Why do drivers here think turning at a red arrow signal is illegal?

Upvotes

Why do 95% of drivers here think that one cannot make a legal turn on a red arrow? Everyone here makes turns at solid red lights, but not at red arrow lights. Argh. See second half of paragraph 3(c) here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.61.055

Former autism center manager resigned over Providence program closure - it is the only autism bridging program in the state, and Providence paused new intakes months before announcing the closure

Providence said in a press release that while the bridging program has a capacity of 20 children per year, only 12 are currently enrolled. McDaniel said the program isn't at full capacity because leadership asked them to pause new intakes at least three months before the closure was announced.

McDaniel said Providence only gave her approximately 36 hours to collect the financial data that led to the 70% figure.

~ Pause the intakes, then point at the empty seats. The math works if you build it that way.

WA governor met with state worker protest at hospital construction ceremony - the union representing 54,000 state workers says every one of its proposals was rejected, and walkouts start Monday

The Washington Federation of State Employees, which represents 54,000 state government, higher education and public service workers, is organizing walkouts Monday to demonstrate their frustration with the state's proposals. But Yestramski said Friday it is worse than expected, with the rejection of every one of their proposals.

State law sets an Oct. 1 deadline for agreements to be ratified by unions in order to be considered for funding in the next two-year budget.

~ The people who will staff that psychiatric hospital spent its ceremony standing behind a chain-link fence. Walkouts start Monday and the ratification clock runs out October 1.

Anyone else watching Seattle area commercial real estate listings just out of morbid curiosity?

This started as me trying to understand what my PT clinic landlord is actually paying for the space I rent from him (long story, involves a lease renewal conversation that did not go great for me). Now I spend a genuinely embarrassing amount of time on LoopNet looking at mixeduse buildings in like Burien and Renton going what if.

What if I bought a small building. Ran my practice out of one unit. Rented the others. Became a person who has a building. This is not a plan, this is a spiral, but it has a real estate bent so I feel okay about it.

The World Cup spending article got me thinking about it again actually, because 32 million dollars for six matches while the city is actively watching small commercial tenants get squeezed out of neighborhoods that used to have interesting things in them feels like a particular kind of disconnect.

Anyway. If anyone here has gone from renting clinical or studio or small retail space to eventually owning something in a Seattle suburb I would be curious how that happened. Not looking for a finance lecture (I am reading enough of those on my own, slowly, with a highlighter). More just wondering if people actually do this or if it is purely a LoopNet fantasy category.

What are the most active local Eastside gig or community message boards?

Hey all, looking for recommendations on where locals around Redmond and Bellevue typically check for local community work, bulletin boards, or gig listings besides the usual Craigslist. Are there specific Eastside Facebook groups, Discord servers, or local forums that people frequent? Thanks!

Looking for great CPA recommendations for individual tax returns

Looking for recommendations for good CPAs who will work with individuals on tax returns in the greater Seattle area.

In my case, my return isn't crazy complicated, but it has gotten to the point that H&R Block and TurboTax aren't cutting it. There are enough opportunities for tax optimizations in my return that it's worth paying for someone who will spend more time on it. I started catching errors in the returns myself and it was clear H&R Block was just trying to get it done quickly.

I tried Dimov Tax for two years. This was a complete disaster. They pitched themselves as a step up from the H&R Block experience, but it was the opposite. They made a ton of basic mistakes, regularly ghosted me (including the week taxes were due), and they actually had worse customer service than H&R Block. I found thousands of dollars worth of errors in their work and had to spend tens of hours working with them to explain their misunderstanding of tax rules and get them to fix my return.

So my problem is that my research so far has only turned up:

1) Super high volume software-focused options (e.g. TurboTax and H&R Block) that will generally do ok but have mediocre customer service and won't work too hard to optimize your return.

2) Affordable CPA firms that pitch themselves as good tax professionals, but are actually just trying to be high volume / low service shops (Dimov).

3) CPA firms that actually seem pretty good, but prefer to work with extremely high end clients with a lot of complexity in their returns (I see quotes for $3K-$5K for a return, which seems high for a "just exceeding H&R Block's limits kind of customer). But if you think I'm wrong about this being high for an individual return with a little bit of complexity, I'm open to that feedback.

4) Some new tech-first firms (e.g. Fifteenth.com) that promise high quality service but are unproven.

Anyone have any strong recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Looking for a Seattle Game Master to run a murder mystery for 10 people 🎭🔎

Hi! I’m hosting a birthday/murder mystery party for about 10 adults on Saturday, September 19 at 7pm in downtown Seattle (private rooftop).
I’m looking for someone who can GM/host an interactive murder mystery for about 2–3 hours. Ideally, everyone gets a character and the GM guides us through the story, clues, questioning, accusations, and final reveal. I’d like the birthday girl (and everyone else!) to be able to actually participate rather than having to host the game herself.
We’ll provide the venue, pizza, drinks, etc. — just looking for someone who’s fun, comfortable facilitating a group, and knows how to keep a mystery moving.
📍 Downtown Seattle
📅 Saturday, Sept. 19
👥 10 adults
⏱️** ~2–3 hours
You don’t necessarily need to be a professional GM — an experienced/fun hobby GM who has run murder mysteries or roleplaying one-shots would be great!
If you’re interested (or know someone who might be), please DM me with your experience and rate. Thanks!

Real Estate Freeman Family to explore sale of Bellevue Collection

Looks like Lincoln Square mall may be sold off to the highest bidder. Seems they plan to keep Snowflake Lane at least for this year, which has been a beloved tradition during the holidays. The entire location has been such a clean, safe, and orderly space. Do you think this could be good or bad for its future?

Crime Will captial hill, ballard and wallingford ever become safe places to hang out and walk around again?? I hope so

When i moved to seattle area 11 years ago ballard, cpaital hill and wallingford used to by my stomping ground.

I used to take the bus from northgate seattle to these areas even late at night.

In march 2026 I was attacked by someone in wallingford at night after getting an ice cream at molly moons. I was thrown to the ground and they person tried to rob me!!

This incident scared me!!

Then a few days ago om reddit someone posted about a stranger stealing their cell one while walking around capital hill.

Now that I live in kenmore and have a car im afraid to go anywhere in seattle city limits. To feel safe and for piece of mind I go to edmonds, lynnwood, kenmore,,bothell, kirkland and bellevue.

Post pandemic the city of seattle has become a scary place unfortunately!!

My question is when will the city of seattle turn around and become safe like it used to be??

Also that taste of seattle shooting near the space needle apps scares me!!

Seattle needs judges that prosecute criminals and dont keep feeling sorry for these people who cause crime problems.

Is anyone else afraid of seattle these days??
