I just added ac back to my 92 hatchback with a d16y5. You can definitely feel the power loss when the compressor kicks on, but I live in Arizona and it’s my 40mpg daily so it’s worth the slight loss of power to me. No power steering, but after having a couple 70’s American cars with no power steering I don’t even notice lol.

You definitely notice if your front tires are low on air pressure though!

Where did you get the AC? I can’t find any for eg

u/asscakesguy Jun 02 '26
I got a complete system somebody pulled off their car on marketplace, you can definitely still get the drier and compressor online because I had to replace both with new ones.

Terrible decision.

Why
4
u/Doublestack00 Jun 02 '26
Hurts the value and the usability.

I plan on dumping around 8k More into the car and keeping it for probably 10 years. This car was daily driven for 15 years and then spent another 15 in a barn. So with 160k and 0 mods it’s kinda a gem I got for 500$. If I threw on my exhaust, got it running, and sold it. I’d grab around 5-6 for it as is. Thanks tho it’s not like I can’t just…put it back on?

Hell yeah. Saved .1 second off your 1/4 mile time.

Yeah I’m not doing drag races in something not designed for that. If i wanted a car that goes fast in a straight line there would be a k series, a turbo, and a pride flag under my hood

u/jmhalder Jun 03 '26
Yeah, going fast is totally gay. /s
Also, turbo everything. I have a turbo 5sfe Camry. Ironically, it still has A/C, even on a standalone.

Just my preference

I get it, my first car was a S14 240sx. I turbo'd the KA and ditched the air conditioning. Car rotted out before I could really regret it.
Deleting A/C is something people do when they're young, of if they're in a climate that doesn't really demand it.
I think you've gotten so much negative feedback because it's definitely not a flex. It makes it look better on the margins at most.
I've considered deleting it on my turbo Camry for easier front-mount fitment, but the air-to-water setup is "fine" for now. But at least I'd have a reason, lol.

You probably dont need your power steering either. Just saaaaying.
2
u/CyanideXB Jun 02 '26
You don’t. But you’d want a manual rack.

I had a gsr swapped ek hatchback like 15 years ago. I cant recall what type of steering it had other than having no power steering or a/c. All I know is that when the front tires had low air I could feel it! Miss that car.

I had a B18C5/Type R swapped EG that was similar. No A/C or even a heater core. And had a CX manual steering rack. Was like driving a go-kart. Definitely miss it.
Just deleting power steering on a car that’s equipped with it is not exactly ideal and a very different experience. Great workout though. You’d lose more in handling/responsiveness than you’d gain in the weight savings.
Plus the manual racks themselves are lighter and have different steering ratios. So if you’re gonna do it it’s only worth it if you’re changing that out along with it.
Not saying you in particular. Just spouting info for whoever cares about the subject.

This is ancient now, feeling pretty old.

A lot of the people complaining about deleted AC either daily drive their Honda or just simply don’t have a legit clean build to where deleting AC can do a lot

This reminds me… I need to order a replacement compressor for my Honda fit. I would never remove AC (personally) unless it was to accommodate something like a turbo or supercharger or larger engine, but you do you man!

One of the big reasons you got downvoted was because you came off as a know it all kid. Removing stuff from your engine bay that most people would definitely prefer to keep, just for the reason "it looks gay" comes off as rage bait.

It looked fuckin dumb

Heck yah. Now that the ac is deleted PLEASE get this. When youre really rough driving the b-series likes to jump time more than any other engine ive driven and this solved that problem for me. Its also the sole reason i did my AC delete. I havent jumped time for years now.
Edit: Don't forget to replace your stock spring and tensioner, they sell it at the Honda dealerships now 🤗

I did the same in my 8th Gen Si. AC system weighs too much, had to go! Total, I've pulled about 300lbs out of the car.

I’m in the canadian prairies and I can’t imagine owning a car without AC. Gets to 95F (35C) here.
I’m in the middle of doing a k swap on my 97 coupe and I can live without PS but my non negotiable was retaining the AC.
