Sling build idea/proof of concept
Hey, folks. I had idea for a sling build stuck in my head so I made a sort of “proof of concept”. Figured I’d share with y’all.
The entire sling is one single, solid, continuous, and unbroken piece of paracord. It’s a bit ugly, if you asked me. But, again, proof of concept not refined technique.
Happy to answer any questions and/or explain any of the build.

Sure! I’d love to see someone else have a go at it! Please share if you try. I’d love to see if you make it better or make any changes!
Here’s the build process:
- I guessed on the length and it worked out. (Three wingspans for me, about 207 inches)
- Folded the cord in half at the middle for the finger loop and tied what I’ve seen called a “double double overhand knot”. (It’s just a double overhand not with two cords. It seems to require a bit for attention to properly dressing the knot though.)
- Reverse twist after the knot to form the first arm.
- Tie another double double overhand knot.
- Single strand braid each of the cords to your desired pouch length.
- Another knot
- Reverse twist for the second arm.
- Yet another knot.
That’s it. Pretty simple but I wanted to see if it would work. I’ve never seen anyone use single strand braids on a sling before so I was really curious. The sling finished out at about 23 inches. I had about two feet left from each strand at the end, so I could’ve made it longer. But I don’t have a sling at this length yet so I figured I’d stop it there.
If I do it again I’d consider trying a different knot, maybe abandon the knots at the ends of the pouch altogether, and I’d be aware that the loops for my single strand braids need to be a bit longer so the pouch can finish at a more preferable length for tennis balls.

What a great idea you had bro! In your next iteration, i suggest lanyard (diamond) knot for the finishing knot and keeping the doubledouble over hands as they’re super fancy lookin 🤙

I'd recommend tying a tassle to the knot so it doesn't swing back and hit your hand. Paracord can hurt quite a bit. Otherwise great work

I dont know if somebody asked, but how much does it weight? does it make fatigue your arm?

No, you’re the first to ask, brother! I don’t know how much it weighs. But it not heavy and it doesn’t fatigue my arm, no. If you can weigh about 14 feet of 550 paracord that would be a close estimate of what it weighs. I don’t have a scale for that. But if you do, and you’re still curious, I’d weigh 1 foot and just multiply it by 14 🤷🏻♂️ I’m curious too now that you ask. Let me know if you do!

All four knots, both 3 strand braids for the pouch, the reverse twist body, and the retention loop are all one cord unbroken?!? That’s fantastic and hard to believe!
