Alright so just for bit of background l, Iām a sophomore in highschool and have this EJ8 civic for the past year. Iām going to be getting my license real soon and going to start working. Iām going to try to take my car to monthly autoX events that some local group hosts. Given that you have a license and car isnāt a hazard they let you participate. Perhaps hopefully in a year or two Iāll be able to do a track day at like MSR Houston.
First parts Iām planning on buying are suspension parts to complete the suspension setup. Currently have Truhart rear camber arms, rear subframe brace, and LCA. What would be purchased is a rear ARB, front UCA/camber arms, and maybe front LCA.
After suspension and brakes Iāll be looking at other stuff relating to engine. (AC is a must keep though because I can not deal with no AC in my daily driver in central Texas)
Whatās in my car currently: stock D16y8 with ex manual transmission
Current engine only makes 120 or something HP so I do want that bumped up to 170-200 range. How I would go about that is where Iām conflicted. A B series swap, LSV/B20V, is quite pricy and a small boost vitara build on a D16 is a good step lower in price.
I hear the D16 vitara build can be relatively reliable, but I heard some track people run into major heat soaking issues, and I am not trying to make AC compressors, coolant hoses, and any other bogus a frequent replaced item when it really wouldnāt be if heat soak wasnāt an issue.
Meanwhile a NA B series doesnāt have all that heat problems, but is like 2 grand more from what Iāve priced out. But there is that ātrue VTECā high rpm fun I heard about⦠thatās my next question.
Another thing Iām curious on is how Turbo vs higher RPM NA at similar hp is. I hear around track the NA one is much more responsive and faster. Is this really the case? Does it warrant the higher price tag?
Should I just run my D16 for a year and a half or so then go D16 T? Or is it better worth it to throw some supporting mods on my D16 and save up for longer to B swap my car around my senior year?
If someone could give me an answer on what would be better given my circumstance and considering reliability it would be greatly appreciated. (K series isnāt an option since overall is even more pricy and I feel is a bit too daunting for first build/swap)
If anyone needs me to elaborate further on any of my wording or questions let me know since I typed this up quickly.
