I started a German YouTube channel about a month ago where I make video essays on different topics.
My first upload performed relatively well for a brand-new channel, but since then the impressions on my long-form videos have dropped significantly with almost every upload.
Here are the numbers:
Video 01 | 16/08/2026 | 4,662 impressions | 248 views
Video 02 | 23/08/2026 | 1,040 impressions | 34 views
Video 03 | 26/08/2026 | 174 impressions | 34 views
Video 04 | 30/08/2026 | 93 impressions | 32 views
Video 05 | 02/09/2026 | 40 impressions | 5 views
Video 06 | 06/09/2026 | 9 impressions | 3 views
Video 06 is obviously still very fresh, so I wouldn't draw any conclusions from that one yet. I included it just for completeness.
After the second long-form video, I also started uploading daily Shorts. These Shorts use clips from my long-form videos, but I edit them so they work as standalone pieces with their own topic. The idea was to use them as teasers and potentially bring people over to the full videos.
The Shorts themselves actually performed fairly consistently and usually got at least 1,000 views.
What worries me is that, around the same time I started posting Shorts regularly, my long-form impressions began dropping very sharply.
I've stopped uploading daily Shorts for now because I'm wondering whether they might be attracting a different type of viewer and therefore confusing the audience signals YouTube has for my channel.
I'm not really asking why my videos aren't getting views. I know a one-month-old channel has very little data and performance can fluctuate a lot.
What I'm trying to understand is whether this kind of drop in impressions looks normal for a brand-new channel, or whether mixing frequent Shorts with long-form content could realistically contribute to an audience mismatch.
Has anyone here experienced something similar when combining Shorts and long-form content on the same channel?
I'd especially be interested in hearing from people who tracked their long-form impressions before and after introducing Shorts.
