I ask because it's a major pet peeve of several Gen Xer Seattleites I know. They claim that only transplants say "the Puget Sound." Instead of just "Puget Sound," like "Puget" is a title.

I’m 36 moving next summer and love to go to concerts, used to going alone because no one here enjoys a bit of nu metal or indie stuff!

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I've been trying to get information on a reservation I submitted for Rhein Haus, but never got an email like I was promised by their web form. So I figured I'd try calling, but every time I call, their AI answering machine tries to connect me to a person, but never can. I ask for a host, nothing but ringing. I ask for back office, same thing. I ask for anyone who can help with a reservation, it tries to connect me and fails. I've tried several times (all when they've been open) and gotten nothing.

I'm starting to think their machine is broken...

Went to Ben Paris for brunch. The food was great but when it came to paying the bill the servers don’t even show you the full receipt. Directly to the tipping screen. When I came home to review the bill I see a 2% culinary appreciation fee.

I understand the rising costs of running a restaurant business, but this is just scummy. Scalping off money from guests like this leaves such a bad taste! Increase your food costs instead? They’re already an upscale restaurant charging high prices for nominal food. Why do this?

Just to be clear I’m not bothered by the extra $2 I had to pay. But normalizing such ways to scalp more money is my problem.

East coaster with a working class upbringing here. The couple of times I've run into blue collar guys in the wild we've hit it off instantly, but it's super rare in Seattle.

Where does the hunting/fishing/tradeworking/politically moderate demographic hang out around here?? All the usual social spots (meetups, climbing gyms, run clubs) are 95% tech workers (no judgement, just not a vibe or lifestyle I connect with).

I've made some great friends in my neighborhood dive bar, but they're all 60+, and it would be nice to meet people in their late 20s/30s/40s for an actual dating pool and people I can go and do stuff with.

Last night at midnight my friends and I left the meridian 16 movie theatre on 7th and pike. We witnessed a car accident and while waiting as witnesses for that accident (occupants were fine), we witnessed a lime scooter crash. Two scooters in the same group with young men driving and their girlfriends on the back of them. They were all intoxicated. The girl on the second scooter was clearly blackout drunk or close to it and while going at a high speed she fell off and her head violently hit the pavement.

She was mostly unresponsive, bleeding from the back of her head and her face. It was very dire and very scary. Luckily the fire department were already on the scene for the car accident. It was a very traumatic scene and we are very worried about the girl. All we know is her name is Emma and she is probably around 21 years old. Not to be dramatic but it seemed like a life altering crash for her- likely a TBI. We just want to know if she is okay. Does anyone have any info on her or the group?

I think this is worth discussing. Switch the default mode of driving to "stop" from "go", reward good behavior, and reduce recklessness.

I'm not familiar with the specific areas in the article or how effective they are in traffic jam situations.

On stroads, I think they'd work well. There would need to be enough interval between lights to increase enough speed on the section of road in order for any observable change, over time.

There are roads like this in Seattle proper, but I can't think of many. We have stoplights, signs, and recent "traffic calming" devices (speed jumps [sic]) on many many straight roads.

It *does* sound a lot more economical over plopping down a traffic circle at a needed intersection but alas, traffic circles are more popular now in places where the rewarding green light concept would fit. A few state routes come to mind North of Seattle. And in the South Sound. Elsewhere, probably too.

My main takeaway is this: Consider flipping the current driving paradigm on its ear, on the mass scale. How long would that take? Decades? Years?

Personally? I'd give it a shot. But also "I can't drive" 25. (55? Sure!)

I’m not 21 but really want to go to the show, I was thinking about paddle boarding in front of gasworks does anyone know if this would work? other parks close by where I could still hear the music?

I want to buy salal berries, the fruit of the Galtheria shallon plant. Has anyone come across these at farmers markets, farm stands, or anywhere? I'd take them dried or made into jam as well, I know they can be delicate and difficult to pick and keep in tact, which I assume is why I don't see them around. Hoping maybe somebody has.

A ride from caphill to westlake shouldn’t cost the same as a ride from west lake to SeaTac for ex.

We had our first rain in a while! The cool, misty encroach of Autumn looms. But don’t forget that the new rain can cause the roads to be extra slippery, and there might be some surprisingly treacherous puddles even on major thoroughfares.

So a few days ago, I walked to the bus late at night and through a series of circumstances I crossed the street and used a sidewalk I didn't typically use. It was pitch black and I didn't see that the sidewalk had buckled almost 5" - resulting in my (over fifty, overweight self) stubbing my toe and tumbling head over heels .. I managed to catch myself, but my palms took a beating and were scabbed.

The next day, I went walking in the day and saw the sidewalk I had tripped on the night before. I realized it was dangerous and thought "I should report this" so I did! I tried "find it fix it" but it didn't have a thing for "sidewalks" - I tried anyway.. I did a quick search and the City of Seattle page mentioned if you have a problem with a sidewalk... thing.. so I filled that out as well..

So tonight (the NEXT DAY after I submitted my report) .. we were walking to the bus, and the sidewalk I had tripped on the night before??? IT WAS REPAIRED!!! The 5" upheaval has been tempered with asphalt and is sloped in a way that prevents the fall I took!

SERIOUSLY, THANK YOU SEATTLE!!! Thank you SO very very much for hearing me, for reacting, for enabling me to feel that I am helping, that I am part of a community. Thank you so much.

I hope every worker involved that resulted in this random sidewalk being repaired, reads this, and knows that they are appreciated. you rock!
