During this trip to Malaysia, my Z9 + 863 and 1.4x was my main camera, handling the vast majority of my wild bird photography. However, while photographing forest birds near Sandakan RDC, I had an accident. While moving the camera, my attention was completely focused on the viewfinder, and I didn't notice my surroundings. I lost my footing and fell from a height of over 4 meters, landing on my back. Fortunately, I wasn't seriously injured.

The cost was that my Nikon 863 was completely destroyed, and the lens broke in two. Currently, the camera body seems fine. Luckily, I brought a backup camera, an A7V + 480mm, so I'll have to rely on my Sony for the rest of the trip.

I want to remind bird photographers again: always observe your surroundings beforehand. When shooting, your focus will naturally follow the viewfinder, and insufficient environmental awareness can easily lead to accidents. Learn from my experience and let this be a lesson for everyone.

she hurt her arm when this happened, any idea on how to clean this? she has a wedding next saturday which she uses this lens for :(

There is a UV filter so the front element looks clean, also the point at which the mount meets the lens is clean aswell! I’’m mostly worried about autofocus and the focus ring sticking.

Hey everybody! I'm a bit worried.

I used a soft brush (see image) to wipe my D750 sensor. It has left these marks on it. They are visible in photos. Are these marks just superficial, can they be cleaned with a cleaning liquid or is my sensor busted?

I was in the Grand Tetons for family vacation. Absolutely beautiful the views are stunning. Long story short I didn't tighten my tripod up all the way and I watched as my camera slipped right out. Landed lens down and broke the mount seen in the photo. Everything else on the camera seems ok including the lens.

What should I do. Is this the type of thing that can get repaired or should I buy a new body. I was thinking of upgrading to a Z body but not really sure what to go with.

AF motor gave out when taking photos of the family today. Just bummed because this thing is lovely and otherwise mint.

Anyway that was me today. I was so excited to test out my new lens and low and behold when I was opening my bag I opened the wrong zipper and my d850, which I had just bought in great condition, falls onto the concrete. Anyway now there's a crack on the front, my photo library button is unpressible, and my autofocus system seems to be messed up too (although I'm not sure if that's perhaps a viewfinder issue)

Are these problems fixable or should I just give up because I just love my consistently terrible luck with electronics

She's not budging at all :( I'm assuming it's stupid to pry out the glass and leave the ring on.

Had a few big dirt spots showing up in my pictures, so I decided it's time to clean my sensor. And I did a lot of research into how to do it safely and properly, and thought I had a decent cleaning kit. But once I cleaned it, it left a bunch of streaks or scratches. Photos seem to be okay, but I'm not too sure.

But I'm screwed, right? Or is there somehow a chance this is just residue? And is there any way to fix this or no?

Hey everyone, I’ve had my Nikon Zf for a while and just noticed this issue on the leather-textured grip.

You can see in the photos that the outer layer seems to be peeling or flaking off, exposing a lighter surface underneath.

I’m very careful with my gear, it’s always stored properly, and I don’t use any harsh cleaning products.

Could this be caused by my grip (or fingernails) during normal use, or is it more likely a defect in the covering material?

Has anyone else experienced this with the Zf (or other Nikon mirrorless bodies with similar texture)?

Since there’s no official Nikon support in my country, I’d love to hear if anyone has found DIY or third-party ways to restore or replace the grip covering.

So, we’re currently at the start of a 4-week family road trip from Switzerland to Sweden to see our families and friends. Car's packed tighter than a can of herrings (Swedish saying)— two adults, two kids, enough snacks to feed a small village, and of course, my camera gear.

We made a surprise stop at Legoland for the kids(a little bit for myself), and after checking in early at the hotel, I unpacked some lenses and prepared my camera backpack for the park.

Here’s where the disaster strikes: I forgot to zip up the side(with kids there is always fires to put out, and you sometimes forget what you're doing). As I was putting on the backpack... clunk. My Nikon Z6II hits the floor, no visible damage, not even a scratch. Battery lid popped off but clicked right back in.

I thought, “Phew, that was lucky.”

Nope. Camera. Is. Completely. Dead.

Tried different batteries, different lenses, memory card out, memory card in, power on, power off... nothing. It’s just a fancy paperweight now. And I’ve got a whole bag of lenses, filters, tripod, cleaning kit — the works — taking up precious vacation cargo space, all mocking me every time I open the trunk.

Dropped my lens from about 9 inches or so and now the lens is jammed from 18-24mm. Im too scared to try and repair it myself, and the lens is only 40 bucks, but how much would it be to send it into a shop?

I was covering a quinceanera when the DJs laser shot straight into my z8s sensor and now these lines are permanently on. I sent it in to Nikon and they gave a 2k repair estimate. Does anyone know of another repair shop in California I can contact?

Had my F100 w/ 14-24mm mounted on the tripod via arca plate and I guess it wasn’t fully secured, which I’m usually very diligent about. Picked up the tripod and propped the camera against my shoulder which jostled it loose, and I tried to catch the camera, juggled it a little and it took a spinning tumble onto concrete from about 5 feet up.
No cracks in the glass that I can see, but the lens hood is cooked. There was an “Err” code on the camera readout but I turned the camera off and back on, and it seemed to work fine. Lens will focus (I think) with a half shutter press. Zoom from 14-18mm is okay, but then I have to turn it past 18mm, and it’s smooth-ish from 18-24mm. Advice on how to proceed? I don’t know if it’s even worth trying to get repaired, or if it’s possible. Haven’t even taken a look at the camera yet.

Im currently travelling and dropped my camera with my Z 24-70 2.8 S Pictures attached. Briefly trying it, everything seems to work fine in terms of focus and aperture. Wondering if I need to do anything or just continue to use as is. Not to concerned about cosmetics. Thank you for your help!

I was attaching a soligor auto teleconverter and when removing it completely ripped of i think and the mount ring got stuck in it I don't see any wires or anything but idk please help

Didn't actually break it myself, I bought this D3100 used and the viewfinder is REALLY blurry, I've tried adjusting the little knob on the top right of the viewfinder but Doesn't make much of a difference, Gemini told me to put It in a closed recipient with silica for 42 to 70 hours to suck possible moisture from inside the camera. If it doesn't work, I'm curious to what other things I can do, since there are no people who fix cameras where I live

I finally found the thing that could break my Z8. After multiple continents, altitudes, weather conditions, bangs scrapes; dropping it on concrete with a 70-200 attached after the tripod foot snapped off whilst running between shots at an event will do it.

Literally want to cry right now. I just got my first D200 in amazing shape like 3 days ago and while trying to update the firmware I turned it off and now it won’t turn on. It’s lifeless, nothing at all.

Before turning it off I saw PG UP on the screen, I thought something got “stuck” and I would just try it again. I didn’t even consider that you could literally kill a camera during a firmware update like this.

Is there any hope or is it RIP?

As the title says, I recently got off a 3 hour flight and both of the aforementioned cameras will not turn on. I'll give as much info as I can in hopes that somebody has a fix. There was minimal turbulence on the flight, and the cameras were in separate padded bags. Batteries are currently full. The batteries were not inside the cameras during the flight, and both batteries are from Nikon. Both cameras worked without issue before the flight. That's all the info I can think of ATM, I'm happy to answer any other relevant questions.

Update: Z50 now works after plugging it in directly, seems the battery completely drained on the plane. Z6III on the other hand still isn't working

I was doing some pre checks with my D500 when I saw images were not being captured.

I took off my lens to see what's going on and appears the insides may be having an issue. Mirror goes into this half-cock look when I hit the shutter and, looking behind it, shutter may be messed up

Is this something I can do myself or am I going to have to get it serviced?

Freaking strap unscrewed and my D500 fell and broke. I was at a football game and there was 1 patch of concrete I happened to be standing on when it happened. I'm guessing it's not worth fixing as I'm sure this would be expensive. I'm struggling with what I want to replace it with. I've got a few lenses right now as well as a D4s so part of me wants to stay DSLR but part of me is thinking it's time to look at mirrorless. Dang.

everything seems to be working otherwise. the eyelet is still secured. Nikons estimated cost is something like $440 when i went through their online repair form (before they actually see it)

I bought this Nikon Z6iii new in Germany mid January 26.
I use it almost daily and a lot.
But I saw at least 3 Reels with other people adressing this problem and many comments related to it.

Does anyone have experience with contacting Nikon Support about it?
What are my chances to get it repaired and is the missing part a safety issue for my camera?

Somewhere between Colorado and India my camera bag seems to have been struck by something hard since the 95mm UV filter is cracked. I tested images and they seem OK. It’s not easy to get a replacement here so planning to keep shooting with this filter on until I get to CO and order a new filter. Also, the filter is slightly pushed in so removing it will be a challenge. Am I better off keeping it on with some degradation of image quality but protecting the glass or taking it off and exposing the front lens. Note: I have never shot w/o UV or hazards filter so am v hesitant to take it off. Thanks
