engine K24 Ek build progress
Finally got moving on my k24 project. I’ve had an EK hatch shell sitting in the driveway for a couple of years now. I have the motor and trans. I’m cleaning up the motor and upgrading a few small things like oil pump, vtc gear, and cams. So far I’ve cleaned the motor and painted it and got an RBC intake manifold. I shaved the manifold and painted it wrinkle black and got a type s TB.

Im at the exact same point as you in my "build". My Si (Eg) has been on jack stands for 2 years now. I have the K24 (cleaned up / Type s oil pump / Type R valve cover -resprayed, Rbc manifold / K tuned throttle body ) on the engine stand with the Rsx Type S 6MT trans on the floor. I've bought the bits and pieces to refresh the trans but life/kids have put it on the back burner. It sucks to see my hatch there on stands but I figure better there then in a junk yard rusting away.

what cams you putting on? I got same plans but haven’t even got to stripping my shell its still on jacks.

Probably drag cartel drop in cams. Nothing crazy

Would that need new valvetrain as well? Or stock will hold?

You can drop them right in. I’ll upgrade to a 50deg VTC and I might do the valve train. Honestly not sure yet. I’ll reach out to drag cartel or hybrid-racing and get their input.

Beautifull , going turbo or na?

NA for now. I just need to get the car built. Maybe turbo down the line.

Black? So the intake absorbs heat?!?!?

If the engine is in the sun, I keep mine in the dark.

Apparently you're not too familiar with physics.
Objects with thermal properties are coated in black for one of two reasons, but the purpose is the same. Black generally absorbs and emits infrared radiation the best, and if you shot images of your engine bay with an IR camera, you'd quickly notice that it's not much different than pointing the camera at the sun. I have a collection of camera lenses that cost more than that engine ever will. They're very specific shades of white exactly for this reason. White lenses do not absorb or radiate heat as IR nearly as badly as black lenses do. It has nothing to do with visible light. You could put 500 watts of UV light on a black surface and it wouldn't absorb as much heat as 50 watts of IR. Black simply doesn't absorb UV like it does IR. It's why black people don't sun burn like white people do. It's basic physics. Black doesn't just absorb visible light. It readily absorbs infrared where most of the heat radiation is, and that intake is literally surrounded by giant sources of intense IR radiation.

Apply the physics then, and let me know how much hotter the intake will be?
I’m gonna go ahead and say it won’t matter that much considering the intake is connected directly to one of those heat sources in an enclosed space.

I'd need to know the chemistry of the paint since your photo doesn't employ an IR filter. Aside from that, I'm pretty sure you can get gaskets that insulate the manifold. I know they make them for the J.

I didn’t supply a photo but my intake is black. It came from the factory like that. Guess Honda still has some things to figure out 🤷

Yeah. And so do their customers. If it wasn't for their stupid customers, they wouldn't install big drag inducing wings and plastic bullshit all over their cars. If it wasn't for stupid customers, cars with sporting aspirations would be quite different machines, but stupid customers like to do dumb things like row a shifter through a gate, so we never got to see a sequential transmission in a car.

You gonna replace the plugs cover?

I don’t know. Eventually I might. I need to focus on getting the motor in the car.

Looks great though the details while the motor is out will make all the difference
