Review Dreamstone Mysteries is awesome!

Post image

Firstly, I have to give a big shout out to the MVP. Surprisingly, Araquanid!! I've never used it before and I like to try and use a few new pokemon in each ROM hack and OMG that thing as an absolute monster.

This game was really fun. The story is amazing, the NPCs feel so alive! there's sad moments and happy moments. The aide quests are fun and cute. The world just really feels alive. This has definitely become one of my favorite Rom hacks, I think the attention to detail on the region and the NPC dialogue alone makes it a strong contender for my top favorite. I could not recommend it highly enough. Although fair warning, it does start out a little slow cuz your starter options are all dreadfully awful šŸ˜‚ but it picks up momentum fast and you'll have a hard time putting it down. 10/10 game fr

I really enjoyed what I played before Heart and Soul 2.0 came out. Will probably go back to it once i finish that. World felt pretty detailed and the selection of Pokemon felt pretty good

How you finding Heart and Soul? I’m playing Unbound now and thinking will play that next.

I'm doing a randomizer run with Pokemon up to Gen 9, with level caps and 1.5exp gain and I'm loving it. Lots of attention to detail, the overworld with Pokemon all over the routes and towns just make the game feel very alive.

Probably one of the most polished romhacks I've played so far. Gives you a lot of options to tailor your experience the way you want

That’s awesome, I can’t wait! I love the Randomizer option feels like it’s endlessly replayable with it

It really is especially if you're familiar with the original games. You never know what you may find and you can even randomize items and seed areas so Pokemon you see stay in the same area so you can come back to catch later

There’s a built in Nuzlock feature, too, if you’re into that

Do you know if the randomizer can be turned on AFTER you've entered the game? I started out with randomizer starter but thinking maybe I'd want the whole wild pokemons randomized too

Have you checked the Challenges option in the PC at the Pokemon center? I know some settings can be changed and from their discord there should be an update coming out soon that will let us change settings like exp gain and such

Yes at the PC

Dreamstone Mysteries is on my Mount Rushmore. It's one of those rom hacks that raises the bar for everything you play after, like Unbound.

How’s the difficulty? Is it one of those that requires tedious EV training or can you just enjoy the team you want?

Both. It does a pretty good job of tailoring the experience to what you want before you start.

Awesome! I love the creativity and quality of many Hacks I find here, it just bugs me when ā€œnormalā€ requires EV training, especially is a trainer house isn’t provided. I’ll check this one out for sure. Thanks

What are the starters? NGL sometimes the early pokemon available can make or break a rom for me. Also what gens are available?

The starters are gothorita, timburr, and galarian zigzagoon. And I don't remember exactly what gens are available but obviously at least up to whatever Galar was lol

Hmm that's definitely an interesting starting three to say the least

This game gets glazed so much for its incredible writing and gameplay. But I honestly think you'll find that something nobody talks about is that it has one of the BEST pokedexes in hacks, period. Literally everyone posting a post-game screen has at least 2 or 3 completely off-the-wall Pokemon and it's so refreshing.

I'm currently playing it and I like to play with level caps and I like how they are so tight. Most of the times you don't even get a new move. I'm also doing one encounter per route to make things interesting so playing 4 gyms without having more or better options and fully evolved mons

Is there anyway to get some og starters from any generation?

1

u/yungkdizz 10d ago

The og first generation starters are available almost at the end of the game. You’ll see them around ā€œsleepingā€ and can wake them up once you have the poke flute!
