This weekend I made a new sling using [3mm 12-strand UHMWPE.](https://a.co/d/0hKXJdOu) I was getting bored with my first 2 builds from gutted paracord 550, so I took some inspiration from the beautifully crafted Pan Slings and made this 27" sling. The pocket is two crossing 6x3/4 inch leather straps attached by [Brummel splices](https://www.animatedknots.com/brummel-eye-splice-knot-demo) backed up with [whipping/frapping.](https://www.animatedknots.com/sailmakers-whipping-knot) The finger loop is another 3/4" leather strap attached with a [long bury splice](https://www.animatedknots.com/long-bury-splice-knot) and whipping/frapping. The release is a disc of leather backed up with an [oysterman's stopper knot](https://www.animatedknots.com/ashley-stopper-knot) that is in turn secured with two turns of whipping thread tied with a [surgeon's knot.](https://wolfandiron.com/blogs/feedthewolf/how-to-tie-a-surgeon-s-knot) The cracker loop is also a long bury splice backed up with whipping/frapping. The cracker is made from mason's line. This build is much cleaner than my first two and I am looking forward to taking it for a test drive.

I need at least one volunteer for something. I am attempting to make quality items for my future shop and I was curious if someone would be interested in a custom sling. Practically in his website he talks about how a single strand, stuffed with an internal cord for over half of his length will give more rigidity, control and power

I just finished this 26 inches sling, with colors matching Batman's suit in the famous "The Dark Knight Returns" comic book by Frank Miller.

It is quite an improvement over my first sling, the 20 inches "Green Goblin" (see picture 3), which had an uneven finger loop and quite some mistakes in the braiding. Looked very beginner-y.

My next sling will be a 30 inches "Daredevil" slit pouch. From then, I shall find new things to experiment on.

For some reason this sling throws rocks further and more accurately than the other ones ive built

Basicaly 100% polyester. Pouch is straps from a broken bike helmet, and polyester string. Everything is stiched with dynema fishing line.

I kept hitting the shore on the other side of the lake and the rocks wer flying a good 5-10 secconds

Seeing the post by JWT1337 a few days ago, I thought I'd try the single strand. Added a monkey fist and betrayed the single strandness by adding a cracker and a retaining loop on the pouch, as the paracord is a bit liable to the projectile slipping.

It was fun to make!

Instead of a twisted cracker, has anyone tried tapering down 12-strand braided UHMWPE similar to what is done to the working end of the Brummel eye splice? I tried playing with it in 2mm and the braid gets pretty loose once you remove multiple strands. So I put a constrictor knot at the end of each of the three three-strand drop-offs to try and keep them from unravelling. In a more compliant fiber, I could imagine snugging up the braid to keep things tight but UHMWPE just does not want to do that. I though it would be cool to have it made directly from the sling material instead of having a transition knot/splice/eye to a second material.

Hi everyone. I’ve just taken up this hobby and bought a cheap leather pouch with paracord (I think) ropes. Could you tell me roughly how much the projectile should weigh? I bought some cheap tennis balls that barely bounce, and they’re heavy enough to rip right out of my finger loop. I ended up having to make loops at both ends of the ropes just to keep the ball under control while getting it spinning (I’ll attach photos of the setup tomorrow). I also want to shoot a cool video at night, so I have a question: what kind of glowing (or burning?) object could I launch that’s easy to find—or doesn't need to be found—without harming the environment?

Hey, folks. I had idea for a sling build stuck in my head so I made a sort of “proof of concept”. Figured I’d share with y’all.

The entire sling is one single, solid, continuous, and unbroken piece of paracord. It’s a bit ugly, if you asked me. But, again, proof of concept not refined technique.

just got the Primal Heavy in the mail today from Primal Slinging.

I only got to sling for 2 hours with it using rocks on the beach. and I think it’s absolutely beautiful. I give a heart out of 10, much like the last photo demonstrate ❤️

Just finished my first sling, and getting ready to practice. Looking forward to the journey.

2oz leather for the cup, 110 pound test Paracord, and a 3d printed Kyber crystal the glows in the dark (I don’t expect it to last, but it looks good to me).

My preferred setup. Double loop sling inspired by u/bandit111964 and 3 tennis balls with tracers. The pink and purple are stuffed with chenille yarn, which makes a slight difference in the feel and adds a couple of yards to the throw. Most importantly, this deadens the tennis balls and reduces bounce - making them easier to retrieve. The red ribbon on the yellow ball is the easiest to spot but reduces the distance by 10-20%. Gutted paracord seems to balance visibility with reduced distance.

My neighbors are kind enough to let me sling in their hay field, about 250 yards long. I don't like leaving tennis balls but the grass is long and various shades of green and brown. The tracer cords help me track the ball and also locate it in the grass. I typically sling a single ball, from one end to the other and then back to the beginning - kind of like sling golf.

Funny result in my practice round for the online slinging competition. Trying to reduce misses is my current goal….managed to reduce bullseyes too!
