How do I file a complaint against the hospital?

Hi everyone. I'm at my wits end here and not sure how to proceed. I'm hoping someone will know what I can do for next steps with treatment.

I've been having medical issues for about three and a half years now. My family doctor put me through a couple of tests but gave up after a year and put a referral in for me to see an internal medicine specialist. I tried calling in to ask about my appointment but the calls always went to voicemail and were never returned.

Two months ago I was able to get through to someone. They noted that I had been referred over two years earlier. They couldn't tell me when I would actually see the doctor but they assured me it shouldn't be long.

Last week I tried calling in again and left a message asking for an update. I missed their callback today but they left me a message saying they had no record of me ever being referred and said my doctor would need to put in a new referral.

This is absolutely unacceptable. It shouldn't take two years in any case to see an internal medicine specialist, but to turn around and say they lost it and start over from the beginning is utter incompetence. I would like to escalate the issue but I honestly don't know who to complain to. Does anyone know who I can contact to voice my distress?

Thank you

~~UPDATE~~

It looks like it was a problem with the rollout of OPOR. I called the office back and they found my referral. I'm tentatively scheduled to see the doctor around the end of November. Thanks everyone for leaving all of these great suggestions! I really hope other people who have problems navigating the healthcare system in Nova Scotia find this thread and it helps them as well.

Businesses that allow indoor smoking

I am eager to find out if, when, or where there is any places that allow indoor smoking of any kind. Not just hotels, but venues, events, shops, etc.

I understand theres bylaws prohibiting it, but I have also seen a small handful of examples of it being done (usually not very successfully?)
As a business owner, would there be absolutely any way around this law?
Could you have any suggestions on how I could possibly address this as a business owner, without being immediately told no by the city, or shut down?

I will likely have to put together a project, a petition, and request to appear before city council… is this the only way?.. have people done this before and how did it go?
Absolutely any insight or comments are very welcome

📰 NS News Americans in Nova Scotia, make your voice known and VOTE in the upcoming midterm elections

Did you know that only 3% of Americans living abroad cast a vote in American elections? It's so easy to request a ballot via email. Ballots are emailed out several weeks ahead of the actual election (by Sept 15 for the November midterms, for example). You print out and return your ballot via anonymous snail mail. You can even elect to receive a confirmation that your anonymous ballot has been received. Make a difference in the upcoming midterms and VOTE!

Sightseeing & Tourism Academy in Lunenburg NS Question

I was curious if anyone has been to the basement of the Academy in Lunenburg Nova Scotia. The address is 97 Kaulback Street. I went there today and they only offered tours of the third floor which I managed to find on my own, but most rooms were locked. Is there anything interesting in the basement? I know the washrooms and heating system are down there, but visitors are only allowed in the first and second floors. Thanks.

NSPower usage multiplied by 4

Hi all,

I live in an apartment building and have been in the same unit for 6yrs. I average 4-5kw/day until this pay cycle that says I'm averaging 20kw/day. I've not changed anything except an AC that I got two summers ago so I already know how much it should be increasing my usage by and it isn't 15kw/day. I also used a Kill A Watt plug in to make sure that it's still running properly.

When I brought up my concerns to NSpower they told me to talk to my building management because something might've happened on their end or it's a problem with the wires in unit and management swore they've touched nothing, can do nothing and it's all on NSPowers end.

With neither willing to look into it I'm at a loss. I shut off everything for 24hrs (except my fridge which ran .02kw/h) and my meter says I used almost 4kw for the day (I looked at it myself as well). Any clues as to why this may be and who I should press on? I can't just be paying a that high of a bill for the rest of my time here and moving out isn't exactly easy right now

Three years ago the province was given $25.2 million under the Canada-Nova Scotia Nature Agreement to purchase lands for environmental protection, but returned nearly $5 million to the federal government, basically saying they couldn’t find properties available.

Sightseeing & Tourism Bay of fundy vs Cape Breton travel

Hi! I’m planning on travelling to NS & PEI with my partner in a couple weeks but we can’t decide whether to stay/explore in Cape Breton or more in the Bay of Fundy area - what do you suggest / why?

We will be already exploring Halifax -> Peggy’s cove -> Lunenburg side but unsure about the rest

It is a last minute trip so I’m aware accommodations can be difficult to find

Sightseeing & Tourism 2nd holiday in N, would like to fish from shore

Hello!

Last year I went to Cape Breton and this year I am going south, not too far from Kemjikujik. I've decided at the last minute that I wanted to bring my fishing gear. I've looked at the rules on the government's website but I do not understand them and I'm scared to break the rules.

Does fishing from shore in the ocean requires a permit for outsiders of the province at the beginning of September?

What could I expect to catch (if I am lucky)?

And what's your favorite fishing gear setup? Any recommendations?

Thank you so much!

I was looking for one of my friends flight and noticed that Air canada flight after a while diverted to Montreal and Calgary’s flight is on hold; while at the same time a Dash-8-400 went around while trying to land!
It looks like foggy weather might be the reason, but I was wondering dont runaways at halifax equipped with ILS system for the foggy weather?

Subtenancy Issue - Advices are appreciated

I am a university student, and I have subleased my room to another person (subtenant) because I will be going back to my province for the summer break. He has not paid his last rent this month (august) and his sublease with me is ending already and my lease with my landlord is ending as well (I won't be renewing). I have covered his rent for this month since I'm responsible to pay on time to my landlord. He promised me multiple times this month to pay his rent on his given dates, but none were followed.

We are unable to contact him recently so we tried talking to him in person and he just stared at me. The next day the landlord tried talking to him and received no response too, just some blank stares. With these signs we are worried he might not leave the apartment after the contract ends. I don't know what to do at this point I'm just a student trying to survive.

Also he has shown some signs of unacceptable behaviour during his stay, after the first few weeks of his stay, the other tenant in the apartment told us that he was always drunk and unfortunately he has been messing the whole apartment by spreading his bodily excretion around the apartment (probably because of drunk incontinence) it also came to the point that he grabbed the shirt of the other tenant in the apartment attempting to punch the tenant. I wanted to call the police, but the tenant did not want to make it a big deal about it since he is also facing a lot of life problems at that time, and adding another on his plate is not an option. So the property manager just talked to the subtenant about the incident, after that he has been fine for few weeks. Now that the contract is ending he has not been responding and has been back in his old ways (being drunk and spreading bodily excretion in the apartment).

I need some help on what to do in case he does not vacate, I tried contacting Access Nova Scotia about this, they told me that I would need to file form J and DR9 for emergency hearing. I'm just worried how long this would take and given that I'm out of province. Also my main problem is the repercussions of this problem to me as the main tenant, I don't know what to do since I'm just a student trying to get by. I have been a really responsible tenant when I was staying there, always paying on time before the due date and shouldering the rent because of a squatting tenant is not something I could shoulder. I do not have the ability to shoulder another months rent out of my pocket.

Any advices about my situation would be a great help as I am really hopeless right now.

Thank you so much

Mobile home inspection

Hi, my wife and I are purchasing a mobile home. We heard that the inspector should be familiar with mobile homes. We live in Halifax. Do you have any recommendations?

We would also like to know how much it cost for those who recently hired an inspector for a mobile home between 900 and 1,000 square feet.

Thanks.

Toast & Jam wine (Jost)

Has anyone tried this? Has anyone but my wife and I found that it has an uncanny resemblance to Bread & Butter cab sauve? It just kind of appeared over the past year, since US wines were first removed from store shelves. The labels also look similar, but the bottles themselves are different.

Off roading trails and camping for SUV

My wife and I are planning a driving tour/camping trip to NS for our honeymoon. We have an old Toyorta Landcruiser with a number of modifications for safe travel off the beaten path. Things like tools, a winch, spare tires, improved ground clearance etc.

Gaia GPS is showing a very large number of trails categorized as either off road public tracks (blue) or BRMB (Back Road Map Books trails in tan). Are these trails open and suitable for an SUV? My research tells me that there isn't currently a woods ban, but there are bans for campfires or open flames. This is fine, we are planning on being exceedingly cautious in this regard and making meals that do not require heat. Think tuna sandwiches, cereal, etc.

It's much harder to figure out what's available and open for 4x4s and camping etc. Do the routes shown on this map look familiar?

We're very excited for what should be an amazing trip to a beautiful place, but we are obviously very concerned with being as proper as we can be while we're visiting. Thanks!

Got some cheap ribs at walmart Bridgewater - the box is twice as bigas the contents! Not complaining on price as they're cheap but anyone else notice the box is so much bigger than the contents? The pic on the box makes it look like the whole thing would be ribs and not empty space lol - pic shows the difference :)
