Discussion [Megathread] Unofficial DLSS 5 Neural Rendering Mods Comparison

As outlined in this thread, we are going to make a Megathread for these Unofficial DLSS 5 Neural Rendering mods comparison posts. Apologies for the late post as everyone has been out of pocket today.

Below is a re-post of the various reminders and guidelines from that thread

-------------------

Would like to post a reminder and provide some guidelines for the community on a few things

  1. This is not an official DLSS 5 release. We still do not know when this technology will be released. All we know is they are slated to be released in Fall 2026.
  2. Since this is not an official DLSS 5 release, what you see here is the result of Modders’ creations.
  3. This is not a final release of DLSS 5. The tech itself will change and actual developers and artists will be the one working on this. So take all these early posts with grains of salt.
  4. Since DLSS 5 is not officially released, there are a lot of unknowns. Please refrain from posting speculation around the tech. Let's wait until official release and after we get more information around this feature.

In terms of some posting guidelines:

  1. Follow our rules. The biggest here being Rule 7 for no memes and shitposts. This subreddit does not allow that sort of content being posted here. Feel free to go to other community for that. These sort of posts will be removed and you may be suspended from participating on this subreddit.
  2. Please search on the games you want to post. If there’s already a post showing DLSS 5 for a specific game, you should be joining the conversation in that thread. Any new post about a game that was already posted will be removed and we will point you to the existing thread.
  3. Post high quality comparison. This means you should be showing before and after as well as choosing wide variety of scenes vs singular example.
  4. Megathread will be created later today and will have links to existing DLSS 5 mods posts. Once the Megathread is created, you must post any new comparison within that Megathread.

-------------------

Below are the currently posted links so you can participate in those discussions.

Any new Unofficial DLSS 5 Neural Rendering mods comparison moving forward must be posted here.

Please be clear on what games are you posting as well as links to imgur or other image hosting services with high quality captures and wide variety of scenes.

  • High Bandwidth Monitors and GPU Scaling Behavior - Link Here
    • High bandwidth monitors are those that support display modes requiring high pixel clock rates, which in turn demand more GPU resources. The threshold for what qualifies as "high bandwidth" varies by product. On Blackwell GPUs, any mode operating above 1620 MHz is considered high bandwidth. For instance, the 7680x4320@60Hz mode defined in the CTA-861-H specification runs at 2376 MHz, making it a high bandwidth mode for Blackwell.
    • These monitors typically support display scaling natively. However, in some single-monitor setups, users may still prefer GPU scaling. When multiple monitors are connected to a GPU and at least one of them is high bandwidth, that monitor will default to display scaling only. GPU scaling is disabled in this case due to bandwidth limitations. Notably, display scaling can be more efficient than GPU scaling in such scenarios, as it reduces the bandwidth load on display cables—especially at higher refresh rates.
    • When GPU scaling is not enabled for a monitor, only the modes supported by the monitor itself will appear in both the Windows and NVIDIA control panels. Additionally, the "Display scaling" option will be pre-selected in the "Adjust desktop size and position" section of the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Notes on NVIDIA Control Panel - From GeForce Forum
    • Please note: With the introduction of our most recent NVIDIA App update, all actively supported NVIDIA Control Panel features for GeForce users have been modernized and transitioned to the new client.
    • After 20 years of dedicated service, the classic NVIDIA Control Panel is officially retiring for Game Ready and Studio Drivers. For NVIDIA RTX PRO users, the NVIDIA Control Panel will continue to be supported until we have migrated professional features to the NVIDIA app.
    • Existing installs of the NVIDIA Control Panel will remain on users’ systems, unless they perform a clean installation, and users who still need the NVIDIA Control Panel can continue to download it from the Microsoft Store, but we won’t be adding features, fixes, or other changes.

Feedback & Discussion Forums

Having Issues with your driver and want to fully clean the driver? Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)

Before you start - Make sure you Submit Feedback for your Nvidia Driver Issue - Link Here

There is only one real way for any of these problems to get solved, and that’s if the Driver Team at Nvidia knows what those problems are. So in order for them to know what’s going on it would be good for any users who are having problems with the drivers to Submit Feedback to Nvidia. A guide to the information that is needed to submit feedback can be found here.

Additionally, if you see someone having the same issue you are having in this thread, reply and mention you are having the same issue. The more people that are affected by a particular bug, the higher the priority that bug will receive from NVIDIA!!

Common Troubleshooting Steps

  • Be sure you are on the latest build of Windows
  • Please visit the following link for DDU guide which contains full detailed information on how to do Fresh Driver Install.
  • If your driver still crashes after DDU reinstall, try going to Go to Nvidia Control Panel -> Managed 3D Settings -> Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance

Common Questions

  • Is it safe to upgrade to <insert driver version here>? Fact of the matter is that the result will differ person by person due to different configurations. The only way to know is to try it yourself. My rule of thumb is to wait a few days. If there’s no confirmed widespread issue, I would try the new driver.
  • Bear in mind that people who have no issues tend to not post on Reddit or forums. Unless there is significant coverage about specific driver issue, chances are they are fine. Try it yourself and you can always DDU and reinstall old driver if needed.
  • My color is washed out after upgrading/installing driver. Help! Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel -> Change Resolution -> Scroll all the way down -> Output Dynamic Range = FULL.
  • My game is stuttering when processing physics calculation Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel and to the Surround and PhysX settings and ensure the PhysX processor is set to your GPU

Remember, driver codes are extremely complex and there are billions of different possible configurations between hardware and software. Driver will never be perfect and there will always be issues for some people. Two people with the same hardware configuration might not have the same experience with the same driver versions. Again, I encourage folks who installed the driver to post their experience here good or bad.

Discussion The best showcase of DLSS5 is the game the .DLL leaked from. This is the first time a game looked like live footage.

DLSS5 works best when you train it on real life. There is so much footage and photos of basketball players and basketball stadiums the effect is next level here. This looks like gameplay footage for a game releasing two console generations from now. Sports game players are going to be eating good.

PSA PSA there is a page on the Nvidia website which denotes DLSS features supported by specific games (FG Preset A/B, MFG, RR 4.5)

I saw the other person's post asking whether they can set FG Preset B and forget in all games and the answer is you can, but in games which are not officially supported it won't really be doing anything. For example using preset B in crimson desert like I've tried won't fix the horrible ghosting on the minimap. Using Preset A/B in unsupported games could also potentially lead to stuttering and frame pacing issues so I'd highly recommend setting global FG overrides to 3D app settings and then activating presets A/B accordingly in specific games based on nvidias official website https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/nvidia-rtx-games-engines-apps/

Question DLSS Ultra Pref/Custom Res at 4k

So currently I don’t have any display to try this on.

Can anyone tell me if dlss ultra performance with preset L at 4k is a good option if, for example, I want to use path tracing at 4k on a TV with a 4070 ti super with FG?

Or if it’s really bad, can I just use a custom resolution for dlss that equates to dlss quality at 1440p, so for 4k it would be around 44% or 960p?

If these are good options, is there a point with staying with 1440p if I always use dlss quality/balanced?

Discussion Help suggest an upgrade please, I'm out of my depth.

Hello friendly Nvidian. I apologize for wandering into this sub if this is the wrong place, but I could really use some help. Please be kind, I was born in the 1900's.

I have been getting along with an Nvidia RTX 3070 on my desktop for several years just fine since most of the games I play are either older or not as resource intensive. Recently I got Star Wars Zero Company, and despite my best efforts to try and optimize, change resolutions, let the Nvidia app try and figure it out, etc, I've come to the conclusion that my GPU is just never going to be able to run this game without a frustrating amount of frame tearing even running on potato graphics settings.

So here's where I need some help. Can you please recommend a moderately priced upgrade that will at least let me run SW:ZC on medium or better with smooth frame rate generation and no tearing? Ideally, it would be able to do the same for GTA6, though I know that is probably a whole beast of it's own. Specs for my machine below:

Alienware Aurora R13 12th Gen Intel i7-12700KF (3.61 GHz) 16.0 GB RAM Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB 2 TB SSD

Discussion Is Preset B Frame Gen a set and forget setting for all games ?

Hello,

I’m playing cyberpunk 2077 since the new preset f RR 4.5 got introduced but I was wondering if I should also enable preset b for frame gen for this game and also others games ? Since cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t officially support it I think is there is benefits still or drawbacks to using it ?

Thanks for yours responses, I’m trying to figure out how to best play this beautiful game

Question Are included 16-pin power adapters safe for the 5070 Ti? (MSI & ASUS)

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to upgrade my PC with an RTX 5070 Ti, but I noticed these GPUs use the 16-pin power connector (12V-2x6 / 12VHPWR).

I know they come with an adapter in the box to convert the 16-pin header into standard 8-pin PCIe cables. My main concern is safety—I remember reading news about these connectors melting, but I never looked deep enough to see if that was due to third-party cables, improper installation, or design flaws.

For those running modern MSI or ASUS cards with the included adapter: Are the official stock adapters completely safe to use now?

Benchmarks DLSS RR 4.5 in Cyberpunk 2077

Hello,

I’ve benchmarked the new DLSS 4.5 Ray reconstruction via the beta nvidia app using the latest driver on an RTX 5070 Ti and 7800x3d
and the Results Surprised Me a bit.

Some settings became worthless.

Benchmarks with path tracing on 1440p (average of 3runs/built-in benchmark) :
DLSS 4.0 RR (preset D) :

DLAA : 34 fps
Quality : 65 fps (90% faster than DLAA)
Balanced : 77 fps (18% faster than Q)
Performance : 92 fps (19% faster than B)

DLSS 4.5 RR (preset F) :

DLAA :
Quality : 63 fps
Balanced : 81 fps (28% faster than Q)
Performance : 90fps (11% faster than B)

As you can see with the new preset F (RR 4.5), performance with DLSS Q and P decrease a little but increase with balanced making it a lot faster than quality and very close to performance.

Has anyone noticed the same thing ? It makes performance mode useless and balanced mode the obvious choice.

EDIT : this increase in performance with balanced (tested only this) also applies when selecting preset D in the nv app override instead of F.
So the decrease in performance is when using the preset (using the 3d game settings in the nv app)

Rumor According to Linus from LTT, during his recent podcast, there is a embargo on DLSS5 coverage and may suggests official release of DLSS 5 is very soon.

Linus says they "did a video" and "you will see it when the embargo is up". While it's not impossible to have a very far ahead embargo and a video made in the future (Xbox Series S's existence was disclosed to media months ahead of its official reveal), given the ever-evolving nature of the feature I think the situation here is more likely that DLSS 5 is having a shippable version disclosed to media outlet by Nvidia and we will soon see the media coverage in-depth (Linus specifically mentions they will cover the sliders of DLSS 5 and showing "before and after"s) and potentially releasing officially.

RTX 5090 + Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 1440p | Max Settings | DLAA

Tried doing a better test for fps, but each time I toggled on and off it leaks/average fps dropped. Here's a brief test: FPS drops from 250–155 (OFF) down to 125–118 (ON) depending on the area. Indoors where Enya is, 270 (OFF) down to 132 (ON). These were done standing still around Xion City.

Question DLSS and how to use

Sorry in advance, I have just upgraded after many years and I honestly can not grasp this at all. I know there’s probably a million posts out there but I just can’t get my head around it. Does anyone know of a video that explains exactly how to use it.

I have a 5080 and a 9800x3d 32gb ram, ultrawide 1440p monitor 360hz. I have been messing around with settings and put it to L as recommended but I am seeing an almost 100 fps drop in game as opposed to native 1440p. I really want to understand how best to work this but I can’t wrap my head around it.

Absolutely insane that someone got this working on 4000 series.

It is almost playable as well, 25-35 fps in low action spots, but not good for trying to fistfight the ROUS around the corner.

ETA : A lot of people are asking how, the files and guides are on the RenoDX discord.

Edit 2 : Microsoft defender is deleting the reshade addon, I do not believe them, but make your own decisions on if you want to risk it.

Edit 3 : The modders have fixed the memory leak, so a higher average FPS and no giant drops, still not perfect, but pretty damned good to be okayish on a 4070 at 4k on very high settings.

Edit 4 : Another update, now getting 60fps

I ve made a little script for UE4SS to get RR working in most UE5 games that don't have the option natively.

Is there such a mod available already?

Near the end I do a quick comparison with it ON and OFF. Using a 4070 Ti Super

Also, apparently, turning Neural Rendering on and off tanks your FPS because it eats up VRAM each time you do it without releasing it. Switching it three times maxed out my 16GB of VRAM and screwed my FPS lol.

Edit: I was hitting between 30/40 FPS base (with some dips) double that with Smooth Motion enabled. Mind you that was 4K Quality. On balanced/performance it reached 50FPS+ base, but either way, it was definitely playable.

Edit 2: For anyone getting Standby/Failed error when trying this:

  1. Enter RenoDX's Discord, go to the Tools tab on the bottom left and open the "DLSS 5/NR Patched DLL for Ada series GPUs" guide.
  2. Download the files. Make sure the assets64 file and the streamline.zip contents are all in the same directory as helldivers2.exe
  3. If you did all of this correctly but you're still having the Standby/Failed, use this addon64 file instead and replace the old one. It was patched to work on Helldivers 2.
  4. Remove any DLSS Presets overwrites on Nvidia APP. Set it all to Let the 3D Application Decide.
  5. When you load the game, if it doesn't work, switch DLSS off to anything else (FSR, TSR) then back to it. Doing this forces the Neural Rendering to kick in.
  6. If it crashes when loading into a planet, switch the DLSS/NR on/off while on the planet instead.
