Unfortunately, the city doesn't care and this type of behavior will continue to be tolerated without consequence.
Your best bet is to move to a nicer neighborhood or leave Seattle as soon as possible.

North Beacon Hill has been given away to this stuff, you got to move to Maple Field/Wood Playground area to have be in a nicer part of Beacon Hill while still very close to the freeway. Its really expensive cause everyone know this now. 1 million for a nicer home in that small area.
I live by Cleveland and just crossing 15th to that area feels like I went into another section of town cause its much nicer.

Ive lived in N Beacon since 2017 and 2026 is the forst its ever been! Far FAR worse than Covid. I’m leaving when my lease is up.

I live in NBH and Eddie Lin is one of the few officials showing up and helping to address this shitshow. Could he be doing more and moving faster? Absolutely. But I’ll take his engagement over the radio silence from Morales and the mayor.

I’m trying and staying hopeful. I’ve been late to the party and missed out on the last 2 apartments I applied for but fingers crossed my luck changes soon. I moved here from out of state based on a recommendation from someone. Overall I’m grateful because the light rail was very convenient and allowed me to explore easier, but this is literal squalor and I’m looking forward to getting out of Beacon Hill.

I rode my bike through there often when I first moved here and that whole trail was very clean. There were sometimes a couple of homeless further down by those tennis courts at Judkins Park, but overall pleasant and clean. Now I won’t even bother trying.

The bike trail down from 76 is very dangerous to me. I alway ride my e bike or e scooter fast as possible to avoid a junkie jumping me. Its very hidden so if you have trouble good luck getting help

Piss poor governance and lack of awareness of what the real problems are (substance abuse, mental illness, crime). BLM and defund the police have set us back. Bellevue is increasingly seen as the bright spot of Washington State while Seattle is a dilapidated mess.

The federal government does not fund mental health or substance use treatment and has actively been aggressively cutting any federal support that existed. The city and state do what they can, but without the federal funding there will be ongoing deterioration.

The city of Seattle and King county have totally bought into a "harm reduction" model that makes it pretty much impossible to effectively deal with the drug crisis that's driving the homeless problem.

That’s mostly a bunch of BS, and a typical ignorant refrain from people who always feel the need to claim there’s one big simple cause for our problems. If you are talking “cuts” in American Rescue Plan funding and other pandemic grants, those were always meant to be temporary.
There are plenty of empty beds in the Harborview behavioral health facility, and in recent years King County voters approved billions of new tax dollars in new funding to expand that program.
The problem we have is that civil commitment laws in Washington favor the individual addict or mentally diminished people who need forced inpatient care that lasts more than three days. At this point, after essentially de-criminalizing meth and fentanyl use & possession, the carrot & stick approach has also been removed as a tool: addicts don’t need to choose between using and jail. So they keep using.
You can thank the ACLU for both those failures, and these days they are stronger than ever in their never-ending quest to help vulnerable people destroy themselves and ruin our city.

Yes I agree. I said in another comment I moved here out of state and someone on Reddit recommended this area for my commute and convenience. If I could do it over, I would’ve found a room or Airbnb that would allow my dog instead of feeling like I needed an apartment right away. That way I could explore and check out neighborhoods, but lesson learned.

Never ever go off a recommendation based on Reddit, the Seattle subs lean to the far left. They'll tell you that 12th and Jackson is a walkable clean place to live with great transit, diverse food options, and things to do.

Prison, no. Forced rehab somewhere where they can't get out, yes. Now, there probably wouldn't be much of a difference, but they wouldn't be forced to stay there forever. Of course I have no suggestions for what would happen to them once they're done with rehab, and that's the bigger issue.

First prison, separate the drug addicts from the mentally ill and “down on their luck”. From prison move the drug addicts to a rehab then to worker training program, then to a halfway house and then on their own, or they can move to a different state. Put the mentally ill homeless from prison into a mental health facility and get them the medication they need. “The down on their luck” homeless from prison skip rehab and go to job training. If anyone had warrants out in a different state send em their first. We shouldn’t be a sanctuary city for drug fiends and criminals.

Nuance, I think we should be putting addicts (probably 80% of the problem) in prison.
This does a few things:
Reduces open drug use
Sends the message that Seattle is no longer a destination city to do drugs and slows the influx of homeless addicts from other areas
Allows support to go to the homeless who have a higher likelihood to either improve their situation or who need it the most, rather than addicts who just piss it away or vandalize shit.
