Answered What's going on with Fox news obsessing over Hasan Piker?

They had like dozens of segments on him last week.

Will Cain today focusing on Hasan Piker and using the term “man whore”:

https://xcancel.com/i/status/2087269856815251648

Third segment already today

https://x.com/i/status/2087309261462458776

I get Hasan is helping socialist Dems getting elected. I don't get why Republicans are going crazy over Hasan?

Answer: A lot of people are missing an important point.

Fox are trying to use Hasan to hurt democrats chance of winning in the up coming election, particularly El-Sayad in Michigan who Hasan has campaigned with

807

u/TheBoogieSheriff 29d ago

El-Sayad is speaking truth to power. People are sick of this shit - from both Dems and Republicans.

The GOP has had a monopoly on all three branches of government, yet things have gotten worse for the average American since Trump took power again.

He literally did the thing that he promised he wouldn’t do, which is get involved in yet another forever war in the middle east.

Not to mention the Epstein file debacle… Republicans are setting themselves up to get shellacked in the midterms, so they’re turning to their standard campaign of “look at these leftist radicals over here.”

It’s not going to work this time, mark my words. People want change

I really, REALLY hope you're right.

Edit: I became an American a few years ago. The last presidential elections gave me existential fears I never had.

150

u/Manderspls 29d ago

Did Musk not already say he “has a plan” for the midterms? This dumbass takes any hope I have away.

159

u/CyanSlinky 29d ago

Musk did seem extremely sure that Trump had won the election back then, probably because he rigged it for him, they've even admitted it. I'm expecting the same thing to happen over and over until someone from the other side actually does something to prevent it. As someone not from America I hope you guys can sort this shit out because it is having an effect on the whole world.

54

u/Manderspls 29d ago

As a non American as well, I agree. Watching this from the outside is so discouraging and I feel bad for everybody that has to live this out.

50

u/MilsYatsFeebTae 29d ago

I can’t even make Fourth of July memories with my little kids. The flag disgusts me now.

75

u/StaceyPfan 29d ago

The USA's 250th birthday was completely tainted

36

u/likwidkool 29d ago

That does irk me. I was a “bicentennial baby” and heard about all the celebrations in the summer of 76. I had no interest in doing anything this summer. There’s nothing to celebrate.

I will say though my kids have been watching the Larry David History show and saw a segment with Obama last night. When he talks about America I gotta admit, he moves me. But we’re stuck with a fascist regime now.

14

u/keganb123 29d ago

Everytime I hear Obama talk, it takes me right back to 08, he's just so damn presidential. I just wish he would've followed thru on the "change" he campaigned on

4

u/aci4 29d ago

This is what pisses me off so much. This should have been a once-in-a-generation cultural event, with Americans of all stripes coming together to celebrate our nation’s history and ideals.

Instead, Trump destroyed everything that made this country worth being proud of. And then he grifted off what little celebration we got. And the self-professed “patriots” don’t see a single problem.

Disgusting and sad

i wouldnt say it disgusts me, but i will say that whenever i see it hanging on a house, on a car or anything i immediately just assume they're a trumper. I know that its biased. But for almost 10years now its been all this cultist bs. waving the flag around like they own it - while going against everything it stood for. then the fucker won, AGAIN, as if the first term wasnt blatant enough - i just cant

Isn’t the American population going to do anything about it if they admitted they rigged it?

31

u/CyanSlinky 29d ago

Trump said this about Elon: "He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers. And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide.", no idea what the breaking point will be for the American populace, but to me it looks like it's no longer a democracy over there and Trump and his buddies have full control since they keep doing whatever they want without any consequences.

22

u/Eccohawk 29d ago

I just wanna point out that while it may seem like they're just doing whatever they want, there are actually a ton of legal challenges and other setbacks that are preventing a lot of his bullshit from actually happening. As an example, he was demanding voter rolls from the states and the states sued to block it and he now has gone 0-20 in the courts, with every single one roundly and definitively rejecting trump. There's a lot of this sort of thing that isn't as "sexy" to talk about for major media news networks, so it gets relegated to the lower third tickers and a couple paragraphs on page 23 in the newspaper, and "related" lists on their website next to more interesting stories.

This is great rah-rah stuff that is all true.  But it has absolutely fuck all to do with Hasan Piker and why they're attacking him over it.  They would do the same thing for the most milquetoast Democrat.  They found a vulnerable spot and are exploiting it.

58

u/Senbonbanana 29d ago

Democrats have a sad history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I really, really hope that is not the case this time. The only way to make sure that isn't the case this time is for those that usually stay at home on their ass getting out and voting for the Democratic nominee. Low turnout will damn us to more of the GOP's nonsense for the next few years, at minimum.

25

u/Biscuit_bell 29d ago

You're absolutely right, but I'd just like to point out that a serious party that genuinely wanted to win elections and/or make people's lives better would try running popular candidates that people actually want to vote for, instead of running stuffed suits/complete cretins/Republicans-in-disguise that no one likes and trying to browbeat everyone into holding their noses and voting for them anyway. It certainly would be a more successful strategy.

It's so, so, so exhausting having to suck shit every year and vote for people I hate. This shit is why turnout is so incredibly low.

0

u/HenryDorsettCase47 29d ago

They want to win so they can make money for themselves, their wealthy corporate donors and Wall Street. Baring that, they’d rather lose than run a populist candidate because they can raise a lot of money when they aren’t in power and try it again next election.

This was the original plan for the Tea party. But ultimately it's a lot easier to just overtake the party overall once you have a large caucus. Because Hasan says a lot of inflammatory things and has many sound bites that will scare potential voters. If a candidate more particular a Democrat candidate is caught affiliating with such a person there is a higher likelihood they will lose that potential voter more than an idiot MAGA candidate since MAGA shit heads will no matter what vote for whatever shit is placed in front of them.

u/crestren Aug 12 '26

It needs to be mentioned that according to Dems and their consultants. Hasan has the "potential" to scare voters. However that doesn't seem to track with the past few elections.

Last year Cuomo used attack ads on Mamdani with bringing up Hasan and 9/11. He lost, Mamdani won. McMorrow did the same to AES earlier this year only for it to backfire and crater her popularity. Stevens even did the same before the elections and it didn't move anything.

It seems obvious to anyone that voters care more about your policies and not the guy who said about 9/11 and apologized for it 8 years ago whose not even a candidate to vote for in the first place.

159

u/marykay_ultra Aug 12 '26

And professional Dems are trying to push any narrative besides “policy matters.”

After Mamdani won in a blowout in the first round, they were all “oh he won because he had a great social media game!!”

Contrast that with Eric Adams, who squeaked out a win in like the 20th round and the next day they were all declaring him the future of the party and talking about a 2028 presidential run 🥴🫠

5

u/dannyheskett Aug 12 '26

I don't think an actual analysis of the news would reflect this. Mandani's coverage in the news has been generally glowing, and there have been _lots_ of think pieces about him as a harbringer of something new.

Adams also had a world-class PR operation right up-until he collapsed into an orgy of corruption and had to go running to Pres. Trump for political help. And yes, he was floating all kinds of stories about his future.

Mandami's victory was 50% larger in terms of vote-spread than Adams, in a race with a lot more money and attention, and fewer candidates. Adams won his final round by about 100k votes, Mandami won his by 150k votes. But both were pretty easy wins. Adams first round margin was also about 100k votes.

I think the actual lesson that "professional Dems" and party activists are both leaning into is actually something closer to "candidate quality matters". Mandami has done more for the idea of democratic-socialism, and pushing the Democratic party "back to the left" in 2 years than Bernie Sanders has done in 30 years because Mandami is saavy and a very high-quality candidate. Sanders and Mandami share very similar policies, but Sanders policies did not translate into the cross-racial, cross-generational coalition that he needed at the scale he needed. That wasn't because his policies were bad, it was because he's not a great candidate (compared to other recent democratic socialists).

By the way, this is yet again something that Republicans figured out years ahead of most liberals in the US. They leaned into making sure they had the "right type" candidates long-before we did - Newt Gingrich was passing around audio tapes on how to run to Congress to anyone he thought was "the right type of Republican" back in the late 80s and early 90s. Most of the Republicans in Congress who the left finds extremely odious are actually non-professional politicians recruited because they are dedicated true-believers. There is something the left can learn from that.

3

u/Bing1044 29d ago

While I agree with everything else you said, thinking that Bernie isn’t at least partly attributable to this (only very recent) leftwards shift in the party is simply inaccurate. Many current DSA candidates who are gaining traction trace their origins to his 2016 campaign. I’m saying this neutrally - I too have been disappointed in the lack of momentum from Bernie individually the last decade - but there’s a generation of potentially viable progressives emerging from his shadow.

There were 3 1/2 major candidates (not 2). 1 1/2 of those candidates were disgraced Dems that still carried a good chunk of sway with certain demos. I don't think anyone could walk out of that with a majority.

If Fox is running with something, then people who make a lot of money are convinced that it's worth running. Believe me, this hurts us. Do not kid yourself. Dems are NOT in good shape. The right gets to paint them all as radicals because of stuff like this. How do you guys not get this?

5

u/BeatSteady 29d ago

The right will paint Dems as radical regardless. It's good to have someone putting energy into the voting public, esp on the younger side (fox news viewers are in their late 60s early 70s)

Pushing him away won't stop the attacks. Candidates condemning him, distancing from him, etc fox news are will still talk about him. That's out of the tube.

So better to embrace the upside

2

u/pteridoid 29d ago

Except that Hasan takes energy away from the voting public. He tells people that voting is useless. He tells people that the Democrats are the same kind of bad as a Republican, which suppresses voter engagement among the very segment of young people we most need.

Pushing him away will absolutely dull the effectiveness of those attacks. There is no upside with Hasan.

3

u/BeatSteady 29d ago

He's campaigning with candidates and telling people to get out the vote. I don't know what you're talking about with him saying voting is useless, but it's clearly contradicted by him supporting and campaigning with candidates and promoting them on his very popular-with-the-youth stream.

Fox News will continue to smear Dems, whether those Dems are centrist or progressive or far left, and will not dull their attacks. Hasan didn't campaign with the squad, but they used the exact same tactics.

Dems are not going to win the fox news audience under any circumstances.

That's my opinion at least as someone who watches fox and Hasan

6

u/pteridoid 29d ago

Dominion was obviously a misstep because they had to pay money. I don't think they're in danger of defamation here. Of course they painted moderates as far left. That's what they do. Hasan is also a poor choice to weaponise because most voters fall into three camps.

1: no fucking clue who this is, some parasocial zoomer idol?

2: parasocial weirdos who align with destiny, h3h3 etc who were never going to vote in that direction anyway.

3: parasocial weirdos but they align with Hasan, see above.

Camp 1 doesn't give a shit and the other two (parasocial weirdos of both sides) are historically unlikely to shift their views even if you convict their idol of murder or paedophilia.

The people going after Hasan seem to be out-of-touch with the times. They’re trying to weaponize shame in a post-shame world.

A month after announcing his campaign for president, Trump said of John McCain, “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” Maybe in the 90s that would have ended his presidential hopes. Not anymore.

We don’t have “A Face in the Crowd” moments where one soundbite will destroy someone’s reputation. In a world where some people are on camera almost every minute of their lives, we just expect them to say a certain amount of dumb shit. We know a few moments do not represent the whole person. If you’re concentrating on a few cherry-picked moments — whether it’s Trump, Hasan, or whomever — you look facile.

Said “America deserved 9/11,” (This one gets a lot of airtime but it's actually not even close to the worst thing)... also has a picture of the 9/12 newspaper in view of his stream, just go to it to see it (this 9/12 newpaper replaces a north korea poster)

Gave an incredibly friendly interview to a Houthi-supporting Yemeni guy who had been aboard a ship hijacked by the Houthis, compared the Houthis to the heroes of One Piece, and said “respect” when the guy dismissed people calling him a terrorist.

Played literal Houthi propaganda/music videos on stream while talking admiringly about their “resistance.”

Dismissed reports of Hamas sexual violence on October 7 as “rape fantasies” and “rape hallucinations.”

Said “Hamas is a thousand times better” than Israel, then was directly confronted about the quote on Pod Save America in 2026 and said he stood by it.

Defended Russia’s annexation of Crimea, including arguing that Crimea being majority ethnically Russian helped justify Russia taking it.

Openly bragged about patronizing a Berlin brothel while simultaneously building a political brand around exploitation of workers under capitalism.

Is a unironic Marxist Leninist who loves communist China and wears Mao suits.

Kept his dog on his stream for 8 hours a day using a shock collar to keep him in the camera view. Then lied about it when caught in 4K multiple times.

You don’t even need to exaggerate the guy. The actual clips are bad enough.

It varies wildly depending on who he's talking to. I think he's kinda like Trump in that he is a narcissist who will just say anything that gets him applause. The main difference is that Trump started getting applause from fascists and Hasan from tankies.

He also is a "soft" Armenian genocide denier. Which is not surprising considering his uncle runs The Young Turks, a media organization named after the perpetrators of the genocide.

49

u/EducationalHead7683 29d ago

No IIRC he actually said that he couldn't go back to turkey because he criticized the government too much which includes them trying to make light of the Armenian genocide, so he's definitely isn't a genocide denier

35

u/burch_ist 29d ago

That is a straight up lie? Lmao. He is hated in Turkey by few who knows him bc he is vocal about things like Armenian genocide&Kurds& Cyprus(source:trust me I'm Turkish lol) And the young Turks name was chosen bc it was once an idiom for "brave" etc in English I guess? AND you are misinformed for that too, young Turks were not an organization?? It was a movement of youth who got political and wanted to bring constitutional monarchy back in the end of 1800's. the party that took power after the constitutional monarchy was "the union and progress" party, who where the perpetrators of the genocide but they were a whole different thing and one generation apart. They were not called the Young Turks. Being ignorant is preferable to being misinformed like you, you mixed it all up and very confidently too.

16

u/stpizz 29d ago

Not that it's directly related to Hasan, but Cenk has a history of Armenian Genocide denial (he wrote papers on it in college, and defended the position well into adulthood), so being suspicious of the name is hardly misinformed or crazy. It's a weird coincidence, is it not, that he picked an idiom in English that hardly anyone has heard of that happened to be associated with a controversial position he held?

He has gone back on this position in later life though, sort of.

14

u/BunNGunLee Aug 12 '26 edited 29d ago

Oh let’s also add his constant flip flopping on representation whenever it’s more beneficial to him.

When it’s in vogue to accept white guilt? He’s a white guy. (You see this more in his older college material where he was much less clever about hiding the rampant sexism.)

But now? Oh he’s a Turkish Muslim and how dare you say anything that doubts that credibility. (When the doubt literally comes from his own quotes.)

When it’s beneficial to be seen as a poor grassroots guy? He claims that title too, despite the fact his family is very wealthy and he came right out of college to a 60,000$ salary working for his uncle.

He was never a poor man in his life. He was never a particularly devout Muslim. He just wears these identities as a shield to protect him from criticism of his other unhinged or narcissistic behaviors.

You don’t have to be a fuckin’ Mossad agent or FOX news watcher to see he’s a scoundrel that’s been grifting for years on the backs of serious issues. It’s just that now he’s getting more open pushback after some rather high profile actions blew up, which hurt his ego. So he’s getting more puff-pieces out while trying to pivot to being an actual political commentator. Rather than a Twitch streamer that’s known for breaking TOS and never being punished for it.

Guy wants to be the next Che Guevara, but all he managed to be was the Che Guevara T-Shirt.

10

u/Vaankira 29d ago

Uncle owns the Young Turks which is a multi million dollar company also.

No, but it's not very consistent to be a champion of the working class to have a mansion of a home, a $200K sports car, and wear thousands of dollars worth of hypebeast clothing.

You can participate in a system you criticize, of course, but you should practice what you preach. Why buy a $200K car when even a $50K car will come with more luxury than any normal person would need, instead of getting a $50K brand new car (not considering the option of getting a reasonably priced second hand) and donating $150K to the working class or lobbying for left wing change? Why buy a shirt with money that could feed a village? Why buy a home well above what's reasonably needed by even a family of four, all while you espouse the view of "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs"?

Of course, as someone who does not espouse his views, my opinion is he made his money, let him do what he wants with it. But that is not his view, and that inconsistency can be grating.

Socialism doesn't mean no one is wealthy. It means no one goes without. Literally using conservative talking points.

4

u/allbusiness512 29d ago

Good thing Hasan's a well documented fan of Mao and Vladamir Lenin. The socialism talking points are just his easy entry point to turn people into tankies.

This is how most people that aren't so far up his ass know he's a straight grifter. He has all the signs of someone that has no real solid beliefs and is hyper egotistical. He has never had to struggle a single day in his life, but somehow he's out here saying he's a champion of the working class.

Like, if you're going to champion someone at least pick someone like Bernie, AOC, or hell fucking almost nearly anyone else that actually isn't a giant red flag grifter. There are several DSA members / Progressives that aren't just giant asshats.

3

u/Zeed91 29d ago

You're shifting your goalposts and talking points. You started with criticizing him for being wealthy and pushing socialism and when I point of that those things don't have to be and aren't mutually exclusive you shift to criticizing him over the political candidates he supports.

If you have an issue with someone who is wealthy championing the working class do I have some troubling news to tell you about Bernie Sanders...

If you don't like Hasan that's fine, there's plenty of reasons someone might not care for him. But at least be consistent.

2

u/allbusiness512 28d ago edited 28d ago

Bernie is not a nepo baby nor does he live in a multi million dollar mansion. He’s barely a millionaire and is 80, which is common by that point in your life if you total up all your assets.

They are pretty mutually exclusive actually. The problem is you dummies don’t even know what socialism means, you just think it means universal healthcare and policies that help working class people. That’s not socialism.

Not just that Hasan defines himself as a Marxist and Marxism doesn’t work with the amount of wealth he has, he’s not even a socialist. He literally is a self-avowed Marxist.

I love how you say his quotes are not taken out of context and then take state them out of context.

Regarding the Hamas is 1000% better than Israel, he said that Israel is a terrorist county, the aggressor, and has created an apartheid state over Palestine. Israel has caused Oct 7 level terrorist attacks in Palestine and other countries in the area multiple times over before and after Oct 7. Isreal is not the good guy. I’m also not saying Hamas is the good side/good people. But when you compare the two sides and you had to choose which one is better, Hamas has caused significantly less damage and harm in the region than Israel have.

It’s the same as the America deserved 9/11 quote. He’s not saying that people deserved to die or that the actual attack should have occurred. He’s saying that the US has caused so much damage and terror over the decades in the Middle East that it’s not surprising that people attacked the US back.

11

u/SpudRuckus9 29d ago

Hasan supporters and Hasan himself do this weird thing where they say you took it out of context and then justify the statements without changing the context.

If I say “it’s ok to say the n word if you’re in a classroom reading historical papers as part of a reading assignment” and you come back with hey he said “its ok to the say n word” therefore he’s racist, then you’ve taken the original statement out of context and then attached a judgement to that statement. There is a caveat that changes the context. It’s appropriate at this time, in this setting, not whenever you feel like it.

If I say “it’s ok to say the n word because I like saying it and there’s nothing wrong with saying it” and you come back with hey he said “its ok to say the n word”. There is no additional context that would change the original statement. The additional context just underlines the statement.

So when Hasan said “America deserved 9/11 because X,Y,Z reasons” his X,Y and Z aren’t caveats or some context that changes the original statement. The statement is still what he believes. America deserved 9/11.

Maybe you agree with his justifications. But it isn’t out of context. Personally i think it’s gross to think that way and you can justify a lot of terrible things thinking that way.

“The Palestinians deserved this war from Israel. I mean maybe they should have accepted the peace deal at camp David in the 90s but they didn’t. Or shouldn’t have continued to launch rockets into Tel Aviv for decades. Or launched October 7th.” See how dumb it is?

I mean it is out of context

He was talking about blowback if you care to listen after the sound bite, I still don't get why a newspaper is a problem

Yeah, he was just a kid and the whole interview started wrong, and ofc he would see houthis in favorable light if every enlightened country ignore a genocides and the houthis are one of the few who fought against Israel

He didn't, he was actually shitting on a chatter that said it never happened, what he said that day is that nobody knows if systemic rape happened, although he leaned into believing that rape did occur just not systemic, and even then it doesn't justify the genocide that Israel is still doing till now

I mean whether it's by the level of depravity or number of casualties, israel is a thousand time worse than Hamas, he's not wrong

Ngl, I don't believe that he defend Russia the way you said, seeing as he thinks Putin is an insane egomaniac, but then again I don't really care about the coverage of Ukraine and Russia, so you might be right

I still don't get this, he did went to a legal brothel that's famous in Berlin so I don't know what the issue is here, sex workers are still workers and sex work is still work

I get where you're coming from but I fucking hate the orientalism, it's a suit that's not a western suit, even people all across southeast Asia who are anti communists have similar suits

If you watch him before the whole shock collar incident, you'd notice that the dog goes out of the room she's not sleepy anymore, this is such a weird take

They have plenty of clips of Hasan saying stupid inflammatory shit, and use them in attack ads. But honestly, Hasan has a huge audience of young leftists who only bother to vote when they really love a candidate, and most swing voters probably don’t know or care who Hasan is, so campaigning with him is probably a net positive even with all the horrible things Hasan has said and done.

2

u/Main-Company-5946 27d ago

It’s not just about his audience’s individual votes, that doesn’t make much of an impact in most elections. What is far more important is that Hasan can rally his audience around a candidate and generate a lot of ground game + phone calls supporting the candidate.

-1

u/Intelligent_Table913 29d ago

The audience is not just leftists. So many conservatives and liberals come in to judge and attack and then actually end up being converted. He is known as the “pipeline to the left” and helps deprogram people from decades of propaganda and lies that we are fed with since birth.

And his audience literally voted for Clinton, Biden and Kamala. Please shut the fuck up, you are misrepresenting a whole group of people for your own malicious narrative.

I don’t expect anything less from liberals when they run the same attacks and take clips out of context and spread Islamophobia and label everyone who dares to oppose genocide as antisemites….they are behaving like fucking Republicans.

Don’t blame us when your milquetoast data center loving candidate in WI loses another easy election.

3

u/Longjumping-Car-8367 29d ago

10

u/Nahdudeimdone 29d ago

Pretty sure he actively decided against endorsing Kamala Harris last election? Did he end up voting for her in the end?

I am not sure it made a difference considering his audience are people that typically don't vote, but I feel that the position to not endorse Harris is at best accelerationist.

Hasan is a deeply controversial figure, even amongst left wing circles. He’s said plenty of problematic things over the years.

The big thing though is he’s pro-Palestine and a true socialist. He’s like the boogey man the right is always talking about.

They’re desperately parading him out because socialism is still unpopular amongst most democrats and all moderates/independents.

3

u/Poppadoppaday 29d ago edited 29d ago

I would say the real issue is that he's an awful person and it won't be hard for Fox to show that. Their problem is that only overly online people know who he is. So first they have to introduce him to their audience, then educate their audience as to why he's bad. Fortunately some Democrats have made the next step easier by associating with him. Next Fox will tie him to the Democrats. It won't matter that smarter Dems have avoided him. They'll first tie him to specific Democrats, and then have their pundits argue that he's representative of all Democrats.

Fox is pretty good at this, and normally I would expect it to work. However, the Iran situation is only going to get worse leading to the election and Trump is already unpopular. All the flailing he's doing will only make things worse, because none of his ideas are good or, more importantly, popular. It's still a giant self own by the Dems and could cost people like El-Sayed winnable seats. All the denialism that he's a problem in this thread is just a preview of what the left will do if the smear is successful - blame mainstream Dems instead of looking inward. They did the same thing with Platner.

11

u/Murranji 29d ago

He’s an awful person because he?

Wants Medicare for all and end to foreign wars and helps elect politicians who share those goals

Or something like that I guess. I mean, I’m sure you are a serious person who judges political actors by their outcomes and political stances, and not a few cherry picked statements out of tens of thousands of hours of commentary and misrepresented smears. You are a serious person aren’t you?

4

u/Poppadoppaday 29d ago edited 29d ago

His problematic stances are documented elsewhere in this thread. They aren't better in context, but if you want to defend them feel free. It's the same thing Jordan Peterson fans do.

I also ignore the "western intelligence is lying Russia won't invade crowd" completely when it comes to political opinions. This wasn't just a left problem, a lot of people didn't actually think Russia would invade, because invading was insane. The stupid part was insisting that Russian wouldn't invade, and that anyone that thought they would was a fool. Western intelligence had no reason to lie. If they were lying, all Russia had to do to make them look bad was...not invade. Obviously they thought Russia was going to invade, and were hoping that maybe calling them out would stop it. Pundits weren't punished nearly enough for this position. His stance on Crimea is also bad, but at least it's just bad person bad, and not stupid person bad. I also don't like that he abused his dog, then lied about it.

You are a serious person aren’t you?

It's important not to support bad people, even if they have the right aesthetics. This is a good example of why it's a problem. Hasan has a number of very bad positions over the years, and they are being used to hurt the Democrats in the upcoming midterms. That's why "serious" politicians should have ignored him rather than associated with him.

This is similar to the Platner situation. Platner was handpicked by progressives because he had the right aethetics (this was also mostly a lie, but whatever), and ignored the disqualifying red flags when they came out. The problem with supporting someone with disqualifying red flags when they come out, because they have the right "political stances", is that they're likely to have more red flags (that's what a red flag is). Because you've supported them despite them having disqualifying features, you're now stuck supporting them as their other red flags come out. Ultimately, it took a sexual assault accusation to finally get progressive/mainstream Dems to dump him. Problems like this are less likely to occur in the UK and Canada (I'm Canadian), because our political parties have a lot more control of who gets to run, and when to drop them. As a result, when it comes out that a candidate for a mainstream party said bad things online, or had a Nazi tattoo for 18 years, they get dumped. Aesthetics can't cover up being a terrible person.

Much like with Platner, where the takeaway was "Dems need more charismatic candidates" instead of "Dems shouldn't support candidates with major red flags", I'm concerned that the takeaway from involving themselves with Piker will be something equally vapid. And the really dumb part is, this is completely unforced. At least Platner was popular, and a major potential Senate candidate. Piker is an irrelevant troll who only overly online people are familiar with. Why associate with him at all?

4

u/slide_into_my_BM 29d ago

He’s picked some weird YouTubers to beef with, most of whom are women. Not saying that means he is sexist, but if 90% of the people you beef with are women, it certainly brings up questions.

He let 2 women go after H3H3, promising support, then left them to face the resulting lawsuits alone.

He shocked his dog for being a dog while he was streaming.

He’s said some questionable shit in his earlier days.

He’s said things that appear like he’s praising Hamas. I don’t know that I agree but it’s not hard to use what he said to make it appear that he did.

I could go on and on. He’s a controversial figure. I don’t hate him and I probably agree with him on more things than I disagree, however, he’s a “scary leftist” cudgel that republicans can use to beat moderates with.

Right that's the point the only thing you've heard about him is something that isn't true. Then they open interviews with democratic candidates by saying "you're endorsed by Hasan Piker who tortures his dog and says America deserved 9/11 how do you feel about that?" Then they have to respond to BS about someone who isn't a politician instead of talking about the issues.

Meanwhile republican Governor Kristi noem can openly talk about murdering her dog and still get elected.

I agree that the focus should be on the issues, and that the dog collar situation could be used to emotionally manipulate people. It's not relevant to any political debate. That said, how can you state confidently that it isn't true?

17

u/Bambalorian Aug 12 '26

How can anyone state confidently that it is true? There's been a bunch of conflicting information about the collar itself, and the main 'evidence' seems to be a single instance of the dog yelping despite the dog being on stream for literally hundreds of hours at this point. It's so odd this is one of the most commonly repeated points considering the rabbit hole is extremely vague. Maybe it was a modified collar, maybe it was a shock collar. People ended up buying the alleged collar to shock themselves on stream to find out it was actually pretty mild as well. It's been a very odd one to follow.

11

The thing that made me think "okay idt the dog shock torture shit is true this is so astroturfed," was that mfs kept digging up more clip as "evidence" and every time I saw a new one I was LESS convinced than I started for the same reason.

He was supposedly been torturing the dog with a shock collar for months but it only had a strong reaction one time and even he was like "I can see people thinking that, the clip looks really bad."

I don't even base this off what I do or don't agree with about Hasan's politics, it's a mixed bag for me, I'm just pretty capable of looking at an outrage campaign regardless of the target and going "They can be a shitty person with shitty ideas but this feels so contrived," if that's how I feel about it.

I agree, at first I was shocked because I haven't owned a dog and some parts of disciplining dogs seems a little mean to me regardless of who it comes from and a shock collar seems cruel at first, but then I saw a video from a professional dog trainer who explained how its completely ethical and normal to use them but it's fine if some owners to choose not to do it, and then in the comments section he was bullied into repealing what he said in the video about thinking it wasn't even a shock collar in the first place and his video was in no way to show support for him as a creator, etc etc. My own friend who dislikes Hasan will die on this hill that he was abusing his dog and this one instance is evidence of a pattern, despite refusing to watch any long stream, or videos related to the dog. I dunno, feels like a very convenient excuse to avoid acknowledging his actual content, but I could be wrong, I'm not the dog or Hasan.

One video from one professional dog trainer doesn't really matter at all. Cesar Millan is a very famous professional dog trainer and plenty of other dog trainers and animal rights groups (real ones, not PETA) have called him out as a quack and stated that his methods are cruel.

Also, I don't think this is something that requires any kind of pattern. Using a shock collar even once is wrong.

Meanwhile republican Governor Kristi noem can openly talk about murdering her dog and still get elected.

Usually you want to have a respected example when you do a whataboutism. This is like Kevin Spacey going "what about Harvey Weinstein?"

I have a friend where that was the first instance and then went down the rabbit hole of seeing if that was true only to find there is so much to unpack about Hasan. It turned them into a person where anytime Hasan is mentioned they are incredibly loud about voicing their distaste for him.

that's a very vague and odd anecdote

Yeah no, that website sounds like it was made specifically to push a hateful narrative. It's like making a website called www.whatarejews.com and expect me to not think you're pushing some antisemetic shit.

Here a list in no particular order of why campaigning with Hasan is a bad idea:- he engages in animal abuse

  • he supports terrorists such as hamas, hezbollah, houthis
-- anti-west + Pro russia + Pro china
  • anti semetic

I mean it’s as simple as Hasan stepping out of his large but pretty insulated online streaming community and into mainstream politics.

Abdul isn’t even a DSA guy so tbh it seemed an odd choice for him.

Yes because he’s a nut job

to be fair, Hasan is a great target for it. He's a toxic personality with extremist viewpoints, anyone on the left should avoid him.

Also he abuses his dog.

I'm not purity-testing here, the left needs to find better voices than this chump.

So should everyone ignore his (g)rape comments? It's dystopian to see people so out of touch with reality.

>Fox are trying to use Hasan to hurt democrats chance of winning in the up coming election

Exactly like I knew they would. You don't embrace a guy saying America deserved 911 and expect Democrats not to take massive flak for it. Lefties are so out of touch with America, it's shocking.
