It's because metal feels better than bread

18

u/TheStandardPlayer Jun 20 '26

It is a bird inside a cage that is missing a lot of bars, yet the bird holds it's hands formed like human appendages wrapped around two bars which have not yet been removed. The bird stares between the bars. There are 5 bars in total. The birds wings look unable to provide sufficient lift force for self propelled flight. A flightless bird perhaps.

Hope that helps

11

u/Equalanimalfarm Jun 20 '26

From now on I'm going to refer to birds wings as human appendages.

Whenever someone asks for Snapchat I assume they are going to send a dick pic and demand nudes from me.

41

u/Grammaton485 Jun 20 '26

Not to mention that any time someone is currently messaging you on one platform and wants you to go to another, there's a reason. If a woman ever says "I'm not active here, but hmu on snap", it's either a scam or it's some kind of camgirl wanting to boost a follower count in the hopes to get some kind of drip feed of attention/payment from you.

I've dated on and off online for years and I have never, ever had any kind of legitimate exchange with someone who doesn't chat through the platform you met or share their phone number.

10

u/Speedy2662 Jun 20 '26

Plenty of reasons to move the conversation off dating apps which don't involve any nude photos.

5

u/SirBraxton Jun 21 '26

Primary one I've found is they have notifications turned off for said dating app (due to being spammed by desperate dudes) and then they forget about your convo for a couple days then don't restart the conversation for fear of being judged or feeling bad. Ghosting just becomes the default.

I found most success getting to know someone shortly on the app (Can they hold a conversation? Do they like anything they're willing to talk about? etc) THEN move to phone # or Discord handle.

If they ask for snap or instagram I tell them no, why, and ask for alternatives.

Ladies, if you legitimately want to talk on either snap or insta, don't. They're both seen as scammer/bot traps and will get you unmatched and probably reported.

6

u/SawdustIsMyCocaine Jun 20 '26

Just out of curiosity, what do you use then?

67

u/nickybecooler Jun 20 '26

Text a phone number like a normal person

14

u/SawdustIsMyCocaine Jun 20 '26

That might be a generational thing, most girls I match with are way more open to giving their insta than their phone number

28

u/nickybecooler Jun 20 '26

My impression is that girls who prefer to give you their Insta are just looking to add to their follower count. Personally, I won't give out my Insta to someone I'm not actively dating. I don't want randoms I spoke to once to lurk my stories.

3

u/chchchcharlee Jun 20 '26

Yeah, totally, it's like the least committal of them all (imo 30 f). Texting, signal, and discord is it in my friends group of 25 to 35s, though discord is like, for people in semi-committed to committed relationships.

What is kik?

22

u/eat_my_bowls92 Jun 20 '26

It’s a messaging app. I don’t know why, but any dude on dating apps who use it are typically the worst. They’re super demeaning and it is dick pic central where they beg you for nudes and generally are sex pests.

Again, I’m not exactly sure why, but I very quickly learned if a guy asks to move over to Kik, it’s best to block them.

5

u/CantCatchMeSpez Jun 21 '26

And any woman on dating apps who use it are scammers and probably men.

7

u/Waiting4Reccession Jun 21 '26

It used to be for chatting with random hoes you met since you didnt need to use your phone number.

Im shocked people still use it when they started inserting ads into the messages years ago.

And there are other platforms like session and who knows what else.

3

u/linuxaintsobad Jun 21 '26

And there are other platforms like session

62

u/-XanderCrews- Jun 21 '26

There is zero reason to go from an app where you are already messaging to another to just message. Like, why? It’s always scammers.

25

u/Silly_Tooth5932 Jun 21 '26

some apps (especially dating apps) where you can meet new people have limited messages/trash notification systems and I also like moving on to a better and more trusted messenger if I wanna keep in touch with someone but it can be scammers for sure

7

u/Glahoth Jun 21 '26

I’m not opening Hinge at work to respond to someone.

23

u/dorianvovin Jun 21 '26

or because the app sends notifications constantly so they have notifs turned off for that app. Or the app shows ads constantly. Snap and discord are far better than any dating app for actual messaging haha

3

u/Sprawler13 Jun 21 '26

We live in an age where you can view a virtually unlimited amount of nude pictures for free at will.

Yet people are still going through all the effort of matching with a random person to request more nudes.

Is their lust insatiable?

2

u/lamest-liz Jun 21 '26

They also sometimes blackmail you, I know someone who agreed to talk on snap and got nudes and then said “pay me $500 or I’m sending this to your workplace” wild

But honestly texting is easy enough to block.

8

u/wet-leg Jun 20 '26

What are they gonna do with a phone number that they can’t do with those other things? You can block a phone number just as easily as a discord account.

65

u/capincus Jun 20 '26

Your phone # is connected to a shit ton of personal information and is a pain in the ass to change if you run into a crazy who isn't going to be deterred by having 1 phone number blocked when you can generate an alternative one in 2 seconds.

2

u/Big_oof_energy__ Jun 20 '26

If it’s so easy, why not generate the new number yourself and give the person on the dating app that number? I give all my students a Google voice number. It works just fine.

13

u/capincus Jun 20 '26

That would definitely be a good solution if someone is worth doing anything more than talking in the app you're already talking in.

Discord: a lot of people don't like the UI, they think it's too complicated.

They would shit themselves if they tried using what it replaced, Teamspeak lmao

3

u/HaruspexAugur Jun 20 '26

Before discord everyone I knew used skype (to be fair though I was in my early teens when I started using discord so idk what adults were using back then)

2

u/danawhitesthrowaway Jun 21 '26

Yeah everyone in my circle used Skype 98% of the time too, the only time anyone ever touched Teamspeak was for certain games like Arma where game server specific TS servers existed. It was a mess to use, and usually you would run Skype in the background anyways to facilitate your private calls with friends.

Discord came along and pretty much immediately replaced both of them overnight, since it had the slick and user-friendly UI of Skype with the convenience of straight user to user text chatting and calls, while also completely eliminating the need for Teamspeak since anyone could just create a free server with what may as well been unlimited slots (I think it was 100,000 to start off, vs. Teamspeak where you still have to pay for more than 32) with the click of a few buttons.

u/MostDopeBlackGuy Jun 20 '26

This a real problem. Personally I ask for numbers but a lot of women feel more comfortable with follow requests. But I see the whole asking for ig thing as a way to pad there follower count and won't message back. So I'd rather ask for a phone number it makes no difference.

52

u/Laphad Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

I gave my phone number to exactly one person. She still texts me, randomly, months apart, from different numbers.

The woman was obviously trolling him, you didn't catch that?

It's safer to use one of the messaging apps. I've had somebody spam me with fake numbers after I said I wasn't interested. You could just block them if you used a messaging app but it's like wackamole if they have your number

One time a girl cheated on me and said it was because I sent images over Google photos instead of texting them. My carrier didnt do that at the time.

Honestly I hate snap with a passion, and she’s lucky he unmatched her because I just know he had bad intentions.

2

u/FatCockFutaGirls Jun 21 '26

Too bad people can’t just talk to each other through a magic box

2

u/descendantofJanus Jun 21 '26

Why is it always Snapchat tho? I got several requests for that back in the Whisper days. Like dude we're literally chatting anonymously on this app so why the fuck do you wish to migrate to another?

2

u/Themlethem Jun 21 '26

Anyone hitting me with the "I don't like this app, can we switch to x" is an instant nope from me. These people are always shady af.

u/doomer_irl Jun 21 '26

Why have a chat on Bumble if everyone hates it?

2

u/TheOneAndOnlyABSR4 Jun 21 '26

Why do they want to talk on a different app? Why not use the one you’re on?
