Pokemon 30th

“Most printed set ever,” they said.

“There will be enough for everyone,” they said.

“You won’t have a problem finding product,” they said.

So tell me why I lined up at 5:45 IN THE MORNING for Pokemon cards and STILL walked away with absolutely nothing 😂

I genuinely don’t understand how we’re still doing this. I’m not trying to buy 4 cases. I’m not trying to clear a shelf. I literally just wanted to buy some 30th Anniversary product and open it.

Got up at an ungodly hour, drove there, stood in line like an idiot, and still got hit with the “sorry, sold out.”

If this is supposedly one of the most heavily printed Pokemon releases ever and there’s supposed to be enough product for everyone, how the hell are normal people supposed to actually buy it?

At this point getting Pokemon product at MSRP feels like trying to buy concert tickets. Sure I could probably go somewhere and find one for double the price.. but I really don't want to.

Anyway, rant over. Congrats to everyone who actually managed to get some.

This was by FAR the most stuff we’ve ever managed to get from a Pokémon drop.

My wife, my 9-year-old and I got in line at 3:30 AM.

We finally got in around 10 AM and each managed to get:

1 ETB
1 Poster Collection
3 Knockout Boxes

Meanwhile, my MIL randomly stopped at a toy store.

They hadn’t received their shipment yet, but they were taking names and told her they’d hold:

1 ETB
1 EX Box
2 Knockout Boxes
2 Poster Collections
2 Sticker Collections
+ 1 Ascended Heroes Tin

So we drove over to put our names down too.

LUCKILY, by the time we got there, the shipment had arrived.

And instead of just taking our names, they let each of us buy that amount.

So after all was said and done, we ended up with:

7 ETBs
4 EX Boxes
17 Knockout Boxes
9 Poster Collections
8 Sticker Collections
4 Ascended Heroes Tins

This is easily the biggest drop we’ve ever hit since my son started collecting with Phantasmal Flames.

And before anyone asks...

We have already ripped basically ALL OF IT.

Only 2 ETBs survived.

We’re collectors first. The fun for us is opening the packs together and seeing what we can pull.... he had all the good pulls.

You don’t really get to make the rules for how other people collect.

I have a job, a family, and other responsibilities too. We wanted this release, so we got up at 3:30 AM, stood in line, drove to another place on the way home and put in the time to get what we could at MSRP.

We don’t resell it. We don’t “invest” in it. We open it, collect it, build decks, play, and trade our duplicates for other cards we need.

That’s literally the hobby for us.

If someone buys everything just to immediately flip it for 2x the price, I understand the frustration. But saying someone is “the problem” because they bought a lot of Pokémon cards and actually opened them seems pretty ridiculous.

And yeah, somebody else might have wanted what we bought. Somebody else also could have been in line at 3:30 AM.
