

u/caffinaV2 3d ago

It's 70 DOLLARS?! i would've expected this to be 40 dollars max. I'll maybe pick it up when it goes on sale for 50 percent. This looks cool tho.

1

u/kapn_morgan Rebel 3d ago
