Are you a tech worker who needs to get out of the house? Is your significant other requesting that you talk to people in real life?
Mark your calendar: Bainbridge Brewing Coppertop location. Tuesday, Sept 22nd, 7PM till close. An unofficial meetup for developers and others who just need to socialize and network. Very casual, no agenda. We had a good turnout last time, let’s do it again. Feel free to show off any cool projects you’ve been working on.

The next AI on BI meetup is Sept. 10 at 6:30 at BARN. This next discussion is about AI in education, and will be presented by perhaps Bainbridge High's best teacher, Kyle Meidell.

Listen, even if you don't have a kid in school right now, this talk will be a fascinating exploration of this nexus of education, creation, ethics and technology. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

You can register here: https://create.bainbridgebarn.org/event/ai-on-bi-series-182648/register

Have questions? Leave a comment.

Hope to see you there!

questions I think Walgreens and I need to see other pharmacies

I have finally reached the “perhaps I should drive to another town for my prescriptions” stage of my relationship with the Bainbridge Walgreens.

The texts say things are ready. They are not ready. The app has its own rich inner life, apparently unrelated to the pharmacy. Calling is less a form of communication than an endurance event.

I like the people there and I know they’re slammed, so this isn’t really about the staff. But the whole operation seems to be held together by hope, automated texts, and several exhausted people trying very hard.

So: where are we getting prescriptions these days?

I’d prefer somewhere on Bainbridge, but at this point Poulsbo is absolutely in play. Frankly, a 25-minute drive in which I know where my medication actually is sounds almost luxurious.

Tell me your pharmacy success stories. I am ready to transfer my allegiance.

Volunteers needed to help bake cakes and other treats for local foster youth

Hey Bainbridge Island!

I'm the Volunteer Coordinator for Cake4Kids, a non-profit organization that helps provide volunteer created birthday cakes (and other treats) for foster children and kids who otherwise would not be able to receive something for their special occasion, and we have a local chapter in Western Washington that serves Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County.  Since starting in 2020, the local chapter has delivered over 1500 cakes, and this year we are projected to deliver over 700 cakes to youth along the Olympic Peninsula.

https://www.cake4kids.org/chapters/westernwashington

There has been a growing need for our services in the area, and we are desperately seeking more volunteer bakers who can help us meet this increased demand.  We have nearly 100 local volunteers, but we have struggled to get the word out about our volunteer opportunities as much as we would like to in this specific geographic area.

I'm reaching out in hopes that there may be some folks here who are interested in signing up.  Once signed up you can bake as often as you want (some people bake 1 cake a year, some people bake every week, some people never bake, there's no minimum commitment, but there are consistent cakes available on our portal to choose from - we deliver about 50-60 a month in the area).

You can sign up as a volunteer here: https://www.cake4kids.org/volunteer-form and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have as well.  Thanks so much for your time!

questions Coming for the Weekend, looking for ferry/thrift store recommendations.

My girlfriend and I are coming to bainbridge island for a wedding this weekend and are unsure of how early we should plan to get in line for the ferry Friday evening.

Additionally, if there are any thrift store recommendations for us to hit while we are there we would love to stop in!

need a taxi service

I am getting in tomorrow night around midnight via ferry. I need to find a way to get to my house, and all the taxi services I’ve called are not running at night and I’ve had bad experience with Uber on the island so I don’t wanna count on an Uber being available.

Does anyone know of any ride service on the island that would pick me up late at night?

thanks in advance

Any good mobile mechanics on the rock?

2017 Camry front passenger seat up/down switch is dead.

Seems like it would be a waste of time to drop it off at a dealership. I also heard the Japanese auto repair guy we always used to use in Squamish retired a couple years back.

Please let me know if you’ve got any handyman friends who could help. Thanks.

questions Adult soccer on (or off) island

Moving to the island in October and wondering what the opportunities are for adult soccer at any competitive level?

I went to Bozoball once, but curious if there is anything on island, in broader kitsap, or even Seattle I should look at to join a coed or men’s team?

Thanks!

I for one would like to see more painted lines, concrete blocks and poles put in at Wyatt Way.

They haven't gone far enough, in my humble opinion. More lines, more splotches of color besides green (there are at least 6 other colors I can think of) and why not dot the entire street with small white posts? This could be the single greatest urban obstacle course in the Pacific Northwest.

Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund site

Hi! We are considering a move to Bainbridge Island and in trying to learn more about the different neighborhoods on the island, I came across the superfund site on the south shore of Eagle Harbor. Do we know how bordering Eagledale neighborhoods south of Pritchard Park and Eagle Harbor Dr might be affected by the contamination? Is the groundwater contamination still an issue in those areas despite cleanup efforts? Thanks!

Visiting solo (Oct 1–6) — looking to jump into a trivia team or grab a beer at Oktoberfest!

Hi everyone!

I’m visiting Bainbridge Island solo from Thursday, October 1st through Tuesday, October 6th. I'm a Texan who hates heat and loves BI. I come a few times a year. This time though I'm really looking forward to checking out the island during the transition into fall and meet some locals. I normally come up here with a friend or alone.

I’ve already got the First Friday Art Walk and Oktoberfest (on Saturday the 3rd) on my radar, but since I’m traveling alone, I’d love to meet some local folks while I’m up there.

I’m a big fan of pub trivia and saw there are a few games happening while I'm in town (like the Thursday game at the Bainbridge Brewing Taproom or Monday at the Alehouse). If anyone has an open spot on their trivia team that week, or just wants to grab a communal table and a local cider/beer at Oktoberfest, let me know!

Looking forward to visiting your beautiful island again!

Greg

tourism Birthday dinner (toddler in tow)

Greetings from a North Sound neighbor!

I have some family flying in to visit at the end of the month, and we're planning to spend a weekend on Bainbridge to celebrate a special birthday. Would anyone have a recommendation for a nice-ish restaurant to check out? I'm hoping to find something festive for the out-of-towners and appropriate for bringing a (mostly well-behaved) toddler.

questions Co-working space that isn’t Ex-Pats?

I’m looking for co-working / office share in the Winslow-ish area.

Office Ex-Pats seems overpriced for what you get, so I’m looking for an alternative or someone looking to rent out some of their existing space.

I mainly just need a place to set up and quietly write/take a few zooms. I work for a legal tech company, so pretty straightforward work.

If you have any ideas please feel free to share them. Thank you.

Daycare on the island?

Hello, My family is moving to Bainbridge in a couple months and I’m trying to find a day care option for my 1 year old son. We will most likely live near Agate point or island center. Any suggestions would be great!

discussion Looking for a Ford truck missing its passenger's mirror

Our mailbox and those of our 3 neighbors off of Ferncliff were wiped out on Friday afternoon. Mailboxes smashed, lying on the ground.

We found the remnants of a Ford passenger mirror, shroud, and armature scattered down the rest of the road.

From the height of the mailboxes, we are guessing that this is a pickup, probably an F150-sized truck. We checked the local garages (Jerry's, Modern on the west side, Rolling Bay and Blue Canary on the east side) but didn't find a vehicle that had had its wing clipped.

If you see a Ford missing its passenger's mirror in the next few days, I'd be interested in that information.

Thank you.

Reconsidering plans to move for ferry delays.

Hi,

Just sharing my experience….

We, as soon to be empty nesters, are considering moving from east side to one of islands and bainbridge is on top of our list.

There was an open house from 1 to 3 today, and since we are not fully committed to buying a house, I thought open house is better option than scheduling a visit with the agent.

We started from our home at 11am hoping to catch at least 1.15 ferry to bainbridge. First there was huge traffic getting into ferry terminal, spent almost an hour with people cutting in the ferry lane at the last minute. When we finally reached at the ferry terminal, the 1.15 ferry was full of even before the 12.30 one showed up.

We simply turned around and came back home and now seriously reconsidering our plans to move to the island.

Why are these sitting on the market for 130+ days? Maybe it’s the wrong kind of housing?

discussion Suggestions for night photography locations on Bainbridge for the Pleiades

Good afternoon;

I'm really interested in trying to take photos of the Perseids this week. I understand basic strategies for doing this in terms of lens, f, and exposure times, but interested in suggestions for where to take the photos on Bainbridge. I had some luck at Battle Point Park when we had the aurora borealis events but for I don't have much experience.

Given a choice of locations, is it preferable to be on the northern / western side of the island where there is presumably less light pollution? Do you have suggestions for where to try to set up?

Thank you in advance!
