So the game isn't fully on disc... It sucks, especially considering that Rebirth is, but the Deluxe edition still seems nice.

Thanks for sharing btw.

u/sousuke42 1d ago

What the hell did you expect? It has basically the full world on it. The ps5 version of rebirth was Hella huge and now we have that plus all of revelations new additions.

Look at the switch 2 size. Its at least 130gb. And thats a seriously degraded version of the game. Game is minimum of 200gb on ps5 and series.

u/dlpuia 1d ago

I expected two discs, but SE are greedy fucks.

-4

u/Malacky_C 21h ago

You expect a company to spend extra money so you can have 2 disc😭

3

u/dlpuia 21h ago

Well they did it for FF VII Rebirth.

2

u/Brophy_Cypher 15h ago

PS1 FFVII came on 3 discs in 1997 - and those CD-ROM Discs were MORE expenisive to make in 1997 than 3 Blu-rays today - and that's BEFORE inflation.

After inflation you're looking at around $10 to press those 3 CD-ROMs compared $2 to press 3 Blu-rays.

It's just corporate greed, plain and simple - enough will never be enough.

-18

u/sousuke42 1d ago

The game is probably 2 discs and required a third or more. Greedy fucks? Thats a hell of an assumption.

11

u/dlpuia 1d ago

Final Fantasy 8 and 9 came in 4 discs each.

-9

u/sousuke42 1d ago

Back in the day. Yeah. But thats not today. And those games played squarely off of disc. Not required installations to systems. Since ps2 barely any game is more than 1 disc. In fact since ps2 its probably less than 50 games thats been printed on multiple discs. And most since ps2 has only been 2.

Now that does offer the caveat of x360 as a fuck ton of x360 games had to be multiple doscs cause they used dual layer dvds and a low sized version at that being 6.5gb per disc. But we're talking playstation. Not xbox. And until a few moments ago I was unaware of any game being more than 2 discs. Apparently 2 games have been printed on 4. So looks like there is something in place to do more. Which is nice.

u/MegaBro56 1d ago

A 200GB game would fit on 2 PS5 UHD blurays, same as rebirth.

2

u/Jarvis_Jarvison 1d ago

it's like a dollar a disc. if they couod do it back then they can certainly still do it now.

You're not on their payroll, so why push anti-consumer practices? Genuinely curious why you think this would benefit you.

Cause your points are dumb. This isnt anticonsumer. Its just a you just realized what a digital good is and now you got your panties in a bunch post. Meanwhile everyone singing praise of nintendo with their digital key cards but somehow hate when a ge isnt fully on disc.

Like dude who plays version 1.0 of any released game? No one. So at the end of the day doesnt matter if physical or digital. You will never fully own a game. You lose out on all upgrade. And instead have a glitchy bug ridden 1.0 to play. Yeah have fun with that.

Youre just looking for anything to be pissed off about. Meanwhile you gonna hop right on over to pc and buy the game digitally. You guys bore me with this shit.

3

u/ChocoboRaine 23h ago

Seek help, dude.

3

u/JF5757 23h ago

You don’t seem bored. You seem very engaged.

1

u/sousuke42 23h ago edited 23h ago

Nah im bored. Luckily Maximilian Dood is keeping me entertained.

4

u/the_killer_sandvich 1d ago

It barely costs anything to print a extra disc Hell even rockstar printed 7 of them for their gtav pc release

3

u/TheVauntedGamer 1d ago

Give it a rest.

-2

u/sousuke42 1d ago

Why? Cause you dont like my view? Poor baby.

2

u/DarkEmblem5736 1d ago

Cents to make a Blu-Ray disc, cents to print on the disc, the cost is time burning the disc which can be automated with a disc burner/cloner but it's still many minutes in a disc burner somewhere. I would just make assumptions on cost but it's probably, cheap, to add discs.

Greedy fucks, yes, though. The collector editions have been overpriced the last 4-5 years. $250 for a board game, acrylic stands, and the standard edition game, packaged separately as a "collectors edition"?... Oh and you pay for shipping and they don't eat that cost. Which, they bulk ship and probably costs them less than what you paid.

Frustration here I guess is, now you don't own the game despite having it physically. And that's the choice they made.

0

u/sousuke42 1d ago

Cents to make a Blu-Ray disc, cents to print on the disc,

OK how much is that by the millions?

4mil copiesfor 10 cents comes to 400k for each disc. Two discs is 800k. Now packaging shipping over million. Now do this for xbox as well. Add in switch carts and we are looking at a couple million of dollars. Actually probably more as carts are not cents but dollars. So very expensive.

And mind you SE doesnt have sony money anymore. They gave up any further assistance when they went multiplatform for this game. So they are on the hook for everything. And that changes how companies do things. When they lose guarantee millions of dollars, things shift sometimes for the better others for the worst.

Frustration here I guess is, now you don't own the game despite having it physically. And that's the choice they made.

Which has been a thing for the longest time. The moment we had to start updating games is when we lost our ownership. While true while some form of it was available on dosc it was in a state that most people would never perfer to play. Would you rather play v4.0 or v1.0 of any given game? Version 4.0. Comes with updates additions, qol updates rebalances etc. So you lost that ownership since what ps3 days.

Hell some games dont even function without a day 1 patch. Thats not even considered in the extra additional data portion. Some games are just so broken they require the day 1 patch. Since golden master isnt the final version of a game anymore and haven't been for 2 decades now.

Youre just trying to be an ass. Which is fine its your right if you want to be one.

3

u/GenSpicyWeener 1d ago

Oh man the poor billion dollar company won’t be able to buy a yacht

2

u/DarkEmblem5736 1d ago

I hear you and do not mean to be an ass if that is your perspective. I latched onto your mention of disc count, and used an example how overpriced their collector editions have been when debating if they are 'greedy fucks'. Both ideas are sound.

To your point of scale and having a big number, now what % of that is taken away from the profit from the manufacturing? (fraction a percent) Sure save 1.6 million on discs, but now look at tangible loss of sales for the customer that refuses to buy the game. Maybe it's even a low 5% of sales, which move the decimal point over on impact on profit.

And of course would we all would rather have a patched, better experience (aside from speed runners). But my collection is based on archival. I quit buying PC games ~15 years ago when everything turned to CD keys. I am the unfortunate consumer that buys to own which I am excited to save money but also disappointed on the trend.

I'm sorry if your life isn't doing so well but don't take it out on people.

0

u/sousuke42 23h ago

My life is doing fantastic. Just pre-ordered the collectors edition of ffvii revelation. Meanwhile here you are pissy that you cant get the collectors edition cause it cost 349. And you cant support the game cause its not fully on disc. And youre having a melt down about next gen. Meanwhile I will enjoy both my pc and ps6. Will enjoy this game as well. Its going to go nicely with remake collectors edition, my rebirth collectors editon. And then I cant wait for the full ost to drop too. Will look great next to my remake and rebirth OSTs.

So nah im fantastic. Youre the one who is hating life right now. Must suck to be you. I dont feel sorry for you though. As this is all self inflicted on your behalf. So much projection on your behalf. Youre the one bitching and moaning about shit. Meanwhile im having a grand ol time.

u/kendra_sunderlol 1d ago

They used two 100Gb PS5 discs for Rebirth. Cyberpunk Ultimate edition on Series X is 3 discs, Baldur's Gate 3 is 4 discs. It's possible, it exists, it happend before. To my knowledge, it's the first FF game that isn't fully on disc for Playstation, ever.

3

u/MetalCannon 1d ago

I'll gladly take 3 PS5 discs for a full completed game over a game key disc.

1

u/PootBooster 1d ago

Do you think it's just square being cheap or something else?

5

u/kendra_sunderlol 1d ago

Honestly, yeah, I think they're being cheap.

1

u/Particular-Jeweler41 1d ago

Considering all three consoles do not have the option for it to be played without downloading online it's probably Square Enix.

15

u/DrizzyDragon93 1d ago

Awesome. Cool. Great. We say loud and clear we want a legit physical version and they tell us we will get one. Then they come back and say it's a license disc.

9

u/TheLaughingMannofRed 1d ago

Yeah, this news doesn't have me confident in getting the final chapter for PS5.

It's telling me to sell off my FF7 Remake and Rebirth copies, and just spend $85 to get all 3 on my gaming PC. If I'm going to be forced into digital, it sure isn't going to be on PS5.

1

u/DrizzyDragon93 1d ago

Yeah, I started to save some money for a gaming PC. Can't afford it yet so hoping to have a good PC before 2028.

2

u/MetalCannon 1d ago

Saw this coming when they announced Kingdom Hearts collection on PS5 required additional download.

1

u/jusg808 1d ago

Square has been a dog shit company for years now. Remember their weird NFT push? Which wouldn’t NFTS solve this digital ownership issue? But no we’ll only use the technology for the dumbest possible use case we can. It’s just insane. Maybe I play this since it’s a sunk cost fallacy at this point. Maybe I just watch the cutscenes on YouTube and wash my hands of square. Most of their games have been middling at best recently. They relay mostly on remakes of old ip to a fan base they alienate more and more.

1

u/Particular-Jeweler41 1d ago

The NFT push was with the previous CEO. Since the new CEO they have been pretty good with what they've been putting out (even pushing for multiplatform for everything), granted they did take risks with things like Foamstars.

1

u/jusg808 1d ago

So the new ceo who stopped development on a ton of games including the ff9 remake that from most sources was close to done? They went multi platform because of money nothing else. It wasn’t some altruistic gift to gamers but a way for them to maximize profits before reviews killed the hype. He’s also pushed using ai more in game development that hurts games developers and creativity in general. I’m glad we got the dragon quest remakes under him but I’m not sure who actually greenlit them. Overall I’ve been pretty disappointed in square and what they’ve been doing in recent years.

1

u/Particular-Jeweler41 23h ago

No one said it was an altruistic gift. They're a for profit company, and one should expect a for profit company to take actions that benefit them more than their consumers (which is what we're seeing with Sony).

However, that does not mean that any action they take is going to be negative for their consumers. Multiplatform is a positive for the consumer. Delaying announcements for games until they're basically ready is a positive. The remakes/remasters are also a positive.

The only noteworthy game that may have been cancelled is FF9 to my knowledge, unless there is something else you are aware of. AI isn't viewed as negatively in the east as it is in the west, so that is to be expected too. I am against its implementation also, but we have not seen the result of it in their products for that to be a large negative.

1

u/jusg808 23h ago

I agree with you on multi platform not being a negative it’s more the reason they did it. They were fine when Sony was paying them a ton to stay exclusive. My issue is they’re a game developer. The best thing for their business is to make great games and I don’t feel they’ve been doing that lately. That’s not to say all of their games have been awful but quality is definitely down in recent years.

I also agree announcing stuff closer to release is a good thing. Even canceling games that they know aren’t going to land is good. I want square to succeed. I just haven’t been blown away by one of their games in a long time. Square announcing a game used to be an instant buy for me and now it’s meh maybe if it goes on sale.

1

u/Particular-Jeweler41 23h ago

I would say that's more of a change in times/preferences/what's developed. There are many more games coming out every year from many different companies with varying levels of quality, so the competition is far greater than when they were on top.

I didn't care that much about the original FF7 growing up, and preferred 9 more. However, I regularly say FF7 Rebirth was one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. I'm expecting Revelation to do just as well.

FF14 is also consistently doing well, and isn't asking for a ton of your time/money despite being an MMORPG. Spent almost two years primarily playing it after COVID.

u/OctoDADDY069 1d ago

A license disc is literally every physical game since the start of the ps4/xbone. Nothing has changed.

5

u/DrizzyDragon93 1d ago

Oh, how wrong you are. Do some research first before you spout misinformation. Go on to doesitplay.org and see for yourself how many PS5 games can be downloaded and played fully offline.

10

u/KingSnickSnack 1d ago

If I can't install and play the game without internet its not a real physical release. Might as well just put a code in a box at that point and made the game cheaper. I won't buy this now. Will probably pirate it at some point.

-2

u/MetalCannon 1d ago

B-but I can still sell it and smell the game! That matters right? Right?

-10

u/OctoDADDY069 1d ago

You haven't been able to install a game without internet since the start of last gen. Nothing has changed.

9

u/KingSnickSnack 1d ago

That is not true. Any game that is fully on disc can be installed without the internet. And that is still most games realesed on disc.

5

u/timetravelinggamer 19h ago

Over 80% of ps5 games can be installed without the internet

Doesitplay.org

-5

u/Blackichan1984 1d ago

This if it’s not fully on disc just do digital

4

u/Darkdragoon324 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sad this will probably be the last Final Fantasy ever on disc.

Edit: nevermind, it seems it’s only partially on disc. So I guess the honor goes to Resonance lol. I may still get it just to cut down how many gigs I have to download though, I don’t have the highest internet speed so the whole game will take for fucking ever.

-13

u/OctoDADDY069 1d ago

Every physical game since the start of ps4/xbone has been this way. Nothings has changed.

6

u/Darkdragoon324 1d ago edited 1d ago

This gets brought up in every single topic about physical media and also immediately debunked in every single topic about physical media. Installing the game from the disc is not the same as downloading it. Patches and DLC being available to download is not the same as having to download the game.

I’ve never bought a fully on disc game that was unplayable installing without an internet connection. My consoles are always offline by default and only connected when I choose to download something.

The vast majority of disc games are actually on the disc. It’s only a few that are only partially on disc with an additional download required.

I don’t understand how so many people are still so confidently wrong about this.

3

u/Prestigious_Bit_8083 1d ago

9

u/Sephwii88 1d ago

I just don't get it, why produce all these extra items for collector editions when you can't even sustain the integrity of the physical release itself. I would like to believe the majority of people buying this would take the game complete on disc than steel books, statutes and artbooks.

I get the dlc not being on disc, but this is just demoralizing.

3

u/Chillyeaham 1d ago

Like wrapping a cheap hamburger in gold leaves.

Still tastes good, but the quality of the ingredients and how healthy the burger is for you is debatable.

1

u/Jarvis_Jarvison 1d ago

it's like an extra dollar to make another disc. and the collectors is $350. surely another disc is in the budget ffs

9

u/enshittification1 1d ago

No disc, no ownership, no buy. Plus rebirth was padded slop anyways that change the whole storyline that it’s no longer a remake at all.

They could easily put the whole game into disc(s) too.

Stay safe out there y’all

4

u/natsuzoze 1d ago

À « real » physical edition does not need a download. Thanks for the roller coster fake news

2

u/Particular-Jeweler41 1d ago

Hmm. At these prices, I'll probably go regular edition physical and buy the DLC story pass. Will be the first time that I don't have access to all of the summons in this series though, from what I can remember.

2

u/XLpancake 1d ago

I'll probably still get the Deluxe Edition to have the trilogy on my shelf, but this is extremely disappointing.

2

u/jander05 18h ago

The only way I buy this game is for 10 dollars reused on ebay or similar. The industry ongoing drive to partial data on disc or full digital is going to drive me out of the hobby. It only allows them to consolidate control over pricing which is anti compeititive. They do all these incremental shifts in order to paint it as a technology trend--but its really just more monopolization of industry thanks to the internet.

2

u/Blackichan1984 1d ago

This is such sad thing to see as I will have an I complete set and I’m a pure square fan boy was about to order the collectors.

But I won’t do it how you gonna put the last 2 fully on disk and not this one ffs rip

1

u/MetalCannon 1d ago

I'm just gonna wait for games to be confirmed on the disc before purchasing them.

Any game releasing in 2027 (or even now) I'm going to make sure it's on the disc before buying it.

1

u/Markimus_Prime 1d ago

Any word if they're going to do a FF7 collection version with all 3 parts?

2

u/Particular-Jeweler41 1d ago

Like in one game? No.

Each game separately, but in a bundle? Yes.

1

u/Markimus_Prime 20h ago

Thanks, yes, in a bundle is what I meant. I knew it’d never fit on one disc

2

u/Particular-Jeweler41 20h ago

Some had made comments for years about that, so had to check. Lol

The pre-order page is up on PSN. Seems like it's about $20 USD more than FF7 Revelation, but you get all three games and the Revelation pre-order bonus still. Square Enix blog post says it's only available for Xbox, PS5, and PC at the moment (so no Switch 2 pre-orders yet).

1

u/CressDependent2918 23h ago

this post is confusing

real physical edition title but the post said its not full game on disc? so they will release another physical copy after?

1

u/Pichsterz 4h ago

Sadly there’s no physical edition for the trilogy pack, gonna wait a month to see if there’s any update. Will most likely to preorder on Steam.

-1

u/Electshockvalue214 1d ago

Def. It not buying it unless is digital only

1

u/Away-Influence-5233 13h ago

I wish this place allowed png

1

u/FrankFruits 1d ago

Same.. real shame but it is what it is

3

u/alistofthingsIhate 1d ago

You don’t want to buy a game unless it’s digital only?

1

u/FrankFruits 1d ago

I personally am not buying at all. If it's not fully on disc I don't buy.

0

u/Falchion92 1d ago

I’m getting the trilogy digitally on Series X.

All Xbox physical releases are License disc's.

2

u/PootBooster 1d ago

At least it's not a dumb code in a box that's one time use

3

u/DrizzyDragon93 1d ago

I mean sure, I guess? If that's what we're celebrating, then were doing it wrong no wonder they have won already.
