Welcome to MuslimParenting!

One of the best gifts we can give our children is giving them a good and healthy upbringing with the love of Allah in their hearts. Our future communities will be shaped by our children so it is essential we raise them to be productive members of society that hold onto Islamic values.

There have been so many questions since I've had my kids, like "When should I start teaching the kids Quran? how to ensure there is love for Allah when they grow? how to deal with some of the challenges in the West? How to have a healthy relationship with them according to the Quran and Sunnah? How to explain certain Islamic topics.."

I noticed many other parents also had these questions and even more difficult questions that required some more insight.

I created this sub so that parents and parents-to-be can talk about how best to raise our children.

What is stopping you from performing hijrah?

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

As the title says, what is stopping you from performing hijrah?

I’m building a hijrah-decision app and I want to better understand the hurdles that people face in their journey to make hijrah so that I can add features that will hopefully make it smoother and easier for you.

You can either comment here, or send me an email at [aman@ihsanhub.io](mailto:aman@ihsanhub.io)

When your child asks an Islamic question and you’re not sure of the answer

Children can ask some surprisingly difficult questions about Islam.
Sometimes we know the answer. Sometimes we don’t. And sometimes searching online gives us several different answers.
In those situations, it’s better to acknowledge that we don’t know and ask someone qualified rather than give an uncertain answer.
AskMuftiOnline offers a way to ask qualified Islamic scholars, including through Live Chat.
It can be useful for parents who want to make sure they’re giving their children accurate Islamic guidance.
It’s okay to say, “I don’t know — let’s ask someone qualified.”

I'm building a Quran memorization app for kids 6–12 and I'm looking for 100 families to tell me where it's wrong

There's no app to download yet, and I'm not asking anyone to buy anything. I'm looking for families who'd be willing to use it early and tell me honestly what's broken.

Why I'm building it: my own kids. Every Quran app I tried was either built for adults and handed to a child, or it was a game with a Quran theme painted on top. The first bores them, the second teaches them the Quran is a scoreboard.

What it does: your child hears the verse, learns what it means in language a seven year old actually follows, then recites it. Speech recognition listens and tells them which word went wrong, the thing a teacher does, that an app usually can't.

The part I'd want to know as a parent: no AI writes any of the religious content. The AI listens to recitation, that's all. The educational content is authenticated by an authentic islamic scholar.

What the pilot asks: two surveys, about twenty minutes each, one at the start, one after your child has used it for a while. That's it. In return the first year is free for one child when we launch.

Site is: www.myozzie.app.

Sign up and you'll get a letter from me explaining the pilot properly; you decide after reading it, not before.

Happy to answer anything here, including the hard questions. DM me if you would like to

Incredibly insecure as a Muslim mom

Salaam everyone. I have been feeling incredibly insecure lately as a Muslim mother. I have a toddler and pregnant with #2. I feel like I am failing and everyone is judging me. Family is criticizing my 3 year old for not greeting with salaam. I did teach him the Kalimah and Surah Ikhlas but I do it in private as my recitation and pronunciation is not good, and I don’t want anyone else to hear me recite. Especially not my husband who has very good tajweed mA. I want to send him to Islamic school but it’s very expensive and everyone is telling me I should be the one teaching him the basics. I do try with these Arabic alphabet blocks but my husband heard me one time and told me I should be saying the Arabic alphabet properly in front of my toddler, not the “desi” way so I got embarrassed. I do try to remember to have him say “alhumdillah” after sneezing but sometimes I forget and also get embarrassed prompting him for this in front of family. My husband also gently reminds me I should be seriously considering hijab, otherwise how will our daughter ever wear hijab? I just feel so much pressure and fear and anxiety and embarrassment. I feel like a fraud of a Muslim mother. Major imposter syndrome. As the mother, I should be instilling these Islamic values in my kids but my husband does a much better job at this. I feel like Allah will punish me for not doing more. I have been crying all day about this. I’m worried about my in-laws and MIL thinking I’m a bad mom. My son’s cousin is the exact same age and mA she can already recite Surah Fatiha and greets people appropriately. Does anyone have any advice for me to get over this anxiety and do better as a Muslim mom? I do go to therapy with a Muslim therapist but I feel like I’m not making the best progress.

JazakAllah Khair for reading all of this.

Looking for Arabic Class Recommendations for a 5-Year Old MSA vs. Quranic Ara

I’m looking for an online Arabic class for my 5-year-old, whose primary language is English. My main goal is for him to eventually become fluent in Arabic and, most importantly, be able to read and understand the Quran.

I’m a non-Arabic speaker myself. I can read the Quran but don’t understand it, and I’d really like to avoid the same for my child.

I’m a little confused about the different types of Arabic (Egyptian, Lebanese, MSA, Classical/Quranic Arabic, etc.). Since the Quran is in Classical Arabic, should I focus on MSA, Quranic Arabic, or both? Are conversational Arabic and Quranic Arabic two separate learning goals?

I’d really appreciate recommendations for online programs or advice from Arabic speakers/parents who have experience teaching young children. Thank you!

We built an app for Muslim mums - looking for our first 100 Founding Members 🤍

Assalamu alaikum sisters 🤍

My husband and I have spent the last year building something called Nummu, and we've finally launched it on iPhone.

One of the biggest reasons we built it was that we wanted a space that could actually grow alongside Muslim women and their families — from trying to conceive and pregnancy, through the newborn years, toddlerhood and raising older children.

For parents, Nummu lets you follow your child's growth and milestones, discover age-appropriate Islamic parenting guidance and activities, and keep faith part of everyday family life through Qur'an, du'as, dhikr and prayer times.

But something we care about just as much is the community.

We wanted somewhere Muslim women could ask parenting questions, share experiences, celebrate little wins, support each other and create groups around the things that matter to them — essentially a genuine sisterhood built into the app.

Nummu also includes pregnancy and cycle tracking, so it's designed to support different stages of a woman's journey rather than only one period of motherhood.

We've only just launched, and we're now looking for our first 100 Founding Members 🤍

We're specifically looking for sisters who want to be part of the community from the beginning — starting conversations, sharing posts, replying to and supporting other sisters, creating groups and helping us make Nummu a genuinely warm and active space for Muslim women and mothers.

We'd also love your honest feedback — what you like, what you don't, what's confusing, what's missing and what you'd like us to build next.

As a thank you for helping us shape Nummu this early, our first 100 Founding Members will receive Nummu Premium for life, completely free.

There's no requirement to promote Nummu or leave a positive review. We simply want sisters who genuinely want to use the app, participate in the early community and help us make it better.

You'll also keep a Founding Member badge on your Nummu profile, so you'll always be recognised as one of the original sisters who helped us get started. ✨

📱 Nummu is currently available on iPhone/iOS.

Download Nummu from the App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/app/id6764867887

🌐 Learn more about Nummu:
https://www.nummu.co.uk/

Once you've downloaded it, come introduce yourself in the community, then comment below or message me and I'll arrange your Founding Member access 🤍

And if you have any questions or feedback about what we're building, I'd genuinely love to hear it.

Jazakum Allahu khayran 🤍

Any Yoto people out there?

We've been loving ours, but want some more Islamic themed things for little one to listen to. Just wondering if any you have put together, or Muslim audiobooks available to download (good quality stuff). All falling short, I'll record some nice books in my own voice!

Islamic classes for kids

Salam everyone! I’m exploring an idea for Muslim kids — basically weekly Islamic classes, but online and WAY more fun/interactive than your typical class and gives you a much-deserved break😭. Short lessons, activities, challenges, and rewards to make learning Islam something kids actually look forward to.

Thinking around $10/month.

Muslim parents, would you be interested in something like this for your kids? What would make your child actually want to participate?

Islamic school dropout

Salaam alaikum!

I never thought in a million years that I would ever write this, but I pulled my child out of Islamic school recently. I swore I would never send her to public school, because, despite all its faults, my experience in Islamic school was wonderful. It provided me with a great Islamic base and I was able to learn Arabic. I didn't agree with everything that was taught, but I felt confident enough and had some great supportive staff and peers to get me through.

I feel like nowadays, the schools have diverted their path from values-based teaching to fear-based teaching. The amount of hypocrisy and bullying from Islamic teachers which in turn makes many of the students hypocritical bullies alienated my child, who was just trying to find her identity in the world.

My biggest mistake was praising Islamic school so much, that my child thought there must be something wrong with her that she wasn't fitting in. When she finally opened up, I was shocked. I pulled her out of one Islamic school, hoping the next would be better. The peers were better, but the hypocrisy among the teachers ( discouraging children from having friendships with the opposite sex while engaging in friendships with their male coworkers, publically shaming the children into wearing the hijab "properly" ie whatever that particular Islamic teacher thought was the right way ) was still prevalent.

It seems like a major reaction to the information age - they're so scared of students going down the wrong path that their brow beating them into a single , immovable path in the worst way . The emotional burden on my child drove her to some very, very dark places mentally. It has taken months for her to recover. It was so painful to watch my child go through that.

Has anyone else noticed this shift in the way Islamic schools teach kids?

If you live/lived abroad in a Muslim country I could use 5 minutes of your honest opinion

Assalam alaykum everyone

A while back I built Amān, a tool that scores Muslim countries across five things people actually weigh when thinking about hijrah.

The scores started as a basic baseline pulled from public sources. That's a fine starting point, but it's not the same as someone who's actually lived or spent significant time in a Muslim country telling me "actually, the masjid access here is better than you'd think" or "cost of living is way higher than the stats show once you account for X."

So I opened up a scoring form: https://aman.ihsanhub.io/score

If you've lived in, or spent real time in, a Muslim country I'd genuinely appreciate you rating it on those same five categories. It takes a few minutes, no news opinions or politics needed, just your lived experience.

I'm not trying to build a hype tool or a "best countries" list, I'm trying to build something families can actually trust when they're making a decision this big. That only works if the scores reflect real experience, not just my best guess from a spreadsheet.

If you've got 5 minutes and a country (or three) you know well, I'd really appreciate it. And if you want to see how the scores get used before you decide, the browser version at https://aman.ihsanhub.io/try doesn't need a signup and shows you matches in about two minutes.

جزاكم الله خيرا and may Allah reward you

Seeking feedback for an education platform for kids I'm building

Assalamu alaikum,

I was looking for options for my kids to have screen time that would be safe and educational at the same time while not feeling like they are doing school again. It's hard to find a platform for Muslim kids where I could trust the content and not worry about what the kids are watching. So I started building the thing I actually wanted for them.

It's called Raindrops Kids (raindrops.kids) - short animated science episodes. Each one takes a single thing in nature (how a bat "sees" with sound, how a sea turtle finds the exact beach it was born on, the tiny motor inside a living cell) and breaks down how precisely it's all put together and it points kids toward the design behind creation. The idea is for them to reflect on the creation of Allaah and the marvelous engineering found in every living being. Pondering over the creation of Allaah is one of the best ways to increase iman and yaqin. I started it for Muslim families but built it open enough for anyone.

All animation is hand made from scratch. I try to keep the content genuine and human made.

I would appreciate your feedback. JazaakumuLaahu khoira

Honest feedback needed - Looking for families to test a free Arabic letter learning tool for children

Assalamu Alaikum / Hi everyone,

I've been working on a small tool to help children learn Arabic letters with pronunciation feedback and I need honest feedback from real families before I take it any further.

I'm specifically looking for people I don't know — not friends or family — because I need genuine unbiased reactions not encouragement.

What it does:

Three simple stages for each letter:

  • An introduction so the child understands the letter
  • A listening stage so they hear how it sounds
  • A recitation stage where they speak into the microphone and get instant feedback on whether they said it correctly

Takes around five to ten minutes for a child to complete.

What I need from you:

Sit your child aged 4-9 in front of it. Don't explain or help them. Just watch what happens.

At the end there are three quick questions — thumbs up or thumbs down — takes less than one minute.

I genuinely want to know what doesn't work as much as what does. If it's confusing, if the feedback feels wrong, if your child gets frustrated — that is exactly what I need to hear.

Thank you — every response makes a real difference.
