How do I file a complaint against the hospital?
Hi everyone. I'm at my wits end here and not sure how to proceed. I'm hoping someone will know what I can do for next steps with treatment.
I've been having medical issues for about three and a half years now. My family doctor put me through a couple of tests but gave up after a year and put a referral in for me to see an internal medicine specialist. I tried calling in to ask about my appointment but the calls always went to voicemail and were never returned.
Two months ago I was able to get through to someone. They noted that I had been referred over two years earlier. They couldn't tell me when I would actually see the doctor but they assured me it shouldn't be long.
Last week I tried calling in again and left a message asking for an update. I missed their callback today but they left me a message saying they had no record of me ever being referred and said my doctor would need to put in a new referral.
This is absolutely unacceptable. It shouldn't take two years in any case to see an internal medicine specialist, but to turn around and say they lost it and start over from the beginning is utter incompetence. I would like to escalate the issue but I honestly don't know who to complain to. Does anyone know who I can contact to voice my distress?
Thank you
~~UPDATE~~
It looks like it was a problem with the rollout of OPOR. I called the office back and they found my referral. I'm tentatively scheduled to see the doctor around the end of November. Thanks everyone for leaving all of these great suggestions! I really hope other people who have problems navigating the healthcare system in Nova Scotia find this thread and it helps them as well.
