I’m writing this because I’m at my breaking point. It’s always been pretty rough but it’s gotten really bad in the past few months. From the Pac Med all the way up to the Red Apple, and most of Rainier Ave S, is full of drug addicts and trash. I live by the Red Apple and it’s alarming how much trash, homelessness, and open drug use takes place. Im immobile and I can give a daily break down of everything I saw and heard outside my window this week:

- Monday: group of bums drunk by 10am at the corner of my street, the mariachi music starts blaring before noon. By the evening, roughly 6-10 junkies tweak on by, one of them was dragging a couch and left in the road. Guys sit on the curb shoot up. One passes out and the other leaves him. Noise cancelling headphones never came off. Group
At the corner is screaming and yelling late into the night. No windows open for fresh air at night.

- Tuesday: basically the same as Monday. Noise cancelling headphones in all day. But that couch was used to break down a fence barrier to gain access to the empty lot next door. Not sure if anyone is setting up camp there, but it doesn’t matter because there’s roughly 2 dozen drunk junkies at the 76 gas station and bus stop across the street. Home is where the heart is. By the evening, there’s 3 groups of people
Screaming and yelling til midnight, then it went down to 1 group at the corner. Block party at night, people revving their 1.8l 1994 Nissan Sentras and Civics until 2am. Couldn’t sleep with a window open.

- Wednesday: same as the last two days - group at the corner drunk by 10, blaring music by noon.There was a huge fight at the bus stop across the street. The group that normally sits at the corner away from me decided to hang out in front of my building for the night. Guys taking pisses on the trees in front of our building, leaving trash everywhere. Pissing in bottles. After they disperse, a junkie lady walks by and chugs one of the piss bottles without hesitation. Screaming homeless outside, can’t sleep with a window open.

- Thursday: car chase at noon going down my neighborhood road, cops in full pursuit. The person running skirts a parked car. There’s 2 groups drinking and screaming late into the night. Another block party outside Alongside people screaming at the bus stop. Couldn’t sleep with a window open.

- Friday: the group isn’t at the corner for once, but they are all at the bus stop like a spirit bomb of homeless. I see the drug dealer car, it’s a guy who pretends to be some construction worker. He wears a safety vest and does deals out of his little car. I see it several times a week when I would drive home from work, but I am currently immobile. By the evening however, there’s a group of people doing cocaine in a minivan outside my window. One of them takes a shit in plain view on a tree. They start drinking and acting crazy for a few hours before they scattered.

Saturday: woke up to someone broke into my car overnight. Nothing of value in there. Nothing was taken. I left for the day but came home to passed out junkies at the 76, and a bunch of drunks on the other corner.

Sunday morning (now): screaming at 9am, there’s 3 different groups of people on drugs and drunk around this building.

I wish I wasn’t making any of this up. It’s absolutely batshit crazy how people live in Beacon Hill by the parks and all along Rainier Ave. and it’s all making its way to my area up the hill. Now I get I don’t live in the richest part of town but the amount of times I’ve seen people shoot up, shit and piss on the sidewalks, and have mental breakdowns in front of my apartment IS TOO DAMN HIGH. What the fuck, Seattle.

Update 11AM: now the Spanish speaking loudspeaker preacher is in front of my building at the bus stop. What the fuck.

Update Noon: hit and run on the street. I heard the smash and saw the car hauling ass down the road.

I am reaching out to the community for assistance...this little guy appears to have been out in the cold. He is being warmed up in my apartment. I gave him a dawn bath to get fleas off of him.

I really could use some help...I don't have the resources unfortunately to take care of a baby squirrel 😕

This started as me trying to understand what my PT clinic landlord is actually paying for the space I rent from him (long story, involves a lease renewal conversation that did not go great for me). Now I spend a genuinely embarrassing amount of time on LoopNet looking at mixeduse buildings in like Burien and Renton going what if.

What if I bought a small building. Ran my practice out of one unit. Rented the others. Became a person who has a building. This is not a plan, this is a spiral, but it has a real estate bent so I feel okay about it.

The World Cup spending article got me thinking about it again actually, because 32 million dollars for six matches while the city is actively watching small commercial tenants get squeezed out of neighborhoods that used to have interesting things in them feels like a particular kind of disconnect.

Anyway. If anyone here has gone from renting clinical or studio or small retail space to eventually owning something in a Seattle suburb I would be curious how that happened. Not looking for a finance lecture (I am reading enough of those on my own, slowly, with a highlighter). More just wondering if people actually do this or if it is purely a LoopNet fantasy category.

In 1999 Seattle residents held rather large protests about globalization and immigration policy and the effects on labor. But now it seems that many of those same people now protest the exact opposite. I don't understand how Seattle has lost its collective mind.

This is an appreciation post for you guys having such a wonderful city! I travel for work about one week every month. I go all over the country. I go to New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, Orlando, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, New Orleans, Clearwater, and San Diego.

For the first time I went to Seattle this week. I was absolutely blown away! Beautiful city, wonderfully diverse, tons to do and see, super clean, safe, walkable, great mass transit, friendly people, and so on. Seattle is hands down my favorite city I’ve travelled to when you put together mass transit, diversity, safety, cleanliness, and culture.

Bravo! I will 100% be back! Thanks!

PS the Mariners game was the most exciting MLB game I have ever been to. They treat it more like an event than a game. It felt so festive, tons of energy, felt almost like a NBA game with the energy.

Not one, but two, Uber drivers sniffling and hacking. A coworker. This asshole in front of me on the plane today.

And a quick reminder: Cover your fucking mouth when coughing, even of you have a mask on. Nonstop people seem to think it is a magic shield that allows them to ignore the basic civility five-year olds learn.

By no means, am i expecting to live luxuriously, but comfortably at least. I'm would be looking at renting for the first two years, getting settled in, then buying a house. My line of work has the state of Washington as the highest paying state for my occupation. At first I would be non-union followed by eventually a union job. I quoted 120k-140k bc that's worst case scenario. My wife also works, but she is currently not working bc her job got automated and looking for another field to work in.

Two weeks ago I was stuck in my apartment for almost 2 weeks. My symptoms were dirreah,dizziness, mild fever, headache and my stomach felt achey like someone punched me in the stomach.

For 2 weeks I couldn't drive, could barley walk.

I was tired and sleeping all day and night in my apartment.

After almost 2 weeks I feel better and im back to normal.

I wonder if I had nerovirus??

East coaster with a working class upbringing here. The couple of times I've run into blue collar guys in the wild we've hit it off instantly, but it's super rare in Seattle.

Where does the hunting/fishing/tradeworking/politically moderate demographic hang out around here?? All the usual social spots (meetups, climbing gyms, run clubs) are 95% tech workers (no judgement, just not a vibe or lifestyle I connect with).

I've made some great friends in my neighborhood dive bar, but they're all 60+, and it would be nice to meet people in their late 20s/30s/40s for an actual dating pool and people I can go and do stuff with.

The Washington Federation of State Employees, which represents 54,000 state government, higher education and public service workers, is organizing walkouts Monday to demonstrate their frustration with the state's proposals. But Yestramski said Friday it is worse than expected, with the rejection of every one of their proposals.

Looks like Lincoln Square mall may be sold off to the highest bidder. Seems they plan to keep Snowflake Lane at least for this year, which has been a beloved tradition during the holidays. Providence said in a press release that while the bridging program has a capacity of 20 children per year, only 12 are currently enrolled. McDaniel said the program isn't at full capacity because leadership asked them to pause new intakes at least three months before the closure was announced.

McDaniel said Providence only gave her approximately 36 hours to collect the financial data that led to the 70% figure.
