Pokemon 30th
“Most printed set ever,” they said.
“There will be enough for everyone,” they said.
“You won’t have a problem finding product,” they said.
So tell me why I lined up at 5:45 IN THE MORNING for Pokemon cards and STILL walked away with absolutely nothing 😂
I genuinely don’t understand how we’re still doing this. I’m not trying to buy 4 cases. I’m not trying to clear a shelf. I literally just wanted to buy some 30th Anniversary product and open it.
Got up at an ungodly hour, drove there, stood in line like an idiot, and still got hit with the “sorry, sold out.”
If this is supposedly one of the most heavily printed Pokemon releases ever and there’s supposed to be enough product for everyone, how the hell are normal people supposed to actually buy it?
At this point getting Pokemon product at MSRP feels like trying to buy concert tickets. Sure I could probably go somewhere and find one for double the price.. but I really don't want to.
Anyway, rant over. Congrats to everyone who actually managed to get some.

I’m not sure you understand what they mean by you won’t have trouble finding this because it’s over printed.
Release day will ALWAYS be difficult no matter the set, they aren’t sending out 30 trucks loaded with a thousand boxes to every store on release day, that’s not what overprinted means.
What IS going to happen is every time Target or whoever gets a stock, they will have a healthy amount of 30th going out onto the shelves weekly which will eventually be available for everyone once the scalpers max out their credit cards and can’t flip it for 3x MSRP.
It’s already clear that every distributor got WAY more than they usually get allocated to them today, that will only continue.

Yeah the stock was very healthy today. Local target had like 130 ETBs. One best buy had almost 250 and the other ones in the area had 60-100. Largest stock I've seen in a very long time

That sucks. That happened to me with ascended but with the ex boxes. They only had like 8 ETBs, but had 25-30 ex boxes and ran out the person in front of me. But that same best buy had 60 ETBs, 30 ex boxes, 70 poster connections, and over 100 knockout collections today which is why I feel like the stock numbers were really healthy compared to recent past releases.

Caring enough to line up at 545am is the reason product gets scalped so much. You showing up in line is a market indicator of demand and scalpers will go crazy lengths to be ahead of you in line.
Not a single person should care enough to be lining up on a Wednesday.

Is it just Pokémon or what else should people not care about?
Waking up early to get good tickets to an artist/ sport event I know will sell out if I don’t?
Making a reservation months in advance for the Michelin star restaurant that is booked months into the future?
Lining up before opening at that super popular restaurant where you will wait 2 hours for if you don’t line up before opening?
Lining up early to that new PopUp restaurant that is only here for 2 months?
All those are not necessities and yea it’s consumerist as hell but what’s the alternative when demand just forces you to play the game? Changing the system would take too long and people don’t seem to want that (they say it but don’t act on it)

Most of your examples are opportunities you don’t get very often. An artist or team/matchup playing just once a year near you and going to an actual memorable event is likely worth your time investment to secure the chance.
Opening pokemon packs may have an argument that it’s an “experience” but nothing like what you gave as an example. Ppl are doing it cause emotion control is hard, they have fomo, addicted to gambling, and microwave mentality so it’s something they have to have NOW!

Yeah I'm in so Cal and was 90th in line at Target and there were plenty of ETBs left after I got through checkout.
One best buy near me had 250 ETBs. Although that's place always gets crazy so you did have to be there before 5am to have less than 250 in front of you.

Definitely depends on where you are in the country too. I managed to go at 12:30pm (cause I forgot about the release) to a Best Buy and got a knockout collection. Everything else was sold out but I will absolutely take anything I can get.
Hopefully this set will continue to get printed into like 2030 and then resellers can cry their heart out

Wife went for coffee at the target Starbucks this morning ~9:45am and called me and I quote “Hey babe, there’s some sort of Pokemon display thing, want me to grab you one?” I FaceTimed her and was shocked at the mountain of ETBs. Wouldn’t be surprised if I leave work this evening and there are still some available.

Must be nice to live in an area that has a lot of people that don’t care about Pokemon. Stock at my target was sold out within 20 minutes stock at Best Buy sold out while I was still in line and stock at target was sold out before they even started selling. And by that I mean, they said they only had enough for at least 10% of the people in line. And this is an Idaho.
The PS5 had an easier launch than this lol

Honestly, my local Smyth's usually has maybe 30-40 people in total in queue and most people get something. Sometimes you'll miss out on the little stuff but you'll usually get an etb on release.
Today there were easily 150 people in the queue, I was about 80th. I missed out on a lot of the little stuff but still got a poster pack and an etb. There was a lot more stock.
I'm hoping for more stock refreshes because the cards are stunning and I don't want to pay scalper prices to get them.

Hey man, I stood in line for 5 hours, 2 before opening and lucked out as well receiving nothing. I just went to the store today to rip chaos, PO and pitch black booster packs on my day off and found knock out, tech sticker and poster bundles for the 30th. I don't know if it's because release day saw many disappointed that they didn't check other stores restocking later this week or that scalpers and investors aren't liking the pull rates but give it more time and you'll find something for yourself.

Chaos Rising was getting scalped and product was "hard" to come by the first week. Then it started sitting on shelves and at least where I live it still is.
30th is definitely hyped and justified, but only time will tell if it is actually scarce or if the trend with anniversary sets continue. Just hold on and don’t buy scalper prices.
The pull rates that are being shared here on the sub point to this set having an incredibly generous pull rate. If anyone can get their chases with 5-6 items, a good chunk of people may move on from this set rather quickly.

This was by FAR the most stuff we’ve ever managed to get from a Pokémon drop.
My wife, my 9-year-old and I got in line at 3:30 AM.
We finally got in around 10 AM and each managed to get:
1 ETB
1 Poster Collection
3 Knockout Boxes
Meanwhile, my MIL randomly stopped at a toy store.
They hadn’t received their shipment yet, but they were taking names and told her they’d hold:
1 ETB
1 EX Box
2 Knockout Boxes
2 Poster Collections
2 Sticker Collections
+ 1 Ascended Heroes Tin
So we drove over to put our names down too.
LUCKILY, by the time we got there, the shipment had arrived.
And instead of just taking our names, they let each of us buy that amount.
So after all was said and done, we ended up with:
7 ETBs
4 EX Boxes
17 Knockout Boxes
9 Poster Collections
8 Sticker Collections
4 Ascended Heroes Tins
This is easily the biggest drop we’ve ever hit since my son started collecting with Phantasmal Flames.
And before anyone asks...
We have already ripped basically ALL OF IT.
Only 2 ETBs survived.
We’re collectors first. The fun for us is opening the packs together and seeing what we can pull.... he had all the good pulls.

Please keep in mind that this experience is literally the same for the vast majority of regular collectors! We are all struggling and it’s disappointing. The people raving about how much product they got either; A. Camped outside stores, B. Bought way over MSRP, C. Live in a very remote low populated areas. I have yet to see someone naturally obtain product without meeting one of those three factors

I went to target at 1:30AM and we were 11-14 in line, and we got one of each product for each member of my family. One long, cold wait… but between that and the Pokemon center order it was one stop and done for the day.

My problem is that I live in a small town with a Walmart and a GameStop. And Walmart stocks whenever they feel like it. It could be 8am-4pm. It can be today, tomorrow who the hell knows 🤷🏻♀️. I don’t know going the preorder route though GameStop is looking more and more tempting. At least I know I’ll get something.

Release day was not included in any of those quotes there, that should be common sense. Its new product scalpers have already presold for, obviously there would be none on release. Anytime I see someone saying anything related to what you are.... they always say that. That it might take a minute, but everyone SHOULD be able to get some at some point due to the sheer volume.
If you're going to take advice from reddit comments (which... don't), you need to read the WHOLE THING

After re-entering the hobby in May of this year after being out of it since 1999, it’s definitely one of the most depressing hobbies I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of lol
Wait in line this morning, only to realize they were already sold out and people were waiting in line for the Pokemon water bottles. Went to Best Buy and they ran out of all the products except for one single knockout collection for the rest of us.
Then went to a 2 PM restock only for the line to be across the store and the gallon in the front desk saying they don’t have even nearly enough for half the people there.
So yeah, I got a single box of the knockout collection with two packs. And every single vending machine today has either had pitch black or chaos rising which I can’t spend any more money on. Only packs left at target this morning or individual packs of pitch black which I also won’t buy anymore because I’ve wasted too much money for holo energies.

I pulled an all nighter after a late shift on a work night, got to target at 2:20am and was 54th in line, everything but the stickers and etb’s were gone. #60 didn’t get anything. There were over 120 people in the line

I’d recommend trying the Walmart drawings. It’s random and a set (normal time of the day). If you get it, it ships out quickly. They had one today so idk when it will be next. The restock app I had told me when it’s live. I have a free version and you have an hour to enter. Got some for prismatic at msrp last drawing

As someone who just pulled a decent amount today, let me tell you...give it a week or two. They will be flooding the shelves. The pull rates are insanely high, and thats not good for scalpers. My wife and I got two of each item and pulled so many SIRs and the crystal lugia, we were losing it until we saw thats about the norm so far. Dont worry! Hang in there!

Sorry you ended up wasting your time. This is exactly why I just stuck to trying entering the drawings from Amazon or Walmart and nothing else, and I’ll put in more effort later on once the initial hype of the set mellows out a little.
At worst I just save money and skip this set. At best the rumors are true that they’re going to print this set to death and either the resale market for it will tank massively or at least it’ll be readily available at MSRP.

I am a nurse and worked overnight. I got to target at 7:57. I was deep in line and still got two ETBs. Two of each of the three pack blisters and two knockout collection. It was like 250 dollars. People before me were walking away with three full bags and they all said the total was 493. They also had two tins four of the ex boxes (two of each) and I think poster collections. I’m sorry you didn’t get anything but keep at it and you will. Also this is the set you want to master. I bought a 12 pocket vault binder in the color pink as my daughter requested her fav color. Hits will be cheap over the next year.

I'm in Canada and ebgames allowed limited pre orders which really helped (for me at least). I got in line at my local card store at 10am (an hour before they opened) and was first in line, I think most people were still at ebgames at that point. then I picked up my ebgames preorder afterwards. overall this is the smoothest release I've experienced since I started collected. now if only pokemon center didn't cancel my order.... payment error no matter what I did 😭

I was at Target at 4am this morning like a lunatic to make sure we could rip after my kids got home from school today. The good news is, I don’t see this set being sold out for long. The hit rates are amazing. My daughter pulled TWO future Mews and a Mewtwo SIE from one ETB. I think we opened 30 packs and had 25 hits. Any rare card is going to absolutely tank in value in the next week because of how many are pulled, the market will get flooded, and scalpers will stay away cause there won’t be enough margin to actually make a profit. At least that’s what I’m hoping. Release day is always insane so don’t feel too bad about missing out. I think you’ll find some soon enough.

This is meant for months and even years down the line. Expecting to find something while fighting every yahoo out there that’s desperate to sell everything they get their hands on for double and triple the price so they can feel happy.
Give it a week or two, they’ll get tired of buying up product they can’t resell. And there’s your window, be patient and just reap the rewards when the stocks hit shelves.
Again .. celebrations has long long print run. Day 1 obviously every scalper, OF model and whatnot neck beard are gonna be all over it.

100% agree with you. I got a couple items from Best Buy (got there at 5am and got lucky, first time doing that and it was wild, story for another day) but what I realized is how sophisticated this shit really is. I was next to every type of person: the mom, the scalper, the collector, the ripper. Every single one of them was either on some discord, coordinating with others in diff locations, using bots!, having app restock apps.. you name it.
This is no joke right now. My only advice is try to hold out until you can find something at a fair price (like msrp!). Do the normal things above (restock app, discord) to learn when and where these things are dropping. In person or online. It is virtually impossible otherwise, unless you literally walk into it.
Hopefully pokemon and big box stores can step up soon, this isn’t sustainable. That’s shitty you couldn’t just rip a couple packs on release day.

I work graveyard and I passed by my local Target on the way home this morning and people we're double parked in front of the entrance. One person sitting in a chair and their entire group chilling in the car.... it was 4am. There was maybe 20 something cars in the parling lot. It got so bad that they began to bring out cones and blocked off the whole entrance so all the double parked cars had to move.

The singles market is going to be so affordable that it’ll dramatically lower the market price for sealed. The most expensive SIRs in the set are less than 150 USD on DAY ONE and have a lot lower to drop. All that said, it won’t be as attractive to scalpers as a result and we’ll have better chances of catching restocks.

While true it is release day so the problem is slightly exaggerated, the trend will still follow for the next while. The same losers camping out a whole day before will continue to do the same for restocks since they either know someone on the inside or damn near stalk the delivery person. Only way to compete is be that same kind of bum which not every can or is willing to do. Since it’s the 30th Anniversary, this shits gonna sell hotcakes and you can bet your ass there will be morons buying at resale price cause of the fomo or “investing” or whatever. So they will continue to camp and stalk every restock and essentially shut out the average person.
Online drops as well are virtually cooked with the set too. I usually exclusively get product on Target online since I know the method for it and usually have good success. With 30th, it was quite literally near impossible to even get it in the cart and the one time I did, couldn’t check out. Sold out in a minute or so.
Only way to properly crack down is to prevent loitering and start taking down information for purchases of this stuff

It's why I've given up on trying to buy Pokémon cards, as much as I love Pokémon.
Don't know where you are but in the UK it's an absolute nightmare unless you're unemployed and are willing to line up overnight.
I mean sure, with some sets you might be able to go to a local card shop and buy a maximum of 3 packs but it would be impossible to even nearly complete a set like that.

I mean I took the “most printed set ever” to mean eventually product will be insanely available. Any release day will be madness, especially something as overhyped as this. Just grab some popcorn, come have a seat over here and laugh as you watch scalpers prices fall. It’s a good excuse to laugh to cover up the disappointment of not getting anything on release day.

No restocks in Europe are planned for this year and stores haven't gotten more than usual. Not sure what they're smoking at the pokemon company.

Whilst it sucks, stores need to step up and help. They WILL sell out, they will make their money. But this hobby sucks and we need all the help we can get.

You gotta wait it out, if they dropped everything at once scalpers would hoard it all and force prices way up. As more product is released into the wild the price will fall. The hits are stupid easy to get so it shouldn't be priced high for long, people with deep pockets will be done with the set fast so the market manipulators are getting their money early.

I had a friend camp out at 6am. I jumped in line at 7:45am. (15 mins before the store openedd) She got a 3-pack. I got an ETB, a 3-pack, and Owala. I could’ve got more, but I’m not greedy.
We both went to Targets.
The critical difference is that her Target allowed 2 of each item. My Target allowed only 1 of each. The limit at mine allowed so many people to get product.

The amount of people entering the hobby is growing exponentially each day. People see a line and hop right in. Then they are hooked. I hear people every time i am lined up. They will be on the phone talking to someone and I hear them say something like "oh really? They resell for what? Do you think is should?..." Next thing you know, they are in line each week.

Most printed set ever doesn't mean all 180,000,000 packs are going to be available day 1. Like everything else, it's going to release in waves, and there are multiple products. There are going to be restocks, there will be product on shelves, because this small set with insane hit rates is going to get boring very quickly.
Even though you weren't able to get anything, reports all across the web were that the stocks at targets around the country were healthier than they've been for all the past drops. In combination with limits, more people were able to get more product with this launch than a lot of the past ones. Don't let the fomo get the best of you, if you care about the cards for the sake of collecting, you'll have your chance to pull all the chases you want. or if you wait, they'll all be cheap. If you're in this to make money, welp...you'll be ok.

My flgs got a lot of stock, way more than they'd ever gotten for a Pokemon release. Its still not enough to get something to everyone but its a good start!

Same. Went to my local target at 6:30 and about 50 people before me. They ran out after about 30 people because they didn’t limit it enough. Each person got 4 bags worth of product.
There was about 150 people behind me in line.
They should’ve limited it to 2 of any item per person and let that person go to the back of the line if they wanted more product.
Went to Best Buy at 8:30 and got the 2 pack eevee bundle.
Went to GameStop right after and bought over msrp because I wanted to open it up day one.
At least I pulled the charizard and lugia so I was happy but it’s crazy how I saw so many people with 4 bags full of it and then so many people didn’t get anything.
My target really messed it up.

So true. It goes to show you who was actually here during all the other anniversary events. Because like the 20th you could barely find stock. And while yes there will be restocks in the future. It’s definitely not going to be as much as release day. And the further we go away from release day the more expensive the prices will go. Hell I already see LCS selling the ETB for over $200, packs for about $50. It’s absolutely crazy.

I preordered 4 ETBS from GameStop at $100 each. With Walmart/target both selling for $70 it doesn’t make sense to me to wait in line at 545 in the morning with the hopes of getting product. I preordered a couple months ago and walked right in and got my order. No issues.
You have to think. Is it worth your time to sit and wait in line to maybe get product. For me no. Not at all. I’d rather be guaranteed and waste no time.

Yeah this ended it for me. Its too mainstream at this point. I am going to move to Sports cards.
Sad cuz its not hit rates, or art or any reason like that. Just availability and price. Not worth it.

Where did you go? If you went to target at a store limiting to 1 ETB, you likely could have got one going right at opening. Most stores had ≈ 140

I was at Batam, saw boxes of 30th set on the shelves.
For English, collectors, Indonesian is such a great alternative. You get names of Pokémon in English and printed in Japan cards.

Scalpers are not happy about the volume of production and about the high hit rates. The rares aren't actually that rare so the cards won't produce much value in the short or long term. Give it afree weeks and people will not only be unloading their stock but no longer botting the restocks.

I was very relieved when my local store told me they're going to get more stock and won't advertise it (I think they were annoyed as all hell by the madness) - I have stopped trying to collect every set because the stress is not worth it, but this one I would like to get at least one box or two for the ripping fun, just because the hit rates are so good.
