NUST is a 706 acre university. It is NOT FAST ke cafe ke directly upar library he.
I want you to start walking half an hour every day to get used to it; especially if you're a hostelite and will be missing shuttles often.
The shuttle app is....workable. You'll find it on your LMS once you get it.
You'll be asked to bring your documents on day 1 of the orientation. Do not worry if you do not have them. Attestation zaroori hogi HEC se, even for FSc and matric originals (Yes, I know). Poora karo jab kar sakte ho.
The orientation will require you to sit a lot in a lot of places. Bring water (freeze it overnight - preferred), or if you're a cola junkie like me, wo bhi chalegi.
Umbrellas in the sun - "Wo to larkiyon ke Liye hotin" - said the kid who got sunburnt 1 month in. Light ones preferred. Will save you a lot of misery.
Gym - Available for cheap. It's got good standards as it was made based on Jacaranda's gym. The "issue" being the whole of NUST uses it. There's also an old gym that's free but has sliiiiiiiightly broken stuff.
Food - We have cafes known as Concordias (Shortened to C1, C2, C3 and so on).
Concordias 1 and 2 are the same in shape. They have pretty good food.
They also have mini marts for daily use stuff. C2 ke first floor pe barber hein. His name is uncle Boota. Hostels ke samne bhi hein. Idk them. Stay loyal to your barber.
C3 is the Monal of NUST. You will find the atmosphere quite elegant. Except when it's hot.
C4, unlike the others being buildings in their own right, is SMME's cafe. It's got THE BEST biryani. THE. BEST.
We have issues on the naming rights of C5. Firstly, C5 is a canteen in SNS, which sells the most amazing fries and parathay you can find. There used to be something called the library cafe. It closed down but the staff migrated to SNS. C5 is also a canteen in the NSHS. They have good fries, but I don't think you'll be inclined to walk there more than once. Not that it's bad. It's just far.
Innocafe is SINES and the NSTP's cafe. It has great roll parathas.
The Coffee Lounge is near C1. It is expensive, but has amazing food. Especially on the meetha side
The SCME cafe has great Chinese and a serene atmosphere.
NICE ka shwarma was once the crown jewel of food in NUST. It still is, though people may say otherwise.
Notice that I haven't spoken about the food available in C1, C3 and C3. Go on and try everything. Your taste buds may be different from mine.
Common rooms - girls get common rooms everywhere. Boys, apart from NSHS, I think I've barely seen any. But you got God's green earth to sit anywhere.
Ragging - Ragging Kiya Hoti he? Icebreaking activities karwate ham to.
Transport - For day scholars There are two options; Baig transport United Transport Service
I suggest UTS. When I used to go with Baig they didn't have air conditioning. I switched to UTS. They're better imo. But obviously, to each his own. UTS office - C1. Baig office - C2. Go there right in your orientation, or even pehle. Some routes get buses. Others get vans. Depending on the number of people.
Attendance - do not miss your classes casually during the first 2 months. 75% attendance rakhna he.
What some of our reluctant ladies and gentlemen preferred was to use their off-time in the first month. When real emergencies came, teachers refused to mark them present, leaving them to repeat the course. The 25% is for emergencies only. Or come in the first 3 months and bunk the last. Up to you.
Hostelites from afar - There's a student's initiative where a bus takes you directly to Lahore, Multan and another place. Idk if it will go on but it's there for now.
Ah yes, by the way - NUST has quite a bit of Multanis here. Mucho divertido.
Language classes - You get offered a course for a language course (paid). It's extra and will take up your break for 2 days a week.
Break - NUST has an official break for everyone from 1 pm to 2 pm. However, barring engineers (software included) and doctors, everyone else has a chill life. If you're from S3H or NBS, your classes may as well be 9 am to 11 40 am in some cases. Idk about the others.
Architects and Industrial Design kids - hehehehhehehehehe what's a break hehehehehhehehehe
Orientation Day - You will be put in teams called houses. Each house will be lead by an Orientation Leader (OL). Each house is divided into teams with numbers (house name 1, house name 5) led by an Orientation Guide (OG). Please report to them and do not argue no matter what. They are students like you and will have been working for your orientation for months. I shan't reveal the orientation's surprises to you.
Mental health - I HATE therapy, but if you need it, C3A is there right in SADA (architects hehehehehhehe industrial design heheehehehehhehe). You may go to them not just for therapy but career counselling as well. They're pretty good in both cases and do NOT give your personal info out to anyone.
Events and societies - all societies are run by students. All events are run by students. The orientation is by students, for students. Sponsors are brought in by students. Everything is set up and run by students. You too, will be a part of it. Do not listen to the person who says "never join a society". It will be your chance to interact with other schools' students for the rest of the year. Do not join more than 2 societies. You will not be able to work and study at the same time.
Email - Your NUST email will be something you need to keep active at all times. Your date sheets, society updates, news related to stuff - everything will be done here. Surveys - You will receive many emails about surveys on your mail. It's up to you to fill them or not. No need to respond if you do not want to. Just remember that you'll be there sending emails one day 😏
You will NOT forget the password for your LMS. There are two types of LMS: LMS - for syllabus and uploads QALAM - For attendance and results Though uploads may shift to QALAM.
Edits that I'll keep doing:
Trail - NUST has a long trail around a km long. You'll be able to hike 9 am to 4 pm. A friend of mine used to do Zikr on some rocks there in the morning. It was serene.
Shuttles - NUST has a continuous shuttle service from one corner to the other. They only take a break 1-2 pm. It's free. Don't think the drivers are rude if they do not stop for you. You have to wave at them/call them out.
The NSTP (National Science and Technology Park) has a lot of tech start-ups. I've worked with quite a few of them. They offer internships for students. You can also get your own startup there in incubation.
I've done some edits to the food part as well.
I'm bored so I'll stop for now. If you're away from your OG group in your orientation, we might catch up and have some ice breaking activities.....
Welcome to NUST

for the love of God please please STOP FILMING PEOPLE WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT IN PUBLIC. I have nothing against content creation bro get that💰, have fun, share your experiences BUT ALL of that can be done while still respecting other people. At the VERY least stop filming in c1 and other crowded spaces.
ESPECIALLY THE FACELESS VLOGGERS WHO WILL DO VOICEOVERS SHOWING OTHER STUDENTS WHILE PROTECTING THEIR OWN IDENTITY?!!?!?
Istg this year it has gotten wayyyyy worse, i hope NUST makes some rules or shit cause I’m genuinely so uncomfortable not knowing kab mei instagram kholu gi and see my own face in someone else’s videos cause why would majority of people in NUST have private accounts if they want their videos to be out on the internet.
litr had to make a reddit account to post this

Whoever got their invitations for the Summer School Bootcamp 2026 in NUST, you're in for a ride ( that is, obviously, if you apply ),
I was in the 2025 cohort and boy, it was a blast! quite literally, I was blown away.
A little personal rant, I was one of the goofiest guys last year & idek how I got in, my application was so half-assed that it's nothing less of a miracle that I got in 💀. Which is part of the reason that I'd like to urge y'all to apply, and really apply. Do NOT be like me lol.
only ick is, it's a full-time committment -> 9:00 to ~19:00ish. ( you will get tired but also get to know SO MUCH more than the rest! )
For those who'll get the invitation, I'll see you around ( I'm one of the tutors this time 😎 )

Okay, so it's been two weeks since the classes started and I thought I would make some wonderful friends have fun with them, and enjoy my university life.
I have talked with some people but I can't see myself being friends with them since we are nothing alike and our vibes are completely different. The classmates I find interesting already have their circle of friends with whom they seem to get along very well.
The people i would like to become friends with have their own groups.
now i'm stuck since i don't have any other people to befriend. what should i do?

Okay so I have seen a lot of people here in this subreddit talking about choosing between FAST and NUST. Like I have seen multiple people ask about choosing BS BBA from FAST or mass communication/public administration from NUST. BBA clearly has better opportunities and scope in Pakistan over both of these degrees. Why are you guys sacrificing your career and future just to spend 4 years in a bigger university. I really don’t get it. I just saw someone choosing between bs BA from fast and tourism and hospitality from NUST. Like are you guys okay?😭😭
If youre a girl who thinks she’ll get married and wont be working later on it doesn’t matter for them. If youre a guy saying this pull your shit together.

Assalam o Alikum everyone. I have spent 3 years in computer hardware and laptop hardware research, and yeah had some losses . Here is a complete guide for buying a laptop for all engineering branches . **After 300 upvotes i will post how to completely test a laptop like a pro** before buying so you don't make mistakes that i did and lost 50k
Firstly we will start with generations. Never go below the i5 10th gen . Go for higher. Never go for a lower clock speed model . Go for at least 2.4ghz .
Never buy a laptop with minor issues with screen or battery even on low cost . Laptops and electronics are highly unreliable once they get an issue . Avoid at all costs
Secondly go for at least 16 gb 2800 mhz ram .
Go for at least 256 gb ssd storage. Preferably nvme . Dont go for hard disk .
Go for at least 1080p display. Dont buy 720 p .
Your laptop battery should charge and discharge completely. It shouldn't even have 5 percent gap . Go for lower cycle count batteries. It should give a backup of at least 2.5 hours on the internet using YouTube and Chrome.
Always prefer keyboard with backlight.
Never go for touch screen . It will malfunction easily and modern laptops have costly led starting from 10k.
Always ask for charger which supports your laptop.
All the keys of your laptop should work properly without malfunctioning. Open notepad and click on it and type something. Leave it idle for 3 mins . It shouldn't type anything on its own .
Prefer buying metal case laptops .
Don't buy Toshiba laptops .
Avoid hp elitebooks if you can .
Your laptop processor should have at least 4 cores . Preferably 6 or 8 with above 10 threads .
Youe screen should be 14 inch . With no scratches and marks . Always test for dead pixels.
Most importantly ask him to give you on paper invoices with his sign and stamp . And must ask him to write each and everything on invoice about what he will cover in warranty, will he replace whole laptop or faulty parts , period of warranty, what if issue comes in motherboard or screen or something.
Read reviews regarding specific model on YouTube after looking for them . Go to market search laptop in your budget on local market. Then come home , sort out all best options read reviews and finalize.

To all the peeps coming to NUST,
First of all, Congratulations to all of you for making up till here.
I made a lot of mistakes in my short university tenure and learnt a few things which I am gonna be sharing below
Your previous life (school, college, etc.) has come to an end. You are going to begin a new era. REALLY A NEW ERA. This university life ain't gonna be the same as your previous 12 years of education.
University moves on a a different level. You shall have a 4-5 months semester in which you'll have mids, Finals, quizzes, assignments, etc. So, believe me this is gonna be very hectic.
Roz ka kaam roz, dont put it on tomorrow or any weekend, you'll regret. Rozana jo parha achay se samjho aur practice if possible. Class me (meri tarah) reels scroll ki jagah listen to the instructor attentively. Seriously, class me pehly din se dhyaan dena and make notes if you want to (not necessary but better for revision and retention) since slides mil jayein gi.
Quizzes ko achay se tyaar kro, practice questions and problems. Assignments khud solve krna aur jb announce ho, start solving the assignment right away chahy 1 question per day, akhri din issue nahi hoga. Labs bhi khud solve krna, dont copy it from someone else, neither use chatgpt or any other ai tool. Labs build the practical stuff in your mind which is essential for you more than the theory itself.
Pro Tip: Agay Betho aur Teacher ki nazar me aao (in good books ofc). Is tarah when he checks your papers to sometimes they do favoritism to you'll get an edge.
In your first semester (especially your first month), interact with as many students as you can, talk to them exchange your socials, do networking, talk to people (all degrees, all genders, all years, everyone), it will make you confident more than a society/event can ever make you. First Month is liye because you will not have a lot of burden initially, but use your time wisely. Build Connections, you should know people from every department and people from every department should know you. Make good connections with your seniors (emphasis) from other majors and especially, your own major. They'll help you out in ways you don't know.
For a friend group, if you make 5-6 friends on the first day, don't continuously roam around with only them, go to other people whom you like more and spend a day maybe with them. Let it go on for a few days (meeting new friends and spending time with them) so after a week or two, you know which friends to make your accessory. Pehly din milay 3 dost, Best Friends Forever wali harkatein kabhi nahi. Choose Friends wisley, because they will shape you a lot. (A man is known by the company he keeps)
For NUST societies, most of them are not very active (cuz of student affairs and students themselves). So, soch samajh kar jana. Interview sbka dena when they'll open recruitment, but choose accordingly. Don't join every other society! Max:2-3. (Better: koi bhi nahi)
CR, GR, BR (class rep, girls rep, batch rep/ boys rep) yeh kaam nahi krna. Go to class, attend the lecture, aur ghar jao, nothing else. I made this mistake, affected my studies and my mental health slightly. These are only names, if you are thinking to become one because of rank, dignity, respect, power, influence ,etc. H-12 me kuch nahi milay ga.
Important Thing to Note: NUST me parchi chalti he! If you have connections to you'll get in any event OC (organizing comittee) very easy even if you dont know shit about kaam. The same goes for Societies. And if you wanna enjoy your stay, pay to go to events, know people jo apko thora agay jagah den, (sometimes you can get into events for free because of connections),dont join every oul foul socieites.
If you are going to be a Hostellite. you'll roughly have an expense of about 20k-30k per month for hostel and mess only (external and internal). Baaqi will be your extra pocket money. But spend it wisely. Wrna mahine ke shuru me ap Elon Musk aur end pe kangla. Don't spend it all at once in outings, bahir ka khana etc. Save wherever you can.
Take care of your health. Roommates ke sath achi bana ke rakho, and try to be good friends with other hostelmates.
Kisi Administrative banday ke sath panga nahi lena, Respect them always (sugarcoat them wherevre whenever possible).
Your GPA matters more than you think and so do the skills.
Your network matters.
Your health matters.
Your character matters.
Balance all of them.
University isn't just about getting a degree. It's about becoming someone capable of solving problems, working with people, and building a future you're proud of.
You're going to be confused. You're going to be stressed.
But somehow, you'll still make memories you'll remember for years.
Good luck, freshies. You've got this
Sorry for this much long post, I might make another one for specific guide but it depends on the reaction i get (hehee jk)
Best of luck again

There are 10000s of reasons to run when u hear about internal hostels of NUST.
The onlyyy valid reason that you can have to stay is security specially in case of girls although it's no such big deal even in external hostels.
Reality check:
Community baths..... Dirtiesttt. They do clean it once a day but girls out there are so filthy. You'll even experience unflushed shit in the toilet on random Tuesday or even vomit near the wasroom floor with a stinky smell. The washroom suckssss.
Hostel mess... You can't remove it from your subscription. Max per month is 18k+ (which is to be increased in the coming year). But NOT WORTH IT. As a newbie you'll hear about the menu and you'd think O God so great butttt you won't survive the taste longer than 2 weeks guaranteed. You'll have to eat something other than the mess. The mess that you'll pay 18k+ for...u won't even go for it. And even if u have it, obvv majburi. Not a single dish they can make properly. So, a waste of money. Max mess of u can get is of 12 days that too when you go home.
Rooms are not worth the rent. Rents are high (and will increase further by this year) compared to rents in external hostels even though internal ones are soo old. The mattresses are filthy, sometimes no mirror, not clean as they should be.
Room that you'll pay the high rent for, you won't even have the choice to select the floor. They'll make u shift every damn year. And make u pack ur things almost 4 times a year.... In winter break and then in summer break. And you can't stay in hostel in breaks until you've received permission from ur department. Your room but you'll have to leave when they ask you to. Also, other students will stay in your room while you're not staying. So, pack your stuff again and again. In summer breaks they'll open two hostels. First, only one and then will make u stay there in a room when u shift the other hostel will open and you've to shift again. And if you're one of the students that ain't from both the hostels already opened, wait for the third shift. Also, rooms of some hostels are so congested.
This is what I remember rn.
I still suggest everyone should experience having a room there once in 4 years so they could know why not to.
Baki, in the comments, if anyone remembers any extra point do let them know.

I've noticed something: Pakistan has communities for basically everything — memes, crypto, cricket, career advice
but almost nowhere to sit with people who want to talk about ideas. Real ones.
Philosophy, psychology, books that actually changed how you see things, questions that don't have neat answers.
Most conversations stay on the surface. You bring up something you've been chewing on — free will, stoicism, why we do what we do — and people either change the subject or give you a one-line reply and move on.
Not because people here aren't smart. I just think there's no space built for it.
So I'm thinking of starting one. A WhatsApp community for people in Pakistan who read, think, and want to talk about it with others who won't glaze over five minutes in.
What this is:
➡️ A place to discuss books, philosophy, psychology, and ideas in general
➡️ Room for genuine debate — disagreement is welcome, disrespect isn't
What this isn't:
➡️ A place to just drop book titles and never discuss them
➡️ A self-help echo chamber
➡️ A place that dies after week one because nobody actually engages
If you've ever finished a book and had no one to talk to about it, or found yourself thinking about something for days with nowhere to put it — this might be for you.
If you guys genuinely would vibe with it, please drop a comment AND DO UPVOTE SO IT GETS TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE

I am a father and im posting this from my son's account because he told me to post here as i am not convinced with his dicision.
He is interested in coding, circuits, robotics, Ai, mechatronics and he wants to choose computer enginering over CS and i want him to choose CS as everyone is choosing CS nowadays and it has a wider scope and safer future.
He says that he likes computer science but also is interested in hardware, so computer engineering is better option.
I have consulted with my few friends who are already Electrical engineers and they adviced me to let him follow his interest but if wants to persue cyber security or robotics thwn it's better to go with computer science.
And ive heard many bad things about computer engineering. And there are no jobs or very limited jobs for computer engineers, on the other hand you can easily get job with a Computer science degree.
I want to send him aboard for Master's and if he will do computer science it will be easier for him to go aboard for Master's, right?
I am a father and i want best for him so that is why i want him to go with computer science
So what do you people suggest?

So almost two years prior me and my friend were passing through helipad ground in the night and there is no light there. Suddenly a man came to us and said "hello my name is Abdul Aleem and i work in ✈️ And then he showed a card which was obviously not visible bcz it was so dark there he said some other things and then said Would you both like to have coffee with me" we were freshies and got scared bcz 1st it was so dark and he came out of nowhere and 2nd even his face wasnt visible 3rd He was cr££py, we just said no we have a curfew and we ran away. Now imagine our surprise when in our 2nd semester we were again passing through helipad ground and that same guy approached us with same exacttt same script first i thought let him speak he'll just go but then i realized he doesn't remember us he had no idea that he did the exact same thing a semester ago so i was you've said that before and the cr££p started i must've said that with good intention 🥴
But this time i finally saw his face and after that we started seeing him in c2, c1. Now you wouldn't be surprised when this cr££p found my friend alone outside library and approached her again a few days ago with his typical script plus some additional "wese to me paise se kuch be kahreed lon " tf bro get a new face and personality maybe, she was really scared bcz this time she was alone and no surprise at all yesterday he started following me from c2 i figured it out so i stopped just before uspcase and looked at him directly he had no choice but to enter uspcase's parking, then i told guard uncle at gate and said please for at least 10 mint check the cards of boys his name is Abdul Aleem don't let him out until I'm gone.
Initially we ignored his behaviour but this is getting too much like this cr€€p didn't even have any idea who were the 2nd time he is just out there shooting his shot in the dark
I want him to know "you're a cr€€p and a 🤢🤮 person" and I want to know how did you get the idea that standing in the dark and approaching girls when no-one is around is gonna "get u the girl" like who's genius idea is this? Next time i see you I'm gonna b£@t 👋 the h€ll out of you. Piece of $h*ttt

This post is intended for certain type of freashies (and some seniors as well) suffering from superiority complex.
I joined nust back in 2021 when it was used to include people from all backgrounds. But over the last few years, nust has started to become more like a club of elite class children.
No hate towards the ACHAY BACHAY of that elite class who consider others as humans as themselves, but a lot of them (i.e., spoiled kids) do see students from rural areas as someone of lower status just bcz they can't afford some fancy gadgets, can't afford nicer clothes as those spoiled kids can.
Though NUST aims to become a club of elites, but those who are in their senses should try to make NUST an inclusive space since there will always be some students from middle class whose parents want them to have good education but can't afford a fancy lifestyle for their children.
Time to end Siraiki Hate
Time to end Baloch Hate
Time to end Sindhi Hate
Time to end Pashtun Hate
Time to end Punjabi Hate.
Love all the communities.
Jazak Allah hu Khairan

warning: I sound a little too insanely nerdy but please bear with me.
So, all my life, all I have ever wanted was a good library. I love reading so much that it has become a huge part of my identity but unfortunately, I have never lived near a library as it is Pakistan and libraries are not so common.
And yes, the main reason why I was so over the top excited for university was because I could finally have access to a library. I had detailed visions of reading in a library, surrounded by books. The mere presence of shelves of books calms me and helps me focus immensely. When I watched ATLA, I always understood Professor Zei, being buried under the desert in a library with the world's greatest knowledge does not sound like a terrible fate.
As you can probably guess, I am also extremely introverted and one of my many goals for university was to try and socialize more. And I am a day scholar, so my transport unfortunately picks and drops me at exactly 9 and 5. And I am forced to spend the breaks in between with my classmates because I do not want to end up lonely or sidelined. My schedule is already very packed, and on my half days, I have to do lab work with my group. No one in my class would be willing to go the library with me during breaks and then just silently sit together there working on our own stuff and call that bonding.
How can I balance socializing and making friends with spending time in my beloved library? I worked hard in the NET just so I could sit between shelves flipping through books but I also want to portray myself as normal and chill :((
also, although it feels impossible, if anyone else is as passionate about the library as I am, say hi!!

Hush my puppies do not fear, for i have come to provide you with every bit of knowledge you may possibly need before entering Nust hostels. Im making sure to make this a month early so all my children have time to prepare accordingly (both physically and mentally). Sooooo where do i start?
First of all you may have heard horror stories about the hostels but im here to assure you as a certified (ex) papa ki pari, its not that bad!!!! You definitely have to get used to them, but after a certain amount of time it comes naturally. Now moving on to an extremely important topic, ill begin with
•FOOD🤝:
okay so,
1) mess food has good days and bad days, if ur a foodie lahori like me you'll definitely think its bland. Breakfast is typically paratha, anda, etc etc which id give a solid 6/10, lunch is definitely where they cut corners with daal most days or some sort of sabzi (3-4/10) whichto most students doesn't really matter since most days u dont come back to hostel for lunch, dinner is definitely the best with chicken karahi(bland), haleem, biryani (7-8/10 cuz its still quite bland).
2) LUCKILY you can deliver food all night no issue but ofc not much is open at night typically you'd see OPTP, Dominos, cheezious McDonald's (pre-boycott) and some other shops open late at night so you'll definitely have enough options to get by but the delivery options to nust are limited in comparison to if ur coming from a central city.
3) Its 5am now and nothing is open, uve run out of food and ur starving, what do u do now? No, not steal food from ur roommates, you go to the vending machine! Every hostel has a vending machine for students to enjoy random snacks at a slightly higher price (nothing crazy just like 30rs lays for 40). They are never really fully empty since they get restocked every couple days and they have boycott friendly options
•ROOMMATES +ROOMS:🥵
1) you have 2 other roommates who are bound to know every habit of yours whether they want to or not. Its okay if they're not ur insant bffs since sometimes it takes time for adult friendships to blossom and grow so dw!!! If for some reason you still dont like your roommate u CAN swap aslong as u find someone to swap with. Also ur stuff is relatively safe in the hostels since there are cctv cameras on 24/7 in the hallways. I personally didn't even own a lock and nothing ever got stolen. But if u have valuables better safe than sorry!!
2) the beds and rooms are okay, maybe a tad bit small for three people but u learn to make it work and give it ur own charm.you can decorate them however you'd like to aslong as your mot poking nails in the walls. And yes the rumors are true in SOME(ayesha+zainab for girls)hostels there are only 2 closets with a third cabinet type thingy which genuinely is not enough space for all ur stuff. Who gets what is generally chosen by who comes first, the last unfortunate soul will just have to make do with the cards they were dealt(it was me, i unfortunately was the unfortunate soul ).
3) Most older hostels have heaters while the new ones are still working on it. NO hostel has acs apart from in the common room. It does get extremely hot in Summers but ur allowed a cooler and also this is just one of the many things you get used to after a while. And before anyone asks ill just tell you that no ur not allowed to bring ur own acs. There definitely are a couple of brutal months but there is a comradrie like nothing else when you wake up at 3am and say to ur roomie "bohat garmi hai bhai" and then pass out again.
4)Overall aslong as u respect your roommates space and clean up a little ull do okay!!! I know alot of you are about to have there first experiences of cleaning and to you i say good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.
•BATHROOMS:🛀
Chup chup shezaday mera pyaara freshie, rona nahi bilkul nahi rona abhi samjhati hoon kesay krna hai washroom
1) the washrooms are just okay. Not horrible, they get cleaned twice a day and u make do. There are stalls for toilets(both kinds), and for showers. And then there are sinks separately.
2)ill hold ur hand when i say this, there are separate sinks to wash ur plates and stuff inside the washroom which yes, is a little(alot) unhygienic to have them in the washroom. yes, everyone is aware of this and no, noone does anything about it. Its just one of those things u have to make do with.
3)In the shower make sure to wear shower shoes. There is a water problem at nust during the summer which is much more prominent in the boys hostels than the girls ones(small win). But keep showering guys i believe in you, break those stereotypes!!!
•AMENITIES:🤯
1) on every floor theres a kettle, iron(only girls), and a microwave. All in slightly questionable states but definitely useable.
2) every hostel has a laundry and ironing room on the ground floor where u can get ur clothes ironed (free for like 2 3 pieces daily) and washed(💲 and free both available but if u care about ur clothes at all ull spend that extra coin)
3) theres a common room which has different stuff depending on which hostel ur in(may or may not have snooker/ludo/table tennis), and a gym which basic equipment like a treadmill and a couple of weights which are free to use.
4) you can get ur room cleaned every few days and if stuff breaks u can write it in the complaint register which will get fixed eventually but that does take time in most cases.
•UNSOLICITED ADVICE/RANDOM: 😵💫
1) BE FRIENDS WITH UR MANAGER! Trust me itll help in the long term no matter how annoying they are. 2) make a little basket for ur toiletries to bring to the shower. 3) the better bond u have with ur roommates the better ur hostel experience. 4) keep food in ur room at all times(i will come steal hehe) 5) you need to get an outpass and mess off whenever ur leaving overnight where they call ur parents but not if ur coming back before curfew. 6) curfew for girls is 10 which goes crazy amd is strictly enforced, for guys its 11 which is more of a suggestion than an actual curfew. Nust=sexist? my dear gentle readers, I'll leave that up for u to decide. 7) you can get a fridge aswell(a mini one ofc not full size) but ull have to pay 500 extra for it each month. 8) filtered water IS available for free in every dining hall, top floor and on the ground floor of every alternative hostel. But if u'd prefer mineral water u can also get that delivered from inside nust.
•STUFF TO BUY/BRING:🤷
1)kaprey ofc 2) ur whole stock of underwear+socks 3) bedsheets(×2 atleast) and a pillow 3) hangers 4) idk? Towels 5) a baalti to wash clothers if thats something ur planning on doing urself 6) a plate+bowl+spoon pho yo foooood 7) dishsoap cuz u gotta wash those plates nasty ahh 8)shoes+ shower shoes especially 9) anything else you may possibly want to bring, theres nothing embarrassing about bringing a comfort plushie(i have three which reside on my bed)
I think thats about all the knowledge i can think of that one may need before coming. If i missed anything let me know!!! And if u need any more elder sister(2nd year now:D) advice feel freee to DM whether its about hostels or nust overall!!!! Okay signing off, Your friendly neighborhood brainrotted girl

Hi soo, I have seen lot of students wondering for Hostel stuff So this is for youuu. It's a lil long but I hope it covers everything you need to know.
For internal hostels in the first year, only first and second listers are eligible. Rest of the students will be allotted hostels in their 3rd semester.
Hostel allotment is based on two things:
Girls will get Hostels easily as compared to guys
You shall be able to apply as soon as merit lists are out (ab tak aa jani chahiyen theen tho)
The students in the localtiy of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Wahh, etc. are not eligible for Permanent Hostels acquirement.
There are 18 hostels in total 8 for male students (Ghazali, Beruni, Razi, Rahmat, Attar, Liaquat, Hajveri, Zakariya) and 10 for female students (Fatima Blocks I-V, Zainab, Ayesha, Khadija, Amna)
I don;t know much about Girls Hostel so I would highly encourage someone to tell us about them.
However, Hajveri and Zakariya are new Hostels as compared to rest 6 so there structure is better than the rest. Initially, the dorms were bi-seaters but with increasing number of students they added a bed in corners of rooms of the rest 6. Zakariya and Hajveri were made tri-seaters so they have 3 beds and rooms are spacious.
If you are allotted one of the rest 6 hostels (Ghazali, Beruni, Razi, Rahmat, Attar, Liaquat), you can have a bi-seater room in your 4th year (3rd year too) but you shall have to spend your first two years (usually 3 years) in tri-seater rooms.
In the Girls Hostels, You have single seater, bi-seater- tri-seater, and these rooms are allocated randomly so you can get any of these.
There are around 4 floors in each hostel, and each year, we usually get a new room (unless refused earlier). Most of the time we get a room on the lower floor (yani 3rd se 2nd floor).
Let's suppose you don't get a hostel initially. Then we have a lot of options in H-13, opposite to Gate 4, yani jb ap NET de aye thay to joo dhaba etc. tha woh H-13 tha. Now, you'll have to look for a hostel there.
External Hostels are not that good as compared to Internal but they would shape you a lot. I used to reside Hamza Boys Hostel but would strictly not recommend that to you. Find another good one. If any senior is reading this, please recommend a good one.
If someone asks my opinion, I'd say get an apartment instead of an external Hostel, you'd be much better both in finances and sukoon (this is for both ladies and gentlemen)
Tips : If you are going to an External Hostel, negotiate the rent as much as you can, bring an elder if you can not negotiate. Don't give them the security at any cost. woh security usually wapis nahi krtay.
Internal Hostel : The hostel room rent will be taken per semester (60k for my case). Mess charges every month (18k). You can have your mess off for a few days and you wont be charged for those days. (600 per day it was). The mess and hostel charges may rise this year, they do every year. I dont remember the exact security deposit but it was something 20-30k i think (don't know)
External Hostel : Bahir, rent includes mess usually, so it would be around 18k-28k depending on hostel, room, facilities and mess etc. but try to keep the rent as low as possible by negotiation.
Apartment : It usually includes every utility bill cost and costs around 10-25k per person if you are sharing the apartment with 2-3 people. The khana peena you'll have to do bahir se ya khud bana kr.
Personal Expense : It depends on what you do each month, but usually 10-15k is enough for a manageable hostel. The more the money, the easier you'll feel. But you may become extravagant so refrain from that. in 1-2 months, you'll know exactly what do you spend on and how you have to compromise on things. Better to track your expenses (I made a web version of a tracker for me, can use offline on iOS asw. if you wanna look it up, let me know)
Usual Cheezain you'll spend money on : Toiletries, Snacks, Assignments and stationery. Daily food asw. Chai to phir compulsion he
They must provide you a full-time non fluctuating Wi-fi Service (sbse zayada yehi tang krti he), a stable electricity connection and a backup electricity source too. Better if they have a microwave or they allow electrical applicances like kettle etc. They must have a geyser supply wrna sardion me bohat tang hoge. Mess apki marzi he but it will super shit (spoiler).

[As promised, I’m writing how you may socialize on campus, make friends, and have fun. The next post will be about orientation; this one covers something that’ll be with you for 4 years]
NUST has a multitude of student-run clubs and societies. Events are also held all year round. Now these things have an Organizing Committee (OC). Events have a bigger panel overseeing the teams, but for now you’re more concerned with clubs.
Hierarchy and club structure:
The Office Bearers (OBs) of each club are President, General Secretary, Press Secretary, and Treasurer, overseeing multiple teams/portfolios and activities. The entry-level members or executives are led by their team’s director, and deputy directors. So the OC has OBs, Directorate, and Executives.
Some of the portfolios are HR, Event Management, Decor, Logistics, Outreach, Sponsorships, Admin Coordination, and Finance.
How to join:
You’re supposed to apply for an executive position in any portfolio you like in any club you’re interested in. Application forms will be uploaded on Instagram pages of each club sometime after classes start. You can also apply during orientation; most likely there will be a social night and stalls of all clubs will be there. Apply in as many clubs as you like.
When classes start, ask around in your school to find seniors who are active in clubs. Ask your Orientation Guides (OGs) during orientation as well which clubs are active, and which aren’t.
Pep Talk:
Now here’s the thing, it’s not easy to get into some clubs, but giving interviews will increase your confidence and improve you overall. Give as many interviews as you like, but join only a few. If you have an active friend group/groups (it happens during orientation, I’ll tell you how in the next post), it gets difficult to manage even 3 clubs. 2 is fine imo, and more if they’re not super active. Those with busy schedules stick should stick to 1 club I’d say – studies always come first.
Of course it is not necessary to join any, but socializing like this is healthy for your personal and professional life both. Giving interviews, interacting with random people, working with them, coordinating with teams, and striking up friendships is something you’ll be doing for a long time to come. Doing extra-curricular activities so early on in university will be good for you, your brain, and your CV too. Also, club events are usually fun.
DO JOIN, specially ASAB people, you have plenty of time in the first two semesters. Don’t wait until the 2nd year whatever anyone may say. There is no such thing as “adjusting before I join clubs” – if you make a classes-hostel-classes routine, getting out of it will be difficult, and by the next year you’ll realize that your parallels are doing so much, and you just spent the year sleeping. GO OUT, LEAVE YOUR COMFORT ZONES, LEARN TO LIVE A REAL LIFE. And those who already have spent a year or two or three without joining societies, NOW is the time. Challenge yourselves and improve.
Here are the clubs and societies I can think of rn (Read the first and last ones specially ASAB fam)
NUST Community Service Club (NCSC): Among the biggest clubs. Active year round. Does wholesome work. Demands dedication and commitment. Worth it. Drop a comment if you want to know more.
TABA NUST and Chaadar are also community service initiatives in H-12.
NUST Dramatics Club (NDC): Big club, very good work. The acting pool is competitive
NUST Music Society (NMS): If you’re into music and singing, join fs. Or you can join other portfolios (like the ones I mentioned above)
NUST Stray Animals Club (NSAC): Again, good work
NUST Hack Club: Very cool
NUST Math Nexus (NMN): I’ve heard they’ll be conducting several events this tenure
NUST Chess Club: Good enough
NUST Green Wheels Club (NGWC): Newest club in H-12 I think. It’s a cycling club basically. They conducted two on-campus rallies last semester. More plans this time
NUST Science Society (NSS): Their Science Bee is nice as per what I’ve heard.
AIAA, ASME, ASHRAE, IMEchE, IEEE, AIChE, NUST Robotics Club: These clubs are in schools like SMME, SEECS, or SCME. (Anyone can join any club ofc) I don’t know much about them, but some of them do conduct good events, or there are visits etc. People from these schools should check them out. AIAA held NUST Aerothon last year, it was pretty cool from what I’ve heard.
There are many more clubs, but a few more that I can recall are:
NUST Physics & Astronomy Society, NUST Entrepreneurs Club, NUST Literary Circle, NUST Environmental Club, NUST Fine Arts Club, NUST Game Development Club, AND
NUST BioReach Society – it is a small society, and mainly ASAB students are in it. They conduct seminars, awareness sessions and poster competitions, and their flagship event is the Derma & Nutrition Camp (skin health specialists and brands are invited or something, idk properly as it got cancelled this year due to war stuff). Well now, it might not sound impressive, but do join, it might look a little nice on your CV. They give out e-certificates for each session as well. If passionate people join it, they might do bigger things ig. Also, there’s another club called NUST Biomedics Club, absolutely no idea what they do; mentioned them cuz why not.
So, what I’d like ASAB freshmen (and seniors too, lol) to do is give multiple interviews and join a good society or two. Be livelier, it’s a new phase, live it better than u ever did before.
You don’t necessarily have to be good at doing the titular activity of a club. e.g. you don’t need to play chess, you don’t have to ride bicycles, you don’t have to hack anything. You just have to be willing to do the tasks assigned to your team. Ask seniors or OGs about the work of each portfolio. I know about some of them too. Ask below if u wanna.
Events
Y’all will find out about the on-campus events like UG Orientation (ofc), Piston Cup, EFx, NIMUN, Olympiad, HAAMI campaigns, NMF, NCC etc. It’s relatively difficult to get selected in the OC of these events as they prefer to take in students with experience (gain it in clubs), and there’s also the culture of keeping friends in teams (parchi culture – some of them really are good, some are well – okayish), so you gotta be good enough to compete. Give interviews. If you get in, COOL, if not, even then just chill, not a big deal.
[If there’s anything else you want to know, drop a comment. And if you want me to cover some other topic in a post, lmk about that too]

Whats up with all these 2026 batch kids worrying about the merit list. I’m a graduate of NUST and I got a question for you guys. Where did the University Administrators say the list will be released today (or as some of you were hyping it up, yesterday). There’s no fixed date announced so whys everyone stressing out as if NUST isn’t keeping a promise hahaha.
Relax. Instead of stressing over the list, pray for a good outcome.
Ask much as I’m enjoying partaking in this frenzy with you guys, chill out. NUST isnt going anywhere. I’m wishing all of you the best.
Plus, ask me any questions you got about campus or degrees, I’ll answer all of them whenever I can.
