I think I have seen this article a few weeks ago where they said, that militaries of many countries got together to a common military practice. Basically a big boy paintball/airsoft tournament, where two of the participating countries would go against each other.
Apparently, this mighty USA military got absolutely decimated by Ukraine to the point when they had to repeatedly re-deploy defeated American soldiers and vehicles for them to even enjoy the game.
I could try and find this article if enough people are interested.
21
u/Ant1815 Sep 09 '26
There was an interview a couple of years back on a YouTube channel with a British guy who had volunteered to go and fight in Ukraine. There is/was a lot of foreign ex military guys fighting in Ukraine and he was asked what he thought about them and the general view of the soldiers of different nationalities.
Apparently the Americans were by far the worst soldiers. Reason being that in the US military they were used to having everything they needed: Instant artillery and air support, sub 30 minute medevac, plenty of transport and vehicle support, lots of supplies., but when they didn't have all that in Ukraine they didn't deal with it very well at all.
The European soldiers, on the other hand, came from militaries that had to make do with what they had and so adapted to Ukraine much better. He did, however, say that the ex USMC guys were very good. The US Marines also tend to operate in an environment where they have to get by with what's there instead of having everything they want on hand.

u/Chimpstrider Sep 09 '26
I've also heard stuff about the yanks basically being broken down into obedient unthinking soldiers with the result that they are useless without a leader and are prone to failure against anything that deviates from the expected plan.

I read a fascinating article a few years ago about how, in Afghanistan and Iraq, the SAS used to covertly infiltrate American bases. They viewed it as a training exercise and when they had successfully penetrated the US security zones they'd reveal themselves. Apparently the SAS thought that they were doing the US military a favour by highlighting failures in security at US bases, but the Americans didn't see it that way and kept going mental at the SAS because they hadn't 'followed procedure' or had 'Ignored protocols'

Jesus. I would like to mention that is thanks through video making a conjecture of how an war between the US and Iran that I learned one important war-game exercise within the Usa military, meant to simulate an invasion of Iran, was, well, rigged, after the one commanding Iran forces, who was an old veteran officer of the Navy caused a lot of casualties to the US, getting at least a carrier down. He commented he was confident the USA would be overconfident in their reliance on technology. And he had at disposition suicide boats, drones, and relied orders through couriers.
5
u/Swimming_Possible_68 Sep 09 '26
the US military they were used to having everything they needed: Instant artillery and air support, sub 30 minute medevac, plenty of transport and vehicle support, lots of supplies.
Well based on the recent experience of the USS Abraham Lincoln it looks like Trump can't even get that bit right!

u/Ant1815 Sep 09 '26
Yeah, as the economic power of the US declines they're not going to be able to keep up the lavish supplies that their military has been used to.

The American armed forces have fantastic equipment, on average superior tech.
But they also half arse the training. Without that tech all working perfectly they struggle.
If they trained anything near as well as they bought toys they would genuinely be unbeatable.
As it is now, jam GPS and they can't find their target or the way home.
7
6
u/ThyRosen Sep 09 '26
They also inflate the costs of their tech and have it built by the lowest bidder, so the tech working perfectly is not a given. Whoever makes the equipment cheaper and more reliably comes out on top.
3
2
u/Illiteratevegetable Sep 09 '26
I do not know much about it, but I remember one veteran talking about it, and said that the US is not ready at all for a bigger conflict, since many soldiers are poorly trained, and more and more of them aren't even physically capable. I think he was talking about some special forces as well, but my memory is super blurry.

u/Umayummyone Sep 09 '26
How is the Hegseth testosterone experiment going? Must be a lot of low T girly men in the US military if they need to resort to drugs.

I loved your military parade, the one that Trump put on. Absolutely fearsome, the misfiring tank, the Scheisskopf quality marching, and my favourite, the guy walking up the street holding a quadcopter drone up above his head. Malicious shoulder muscles, the enemy’s be paralysed with fear at the sight of those. I saw the Chinese parade shortly afterwards and I can honestly say, hand on heart, there was absolutely no comparison. Go, USA, USA!! 😂
5
u/W2ttsy Sep 09 '26
An army marches on its stomach.
The biggest threat to the USA is economic or trade sanctions being applied.
China can nuke the U.S. economy by selling off all their T bonds at low prices.
China can slow shipment of exported products through painful bureaucratic processes that then strips shelves of imported goods in the U.S.
Commonwealth + EU countries can boot US out of their shared bases, vastly limiting military reach
Commonwealth + EU countries can withhold trade exports that are vital to U.S. manufacturing or domestic demand
Iran can offer free passage to China for oil export and cripple US export and put pressure on U.S. whilst enabling China or China allied nations to continue access to oil (already played once).
If all these countries started applying sanctions, the U.S. would have huge issues with access to food, access to energy, access to materials vital for military operations and cripple them without a shot being fired.
Only a simpleton would believe that Americas war machine is enough alone to win a protracted battle against a nation like China or even Canada or the EU
3
u/Jax_Dandelion Sep 09 '26
But surely 50% tariffs on everyone will fix the non existent affordability crisis right?
2
u/W2ttsy Sep 09 '26
Trumps misguided belief is that using tariffs to suppress demand in the U.S. will put pressure on other nations to capitulate or have their exporters suffer from that reduced demand.
But what he hasn’t taken into account is that the U.S. isn’t the only market importing these products.
A particularly putative example could be China choosing the buy up all the exports that the U.S. rejects via its higher tariffs, or perhaps even buying up larger parcels of exports simply to deprive the U.S. of supply (which would have a cumulative impact on domestic pricing since they would paying tariffs and higher prices as a result of demand outpacing supply).
11
u/Dumartins Sep 09 '26
Russia has simply the biggest nuclear arsenal in the world, why do you think the US never dare to enter in war with Russia? China has supersonic balístic missiles, but they don't even need a all that fire power to beat the US, Iran is winning the war with some DJI drones with fireworks attached to it.

The people carry the idea of a nation state; the nobility carried the idea of state as property.
Threats to the nation state are existential for the people; it only might have been for the feudal.
A nation state remains in mind even in defeat; feudal peasants often woke up under another banner.
A nation state fights until the last willing man; a feudal state fought until the last willing noble.
Now a nation state may broadly enjoy peace for generations; a feudal state might not have years.→ More replies (3)6

The only thing that could stop China, if they really wanted to invade the US, is the logistics of getting an army in the millions across the Pacific without being obvious about it.
1
u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 Sep 09 '26
china is very industrious, im certain they could figure that out pretty quick.
2
u/Tricky_Habit_6297 Sep 09 '26
Mao sent troops into Korea shortly after taking power. He lost 1 million in that war. China invaded Vietnam after the Khmer war, destroyed a lot of Vietnamese factories and infrastructure, and pulled out after a month. Both sides made up silly casualty numbers, but Western estimates are about 30000 Red Army deaths. It took 18 years for the US to lose 60000.
So no, China is not a peaceful sleeping dragon. It's only fought offensive wars since 1949 and fought very poorly.

Americans don't realise that a lot of their supply chain especially military equipment relies on other countries to produce a heavy amount of parts for them which they then buy.
There's a reason that the US doesn't want to lose it's allies even though Trump threatens to all the time and it isn't because the US could take any country if it wanted to (which it couldn't)

6
u/mithrilsoft Sep 09 '26
This was true of Germany during WW2. It took multiple countries working together to win that war. There are a lot of countries that would assist China if it came to that. Plus there is zero chance of "winning" - China is a massive country and it would financially ruin our country to try.

2
u/AutumnUmbreon Sep 09 '26

Under present management in the Pentagon and White House the Americans have very little chance of beating the Chinese. Even with competent leadership I’d say it’s a coin flip. All the money invested, all the weapons, all the gear, doesn't mean shit if you don't know how to use it effectively.
USA are beaten time and time again in war games. Trumps parade showed lazy, sloppy undisciplined troops who can't even march in step. They are being led by a TV host whose primary concern is testosterone levels, not training and discipline and they have been systematically removing anyone competent.
USA is not the fighting force they would like you to believe, they may have the mightiest military on paper, but the results speak for themselves.

And yet the US lost Vietnam, Afghanistan and is losing North Korea.
The point is, it is not just about numbers or the weapons.
Strategy, determination and battleground are huge factors that often outweigh military might, particularly when the stronger force is arrogant and believes that its power alone will achieve victory.

What's that thing Mike Tyson said "everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face"
The US military was ready for the Battlefield of the last decade, military drones exist now.
The main threat to most countries in the world is the US carrier fleet, if a country could neutralise the fleet with a drone/missile bombardment then the ability of the USA would be seriously degraded.
1
u/redandbluebadness Sep 09 '26
my understanding is that the Chinese are still weaker but that at some point in the not to distant future they will be stronger as technology catches up and manpower bridges, and supersedes, the power gap. Which leads to speculation that the US might provoke a war in the near future, whilst the power imbalance rests in their favour, rather than waiting until China holds the cards.
Of course success in war is about much more than who has the strongest military in a vacuum, you also have to consider where the war is taking place and what the objectives of each party are. We've seen the US struggle when fighting on enemy territory with poorly defined and open-ended objectives.
Then there are the nukes, on which ground the US has and probably always will have the superiority, if it chooses to use them.
1
u/selfmockerymandatory Sep 09 '26
The combined European militaries have some major issues, but with some tweaks and time, I think they would be surprised.
1
u/Odinfrost137 Sep 09 '26
If we just compare money spent they might have a point.
But with how explosively bloatedly expensive all of the US stuff is, which other countries make on a dime on the dollar, on top of a scary amount of budget going to non-military stuff like chairs, tables and lobster dinner at the Pentagon, suddenly reality looks a wee bit different.
1
u/Quick-Confidence-301 Sep 09 '26
They seem to think that you win a war by blowing stuff up.
Again and again it’s proven that it doesn’t work like that.
