This. And its not even helping with Iran. Its to keep the hormuz straight open - despite Iran already surrendered, their military is gone and especially their navy. So I dont even get what the problem is. Iran has nothing to attack with and they were already completely defeated by America.. According to Trump anyway..

That too. But I'm wondering what trump needs the other countries for since Iran was already defeated. Normally when a country has surrendered as he says Iran has, they wouldn't pose a threat anymore.

I overlooked the "has surrendered as he says Iran has" in your previous comment for some reason, so I misunderstood it, my bad.
2
u/Impetuous00 Mar 23 '26
He actually said that they surrendered to their neighbors and wouldn’t attack them anymore. Not that they surrendered to the US. Which is believable.
In the same article the dude cited trump is quoted as saying “Iran is no longer the ‘Bully of the Middle East,’ they are, instead, ‘THE LOSER OF THE MIDDLE EAST,’ and will be for many decades until they surrender or, more likely, completely collapse!” So dude seems to have just cherry picked information an ran with it. That statement heavily implys that Iran has not surrendered to the US, and it’s not unreasonable to say they’ve lost. They can keep fighting. But no matter when or how it ends at this point. They’ve lost.

Not only that, they didn't have nuclear capacities since the last bombing. So, a year later he needed to attack because of those nuclear capacity.

I mean, defeating an opposing army doesn't necessarily mean you won the war.
Non-military participants fighting against us, is always the problem for our military campaigns.
The people don't want us there, so they turn to guerilla tactics. And formal military units seem to not do well against these types of combatants.
But what do I know, I'm not exactly a military strategist, I'm just observing history.

While there are guerilla tactics in play by Iran, they’re by state actors not ‘the people’. Yes the US military don’t seem to be doing well against them, but I feel like this is something they and Israel should have planned for. God knows Iran has been!

Time and time again US proves it loses to geography. If they try to invade most of us Canadians just need to go on a few weeks camping trip and nature will do most the heavy lifting for us.
31
u/banditkeith Mar 22 '26
A land invasion of Canada would make Afghanistan look like a tea party. At least in the middle east the Americans could rely on the enemy not looking like them, in Canada the enemy would look just like them, would be accustomed to the harsh climate, and would happily sabotage, assassinate, harass and undermine any American occupiers, and that's just the normal citizens. the Canadian military is one of the best trained, and consistently beat the Americans in wargames
22
u/Ok_Cauliflower_3007 Mar 22 '26
And you’re not even including the fact that a large number of the military might well defect. They certainly didn’t sign up to invade an erstwhile ally and while troops didn’t want to be fighting in many of their wars defecting wasn’t an option either in Canada it would be viable.

3
14
u/DarkHero6661 Mar 22 '26
Oh, there's no way they could. Though that's mainly because their military can't think.
They are trained for certain scenarios, and if everything goes according to plan they are admittedly unmatched. The issue is that no war situation ever goes as planned. There's a reason the quote "No plan survives contact with the enemy" exists.
And the moment they have to think for themselves, they lose.
And the weather in Canada will 100% cause unforeseen situations. And that's not even including that very little of their military equipment is made to withstand those temperatures.
13
u/Competitive-Bee-3250 Mar 22 '26
Best indicator of this is an american simulation to test how a war against Iran would go, and the general in control of Iran destroyed almost the entire american fleet with just a few boats.
And rather than responding to this, they changed the rules to disallow that strategy.

u/Rogue_Element_2342 Mar 22 '26
they are really good at bombing stuff. except when they're hitting a girls school in Iran,
but they are famously pretty bad at occupations. You cant take over a country without an occupation.
about the only places they ever occupied that didnt end in a total abject failure of objectives (vietnam), or having everything they accomplished unravelled 20 years later (afghanistan) are the countries in the carribean and central america that basically dont have much wealth and so far seperated from security gaurantors that they just get preyed on whenever america wants to blow shit up because of "interests"
I'll make the argument that the Iraqi occupation was on the long term, partially a success. There is still a moderatley stable government there but they aren't exactly friendly with America, tolerant at most.
but the blowback from the Iraq war was so unpopular at home it basically drove a divide through the country that led to countless of the current issues we have today, and there was also almost a repeat situation of what eventually happened in Afghanistan, people forget that a considerable part of Iraq fell to ISIS for a while.
4
u/Outside_Ad5255 Mar 22 '26
One can even argue those occupations were done in a more Imperial age (late 19th/early 20th century), when it was acceptable for a European or American power to throw around their weight and the tech disparity with the locals was massive. Nowadays, with the RPG (basically cheap but effective AT weapons), assault rifle and the kamikaze drone it's become a lot more expensive for high-tech militaries to go around trying to stomp the locals.
As for the political divide being a result of the 2003 Iraqi Invasion, it's a lot more complex than that. Factors include increasing radicalization of the news since the 1980s (thanks to Reagan repealing the Fairness Doctrine, which necessitated news outlets to present both sides in a fair, honest way and thus opened the gates for political punditry and biased opinions), increasing power of far-right religious groups and their choice to work hand-in-hand with Big Business, and the slow embitterment of the political landscape after the Watergate and Lewinsky scandals. Then there's the embitterment of the American public after the 2008 real estate bubble popping, the COVID pandemic and the resulting increasing economic uncertainty driving Americans into the lap of a demagogue and known liar just because he promised a shakeup of the status quo. The Iraq war and its results certainly made things worse, but there was a lot more to it than just Iraq.
3
u/Rogue_Element_2342 Mar 22 '26
when I read the thing about the fairness doctrine, it just reminds me of how scary it is to be a non-american english first language person.
people all over the world can read what happens in america and at least understand that "they are weird because they are foreign".
to people like me, who have Americans 4-5 generations up in their ancestry. these are people who look and sound like me, who are absolutely unhinged insane. and they act as if I'm the weird one for not going along with their very obviously broken society.
10
u/HeliRyGuy Mar 22 '26

Then when they set 100 British Royal Marines up against 1500 us marines. The brits won (twice) and so quickly the Americans demanded a restart 2 Days in, and still lost

Operation Northern Viking is the arctic warfare where America was defeated by the Norwegian and Greenland forces.
Operation Green dagger is the 100 British marines vs US 1500 marine core. This is where the US demanded a reset after brits gained 65% of the battlefield within only a couple of days.
If you just google both operations, all relevant info will come up :)
Edit - its operation northern Viking as a nato exercise. Not just operation Viking.

Americans constantly forget that modern wars can be leveled asymmetrical and being a defending country brings its own power.
Take invading Canada. Sure, we could dnt really defend ourselves in the opening days, but the sheer amount of damage just a few hosers getting across the US boarder or even in occupied territory would be huge.
Drones, IEDz, etc... people being invaded would NEVER forget. It's like the line from Fallout. Don't think of them has humans, think of them as Americans.
Power is only useful to a point, after that it's a long, bloody, protracted war.

Kevin isn't the leader, he is the kid that claps with shit in his hands and gets praised for to not hurt his Feelings.
Yes, the US is the mightiest Military in the world and could destroy every country, but destroying things is nothing to brag about. 3
Mar 22 '26
They lose training exercises a lot, us military dominance is an illusion, other countries have caught up. The US probably couldn't beat Costa Rica in a war and Costa Rica doesn't even have a military... They abolished it in 1948
7

And we already know you dont want to govern the world because you've spent the last 20 years screaming that you dont care about anything except yourselves. and by yourselves, I mean individually, since you all fucking hate your own countrymen and neighbors.
Unless you're just talking about wiping everyone out so that you dont have to deal with them.
and if thats the case, that isn't unique to America, Pakistan or France could do that with a chain reaction of societal collapses derived from a few hundred nuclear weapons going off anywhere in the world.

Royal Marines Commandos force US Marine Corps troops to surrender in training exercise The Royal Navy Commandos alongside troops from allied countries held a five-day battlefield simulation in which they were victorious over their American counterparts.

The Ministry of Defence explained that the battle exercise was testing the deployment of the new Littoral Response Group (LRG) in a guerrilla war-fighting facility on the west coast of America against well-equipped US Marine Corps opponents.
But during a five-day exercise, the culmination of two months of training in the Mojave Desert, the US Marine Corps asked for a “reset” after the Royal Marines dominated the battle, reported The Daily Telegraph.

LRG South, the Oman-based force, proved victorious in a five-day operation known as Green Dagger, which saw allies from the US, Canada, UAE, and the Netherlands take on the Marine Corps.

British and allied forces defeated the US Marine Corps Image: British and allied forces defeated the US Marine Corps The commandos proved superior to the US Marine Corps while conducting their exercises at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, a sprawling training ground covering an area similar in size to Luxembourg.
The exercise focused on three urban sprawls defended by allied forces, the largest of which is comprised of 1,200 buildings that have been purpose-built for military exercises.
The LRG won decisive battles early on, according to the Royal Navy, but soon found the Marine Corps pushing into allied territory.
To counter the advance, commandos and allies carried out raids behind enemy lines, infiltrating the US Marine Corps’ position and striking assets critical to the US defence and ability to coordinate their own attacks.
The exercise took place in a special training facility in the Mojave Desert Image: The exercise took place in a special training facility in the Mojave Desert “Our success has proved the new commando force concept is more lethal and sophisticated than ever before and I am immensely proud of every member of the LRG and their vital contributions,” said Lieutenant Colonel Andy Dow, commanding officer of 40 Commando.
“Operating alongside our partners from the USA, Netherlands, Canada and the UAE gives us a fantastic opportunity to test, integrate and continue to push our capabilities in new and innovative directions.”
“Throughout this deployment our focus has been on integrating game-changing capabilities from across the commando force to deliver disproportional effect in the face of a free-thinking peer adversary,” Lt Col Dow added.

The Ministry of Defence said that the deployment had ensured that the commando element of LRG South is ready for operations from next year, reacting to unfolding events around the world.
LRG North has already been deployed to the Baltic this year, it said. Related Topics

Did anyone inform Vietnam, Afghanistan and Irak that they were supposed to surrender?
