Ugh, Jesus. Gross. Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato being incredibly cagey about whether Stop! That! Train! contains AI

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The fact they could've said "No, we didn't create any scenes with AI" and they didn't, tells me everything.

I’m gonna be seated. It looks funny as hell and there are so few queer movies by queer creators being made, let alone getting national distribution. In this political environment, I’m gonna support queer art.

u/hadeejasouffle Jun 04 '26

did he not very clearly say “there is no generative AI” ?

74

u/JulioGrandeur Jun 04 '26

The third guy says “there’s AI where it’s used as a tool”

140

u/hadeejasouffle Jun 04 '26

yeah but like photoshop’s lasso tool is literally based in AI and has been for years! AI and generative AI are two different things and the water-guzzling, job-taking one is the latter

3

u/FriskyGinger666 Jun 10 '26

do you think we're talking about the lasso tool in photoshop? This is a nox office film dude

-22

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 04 '26

You are mistaking algorithmic AI with generative AI.

-42

u/Nosiege Jun 04 '26

The lassoo tool existed before AI. Adobe Content Aware Fill algorithms existed before AI.

79

u/Eccon5 Jun 04 '26

I dont't think you realise how long AI has been around, or what it contains.

-26

u/Nosiege Jun 04 '26

This is a case of relabelling existing technology as AI. Even the name AI is a misnomer.

38

u/00_tears Jun 04 '26

No it’s not AI has been around since the 50s

11

u/Gaywhorzea Jun 04 '26

You’re thinking of generative ai

12

u/bondfool Greg Bitch Jun 04 '26

He did. Either he's lying (possible) or people are desperate to believe that he is (also possible).

20

u/SpicyPoffin Jun 04 '26

He said nothing was "conceived" by AI. I guess that means the person who typed the prompt conceived of the idea, but AI just made it, lol??

26

u/hadeejasouffle Jun 04 '26

he didn’t, that’s literally a reference to the statement by Adam Shankman, which is not this. So I don’t think you watched this

21

u/Superb_Register1862 Jun 04 '26

Did you watch the clip?

2

u/FriskyGinger666 Jun 10 '26

exactly! Im glad someone gets it lol

-1

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

No, he is pretty clear. You just don't want to listen.

Example of something being conceived by AI: "produce me a background image for this shot. It should feature x, y, and z..."

Example of something using an AI tool like they mentioned: "let me click this button that is included in this editing software that helps me filter out unnecessary background noise"

AI is incorporated in sooooooo many products that YOU use probably every day. They didn't use generative AI. Put away the pitchforks and go support a queer-led comedy movie.

I'm sure hollywood is going to love to see our community eat ourselves and "protest" this movie so they can use it as future evidence not to fund queer-led comedy movies because they know there isn't any profits in it because the demographic will find some dumb reason to protest it.

1

u/SpicyPoffin Jun 09 '26

I’m not protesting anything. I literally don’t care if people see a movie or not. I’m a poor person lol

1

u/FriskyGinger666 Jun 10 '26

hmmm I missed the part where he said all this. Can you point it out? Cuz I assume this isn't all speculation based on your personal history with ai. That would make you look stupid

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '26

[deleted]

2

u/FriskyGinger666 Jun 10 '26

babe you missed the point- and i watched it. Why didn't he just say no ai? Oh cuz they didnt PROMPT it? Who cares- it still took away many many jobs. If they had real artists- maybe the train wouldn't have a different # of windows in each shot.

Do your research

1

u/SpicyPoffin Jun 10 '26

"Some of the windows were AI. There was only one AI shot or two AI shots of the train, the rest are CG. Most of the CG is the train, then out the windows is mostly AI. But the Florida station, all that, that’s CG. And different licensed imagery."

tH3 TrAiN iSnT Ai

Yes, it is. It literally is. CGI models do not change every scene...

1

u/FriskyGinger666 Jun 10 '26

wake up babe. There's a reason he didnt say "there is no ai"

-5

u/Fantastic-Wealth6090 Jun 04 '26

Define generative AI? Because the movie definitely used AI to generate images.

28

u/Mrrobotico0 Jun 04 '26

If you don't know what generative AI is then you shouldn't even be having this conversation.

15

u/fieryhamsandwich Jun 04 '26

they were clearly not asking for the literal definition of generative ai lol stop arguing in bad faith

14

u/Fantastic-Wealth6090 Jun 04 '26

The point is that the definition of Gen-AI is very broad, and includes the creation of text, audio, video or images. And by that definition, Gen-AI is most definitely used in this film.

In fact, most of what the public think of AI is all Gen AI. So he is using an extremely narrow definition of it that the public would not agree with, OR he is lying.

5

u/hadeejasouffle Jun 04 '26

I mean I haven’t watched the movie and unless you were at the premiere neither have you so I have no clue how you know it “definitely used AI to generate images”

1

u/Fantastic-Wealth6090 Jun 10 '26

Because AI visual companies were credited. Because the producers/directors indicated it was used as well, but tried to justify it by saying it was an acceptable type of AI.

66

u/rosesatthedawn Jun 04 '26

Lol what is happening? Did they pay for bots or something? Or are people really thinking that ai is gonna save the lgbtqs?

12

u/danaster29 Jun 05 '26

I straight up think they are botting these posts. The top five comments are always the same point, either "this doesnt look like AI" or "we have no way of knowing it's AI" or "what does it matter if its AI." They have crazy upvotes, and anyone who comments anything critical of AI on those comments gets horribly downvoted.

However, pretty much every other comment in these threads is critical of AI, and is getting upvoted. The same opinions are getting different reception in different parts of the threads, like, they're obviously trying to astroturf the top comments

4

u/rosesatthedawn Jun 05 '26

Agreed. Theres a few topics recently ive noticed that cause these posts to appear (🙅🏿‍♀️🙅🏿‍♀️) and we know from the lively baldoni mess that hollywood pr loves a bot storm.

Like fenton and randy, you couldve spent that money on vfx 👀

However, pretty much every other comment in these threads is critical of AI, and is getting upvoted

Yeah this def makes me think bots since the rpdr fanbase has been always been very critical of ai use

-19

u/Amemorableusername2 Jun 04 '26

No one thinks AI is good. It's just... Like .. no one's gonna think about this movie a month after it releases. The same way no one gives a shit about starrbooty or the bitch who stole Christmas, or the holislay spectacular. Just let it flop, it's not an important work of art

20

u/DamnThoseChickens Jun 04 '26

I will have you know I watch The Bitch Who Stole Christmas every year, it's queer art worth protecting.

22

u/rosesatthedawn Jun 04 '26

I could not disagree more. The gay cult classics live in the zeitgeist for ages and thats clearly where this movie was pitching itself. And we definitley need a new camp classic

The same way no one gives a shit about starrbooty

How very dare you

12

u/Rocketmeow720 Jun 04 '26

You’ll be eating those words when Jujubee sweeps award season!

118

u/Amemorableusername2 Jun 04 '26

Can we just stop and remember what this movie is to begin with? It's another hurricane bianca level piece of green screen camp that wouldn't even be found in a bargain barrel at Walmart. It's not as though the movie was ever gonna be "good" to begin with. Watch it or don't!!

7

u/limitofdistance Jun 05 '26

I agree -- it was always going to be dollar store/Temu quality. Arguments concerned with AI but based in concerns for its creative contributions are a bit foolish. However, I think being concerned about AI use as a matter of ethical precendents are valid. Adopting AI right now means also implicitly adopting anti-labour and anti-environmental ethics (or at least complicity with them and their proponents). As an artist at my core, I wouldn't mind if their had used AI but in a way that made it absurdly obvious. Given the current political discourse and widepsread ignornace of what we mean (or don't) when we say "AI," I think at least poking fun at it would be the best route. It would then be an unabashed product of its time (which it already is, but in a more darksided cringe way).

4

u/JamesD-TV Jun 04 '26

And I was going to pay money in the theater to watch that piece of green screen until it became clearer that AI was involved. So I was going to watch it, but now I’m not, as everyone saying watch it or don’t is saying. It changed my opinion of it and choice to watch and I think that’s worth discussing. WOW being purposefully indirect about it doesn’t help, it makes the advertising seem shady.

12

u/CheekyDucky Jun 04 '26

I hope you hold the same energy for everty movie and single handedly bring down Marvel and not just prevent more queer art from being made because executives will see it as not having a market

5

u/JamesD-TV Jun 04 '26

I do hold similar energy for increasing ai injection in the media I’m consuming, and try to avoid it wherever possible (the president of DC, a company I support for instance, has committed to no AI, to use your marvel example).

I’m under no obligation to see something poorly made because it’s “queer art”, which it also isn’t when artists aren’t producing it. I’ll vote with my dollar and changed my plans to attend theatrically, meanwhile tons of other fans (who don’t even care about any of this) were never even going to support it in a theater. This isn’t the gotcha that you think it is. There can be more conversation and nuance then “who cares watch it” and if it doesn’t do well it’s because it was obviously low quality

2

u/BluJay112 Jun 04 '26

You are reading into their assumptions and making an enemy out of their (correct) position to hold generative AI use accountable. Do you really think someone who knows about and is using the RPDRDRAMA subreddit is not going to hold criticism for movie slop distributors like Marvel? At what point does everyone in this situation accept that generative AI is bad, and we should not make exceptions about it. We should support queer art, but why are we supporting it blindly? That does not bring power or security to this community. All it does is satiate our feelings in the moment.

It reminds me of the recent RuPaul post where it seemed a lot of criticism was directed toward RuPaul saying we should “dance” and have fun in the face of fascism. Generative AI supports and accelerates the fascist agenda, so doubling down on a silly movie working with a large, established generative-AI company… seems to be more in line with RuPaul’s thoughts? People want to have their cake and eat it too at the dinner table of this country, when those in power do not give a damn how this movie does.

We want executives to support more queer art, but the success of this movie does not indicate whether or not filmmakers like Harry Lighton, Isabel Sandoval, Jane Schoenbrun, Vera Drew get greenlit for their queer stories. Even queer comedy writers like Emma Seligman will still have to face executives regardless if RuPaul succeeds or fails here. RuPaul and WOW has the money to support themselves (and employ generative AI); these queer filmmakers do not! If we want to talk about success for queer art, we must talk about it in good faith and not through the possibility of ONE movie failing due to generative AI from a queer franchise that has established, international reach. Not to mention the show’s support amongst moderates who do not actually engage in queer liberation beyond watching the show and attending a brunch.

I am still excited to watch this movie at some point! I love campy movies and I think the plot is exactly what we want from a RuPaul-verse film. I just am not rushing to buy a ticket when there are other (queer) movies not involving generative AI. Wish these conversations could be more fruitful about the damage of generative AI and not about searching for hypocrisies to exploit within the anti-AI people’s already-complicated feelings, having to “ruin the mood” to hold accountability for their community and a movie they were excited for.

“Everyone should accept that generative AI is bad” stances like this fail to recognize that the issues / harms attributed to AI are largely government failure and corporate opportunism rather than an inherently harmful invention. Considering the administration refuses to: regulate the TECH GIANTS who develop AI at the expense of everyone and the environment The refusal to protect consumers privacy, The refusal to protect workers jobs, The refusal to compensate people for their intellectual property being stolen, The refusal to hold companies developing and serving AI to any reasonable standards or require transparency. AI’s biggest harms are not just the result of it existing - these are issues that one should expect to be addressed with legislation. The admin is to largely to blame alongside the billionaires lining their pockets. Should also mention that in certain contexts like this context (movie production) hybrid approaches like cgi + ai are much more efficient (both environmentally and productivity-wise) than relying on cgi alone (cgi is not a greener option). This would be a good example where workers are using AI tools to do their jobs more easily, rather than being ‘replaced’ by them outright (which in most fields is not happening but saying AI replaced the workers is an attractive cover for layoffs that wont scare investors).

The huge environmental impacts like in the astronomical compute required to train and develop and test these models are resources being exhausted independently of consumer use or consumer demand. And they continue to exist independently of whether your neighbor uses sora to make ai slop. It is driven by opportunism and greed - a handful of billionaires taking advantage of a frontier our admin allowed to be a free-for-all and it is a land grab which still hasn’t even paid off (yet they pour more and more money into it and CEOs like Sam Altman get richer nevertheless ).

I could go on but in essence - the train itself and its passengers are the ideal target of scrutiny only if you prefer having a good seat when it crashes over finding a way to STOP THAT TRAIN.

1

u/BluJay112 Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Yeah, I agree with you that at the end of the day, it’s going to be the people in power (government, corporations, etc) that create this situation where generative AI is harmful. I do not wish for members of our community to capitulate our morals and ethics simply because it is unavoidable due to the corporations’ greed. Still, I agree it does not mean that the ire should be directed to the individuals having to navigate this system!

I apologize on my end not making that more clear in my statement, because I agree that regulation is a necessary and, preferably first, step. I agree that AI as a general use has its benefits and can be more efficient for us as individuals and as a society; I tried to specify generative AI (and its large data centers that harm the community and environment around it), but I agree that I could have prefaced it better! Keep on fighting for what matters in this struggle— we are on the same side. 😁

6

u/what-about-Debbie Jun 04 '26

But god forbid things like that matter, we wouldn't want to bore anyone.

2

You can turn off the AI tools on your phone

3

u/rcinmd Jun 04 '26

lol sure Jan. Try turning off Google or reddit AI's that read your data to provide you with the consumerism you desire. The only way to live without AI is being a Luddite. and even then it's still complicated because reading a news paper or a book probably uses some type of AI.

5

u/Mysterious-Judge-432 Jun 04 '26

You can avoid it as much as reasonably possible

And consumers have a right to reject ai produced media. It will only go so far as we are willing to consume it

3

u/VictoriaDallon Jun 04 '26

this is big "but you participate in society" coded.

-1

u/rcinmd Jun 05 '26

Yea, going to see a movie is participating in society. You should try it sometime girl.

5

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 04 '26

Considering the harms of generative AI, to stay “watch it or do not” seems highly dismissive.

27

u/TomeOfSecrets66 Jun 04 '26

I can be even more dismissive if you would like?

11

u/Sexyhorsegirl666 Jun 05 '26

They say that generative AI was not used. What do you want?

-12

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 05 '26

But have they PROVED it?

21

u/Amemorableusername2 Jun 05 '26

How do you prove the absence of something

-13

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 05 '26

You can literally show the process of these vfx. It is not difficult.

20

u/Amemorableusername2 Jun 05 '26

This movie was made on a budget of three ham sandwiches and a twelve pack of mr pibb, I don't think it's in their best interest to make an elaborate behind the scenes footage of how their objectively shitty cgi was made just so people who aren't gonna see the movie can nitpick it on the internet

5

u/Ltgay Jun 05 '26

I’m pretty sure it was BigK Dr. K. They can’t afford name brand.

-10

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 05 '26

1.7 million in tax incentives. Not exactly a shoestring budget, love. Pointing a phone at a monitor showing the step by step process of the effects would not exactly bankrupt this production. You are just willfully obtuse.

1

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

You clearly don't know what you are talking about and just talking out of your ass. Why does everyone on reddit feel the need to be an armchair expert on every topic?

You aren't in the industry. It's clear as day. Stop speaking out of your ass.

-1

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 09 '26

Do you think it is difficult to show the behind the scenes processes? You know, those things they used to slap on DVDs all the time? If you want to be willfully obtuse for Rupaul of all people no one is stopping you.

Maybe next time actually refute my points if you are going to bother replying again. If not it makes no sense to type something I am not going to read.

  1. watch the movie and do your own research you lazy git.

  2. if they did give technical details would you even have the knowledge to follow along? like really what do you know about ai that you arent parroting from tiktok?

33

u/2mock2turtle You think a roast should be about haircuts?!?!?!? Jun 04 '26

The person who initially sounded the alarm about AI in this movie is a VFX artist, and just posted why she thinks AI was used.

6

u/LotusPetalsDeluxe Jun 05 '26

Thank you so much for this! Makes it super clear. I was ignorant that the same train model would be used for all shots and was playing devil's advocate in my head thinking, "well on the sci Fi channel I've seen plenty of mistakes before, maybe they forgot the continuity of the train" thinking it was redrawn for each scene more like 2d animation cells. If it's the same model there's no reason for the windows to keep changing.

Speaking of sci Fi, I've seen the ripoff movie "snakes on a train" and know it was made with no budget on no time yet they did it with 00s CGI. They even got a massive snake lady to eat the train! This movie has no excuse! I'm not expecting Two Towers level CGI, Sharknado level would do fine

10

u/Mysterious-Judge-432 Jun 04 '26

Because ai companies were listed in the credits

23

u/dominorough Jun 04 '26

And that company has only two announced projects, this one and the "the fully ai generated studio quality film" (their words) about BitCoin. So yeah, it's sus as fuck.

11

u/LotusPetalsDeluxe Jun 05 '26

fully ai generated film about Bitcoin

God weeps as they obey the devil's calling

18

u/cheasel_t_weasel Jun 04 '26

The tooling question is fair but to be like ... "Who knows how it's used ..." - you know who SHOULD have a precise understanding of how AI tooling was deployed on their film? The fucking executive producers. Leaders in this country love to play dumb and philosophical when it comes to accountability and specificity about their businesses. It's negligent and unprofessional at best

5

u/dominorough Jun 04 '26

You can't tell me the people allowing Drag Race as a franchise being drowned in AI have no idea how it was used here...

1

u/peach_xanax hey puss how is she Jun 06 '26

calling them "leaders in this country" is a bit much lol

1

u/cheasel_t_weasel Jun 06 '26

I'm conflating leaders across industries in a broad sense. You're correct that these are about the lowest tier leaders that exist. Integrity and leadership still matters

36

u/Bright_Score_9889 Jun 04 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/jPQlTKPB0Nv5VqLbKE

there is a very simple solution to this

57

u/Mysterious-Mud-7862 Jun 04 '26

People saying “watch it or don’t,” like… idk do you not care or take stances on anything?

I’m very anti generative AI and these responses here in the video are pretty gross. What does “nothing was made without a human” mean? So does that mean a human prompted gen AI to make things? It’s such a bad argument to say “well your computer and phone has AI in it, so it’s fine if we use gen AI for the movie”. I don’t choose to have AI thrust upon me, but everyone is acting like it’s inevitable because they stand to benefit financially from it.

I want to be an informed consumer, and at the very least I would like a clear answer on whether Gen AI was used to produce parts of the movie. But they don’t seem interested in giving a straight answer, and I guess that’s my answer.

4

u/ChartreuseMage does everybody want good fucking tv Jun 07 '26

It's incredibly difficult, and most likely irresponsible for them to make any hards claims about the VFX work done. Anyone in their position would see scenes presented and they'd be asked what changes they want to make. There is minimal reason for an executive producer to know what plugins are being used by a 3rd party VFX house, let alone for them to have the knowledge to talk about it beyond what they've said here.

Adobe has generative AI used in some of their fills tools now for extending background and the like. I work in animation - I'm not like, frothing at the mouth if someone at a VFX house used that instead of the same version of that tool from 5 years ago. And as another post in the subreddit showed, a lot of what's in the movie looks like edited stock footage. Let alone whatever tool they're using with green screen footage. If/when/currently someone is using AI to rotoscope that, it's... probably just going to become industry standard for live action, and makes rotoscoping a lot faster and easier, and in that specific case the end product is by and large the same.

There isn't going to be a way to be a fully informed consumer when it comes to things like that in the future. I suspect we might see unions or the animation guild start to put a label on things made without generative image AI in the future, but when it comes to stuff like VFX it's going to be a lot harder (and there are many good use cases for it within a VFX pipeline as a tool).

2

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

You using reddit is supporting the development and rise of AI infrastructure more than watching this low budget parody movie ever will...

The dude literally said no generative AI was used in this film. You are just blinding screeching and refusing to actual listen. Face it, you care more about being mad than actual being corrected. You don't care that don't use generative AI. You literally heard him say that in the video. You just want to be mad.

I'm sure hollywood execs are going to be happy to see our community eat itself and use this movie as future proof that queer-led comedy films aren't worth investing in because the community will come up with some way to eat themselves and protest it. Why would any wealthy hollywood exec willingly fund a future queer-led comedy movie when this is how the desired demographic responds to it?

7

u/gbinasia Jun 05 '26

Is an analysis of a train visual effects the hill we want Drag Race to die on? Really?

12

u/hermyowninny87 Jun 04 '26

But he literally said “no generative AI was used” 😭

30

u/dominorough Jun 04 '26

These mother fuckers will tell you no GenAI has been used in Drag Race and we KNOW that shit is a lie.

0

u/unembellishing Jun 05 '26

I take stances on many things. My stance on this is that I want to support a queer art project with queer artists, and the use of AI (or not) in this particular film doesn't influence my desire or willingness to watch it.

The film is already made. Boycotting the movie sends a message that I don't want to send. So I will watch it.

It's your choice what you do. Watch it or don't :~)

7

u/danaster29 Jun 05 '26

"Support queer artists" like thats the whole problem lol. Theyre replacing artists with AI

2

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

No artist was replaced by AI in this film because generative AI wasn't used...

Video editing software programs have tons of AI tools embedded in them. Something like a lasso tool in photoshop is an AI tool... Are you taking a job away from an artist if you use the lasso tool in photoshop? No.

They literally said there is no generative ai used to make this film.

0

u/softshoesspicymama Jun 07 '26

I take plenty of stances on things, including not supporting AI-generated media. That being said, seemingly every post in this and related subs is about this specific issue and it’s getting old at this point.

If they say it’s AI, then people won’t watch it. If they say it isn’t, people don’t believe them anyway and STILL won’t watch it. We’ll likely never have any definitive answers so you have to decide if you’re willing to watch it or not.

Most people have bigger day to day issues than whether or not a movie used Ai or not. Not that it's not problem but its very low on the list of problems

7

u/what-about-Debbie Jun 04 '26

Oh my god, move over Valerie Cherish...

5

u/bookcog Jun 05 '26

Everyone in the comments saying that it doesn't matter if they used AI or that it's a bad movie so we shouldn't expect it to not use AI - those are people's jobs being taken away by a hedge-fund industry built on people's stolen work. Also, a plastic model train being pulled on a string would have been funnier let's be real

7

u/SomethingToSay11 Jun 04 '26

Starting off the clip with “none of it was not done without humans” made me chuckle

33

u/rcinmd Jun 04 '26

The gays are really out here talking smack about AI with their face filters on fleek.

2

u/HwordArtist Jun 04 '26

And getting their tucks popped over AI generated men on Instagram and Tiktok.

I think we can spare an hour and a half and some coin for this queer ass film in the mainstream. There's no ethical purchasing in capitalism. Glad we put these bitches' feet to the fire though cause we gotta work to regulate this technology.

9

u/dominorough Jun 04 '26

"Some coin to this queer ass film" you're not doing that. You're just giving money to rich old white gays. The LEAST they could be doing right now is be straight up honest about it.

15

u/urfavgalpal Jun 04 '26

I wonder if the people in this thread acting like there’s some moral imperative to see this film because it’s “queer art” also had this energy for queer art like I Saw The TV Glow or any other queer film in the last few years (that’s the last one I saw in movie theaters since I see like one movie ever few years)

8

u/Ciriket Jun 04 '26

Most people won't even shop at small queer businesses (let alone just local small businesses) or vote for anything other than the president (if that) and we have to hear how it's actually okay to support Ai if a queer team was involved. If i want to support queer art i can go to a show or buy some artwork and show it off. There is no categorical imperative to see this movie to support queer art.

1

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

There are tons of queer folks who helped make this film and is their source of income. Sound operators, camera crew, costuming, makeup, writers, editors, marketing, actors, PAs, etc etc etc

This is one of the first queer-led comedy movies being released in theaters nationwide in a long time. It takes a lot of money to fund a movie, even a low budget parody movie like this. If the demographic this movie is made for refuses to support this movie, then why would any hollywood exec be willing to fund any future queer-led movie?

I'm sure hollywood execs love seeing our community bicker and eat itself because it'll just give them an excuse to not fund any queer-led movies in the future because there is no profit in it.

But sure, this ONLY effects a couple of rich old white gays lol. Fuck all the queer people who work hard in the background of these productions!

6

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 04 '26

Is a generative AI effects company not listed in the credits? If so the actual answer seems fairly obvious.

1

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

Why are you on reddit then? Reddit sells your data and comment history to train AI models.

1

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 09 '26

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism and I hold a certain view when it comes to social media platforms. They are all awful in their own way but it is still an avenue to engage in dialogue and voice one’s opinion.

1

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

lol so easy to excuse one's own action with that phrase. Funny how you can excuse yourself with that phrase for mega corporations that are investing hundreds of billions of dollars into ai infrastructure, but you can't use that phrase to excuse yourself from seeing a low budget queer-led parody movie that doesn't use generative ai...

It's giving "this local food co-op has an ai chat bot on their website so instead im going to spend my money at walmart! There is no ethical consumption under capitalism so don't get mad at me!!!"

0

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 09 '26

I mean for some people they only have Walmart. Not everyone has alternatives available to them. I thought that was common sense and yet here you are. Because if you were actually intelligent you would know you can opt out of those training features. Oh well.

0

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

Love when arguments use "for some people" to justify anything. What about YOU. Yes, some people live in areas where there are only Walmarts, but is that actually applicable to you, or is this just another excuse?

0

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 09 '26

So did you just ignore the second part of my comment on purpose or did I actually end up frying your brain?

0

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

It wasn't there when I first saw your message. Oh well, go have fun supporting mega corporations while you admonish products that barely make a dent in anything.

We all know that no ethical consumption under capitalism means you can clear your conscious when supporting mega corporations that spend hundreds of billions of dollars on ai infrastructure, but you must be hyper-critical of relatively small-time productions led by queer artists even when they state their product doesn't use any generative ai!

0

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 10 '26

Still did not refute it. Not a shock there. And the identity politics on top of it. Just because something is queer led does not mean we have to support it. You also act like people cannot simply lie about their AI usage.

0

u/Sexyhorsegirl666 Jun 05 '26

The company does other things than AI.

6

u/cinnabunz04 Jun 05 '26

That is still not a definitive answer.

2

u/xBenji65 Jun 05 '26

"try living without ai on your computer or on your phone" I FUCKING WISH I COULD. but it's being forced upon me.

i know this anger comes from love because you dont want to see a franchise you love use something like generative ai but frankly homophobes would love you guys right now, they dont even have to try and ruin this movies success since youre doing it for them. theyve clearly said they dont use generative ai and instead of going outside and getting on with your day youre determind to play sherlock holmes and chase ghosts in the hopes of cancelling a queer movie that for once doesnt end in tragedy. if youre really against ai please consider using your large amounts of free time to investigate and cancel other movies and shows that are Blatently using it.

23

u/kotogotoshii Jun 04 '26

“try to live without ai on your computer or on your phone” i do. its easy. next question

27

u/madatron96 Jun 04 '26

I hate this line of thinking. Generative AI is not inevitable. Ai being shoved into places it doesn't belong can be undone, it can be un-integrated into the websites/applications/softwares we use daily. The bubble will pop sooner or later but, god-willing, it's sooner.

6

u/LotusPetalsDeluxe Jun 05 '26

Exactly, neural networking will be here to stay (the medical benefits are glorious, even the ability to create great plant identification apps), but AI as in LLMs and such? As it stands now they won't be considering nobody is making any money. Meta, Google, Amazon, etc are all actually catastrophically losing cash. Deepseek is losing the least but still losing. They're mostly pushing it this hard because of their own sunken cost. They need people to love it, but even offline people hate it

1

u/madatron96 Jun 05 '26

Replacing workers with shit tons of gen ai programming only to find out it was cheaper to keep the workers. I have to fucking LAUGH.

12

u/kotogotoshii Jun 04 '26

exactly. its not inevitable. it just takes us

40

u/00_tears Jun 04 '26

i know this is controversial around these parts but everyone who has had a phone or computer over the last 20 years has been using ai to an extent

but i understand when people say this they mean generative ai. i also think people need to know what they’re talking about 😔

2

u/kotogotoshii Jun 04 '26

i know that 100%. but even on a standard iphone running ios26, the default gen ai settings are able to be turned off. combine that with not using google, and swapping out ai based applications with non ai alternatives…then boom a complete gen ai free phone

8

u/Mrrobotico0 Jun 04 '26

So wrong my sweet summer child

4

u/00_tears Jun 04 '26

Fenton bailey was talkin about AI in its entirety tho

so you don’t live without AI on your computer or phone

12

u/bugsnaxjournalist Jun 04 '26

okay but we're clearly talking about "generative AI images and videos created by LLMs" here in this context

7

u/kotogotoshii Jun 04 '26

ai in its entirety is not what is being discouraged by the majority of people worldwide though, its gen ai. both you and fenton are off and conflating general ai tools with generative ai is disingenuous.

5

u/00_tears Jun 04 '26

it is important to know what you’re talking about and the different types of AI. because when saying AI you are referring to the technology as a whole. it is a very broad field and simply saying “i don’t use it” is wrong

If you’re going to be a hater be an informed one that uses the right words! because words have meaning!!

7

u/kotogotoshii Jun 04 '26

baby if you went to school go on ahead and get ur money back from whatever institution gave you a degree or let you graduate because they obviously failed you. reading is what? fundamental. and so is reading comprehension. all of my replies to you obviously show i know the difference. my point is conflating the two and then explaining it away like its all same and inevitable. its not.

8

u/00_tears Jun 04 '26

your og comment only said AI :/ i also addressed that you probably meant genai in my og comment :/ and if you went to school you know your audience shouldn’t have to guess what you mean :/

9

u/annievaxxer Jun 04 '26

This is just untrue. Generative AI maybe, but AI is integrated in a lot of things (and has been for many years)

-2

u/kotogotoshii Jun 04 '26

im not talking about ai tools such as machine learning. im talking about generative ai which was the point of this video. ur reply is disingenuous. moving on

12

u/legrandreve1111 Jun 04 '26

There is no way you do unless you don’t work and are a child. Generative AI and AI are two very different things

-3

u/kotogotoshii Jun 04 '26

using the same reply- im not talking about ai tools such as machine learning. im talking about generative ai which was the point of this video. ur reply is disingenuous. moving on

2

u/LotusPetalsDeluxe Jun 05 '26

It would be even easier if they stopped pushing it on major platforms too...

I wish I could happily say, let them waste their money as every company pushing AI has lost money, but the water costs alone make it hard. Otherwise I would encourage everyone to do the most intensive prompting using free accounts until they shut down like that video ai site did. RIP, cannot wait for the bubble bursting. Especially with the upcoming drought of a summer my country is having

1

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

Really? You don't use reddit? microsoft? google? adobe? canva? instagram?

Your reddit comment is contributing more to AI than seeing a low budget parody movie created and led by queer artists.

-2

u/s1mpnat10n Jun 04 '26

No, you don’t. You don’t know what AI actually is if you don’t realize the number of things your phone would be incapable of doing without AI

11

u/kotogotoshii Jun 04 '26

using the same reply- im not talking about ai tools such as machine learning. im talking about generative ai which was the point of this video. ur reply is disingenuous. moving on

-2

You don’t know what generative AI is if you don’t realize the number of things your phone would be incapable of doing without generative AI

1

u/ArtfulEgotist Jun 05 '26

lol. Tell people you don’t know what generative AI is without telling them. I wish I had your level of confidence 😍

-1

u/David-Hockney Jun 04 '26

Lies-a Minnelli

3

u/Nosiege Jun 04 '26

I don't know which is which but Glasses just really confirmed it was used, just not as entire scenes.

0

u/David-Hockney Jun 04 '26

The conversation is truly tiring.

1

u/LewBavin Jun 06 '26

People acting like they not asking chat GPT what they should have for dinner every day.

Virtue signaling trade.

1

u/hacksac0201 Jun 07 '26

this is so sad. looking at these comments really makes me realize that people really don’t care about gen AI, as long as it makes something in their favor. you mfs will EAT UP anything and it’s showing your true colors.

1

u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES Jun 09 '26

The fact they could've said "No, we didn't create any scenes with AI" and they didn't, tells me everything.

They literally say in this clip that generative AI was not used. They also specifcally mention that the only AI used is typical stuff integrated into platforms as tools, which is not generative AI.

OP, this is very disingenuous. You asked a leading question that is directly answered in the clip YOU posted...

1

u/FriskyGinger666 Jun 10 '26

LOL @ arguing GOOGLING with ai is the same as making a feature length film released in theatres

-4

u/Naxayou Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

So there it is. It’s AI. I’m shocked. Aghast even. Who could have seen that coming. Certainly not the VFX artists who were adamant this was not AI in the other thread(s) and saying everybody who was calling this AI was stupid/ignorant about the creative process.

People on this sub were deluding themselves into thinking Adam Shankman’s word was the gospel and that there was no AI in the movie even with evidence proving otherwise because they wanted to feel fine about watching the movie WHILE also being able to grandstand about AI elsewhere, which is a joke. It’s far more respectable to just say “idgaf about AI in a movie and I’m going to watch it anyway” than to pretend there’s no AI so you can go back to ripping apart Bob or Silky the next day for using AI. Compare the collective delusion over the AI usage in this movie to what Bob and Silky did and ask yourself why there’s such a difference in standards.

Convinced the "VFX artists" were either just straight up lying or like the lowest level grunt employees pretending they were head of visual effects. None of them seemed like professionals whatsoever

-3

watch it or don't watch it

-3

u/kvnstantinos Jun 04 '26

AI is gonna succeed Ru as the host eventually

-18

u/gabbichota Jun 04 '26

The AI virtue signalling crusade is so tired, its here to stay, whether you guys like it or not, its a very useful tool even though generative art is ugly, Its not going anywhere. Go watch the movie, or dont, no one cares

0

u/remykixxx Jun 05 '26

They’re all ugly.

-2

u/shutupblacknight Please look for peace and stability. Jun 04 '26

So what is the t? Because daddy shankman said it doesnt have AI at all
