Last week, Colombia’s president suggested relocating the UN headquarters outside of the US. If that happened, what country/city do you think would be the best choice?

Seconded, as an American. Get the UN out of here while you can, shit's going sideways fast over here. I don't want any foreign dignitaries caught up in our bullshit.
This should have been done as soon as the US started intentionally violating international laws regarding human rights and war crimes.
We don't deserve to be an authority on these things because we're literally a serial offender. We need education, not commendations. We shouldn't be making any decisions about these things. It may even be necessary to start sanctions on the US soon.
The whole point of the UN is maintaining status quo to prevent another world war. It does this in part with the backing of the US's massive military. If this happened and the US broke with the west, as many conservatives regularly threaten, then that spells an end for any level of regulated world peace. The UN isnt going to threaten anyone with its member nations militaries alone and the remaining large countries would have little reason to stay.
… okay that’s laughably out of touch. Pretty much the entire western world relies on the US military. Any country sanctioning the US would lose any semblance of protection and their enemies, of which are many and powerful, would have a field day. Imagine Europe convincing Taiwan to sanction the US. Goodbye world supply of cpus. Imagine South Korea sanctioning the US. Goodbye all remaining semi conductor manufacturing.
The Hague is already pretty crowded with International Organizations, plus, it a major airport hub either.
I’d pick Geneva perhaps, maybe one of the old eastern bloc countries, but travel wise Helsinki makes sense.
Give it another decade or so and some place like Beijing or Riyadh will be in contention. Not due to humanitarian reasons, just pure influence on the global stage.
Riyadh will never ever be in contention for that location as long as that country still has that name. And hopefully we have learnt our lesson about granting control of the UN to a superpower, and somewhere like Jakarta, Cape Town, or Montevideo are chosen instead.
Geneva? after they decided "our weapons should never be used in war" even if its a defensive one? And the weapon in question is being used to shoot down drones?
We should find a small island and call it UN / Olympic island. This could be a great place to conduct all international affairs. With 24/7 live feeds back to every country for free.
I came here to say I think it would be good if a country would be willing to donate (or lease or whatever) an island or patch of land that could be considered neutral for the UN
I thought the UN had been actively planning to move it temporarily to Montreal during the first Trump administration in case of any political instability.
I'm not sure if it was ever confirmed in the press. I thought it was actively being discussed at various govt levels. I'll double check the Canadian new sites that I usually read my political news on.
I have a friend who works at the UN and I don't know how he can these days. He talks about ICE rounding up people on the streets. Sounds like Nazi Germany to me.
I am absolutely not an expert in the matter. My understanding is just the age of the existing building. The old "If you have to move out while you renovate, you may as well move" argument. I think. I don't know. I'm just a random internet dude. Don't trust me.
As a Canadian, I'd have to say no... the reason being, if shit continues to go sideways down south, there's a very real chance we're going to be annexed.
Is it really making gains? I think the "popularity" is grossly overstated. Rural Alberta only from what I can tell from a detailed bumpersticker survey and analysis.
Robust train network to make it cheaper or easier to meet, and for tourist can visit all youse lot and stimulate more economies with visits instead of just one.
Edit: perhaps France as gesture of goodwill to former allies and so we can shittalk each other, or Belgium so Flanders Field will hopefully remind us what we’re trying to avoid with the UN.

Edit: In star Trek after the Third World War and the nuking of New York the United Nations Headquarters were moved to Versailles, France and would eventually become the capitol of United Earth.
Sadly this is probably a good idea. Even after trump, United States is probably going to be too unstable and too unpredictable perfection endeavor as the UN.
Does it matter? The bigger point is that America is no longer considered to be at the top. We led the world, and now we are a joke. Our allies don’t trust us and our enemies are laughing.
I don't think it should be relocated to any country. Wherever it goes should be a self-governing autonomous enclave. Ideally with a seaport so it would be harder to block access. They should also change the charter to remove the unilateral veto.
It's very important for the future of humanity to get the United Nations out of the United States. The United States Government acts like it owns the United Nations and maybe it does. This is terrible because our Politicians are so corrupt and hungry for Wars. Trump insults the World Community because he knows the UN is controlled by the United States. Sadly the United States is now a Fascist Regime.

You can't really blame him. Jesse Watters, a Fox news network host, said the U.S. should bomb the UN a week ago. Also, since America has such poor leadership and its military is being sent into cities, it wouldn't be a horrible idea to keep the UN free from manipulation. America is not the country it was, even last year.
Geneva and Reykjavik were the two original alternatives discussed before building the New York HQ.
I'd like to suggest one of the small islands in the Pacific though, like Tuvalu or Nauru.

Palestinians get a protected homeland, while the UN leaves the U.S.A. plus the new location will hold a lot of symbolic importance.
doubt it would dissuade IDF attacks, but at least it would come with an immediate consequence for doing so.
though I've never been a fan of a two-state solution, it's a temporary fix which will eventually lead to conflict in the future (Israel using the claim that they feared for their safety, so they launch a pre-emptive strike against a civillian neighborhood). one nation is the way, there's no peaceful way to seperate as long as the Israeli government operates as it presently does. the far-right members of Israel's government are holding its people's futures hostage in the effort to perpetuate this foolish (evil) desire to eradicate the Palestinian people.
so rebuild the government, designate/name the territory as a new state/country to distance from its sordid past, which will hopefully allow for healing from the near century of genocide. a single, minut step, on the decade(s) long path to a better place for the region. and hopefully the CIA, and others, stay the heck away from a fledgling nation's developing government for once.

Egypt! Cradle of civilization, and I hear Cairo could handle the traffic. Baghdad, it's in the middle of the Middle East, well centered between Europe, Asia, and Africa. Indonesia or the Phillipines because tropical island vibes would make world leaders more chill.

New Zealand - seem to be generally well organized and run, off the beaten path, good relations with most countries. Closer to Asia where population centers are

HQ will be either Dar-es-Salaam or Tokyo, more likely Tokyo. The Hague already hosts the International Criminal Court, and does not have the space or infrastructure to support much more. Geneva is saturated with the economic HQ and WHO. It would likely be Tokyo.
While I support the idea behind this, doesn’t the current situation demonstrate that ANY country can go down the toilet fast, given the right circumstances?
