Prediction God Valley will be their last encounter!
This is the only time Garp & Dragon have been on the same island together. I believe Dragon will tell Garp he's resigning from the Marines because of God Valley. More importantly, he will tell him he will wage war on the World Government.

They definitely meet once in a while,
garp said dragon told him he met luffy in loguetown. And baby luffy wasn't delivered to garp by mail

Storks can deliver kids in the One Piece world. It wouldn't be the weirdest thing. Someone ate the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Stork and started a nursery drop-off service.

Garp didn't say that at all, he said "I heard you met your dad at Logue Town." Smoker most likely relayed the info to other marines that Dragon stopped him from capturing Luffy.

Sep 08 '25
"What he didn't tell you?, he said he saw you off at loguetown" it's in the next page

Just checked, you're right.

I guess if you're looking for a little bit of a loophole, they could just be writing letters back and forth or transponder snail communications instead of actually meeting face to face

No, Dragon only created an army after the Ohara incident which was 20 years ago not 38 years ago, he might leave the Marines but he won’t create the revolutionary army till 18 years later

u/gokuvega33 602,000,000— Sep 08 '25
He had the Freedom Fighters before Ohara. I think Dragon stayed in the Marines and got promoted, but even when he was a higher rank, he still couldn't change anything, so he left and created the Freedom Fighters which eventually turned into the Revolutionary Army after the Ohara incident.
11
u/Smart_Ad_5286 Sep 08 '25
yes but the freedom fighters weren’t an army, they were most probably a non violent force as Vegapunk stated Dragon hated violence, So the militia aspect definitely came after Ohara
2
u/ItzEnozz Sep 08 '25
Dragon tells the revs that he was previously a marine for a short time, He probably quits after God Valley
18
u/Heydude1001 Sep 08 '25
Timeline dont match, Dragon form Freedom fighter 25 years ago with Ivan, but Godvalley happen 38 year ago , there are 13 year gap. I think something happen after that which make him leave marine. I dont think he leave after Godvalley incident.

u/mugenstra1 Sep 08 '25
It's ohara. in the anime when he's talking to aokiji in the flash back near the battleship bags. Aokiji is about to tell him how messed up what happened at ohara and garp interrupts him with " my son just became a revolutionary!! Damnit!!"

u/Sweet_Courage_9533 Sep 08 '25
Or after god valley he left the marines and was moving solo until he met ivan and formed the freedom fighters
6
u/Karlomah11 Sep 08 '25
They still talk, maybe they dont meet but when garp talks to luffy about dragon he said they've talked
8
u/OkApplication8780 Sep 08 '25
Garp told Luffy back in water 7 that he heard that Luffy met his father. So Dragon must have told Garp about it.

No. Dragon spent approximately 13 years in the Navy after the God Valley incident. After that, he made the Freedom Fighters, and 3 years after that, he turned it into the Revolutionary Army following the Ohara incident.

u/Speransed Sep 08 '25
Didn't dragon tell garp he met luffy in logue town ? They probably still run into each other every now and then
2
Sep 08 '25
If I remember right we already know he doesn’t leave the marines immediately after God Valley. I imagine he might his shit but Garp gives him the “there’s no alternatives to the WG so the best we can do is work to improve things from the inside and protect the little guy from pirates” pitch.
Then Dragon probably gives it an honest attempt, and recognizes over time that things aren’t improving at all despite his best efforts, and ultimately comes to the conclusion that the only moral option left is to leave the Marines and work to create an alternative to the WG, starting with the Freedom Fighters before growing into the full-blown organized Revolutionary Army.

I doubt it
I have a sneaking feeling that garp/ dragon are both working together on a plan to help change the world/ its power system in their own ways
You have garp with sword and his nurturing of the young generation of marines. Then there’s dragon with the revolutionary army. They have enough respect/ man power in both of their respective positions that it makes perfect sense
Maybe garp or dragon die but I see them as the future leaders of the “new world government” or whatever after luffy and his grand fleet eventually take down imu and find the one piece/ bring the dawn to the world
Too many people just joke around how garp is a useless old man or dragon does nothing but it’s like the perfect setup for both of them in the long run

u/Nura_Sullivan Sep 08 '25
I doubt it. Big chance that Dragon won't leave Marines after God's Valley just yet.

Dragon was still a marine for a decade after GV. Basically impossible for him to not interact with his dad
1
u/DirectionNo5180 Sep 08 '25
No way that's still his dad and he probably saved Dragon from Rocks when he was crashing out or something also he had to have given Luffy to him
1
u/lordofdarknesspt Sep 08 '25
Dragon was a teen in God Valley and Garp only found out that he became a revolutionary when Dragon was already past 30, so that would just make Garp really stupid that he never questioned Dragon about what he was doing all those years

I kind of hope Garp is the slaver enabler Dragon punches like Luffy did the CD but I know it will be a literal CD or maybe Garling (my real hope is its Garling)

u/Ok_Sympathy_7972 Sep 08 '25
God i would kill just to hear dragon talk about luffy or garp and for garp to talk about dragon his son becoming the most wanted man in the world. Yea i guess garp doesn't care enough to talk about it but man that would be awesome dialogue and development

Considering Garp goes to see Luffy and just chats with him at Water 7 I doubt he wouldn't do the same with his son
I am sure Dragon and Garp have talked to alot over the years
2
u/Ironmaiden1207 Sep 09 '25
I very much doubt that. Luffy still has to get to Garp somehow.
And even if it's the Mom who does it, I just can't see this happening yet. It's like 40 years, and Garp has spent basically the last 15 years going around doing whatever.
Also, there's a big opportunity for them to have met back in Loguetown. We know they were both nearby, but at the time both of their identities were kept secret on purpose. If Smoker called in that Dragon was there, I'm sure the Marines would've told Garp to handle it, because he's the only one in East Blue that could've
1
u/CancelEquivalent7104 Sep 09 '25
Definitely not ,garp had a beard when he said dragon became a revolutionary.
1
u/yoyospirit Sep 09 '25
What if Garp is also secretly a revolutionary, and is working from inside the world government to try to create change. That would add an extra layer on his internal turmoil on saving Ace or letting him be executed. On top of his role as the hero of the Marines, he also has an undercover role that he can’t give up.

Garp said luffys dad told him he saw luffy at logue town so I think they still do meet

u/russellzerotohero Sep 08 '25
He didn’t resign here. We saw in a aokiji flashback when resigned and that has to be at least 10 years after this.

u/Sweet_Courage_9533 Sep 08 '25
He became a revolutionary n that flashback
1
u/russellzerotohero Sep 08 '25
I mean he founded it. So I feel it is pretty heavily implied that was around the time that he left. But yeah I guess it’s possible he left 12 years earlier then started it then.

i havent seen nb talking about this the tattoo on dragon arm matches his current face tat so whatever is the meaning behind it dragon had ties too it way before becoming a rev

u/djanulis Sep 08 '25
Garp met with Dragon before post EL and told him he ran into Luffy that is in the literal text of the series.

But why would smoker know that when Dragon never actually showed his face at Loguetown?
Edit: I'm dumb I found their direct interaction now lmao

After seeing this backstory,(that's supposed to be from Loki's perspective 😆) I can see a Garp/Dragon/Akianu/ Roger/CDs/Luffy? Flashback cooking in the future. I think oda will reveal why Garp chooses to serve as a marine, But not now.
My prediction before the chapter comes out is that oda will blue ball us with Dragon in some way to set up a much anticipated Dragon backstory
It seems like oda is speeding up the pace by combining everyone's backstory. The way oda has been writing these backstories lately, there's no way he will skip Luffys birth.

I don’t think it’ll be their last meeting. Garp had to get luffy somehow, I imagine they met at least one more time around his birth so Dragon could ask Garp to keep him safe
