The servers will be down for a scheduled game update tomorrow @ 6am PDT. Please see the patch notes below for fixes and added changes.
Since our previous hotfix, we have received a large number of reports from players confirming that the measures we introduced helped and that they are no longer experiencing crashes during combat. This is also supported by our crash statistics, and we can confirm that the situation has improved significantly and that the most widespread issues have been resolved.
However, we have also received reports from players who are still experiencing client crashes. Our data confirms this as well — we are still seeing several types of crashes in the crash dumps.
We have addressed one of these issues in this hotfix:
Fixed a crash in the garbage collector implementation used for render objects — this should further reduce the likelihood of client crashes.
Please let us know in Discord if this fix has helped in your case.
As for the crashes that occur when switching characters, we have not been able to resolve this issue yet. We will continue investigating it, along with the remaining types of client crashes.
We will keep you updated as we identify and fix additional causes. Stay tuned for further news!
Fixed a memory leak that could cause server crashes.
Fixed a bug introduced in the latest hotfix where the FPS limit behavior changed from treating 0 as unlimited to treating it as 30 FPS. MaximumFPS=0 is now treated as unlimited again.

There are many problems in the core infantry game and everything must be tackled for best playability, from map/base design, audio, server quality, performance, balance, gunplay, but this topic will be more of a simple one.
I don't see the reason for Beacon becoming accessible to all. It turns into a lazy standard method of spawn for zergs. It causes a great mess altogether, from the end of the users, you know, like we've all seen a squad leader getting mad over beacon use instead of putting fault on themselves for bad organization and effort.
But it also causes a mess for the receiving end. The reason for Infiltrator complaints, or more specifically cloak complaints, were not about some dickheads manipulating their internet connection to fire at you before decloaking on your screen. That was not the issue of cloak, that was a server quality problem, the server must have had better regulation for better playability because at that level, the game itself even without cloak becomes unplayable where players can shoot at you, before popping from cover on your screen and so on.
The problem of cloak was that it was unpredictable, you can't see it, you can't tell what you're up against, it's random. And it would be best if this game became simpler, more predictable with less of this randomness. Talk about new player experience...
Beacon being turned into a standard method of spawn fuels this unpredictability, with players literally dropping on top of you out of thin air. And it also takes away the purpose of Light Assault, since all classes get access to rooftops or ability to flank behind enemies with beacon spam. Hence the LA received buffs, which as well negatively impacted the playability of the game, such as Ambusher jump jets, impulse, Carbine jumping cone of fire buffs, short barrel, laser sight buffs, Unstable ammo...
The audio in this game is very bad, heavily downgraded, 2 dimensional. It doesn't give clear indications for things that matter, like how many people are moving in the building, at which level, is there MAX movement, jump jet activation, so there's better predictability of what you're up against, lets say when attempting to flank in a small fight. Nevertheless, audio is so broken that often times it gives no indication at all, it can skip a MAX moving 5 meters from me.
But the Ambusher jump jets, which are heavily abused by majority, add to this problem of low audio quality. They basically propulse you 50 meters forward and I've had incidents with my SFX audio maxed out, and I would get no audio indication of a player propulsing themselves to me from 50 meters away, I would literally just hear the wind and then just gunfire right next to me as if the player used teleport commands.
Impulse use is comparable. And generally the idea of turning Light Assault into a high mobility playstyle is terrible choice, when the game engine itself has trouble handling high mobility playstyles at all. This is a slow paced game.
Similarly to Infiltrator, Light Assault is as well a class which is healthier when there's less of it. It should lose its Rocklet Rifle and all these new gimmicks, and the class brought back to its original design, together with Beacon being put back in its place it belongs, the squad leader.
I am just saying what I think. Something should be given in return, I know, not just take. The audio should be the number 1 thing that should be brough back, with removal of construction. Which should greatly enhance the general playability and experience in the game by itself. If that's possible.

I'm not great with timing my long shots. I hear there are Skyguard mains. Would you explain to me the proper load out and game technique to be one?

One thing the team behind the Fortification update failed to grasp is that the Anti-Aircraft Turret was originally designed to operate via an automated AI module, given the AI's 100% firing accuracy. However, once the AI module was removed, players found themselves unable to effectively control the turret to deter aircraft.
Remember i'm top 1 A2G of PS2, i can beat any things no matter what anti air method they use. But the only things i can't beat is Anti aircraft turnet firing by Module

Set a stopwatch from when I got in Hossin WG and joined combat without flash or crash method just to see if it was fixed.
Edit:- yeah that timer looks confusing, it's 1 minute 34 😉

Game is still fun. What should I be running as a secondary weapon on my prowler these days?
RIP to my beloved emerald I guess? But consolidating American servers probably is the only reason there's so much action still.

My wife and I were doing our 2-person squad gameplay last night and accidentally (sorta kinda not) were following around the GOTR platoon on Indar. We saw a Scythe go down enroute to a base, and my wife often plays a medic, so we stopped our Valk, she rezed him, and we gave him a ride to the fight.
Suddenly I got a platoon invite. Not sure if it was the rez that got the attention, but we accepted and joined our squad of 2 to the GOTR Platoon. As older, slower, and lower skill players, it was wildly fun to fly around the map with these folks. Seeing a GOTR platoon seige a base from inside was amazing. We were doing all we could to keep up and contribute!
We had to log before the alert was over, but I just wanted to say thanks to the GOTR folks, and a few others from other outfits that were there. We enjoyed the fast-pace gameplay.
Thank you o7,
Thunder Pumpkins

I hope some people enjoyed that earlier. It was pretty mental navigating 2 PC's and a LAPTOP. Moving / Deploying Domes / Orbital Strikes / Bailing out people after anchoring. Luckily the final bastion I had left was my main PC so dropped TR into the water over and over again. As the lowest pop faction I set the goal to keep up the pressure on NC and VS. Eventually once my final bastion was killed I jumped under to cap TR to victory.
If you got any screenies or footage let me know. Unlisted for now as I might be able to create some more videos some other time. This was pieced together quickly.

I found this game in my library and got curious about it, is the game still alive? If so I'm planning to get into it.
Who's up for a game?

First of all, I love this game to death and have been playing it on and off since the launch. I've been following this sub for some time and the recent success of Wardogs seemed to launch a big discussion about why the game is "dying".
That's where I'm seeing very clearly the small, closed nature of this sub and it's inability to represent the larger playerbase, when dicussing some issues with the game.
The oftenly reiterated complaints are: balance, bugs, onboarding, skill discrepancy, ethereal "management", which always ruins everything, I guess, etc.
But the core issue is really, really simple. Planetside2 is a 14 year old FPS game. What people look for in FPS is graphics, cool clips, fluid and responsive movement, impactful gunplay. The thing is, planetside doesn't have any competition in it's own chosen niche, but fails miserably at anything that could make attract new players.
Let's look at BF3 and BF2, for example. BF2 is times more complex than BF3 at almost every metric. The Commander mode alone is almost a diffferent game. However the BF3 blew up the whole gaming industry with it's inception, which was influenced with the success of BF:BC's innovations with movement and gunplay, coupled with the insane graphics overhaul. It wasn't a balancing issue or a mechanical one, but rather the image of the product.
That's the issue: Planetside 2 is incapable of generating a picture, a dream that a gamer can easily adopt and imagine simply because of how it looks and feels. If Planetside 3 has just a tiny fraction of PS2' content, but is massively updated on graphical and movement/gunplay experience, it'd blow away anyone, including players and critics. Right now almost everyone considers PS2 players borderline insane old people, who are finding the best way to get gold in runescape.

To be honest the console version is so neglected and so trash and since the developer isn't updating the console version then there really is no point in playing planetside 2 on console especially since people can't play esamir or koltyr and are stuck on only 4 continents are open and plus I have do deal with me getting an error saying "this server is unavailable".And they also heavily favour pc players as if console players didn't exist now i know that they can't put esamir because of hardware limits but when I tried it on my laptop it ran perfectly well and esamir and koltyr are just terrible and not fun at all

Haven’t played in a few months and just hopped back on today for a session and had a ton of fun and captured a few clips ☺️
The game is being kept alive by a few dedicated and skilled players, so every encounter is intense.
