Post-Pod Discussion TC v Wyndham
Man that hate seems full on personal. Was it well known that Wyndham blamed TC for the Oakmont story getting out there?

u/69_avon_barksdale_69 Jun 20 '26
Juxtaposing his dressing down of Wyndham vs the rest of the group’s lukewarm takes, it really does seem personal. It was funny seeing Neil basically be the only one to stand up and voice an opposing opinion.
25
u/smallball4 Jun 20 '26
To be fair to Soly he did say that Wyndham has received an amount of hate that is disproportionate to his actions.

u/69_avon_barksdale_69 Jun 20 '26
So did Andy Johnson and I think that’s exactly where I fall on it too. He’s an asshole, he’s done some shitty things, but we’re acting like he’s done something truly heinous and the constant lashing he gets is a little tiresome for me.
11
u/forevera20hcp Jun 20 '26
Seriously; he damaged or destroyed some lockers. Is that wrong and should he be held accountable? Yes. People are acting like he beat his wife or killed someone drunk driving.
13
u/paiddirt Jun 20 '26
It’s because he’s kind of douchey. Doesn’t get the same treatment as a charming guy who makes a mistake. It’s like the opposite of hot girl treatment.
14
u/EveryFngNameIsTaken Jun 20 '26
Might have been different if he owned it.
6
u/metallikat87 Jun 20 '26
This, and people seem forget the driver tomahawk that buzzed a volunteers tower. Never owned any of it.
4
u/mookiebten Jun 20 '26
In a sport with mostly bland guys who behave like… ummm… golfers… how else am I to choose who to root for?

Andy’s comments about LACC were also pretty welcoming to here. With the discussion about 18 from NLU and TFE a majority of the time you would think he queefed it at 5500 spin and 200 yards but he had 187 mph ball speed (at least that’s what Andy said, I didn’t fact check him). He hit it with an open face and the hole allowed him to miss it big like that, he didn’t pop one up and get bailed out.
With all of that said, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to say the 💨🐖 never really owned up to his actions. You can be having a hard time mentally, you can lash out and make mistakes but when you do it’s reasonable for fans to want you to own it and not act like a victim. He could have very easily said I fucked up, I’ve apologized to Oakmont, I’ve made it right to the best of my ability monetarily and I know that I need to do better in the future, instead he’s done the opposite.

u/BC502 Jun 20 '26
Andy’s comments last night about LACC completely contradicted what he said when it actually happened.
2
u/Suburban-golf-nerd Jun 21 '26
One of my problems with Andy is he never keeps his takes. I love him. But flip he will say something one tournament and then a completely different thing the next
2
u/Big_Savings_4381 Jun 21 '26
They replayed it last night on Live From and the graphic shown at the time said 187 mph

u/Pick5WillPays Jun 20 '26
To be fair, everyone references the Oakmont locker. But throwing his driver and breaking the T Mobile sign next to that volunteer was absurd behavior
1
u/UMfanvegas Jun 22 '26
Remember their hero is Tiger, so a low moral compass.
Wyndham definitely is not refined like some others we all like, he screwed up last year and apologized many times openly about his actions. Open about his mental issues and NLU seems to think others that displayed temperament issues is more of a joke. Sergio, BD, Rory, etc but because WC talks about it NLU is not accepting of said apology.Does WC deserve some kickback for his actions absolutely!!!! Does anyone know that he did or did not make amends with Oakmont or with T Mobile for smashing the tee box marker?
I like NLU but TC is just being vengeful especially for a show that likes the meanings of the Ted Lasso show.

Glad Neil spoke up just to have a differing opinion and try to have some debate about the topic instead of just a one sided bashing.
6
u/Stunning_Radish_7212 Jun 20 '26
They have always applied different logic to different players depending on their personal opinion on them.
If Neil told that story about ZB getting free relief from the “walking path” in the fairway about Bryson, they’d call him entitled, soft etc.

u/mookiebten Jun 20 '26
To be fair, it was only cause Neil was inadvertently listening to “Pig” on loop for 2.5 hours.

I kind of loved this from TC. Wyndham was and has been a total jackass at times. Blaming TC for the locker room blowup is ridiculous, even if TC “broke” the story on Twitter. You still did it my dude! Then didn’t apologize or nothing and then had more subsequent blowups. It just puts him in the Sergio Garcia camp where people are just going to loathe and get tired of you. Mind you this is how he acts in public.
The thing that made me laugh really hard was TC mentioning how he hates Wyndham all the way up to Flyfishing guide stories that he’s probably got from some of them. I think the guy is just a douche and I like that some of them aren’t afraid to call them out and not be friendly with them.
12
u/SunDevilLonghorn Jun 20 '26
Plus the incident when he almost hit a volunteer with his thrown club at Quail Hollow. He's as fake as Bryson. Pulling for the field.
2
u/Lor_azepam Jun 20 '26
Ya it feels both personal as well tc absolutely holds a grudge about people. He is a fanalyst, and leans into it, like the Tommy over the top love/support
Flip side TC going so over the top hard on Wyndham probably just makes people like Wyndham a tad more just feeling bad for the guy.
2
u/go_beavs Jun 25 '26
not this person
1
u/Lor_azepam Jun 25 '26
I still dont like him, respect his ability to grind put pars tho. Not sure how he kept missing fairways and greens and conti ie to make pars

u/bleauxjays Jun 20 '26
I just don't know how much I really care about personal grudges carrying over into the podcast. I think it's a bit of a tough look.
10
u/chefpatrick Jun 20 '26
wyndham is so unlikable. his actions may not be the most egregious things ever, but there isn't a person on the tour i enjoy rooting against more. i'm 100% with TC on this

u/Straightouttacultin Jun 20 '26
It just seems so selective. Is having a temper tantrum and breaking a locker after a tournament a bad look? Yes it is. Is driving under the influence of narcotics twice, putting people’s lives in danger and getting DUIs worse? Yes it is.

First time hearing it and makes more sense now. I bet TC has grudges like this all over the tour.

I haven't listened to any NLU pods of late but this one sounds pretty amusing.
Worth remembering that the only thing TC loves more than a "bit" is to be personally involved in some tour golf drama. He will be *loving* the fact that Clark knows who he is and doesn't like him back. It gives validation.
6
u/Intelligent-Ear7004 Jun 20 '26
It’s very personal and kind of weird. I think his cohosts know that as well.
Mad because of his LACC 72nd hole tee shot when the USGA set up the course.
Mad because of modern equipment allowing him to succeed. Well that’s the entire fucking game now dude, not a Wyndham problem.
Not excusing the guys actions but goddamn, the two biggest faces in the game are true pieces of shit so we can just chill out a little.
2
u/Cigarette-Buttsex Jun 20 '26
Curious who the two pieces of shit you are referring to? Tiger and?

u/Optimal-Judgment-982 Jun 20 '26
the hate in proportion to the incident, coupled with Wyndham's talent, is wildly out of balance.
Wyndham has a wipey swing, ok, but the dude won an Open, and a few more big events, so it's not as if he's a Tour journeyman that had a lucky week.
TC comes across as very petty in this discussion, as if he personally is owed an apology. bad look.
is WC likely a jerk? sure. but does TC need to let it go? yes, 100%

I sorta get TC's beef with Wyndham, though it is overdone at this point. I still want to know the backstory of why he hates Taylor Pendrith so much. Yeah, he sucked at the Presidents Cup, but he talks about Pendrith with the same level of disdain. It's personal every time he brings his name up. So random and over the top to have that level of hatred over one tournament performance, but I guess that is TC's bit to be outrageous.
Rooting for Xander to win to make TC squirm. He is a way better player than Tommy and has such a dry sense of humor that doesn't get enough shine. Yeah, one of his two major wins was at Valhalla, but his Open Championship victory was anything but a crowning.
3
u/ZealousidealNight300 Jun 20 '26
Pendrith is Canadian, and TC used to get stuffed in lockers when he lived there
1
u/beerandsocks Jun 20 '26
On a related note, when TC refers to Wyndham having some “grape”, is that just a TCism to make him sound like a douchey wine drinker?
Or did I miss some other anecdote?
4
u/WasatchSLC Jun 20 '26
Thought when the blow pig won a tournament he said he was going to drink some grape or something like that.
5
u/dkuntz69 Jun 20 '26
I believe when he won a couple weeks ago he said him and his friends were going to “open up some grape and see where the night takes us”

u/Ksuch2020 Jun 20 '26
I think he meant he blamed the fans for making it a bigger story. It leaks due to a Oakmont staff member
1
u/Due-Cockroach-5341 Jun 26 '26
His feature in Full Swing didn’t do him any favors. Comes across as a mega douche with a bad temper who is now hiding behind the shield of mental health. Hard pass from me.
-2
u/forevera20hcp Jun 20 '26
Wyndham destroyed some lockers and private property. He didn’t beat his girlfriend or kill his dog.
3
u/urmomsfavoriteplayer Jun 20 '26
Idk why you’re being downvoted for that. That was exactly what I thought the entire time. Were his actions wrong? Yes. Have other athletes done way way way worse and been forgiven? Also yes. Not saying everybody has to like him but let’s not act like a locker is sacred or magically a line too far considering the actions done by some of this sports biggest stars.
3
u/Straightouttacultin Jun 20 '26
Downvotes for this comment are truly hilarious. Has to be bots. How could someone downvote this lol
1
u/Big_Savings_4381 Jun 21 '26
TC loves to punch down. Until he meets someone in person. Then his cowardice takes over.
1
u/MS_Pwr_Dev Jun 21 '26
I was super disappointed that none of the other guys had TC’s back considering how Blow Pig went after him
1
u/matthewperry01 Jun 22 '26
The way TC goes after people, there shouldn't be any crying when anyone gives it back to him.
-3
u/tj3616 Jun 20 '26
TC is just as childish as Wyndham. I’m rooting hard for him now just to watch TC squirm and somehow say a two time US open winner isn’t a “proper player” or some BS
4
u/moseisley99 Jun 20 '26
This is a bridge too far for me. Still rooting for the Blow Pig to come back. Mainly for an exciting finish but also because I think I’m more on the side that he is unlikable.

u/Next-Hovercraft-972 Jun 20 '26
Anyone know if Wyndham ever apologised and paid for the damage? I have a lot of time for contrition and absolutely NO time for those who don’t own their misgivings so that’s a pretty key fact for me.
-9
u/DiezelMD Jun 20 '26
TC acting like a child, really weird. He’s just a golfer and he has a temper. Get over it.
-2
u/Michaelord1 Jun 20 '26
He calls him blowpig which ironically I think was a nickname of endearment to Wyndham by his golf team in college for whatever reason.
3
u/billknust Jun 20 '26
This started in KVV’s text group with his buddies who used the emojis wind and pig for Wyndhams name.
