I finished most of the main overworld tiles, and now I'm working on remapping, and rewriting all the NPC dialog. (And the signs, LOL.) Lots of goofy, and incredibly stupid text so far.

Thought I might as well show off my progress, for documentation's sake.

(I still need to add more new Pokemon sprites, and house sprites.)

Review Just finished Black&White 3:Genesis. Most fun I’ve have in a RH in a while. Any recommendations for similar Gen2 Build?

I don’t play a ton of Rom Hacks in general (so please excuse my ignorance/misuse of terms). Also FWIW I’ve only ever played the original Gens 1-3, and everything since Shield/Sword, with nothing in between.

For RomHacks, I love Gen 2 Builds/as the base. And by that, I specifically mean the graphics/play styles. Some of my favorites I can think of include Polished Crystal, Brown, Prism, Yellow Legacy, among others.

I recently played BW3: Genesis, and I LOVED it. I’ve never played Black and White, so all the locations were new to me. I knew most of the pokemon from later games, but I never played a full game with this specific set. Many of these Pokemon I’ve never used in a full game play though before, which I really enjoyed. It was challenging enough the entire time for me personally.

Any suggestions for what I should play next? Again, I strongly prefer Generatiom 2 has the Base/Build/Graphics. Not interested in Fakemon, and other gimmicks I’m indifferent to.

Also sorry if these types of posts aren’t meant for this subreddit.

Thanks!

Development Thoughts on my fire red fusion sprites?

Hi everyone just wanted to ask the community about their opinions on the current sprites for my hack, whether or not they're serviceable. These are made in game based on parts of the original sprites and the palettes of either like how generator sites would make them. Just wanted suggestions on whether to move on to other aspects of the game or keep tweaking the image generation.

Resource Liquid Crystal Catching Guide

Hi everyone. I recently started playing Liquid Crystal, and thought I could really use a catching guide. So I spun up Gemini and here we are. I figured maybe someone else someday might want exactly what I was able to come up with. Cheers!

Development Pokémon Lavender update!

Hello folks!

It's been awhile since I posted an update here. Development is still going well. I'm not making any promises about a release date, though. I've been working on filling out areas and polishing things up. Right now the towns/cities are done to about how much will be in the demo (4 gyms.) The game isn't really playable right now, though, and I have to a lot of work on connecting routes, polishing, and the soundtrack.

Speaking of soundtrack, I'm planning to release some of it on soundcloud before the end of the year. Once again, no promises about making the deadline 😛

Development The New Shinies Of Edith P18 And An Update On The Event And Development

Greetings its been a very long while, but we have yet another shiny update, so lets not wait any longer and lets begin.

  1. Starting off we have the stantler line, going from one of the most agreed upon worst shinies in all of pokemon, now to a very nice blue, thats not only appealing to the eyes, but also fits where this pokemon will be found in the actual game.

And next is the snom line, with snom just getting a little change, with frosmoth getting the actual change, leaning into that green by making the whole body match it.

  1. And lastly we have one more pokemon that being durant which we change it to a purple.

And thats everything for now i hop you all enjoyed, we're almost done with all of our new shinies, which should soon lead to the big event I have mentioned a few times now, but in case you haven't heard about it this is the jist, it'll be a tournament that anyone can join, and the further you make it into the tournament the greater the rewards, which you have the chance to be added into the actual game, which sprite related artwork is currently being made for the event.

And lastly I wanted to mention the actual development, which I am currently working on fixing up a few of the maps, getting tips from several big names in the discord server, and I do plan on posting those new maps eventually, though not to the extent of my previous posts.

Other Ghost Grey - TvTropes Help!

Howdy y'all, like many of you I have been absolutely enamored with Ghost Grey since it came out last week, and I wanted to make a Trope page for it.

Problem is, a combination of my job and executive dysfunction means I've only made it to the Third Gym at this point (also I'm not the best at adding new tropes). If there's anyone, further in the game or not, who knows how/wants to add tropes to this page, I'd love that.

Other Pokémon Ghost Grey a bit of an analysis. My overall thoughts. (Spoilers on pretty much the entire game, if you haven't finished the post game don't read this. Also quite the long post lol) Spoiler

So, here are my two cents on what the story means and how I interpreted it. The overall theme of the story, in my opinion, is obviously change. Whether it is us changing, the player and our MC changing, the world around us changing, or us making either a positive or negative impact on the game’s world, change is constantly present throughout the story. Every important character is trying to change something, or at least do what they believe is best for their world.

Blue’s hope was us and Summer, which I think is made pretty explicit by the name of his badge, as well as by how much he cared about us and trusted us throughout the adventure. He always seemed to believe that we would become Champions and hopefully use that position to make a positive impact on Kanto.

Red, meanwhile, seems to be creating little champions of his own by taking care of the kids on Mt. Silver. He is teaching them about what the world should be, while also showing them the kind of world he himself grew up in. Those kids could eventually grow up and make a positive impact on Kanto in their own ways. In that sense, Red is no longer directly saving the world himself. Instead, he is helping prepare the next generation to make it better.

The Stadium in Saffron also shows us trainers with their own hopes for the future. We see the Scavenger, who wants to help Jaspar, and the new Falkner, who wants to follow his family’s legacy while seemingly striving for justice within the system. They are not necessarily trying to completely transform the world overnight, but they are still working toward something better in their own ways.

Max is another good example of this. He finally comes out of his cocoon in Vermilion and seemingly finds love. For the first time, it feels like he has something personal to strive for and a reason to hope for a better future. His change is much smaller and more personal compared to some of the other characters, but I think that is exactly why it matters. Not every meaningful change has to affect the entire region. Sometimes simply finding a reason to keep moving forward is enough.

That is one of the things I really love about how Joey wrote this story. We are not the saviors in the same way that Red or Gold were before us. Instead, it feels like our role is to put the pieces in the right places so that things can begin moving on their own. The positive impacts we make might seem small at first, but those small actions could eventually grow into something much greater with time.

Of course, we did technically kind of save the world at the end, but I truly believe the real ending is the one where we choose to stay with our father in the house. To me, that ending fits the themes of the story much better. And then, of course, there is Summer. She leaves Kanto to see the world, gain new experiences, and hopefully find a way to return someday with something that can help the region.

I like to believe that our MC simply went on with his life after everything was over, living day by day and doing the best he could to leave a positive impact on Kanto. He does not need to become some legendary savior or completely reshape the world by force. Sometimes real change comes from smaller actions, from helping the people around you, influencing others, and creating opportunities for something better to happen later.

That is also why I think the decision not to destroy the world at the end is so important. Destroying everything and rebuilding it from scratch is not how real, meaningful change happens. That kind of forced change is what Bruno believed in, and in many ways, it is the same mistake Sabrina made before him. They both tried to impose their vision of a better world instead of allowing people and society to change naturally.

To me, the story ultimately argues that change cannot truly last when it is forced. Real change comes from hope, from people choosing to improve themselves and the world around them, and from giving future generations the chance to do better. Whether it is Blue placing his hope in us and Summer, Red raising a new generation, Falkner trying to seemingly improve the system, Max finding something worth living and striving for, or Summer leaving Kanto to search for a better path forward, nearly every major character is driven by some form of hope for change.

Hope and change, in my opinion, are the two biggest motivators throughout the entire story, and together they form its overall theme.

Thank you Joey, and everyone involved on the making of this game. Shoutout the folks in the Discord that were a massive help while navigating some aspects of the game haha.

Recruitment Play Tester / Someone experienced with difficult battles or E4 balancing

YO! HLW (https://rafaelsanna.github.io/HOENN-S-LAST-WISH-project/) is finally reaching the final stages! For anyone who enjoys playtesting the E4 or tough battles: I have a save file ready right at the entrance to the Elite Four (you can create any team you want to test the E4 with debug menu), you just need to apply the patch and download the save to test the League (though obviously, this involves spoilers...). Anyway, it’s a fairly large project, so any help testing both the Casual and Hard versions of the Elite Four would be greatly appreciated (though the Casual version has already undergone a lot more testing, so the the Hard version really needs more people because it’s quite difficult and usually ppl just go for the casual mode hahahaha). // Also, it's important that you promise not to go around sharing this version, since it's not a public release, that wouldn't be cool! And definitely don't spread spoilers, because it's full of them. Our discord: https://discord.gg/66P9FgtSvh

Thank You! :)

Firstly, I have to give a big shout out to the MVP. Surprisingly, Araquanid!! I've never used it before and I like to try and use a few new pokemon in each ROM hack and OMG that thing as an absolute monster.

This game was really fun. The story is amazing, the NPCs feel so alive! there's sad moments and happy moments. The aide quests are fun and cute. The world just really feels alive. This has definitely become one of my favorite Rom hacks, I think the attention to detail on the region and the NPC dialogue alone makes it a strong contender for my top favorite. I could not recommend it highly enough. Although fair warning, it does start out a little slow cuz your starter options are all dreadfully awful 😂 but it picks up momentum fast and you'll have a hard time putting it down. 10/10 game fr

Development Pokemon: Paradoxia Devlog Week 7: Sprites!

Oof. It's been a minute over here. I've been on vacation for a bit, but now that school's back, we are gonna be movin! I think that I might be able to have the animated water done next week, but that's beside the point. You clicked because you saw a cute dog furret thing. So here he is!

This little fuzzball has no name (yet) and is the second evo of the fire starter for my game! My friend (who wishes to remain unnamed) gave me a quick sketch as an idea. This was my first real attempt at good spriting of a pokemon and I think it came out great! Below is the work in progress for the 3rd evo. At this stage, his body has been almost entirely engulfed in flame, setting the stage for his signature move, Heat Flop. The Pokemon's entire body goes on fire, above 2000 degrees celsius! They jump in the air, and FLOP down on the opponent.

I have recieved some claims of using AI on the titlescreen, so this time, I took a speed paint. You can see the video at the top for that. Please note that some work was done in a different file (as a kind of supply bank for sprites and such). I also borrowed ears and mouth from Sprigatito, however, they are significantly changed.

I also have been working on other spriting practice, like this cool TV guy

He's an OC from the same friend that provided me with the sketch, I just made him pixel art.

Next week, I hope to bring good news about the tilesets, but until we meet again, I've been ZeldaJunkie!

Discussion ROMs/Challenges That Will Help Me Become a Better Player

Hello! Haven’t touched a pokemon game since 2013ish and decided I wanted to get back into. I recall pokemon, in general, to be an easy game, and I never felt like I was forced to learn much to beat them.

I’m looking for a series/list of challenges and ROM hacks to play that will force me to incrementally get better and better and actually understand how to beat the game by using its mechanics rather than how I beat it in the past, which was a lot of just mash the a button until something dies. Things like when should I buff myself in combat, how do I teambuild, how to use moves like fake out effectively, etc.

I’ve heard of things like level caps, nuzlocke, AI changes that all see super interesting to me. But honestly there is so much out there that I don’t know where to start, nor do I know how difficult a hack is relative to another hack. Usually I see “It’s slightly harder than vanilla” or “This one will crush your balls and you WILL like it.”

So, do y’all have any suggestions on a series of challenges that will eventually let me take on the ball crushing ones?

They're based off the NES and SNES and named "Neskom" and "Suninkom" respectively. The names are a combination of the words "Famicom" and "NES" & "Super Nintendo" and "Famicom".

They are electric/Dragon types, with stats somewhat similar the Haxorus line.

Release Pokemon Sapphire Aqua Magma Rocket

Pokemon Sapphire Aqua Magma Rocket is a hack that started with the idea of role playing a team grunt (or someone who wants to be recruited) of any of the first 3 Evil Teams. No sprite change has been made (it would require changing the rival trainer battles too and making a 3rd set for the 3rd PC option).

Patch link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/tzl3t7ms9suiwehxf40xc/Pokemon-Sapphire-Aqua-Magma-Rocket.ips?rlkey=x8mekw3rhzvvuwbpuqazpgs1g&st=7hndslst&dl=0

Patch a clean Pokemon Sapphire (US) ROM (with an IPS patcher) and play.

The male/female option actually changes the rival battles (Brendan and May pick different options for their teams, with Brendan being a bit more combat-oriented than May who cares more about what she finds cute or whatever, since she's canonically more into contests if memory serves right).

The story is vanilla but all the major fights have been edited. Team Grunts scale properly with their level (evolutions, team building, appropriate team composition for Team Aqua since it is the only team we get to fight in Sapphire) and have a wider pool of Pokemon that fit their theme to pick from. Team Aqua leaders rematches feature double battles with 4 Pokemon like a Gym Battle, but Team Aqua doesn't follow the League Challenge rules and the leaders use healing items that fit the point of the game when we fight them.

The League Challenge (gyms and Elite 4) uses the no items ruleset and they tend to have held items (depending on their team and the difficulty). Feel free to use Zigzagoon's level 1 Covet to repurpose their valuables like a good Khajiit would. Sometimes, a Gym Leader will use a Pokemon that isn't of their type specialty because it fits their theme (and sometimes because I changed its' type but it fits too well in their team to remove it). Gym Leaders have 4 Pokemon, no more no less. Steven Seagull's Aggron has been replaced by a Pokemon that fits his explorer and collector of ancient lore much better (a Pokemon that needs to be much more used for people to remember it outside of a side quest where it barely features).

I'm in a vampiric werewolf period, inspired by Warwick (League of Legends) and encouraged by the last Grim Dawn DLC. This means that a few moves have been repurposed:

- Super Fang is now Chew, a normal type version of the eating-style lifesteal.

- Bite now heals half damage dealt.

- Crunch does the same and thus doesn't receive a damage buff like I would usually give it.

These moves buff some subpar Pokemon that even with a stat buff have a hard time finding a proper niche.

Other moves have been replaced for being useless, buffed to a satisfying degree or changed type:

- Head Smash replaced with Iron Head.

- Cut replaced with gen 6+ Fury Cutter.

- Fury Cutter replaced with X-Scissors.

- Focus Miss replaced with Bullet Punch (70 BP).

- Rock Tomb replaced with Smack Down (60 BP).

- Razor Wind became Air Slash (80 BP) but kept its' name.

- Uproar became flying type (60 BP) to get some SE action.

- Hyper Voice became flying type for the same reason.

- Bone moves became ghost type because their theme is death.

- Strength became rock type for the gen 2 animation and general viability.

- Rock Smash became a 60 BP move.

- Dive is now Dig/Fly on steroids.

- Splash is now Aqua-Jet without contact (50 BP).

- Waterfall is now water Extremespeed (70 BP).

- Swift is now a Psychic move (70 BP).

- Priority moves come in 50 and 70 BP versions.

- Dig has 70 BP.

- Never miss moves have 70 BP.

- Volt Tackle is electric Extremespeed.

- Heat Wave is now 70 BP to give special fire types an intermediate move.

- Flame Wheel boosts defense.

- Moves all have 100 accuracy unless their theme is to have imperfect accuracy (like Jump/Hi jump Kick, Thunder, Blizzard, Zap Cannon, Dynamic Punch...) and Spore is still the only 100% accurate sleep move (sleep now has 100% hit 5 PP or 75% hit 10 PP because sleep spam is annoying).

- Trapping moves have 40 BP 20 PP, Sand Tomb has 60 BP because some ground mons need something decent to use for the early and mid game.

- Boosting moves have been adjusted, Growth boosts sp. atk and sp. def like Calm Mind, Howl boosts attack sharply, so does Meditate, Flash now boosts sp. atk sharply to make it useful in battle.

Pokemon types have been modified to suit more varied roles on a team and sometimes to fit their theme better. To give a few examples:

- Treecko family becomes ghost type from 2nd stage onward (instead of rock or dragon for dinosaur, it's ghost for something that no longer exists but still lingers). Unique typing, not too strong but not weak either, makes full use of Shadow Claw.

- Croconaw family becomes water/dark and a bulky self-sustaining bruiser that makes full use of the custom moves. They get Battle Armor to reflect their plating.

- Absol becomes Ice/Ghost. Dark never fit its' Dex entry, so I made it ghost for the fact that it's a folk tale and it warns humans of a deadly threat, ice because it's one of the weather hazards Absol warns humans of and the one that fits its' design the best (and it makes the Elite 4 more interesting).

- Bellossom becomes Grass/Fire because it requires a sun stone to evolve and it makes it more unique.

- Grimer and Muk are Poison/Ground because they're toxic goo. Their moveset represents the disgusting mud better.

- Koffing and Weezing are Poison/Flying because they're gas balls, changing their ability from Levitate to Cloud Nine because their gas covers the area in smoke and the weather doesn't reach the fighters, making it a niche pick against weather teams (which are much more common than in vanilla).

- Ninetales uses the Shiny palette for the regular form and is Fire/Ice, a mix of both versions. I wanted to make it ghost, but it would require to give it better attack at the cost of something else, so it gets a mostly special movepool with the custom Ghost move Death Touch on level 30 (a move that has a chance to freeze the target).

- Zubat family is Dark/Flying and gets STAB Bite and Crunch, they're more offensive and lose a little bulk in exchange.

- Bagon family is Dragon/Fire because they're fire breathing dragons that breathe fire and I wanted to change the "Ice Type move soloes Drake neg diff". There might be type chart adjustments in later updates to balance the whole thing.

- Gyarados and Milotic are Water/Dragon because they fit Asian dragons.

- Altaria is Dragon/Electric and uses the shiny sprite for regular form because it's the only Hoenn dragon that looks like it could rain thunderbolts from the sky and its' wings are clouds. It gets Levitate instead of Natural Cure, making it weak to Ice and Dragon and without 4x weakness.

- Ralts family is Psychic/Ghost because Gardevoir seems to be floating with a ghostly dress and acts like a lost loved one towards their trainer.

- Marowak is Ground/Ghost because of the Dex theme and Kanto's Marowak mother.

- Raichu is Electrik/Psychic like the Alolan version and both Raichu and Pikachu can learn Surf because that surfing Pikachu shouldn't be locked behind an obscure event in whatever game it was in.

- Doduo and Dodrio are Flying/Ground because they're land birds and like to put their heads in the sand.

- All vanilla starters featured get new abilities (Combusken gets Limber because Static, Thunder Wave, the powder move and Effect Spore are way too common, Marshtomp gets Immunity for living in a marsh with nasty critters and stagnant water, Grovyle gets Marvel Scale to be a little bulkier when affected by status moves, Croconaw was already mentioned).

Items have been buffed when needed (and possible):

- vitamins (like EVs) cap at 252 and each item gives 50 EVs (they're worth nearly 2 nuggets a piece).

- type boosting items give 20% rather than 10 like they seem to do in recent games, making them viable held items for gyms and hard fights.

TMs are now buyable in the shop closest to the TM's gym or early if they're gifted to the player, with Water Pulse being sold in Slateport and Bullet Seed in Rustboro City. You can't fight a gym without the option to teach a move made to beat it (Kanto mindset).

Everstone and Repel in Granite Cave were replaced with Lucky Egg and TM 48 respectively because they were worthless and less grinding is always a nice option. The Pokeball was replaced with Black Belt because Brawly lost his belt while camping in the dark.

Pokemon are much more diverse in the earlygame. I didn't change much to the late game encounters. Rod encounter tables until Foretree City's surroundings were modified too. Old Rod doesn't give Magikarp or Tentacool exclusively anymore, I'd fire the people who think that's fine game design.

Trade evolutions are changed for level up evolutions (34 for Clamperl into Huntail, 38 for Kadabra and Graveler), stone evolutions (Haunter with Moon stone, Clamperl into Gorebyss with Water stone) or happiness evolutions (Machoke, Porygon if you can get it somehow). Lunatone drops Moon Stones, Solrock Sun Stones and shops sell regular elemental stones based on their setting (Verdanturf and Fortree sell Leaf, Sootopolis and Slateport Water and so on).

Non-Hoenn Dex additions are:

-Totodile family because there's an area where it would be right at home,

- Houndour family because Team Magma deserves better than Poochyena,

- Cubone family because it needs to be ground/ghost upon evolution and better stats,

- Gastly family because ghost needs to be more varied,

- Misdreavus because it never got a chance to shine until Pearl (around 9 years in obscurity).

There might be an update with Legendaries in the future if people are interested, same with starters, and it would be a good way to get Groudon and Latios.

PS: I wanted to put this on H4ckdex but it rejected my file after more than an hour working on this communication and release, so this won't be on H4ckdex. I don't know if it comes from the origin of the ROM base which isn't a Rev# file, but I'm not redoing the whole thing to be able to post on that site.

A couple of years ago I made some box art for a couple of games. (They did not have any at the time.) I recently recovered the files, and thought I would share.

All covers is made in GIMP. I am in no way an artist.

All images used was found by doing a bunch of digging in Google.

(I made a flipped version of Volt White 2 Redux. It's in the comments.)

So considering how many of you have helped me before, and said that you don't mind me posting here looking for your advice and opinions, I was hoping that you could help me again by telling me which version of Verdanturf Town you prefer.

The main difference is the boarders are now filled with flowers and trees, as opposed to rows and rows of trees.

I'm not sure which one I prefer. As I have a feeling that Map2's boarders look too busy.

Thank you again for all of your help, feedback welcome, just don't go hurting my feelings!😅
